< Nehemiah 2 >
1 Ní oṣù Nisani, ní ogún ọdún ìjọba ọba Artasasta, nígbà tí a gbé wáìnì wá fún un, mo gbé wáìnì náà, mo fi fún ọba, ìbànújẹ́ kò hàn ní ojú mi rí ní iwájú rẹ̀.
And it came to pass in the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that wine was before him: and I took up the wine, and gave it to the king. Now I had not in times past been sad in his presence.
2 Nítorí náà ni ọba béèrè lọ́wọ́ mi pé, “Èéṣe tí ojú rẹ fi fàro nígbà tí kò rẹ̀ ọ́? Èyí kì í ṣe ohun mìíràn bí kò ṣe ìbànújẹ́ ọkàn.” Ẹ̀rù bà mí gidigidi,
Therefore the king said to me, Why is thy countenance sad, seeing thou art not sick? this is nothing but sorrow of heart. Then I was very greatly afraid,
3 ṣùgbọ́n mo wí fún ọba pé, “Kí ọba kí ó pẹ́! Èéṣe tí ojú mi ko ṣe ní fàro, nígbà tí ìlú tí a sin àwọn baba mi sí wà ní ahoro, tí a sì ti fi iná run àwọn ibodè rẹ̀?”
And said to the king, Let the king live for ever: why should not my countenance be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers’ sepulchres, lieth waste, and its gates are consumed with fire?
4 Ọba wí fún mi pé, “Kí ni ìwọ ń fẹ́?” Nígbà náà, ni mo gbàdúrà sí Ọlọ́run ọ̀run,
Then the king said to me, For what dost thou make request? So I prayed to the God of heaven.
5 mo sì dá ọba lóhùn pé, “Ti ó bá wu ọba, tí ìránṣẹ́ rẹ bá sì rí ojúrere ní ojú rẹ, jẹ́ kí ó rán mi lọ sí ìlú náà ní Juda níbi tí a sin àwọn baba mi nítorí kí èmi lè tún un kọ́.”
And I said to the king, If it should please the king, and if thy servant hath found favour in thy sight, that thou wouldest send me to Judah, to the city of my fathers’ sepulchres, that I may build it.
6 Nígbà náà ni ọba, pẹ̀lú ìyàwó rẹ̀ tí ó jókòó lẹ́gbẹ̀ẹ́ rẹ̀, bi mí pé, “Báwo ni ìrìnàjò náà yóò ṣe pẹ́ ọ tó, nígbà wo sì ni ìwọ yóò padà?” Ó dùn mọ́ ọba láti rán mi lọ, bẹ́ẹ̀ ni mo dá àkókò kan.
And the king said to me, (the queen also sitting by him, ) For how long shall thy journey be? and when wilt thou return? So it pleased the king to send me; and I set him a time.
7 Mo sì tún wí fún ọba pé, “Bí ó bá wu ọba, kí ó fún mi ní lẹ́tà sí àwọn baálẹ̀ òkè odò Eufurate kí wọ́n le mú mi kọjá títí èmi yóò fi dé Juda láìléwu.
Moreover I said to the king, If it should please the king, let letters be given me to the governors beyond the river, that they may let me pass through till I come into Judah;
8 Kí èmi sì gba lẹ́tà kan lọ́wọ́ fún Asafu, olùṣọ́ igbó ọba, nítorí kí ó lè fún mi ní igi láti fi ṣe àtẹ́rígbà fún ibodè ilé ìṣọ́ tẹmpili àti fún odi ìlú náà àti fún ilé tí èmi yóò gbé?” Nítorí ọwọ́ àánú Ọlọ́run mi wà lórí mi, ọba fi ìbéèrè mi fún mi.
And a letter to Asaph the keeper of the king’s forest, that he may give me timber to make beams for the gates of the palace which is near to the house, and for the wall of the city, and for the house that I shall enter. And the king granted me, according to the good hand of my God upon me.
9 Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni mo lọ sí ọ̀dọ̀ àwọn baálẹ̀ agbègbè Eufurate, mo sì fún wọn ní àwọn lẹ́tà ọba. Ọba sì ti rán àwọn ológun àti àwọn ẹlẹ́ṣin ogun pẹ̀lú mi.
Then I came to the governors beyond the river, and gave them the king’s letters. Now the king had sent captains of the army and horsemen with me.
10 Nígbà tí Sanballati ará Horoni àti Tobiah ará a Ammoni tí wọ́n jẹ́ ìjòyè gbọ́ nípa èyí pé, ẹnìkan wá láti mú ìtẹ̀síwájú bá àlàáfíà àwọn ará Israẹli inú bí wọn gidigidi.
When Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, heard of it, it grieved them exceedingly that there had come a man to seek the welfare of the children of Israel.
11 Mo sì lọ sí Jerusalẹmu, lẹ́yìn ìgbà tí mo dúró níbẹ̀ fún ọjọ́ mẹ́ta.
So I came to Jerusalem, and was there three days.
12 Mo jáde ní òru pẹ̀lú àwọn ọkùnrin díẹ̀. Èmi kò sì sọ fún ẹnìkankan ohun tí Ọlọ́run mi ti fi sí ọkàn mi láti ṣe fún Jerusalẹmu. Kò sí ẹranko kankan pẹ̀lú mi, bí kò ṣe ọ̀kan ṣoṣo tí mo gùn.
And I arose in the night, I and some few men with me; neither told I any man what my God had put in my heart to do at Jerusalem: neither was there any beast with me, except the beast that I rode upon.
13 Ní òru, mo jáde lọ sí àfonífojì ibodè sí ìhà kànga Jakali àti sí ẹnu ibodè Ààtàn àti ẹnu ibodè rẹ̀ èyí tí ó ti wó odi Jerusalẹmu tí ó lulẹ̀, tí a ti fi iná sun.
And I went out by night by the gate of the valley, even before the dragon well, and to the dung port, and viewed the walls of Jerusalem, which were broken down, and their gates were consumed with fire.
14 Nígbà náà ni mo lọ sí ẹnu ibodè orísun àti sí adágún omi ọba, ṣùgbọ́n kò sí ààyè tó fún ẹranko mi láti kọjá;
Then I went on to the gate of the fountain, and to the king’s pool: but there was no place for the beast that was under me to pass.
15 bẹ́ẹ̀ ni mo gòkè àfonífojì ní òru, mo ń wo odi. Ní ìparí, mo padà sẹ́yìn, mo sì tún wọlé láti ibodè àfonífojì.
Then I went up in the night by the brook, and viewed the wall, and turned back, and entered by the gate of the valley, and so returned.
16 Àwọn olórí kò mọ ibi tí mo lọ tàbí mọ ohun tí mo ń ṣe, nítorí èmi kò tí ì sọ fún àwọn ará Júù tàbí àwọn àlùfáà tàbí àwọn ọlọ́lá tàbí àwọn ìjòyè tàbí ẹnikẹ́ni mìíràn tí yóò máa ṣe iṣẹ́ náà.
And the rulers knew not where I went, or what I did; neither had I as yet told it to the Jews, nor to the priests, nor to the nobles, nor to the rulers, nor to the rest that did the work.
17 Nígbà náà ni mo sọ fún wọn pé, “Ṣé ẹ rí wàhálà tí a ni: Jerusalẹmu wà nínú ìparun, ibodè rẹ̀ ni a sì ti fi iná jó. Ẹ wá, ẹ jẹ́ kí a tún odi Jerusalẹmu mọ, àwa kò sì ní jẹ́ ẹni ẹ̀gàn mọ́”.
Then said I to them, Ye see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lieth waste, and its gates are burned with fire: come, and let us build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we may be no more a reproach.
18 Èmi sì tún sọ fún wọn nípa bí ọwọ́ àánú Ọlọ́run mi ṣe wà lára mi àti ohun tí ọba ti sọ fún mi. Wọ́n dáhùn wí pé, “Ẹ jẹ́ kí a bẹ̀rẹ̀ àtúnmọ rẹ̀.” Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni wọ́n sì bẹ̀rẹ̀ iṣẹ́ rere yìí.
Then I told them of the hand of my God which was good upon me; as also the king’s words that he had spoken to me. And they said, Let us rise and build. So they strengthened their hands for this good work.
19 Ṣùgbọ́n nígbà tí Sanballati ará a Horoni, Tobiah ara olóyè Ammoni àti Geṣemu ará a Arabia gbọ́ nípa rẹ̀, wọ́n fi wá ṣe ẹlẹ́yà, wọ́n sì fi wá ṣe ẹ̀sín. Wọ́n béèrè pé, “Kí ni èyí tí ẹ ń ṣe yìí? Ṣé ẹ ń ṣọ̀tẹ̀ sí ọba ni?”
But when Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, and Geshem the Arabian, heard it, they mocked, and despised us, and said, What is this thing that ye do? will ye rebel against the king?
20 Mo dá wọn lóhùn, mo wí fún wọn pé, “Ọlọ́run ọ̀run yóò fún wa ní àṣeyọrí. Àwa ìránṣẹ́ rẹ̀ yóò bẹ̀rẹ̀ láti tún un mọ, ṣùgbọ́n fún un yin, ẹ̀yin kò ní ìpín tàbí ipa tàbí ẹ̀tọ́ ohunkóhun tí ó jẹ mọ́ ìtàn ní Jerusalẹmu.”
Then I answered them, and said to them, The God of heaven, he will prosper us; therefore we his servants will arise and build: but ye have no portion, nor right, nor memorial, in Jerusalem.
