< Matthew 5 >

1 Nígbà tí ó rí ọ̀pọ̀ ènìyàn, ó gun orí òkè lọ ó sì jókòó. Àwọn ọmọ-ẹ̀yìn rẹ̀ si tọ̀ ọ́ wá.
Seeing the multitude of people, Jesus went up the Hill. There He seated Himself, and when His disciples came to Him,
2 Ó sì bẹ̀rẹ̀ sí kọ́ wọn. Ó wí pé,
He proceeded to teach them, and said:
3 “Alábùkún fún ni àwọn òtòṣì ní ẹ̀mí, nítorí tiwọn ni ìjọba ọ̀run.
"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for to them belongs the Kingdom of the Heavens.
4 Alábùkún fún ni àwọn tí ń ṣọ̀fọ̀, nítorí a ó tù wọ́n nínú.
"Blessed are the mourners, for they shall be comforted.
5 Alábùkún fún ni àwọn ọlọ́kàn tútù, nítorí wọn yóò jogún ayé.
"Blessed are the meek, for they as heirs shall obtain possession of the earth.
6 Alábùkún fún ni àwọn tí ebi ń pa tí òǹgbẹ ń gbẹ́ nítorí òdodo, nítorí wọn yóò yó.
"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be completely satisfied.
7 Alábùkún fún ni àwọn aláàánú, nítorí wọn yóò rí àánú gbà.
"Blessed are the compassionate, for they shall receive compassion.
8 Alábùkún fún ni àwọn ọlọ́kàn mímọ́, nítorí wọn yóò rí Ọlọ́run.
"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
9 Alábùkún fún ni àwọn onílàjà, nítorí ọmọ Ọlọ́run ni a ó máa pè wọ́n.
"Blessed are the peacemakers, for it is they who will be recognized as sons of God.
10 Alábùkún fún ni àwọn ẹni tí a ṣe inúnibíni sí, nítorí tí wọ́n jẹ́ olódodo nítorí tiwọn ní ìjọba ọ̀run.
"Blessed are those who have borne persecution in the cause of Righteousness, for to them belongs the Kingdom of the Heavens.
11 “Alábùkún fún ni ẹ̀yin nígbà tí àwọn ènìyàn bá fi àbùkù kàn yín tí wọn bá ṣe inúnibíni sí yín, tiwọn fi ètè èké sọ̀rọ̀ búburú gbogbo sí yín nítorí mi.
"Blessed are you when they have insulted and persecuted you, and have said every cruel thing about you falsely for my sake.
12 Ẹ yọ̀, kí ẹ̀yin sì fò fún ayọ̀, nítorí ńlá ni èrè yín ní ọ̀run, nítorí bẹ́ẹ̀ ni wọ́n ṣe ṣe inúnibíni sí àwọn wòlíì tí ń bẹ ṣáájú yín.
Be joyful and triumphant, because your reward is great in the Heavens; for so were the Prophets before you persecuted.
13 “Ẹ̀yin ni iyọ̀ ayé. Ṣùgbọ́n bí iyọ̀ bá di òbu kí ni a ó fi mú un dùn? Kò tún wúlò fún ohunkóhun mọ́, bí kò ṣe pé kí a dàánù, kí ó sì di ohun tí ènìyàn ń fi ẹsẹ̀ tẹ̀ mọ́lẹ̀.
"You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has become tasteless, in what way can it regain its saltness? It is no longer good for anything but to be thrown away and trodden on by the passers by.
14 “Ẹyin ni ìmọ́lẹ̀ ayé. Ìlú tí a tẹ̀dó sórí òkè kò lè fi ara sin.
You are the light of the world; a town cannot be hid if built on a hill-top.
15 Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni a kì í tan fìtílà tán, kí a sì gbé e sí abẹ́ òsùwọ̀n; bí kò ṣe sí orí ọ̀pá fìtílà, a sì tan ìmọ́lẹ̀ fún gbogbo ẹni tí ń bẹ nínú ilé.
Nor is a lamp lighted to be put under a bushel, but on the lampstand; and then it gives light to all in the house.
16 Bákan náà, ẹ jẹ́ kí ìmọ́lẹ̀ yín kí ó mọ́lẹ̀ níwájú ènìyàn, kí wọ́n lè máa rí iṣẹ́ rere yín, kí wọn lè máa yin baba yín tí ń bẹ ní ọ̀run lógo.
Just so let your light shine before all men, in order that they may see your holy lives and may give glory to your Father who is in Heaven.
17 “Ẹ má ṣe rò pé, èmí wá láti pa òfin àwọn wòlíì run, èmi kò wá láti pa wọn rẹ́, bí kò ṣe láti mú wọn ṣẹ.
"Do not for a moment suppose that I have come to abrogate the Law or the Prophets: I have not come to abrogate them but to give them their completion.
18 Lóòótọ́ ni mo wí fún un yín, títí ọ̀run òun ayé yóò fi kọjá, àmì kínkínní tí a fi gègé ṣe kan kì yóò parẹ́ kúrò nínú gbogbo òfin tó wà nínú ìwé òfin títí gbogbo rẹ̀ yóò fi wá sí ìmúṣẹ.
Solemnly I tell you that until Heaven and earth pass away, not one iota or smallest detail will pass away from the Law until all has taken place.
19 Ẹnikẹ́ni ti ó bá rú òfin tí ó tilẹ̀ kéré jùlọ, tí ó sì kọ́ ẹlòmíràn láti ṣe bẹ́ẹ̀, òun ni yóò kéré jùlọ ní ìjọba ọ̀run, ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ó bá ń ṣe wọ́n, tí ó sì ń kọ́ wọn, ni yóò jẹ́ ẹni ńlá ní ìjọba ọ̀run.
Whoever therefore breaks one of these least commandments and teaches others to break them, will be called the least in the Kingdom of the Heavens; but whoever practises them and teaches them, he will be acknowledged as great in the Kingdom of the Heavens.
20 Nítorí náà ni mo ti wí fún yín pé àfi bí òdodo yín bá ju ti àwọn Farisi àti ti àwọn olùkọ́ òfin lọ, dájúdájú ẹ̀yin kì yóò le wọ ìjọba ọ̀run.
For I assure you that unless your righteousness greatly surpasses that of the Scribes and the Pharisees, you will certainly not find entrance into the Kingdom of the Heavens.
21 “Ẹ̀yin ti gbọ́ bí a ti wí fún àwọn ará ìgbàanì pé, ‘Ìwọ kò gbọdọ̀ pànìyàn, ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó bá pànìyàn yóò wà nínú ewu ìdájọ́.’
"You have heard that it was said to the ancients, 'Thou shalt not commit murder', and whoever commits murder will be answerable to the magistrate.
22 Ṣùgbọ́n èmi wí fún un yín pé, ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó bínú sí arákùnrin rẹ̀ yóò wà nínú ewu ìdájọ́. Ẹnikẹ́ni ti ó ba wí fun arákùnrin rẹ̀ pé, ‘Ráákà,’ yóò fi ara hàn níwájú ìgbìmọ̀ àwọn àgbà Júù; ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ó bá wí pé, ‘Ìwọ wèrè!’ yóò wà nínú ewu iná ọ̀run àpáàdì. (Geenna g1067)
But I say to you that every one who becomes angry with his brother shall be answerable to the magistrate; that whoever says to his brother 'Raca,' shall be answerable to the Sanhedrin; and that whoever says, 'You fool!' shall be liable to the Gehenna of Fire. (Geenna g1067)
23 “Nítorí náà, nígbà tí ìwọ bá ń mú ẹ̀bùn rẹ wá síwájú pẹpẹ, bí ìwọ bá sì rántí níbẹ̀ pé arákùnrin rẹ̀ ni ohùn kan nínú sí ọ.
If therefore when you are offering your gift upon the altar, you remember that your brother has a grievance against you,
24 Fi ẹ̀bùn rẹ sílẹ̀ níwájú pẹpẹ. Ìwọ kọ́kọ́ lọ ṣe ìlàjà láàrín ìwọ àti arákùnrin rẹ̀ na. Lẹ́yìn náà, wá kí ó sì fi ẹ̀bùn rẹ sílẹ̀.
leave your gift there before the altar, and go and make friends with your brother first, and then return and proceed to offer your gift.
25 “Bá ọ̀tá rẹ làjà kánkán, ẹni tí ó ń gbé ọ lọ sílé ẹjọ́. Ṣe é nígbà ti ó wà ní ọ̀nà pẹ̀lú rẹ, bí bẹ́ẹ̀ kọ́ yóò fà ọ́ lé onídàájọ́ lọ́wọ́, onídàájọ́ yóò sí fá ọ lé àwọn ẹ̀ṣọ́ lọ́wọ́, wọ́n a sì sọ ọ́ sínú túbú.
Come to terms without delay with your opponent while you are yet with him on the way to the court; for fear he should obtain judgement from the magistrate against you, and the magistrate should give you in custody to the officer and you be thrown into prison.
26 Lóòótọ́ ni mo wí fún ọ, ìwọ kì yóò jáde kúrò níbẹ̀ títí tí ìwọ yóò fi san ẹyọ owó kan tí ó kù.
I solemnly tell you that you will certainly not be released till you have paid the very last farthing.
27 “Ẹ̀yin ti gbọ́ bí òfin ti wí pé, ‘Ìwọ kò gbọdọ̀ ṣe panṣágà.’
"You have heard that it was said, 'Thou shalt not commit adultery.'
28 Ṣùgbọ́n mo wí fún yín pé, ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó bá wo obìnrin kan ní ìwòkuwò, ti bà ṣe panṣágà nínú ọkàn rẹ̀.
But I tell you that whoever looks at a woman and cherishes lustful thoughts has already in his heart become guilty with regard to her.
29 Bí ojú ọ̀tún rẹ bá mú ọ kọsẹ̀, yọ ọ́ jáde, kí ó sì sọ ọ́ nù. Ó sá à ní èrè fún ọ kí ẹ̀yà ara rẹ kan ṣègbé, ju kí a gbé gbogbo ara rẹ jù sí iná ọ̀run àpáàdì. (Geenna g1067)
If therefore your eye, even the right eye, is a snare to you, tear it out and away with it; it is better for you that one member should be destroyed rather than that your whole body should be thrown into Gehenna. (Geenna g1067)
30 Bí ọwọ́ ọ̀tún rẹ bá mú ọ kọsẹ̀, gé e kúrò, kí ó sì sọ ọ́ nù. Ó sá à ní èrè kí ẹ̀yà ara rẹ kan ṣègbé ju kí a gbé gbogbo ara rẹ jù sí iná ọ̀run àpáàdì. (Geenna g1067)
And if your right hand is a snare to you, cut it off and away with it; it is better for you that one member should be destroyed rather than that your whole body should go into Gehenna. (Geenna g1067)
31 “A ti wí pẹ̀lú pé, ‘Ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó bá kọ aya rẹ̀ sílẹ̀, jẹ́ kí ó fi ìwé ìkọ̀sílẹ̀ lé e lọ́wọ́.’
"It was also said, 'If any man puts away his wife, let him give her a written notice of divorce.'
32 Ṣùgbọ́n èmi sọ èyí fún yín pé, ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó bá kọ aya rẹ̀ sílẹ̀, láìṣe pé nítorí àgbèrè, ó mú un ṣe àgbèrè, ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó bá sì gbé ẹni tí a kọ̀ ní ìyàwó, ó ṣe panṣágà.
But I tell you that every man who puts away his wife except on the ground of unfaithfulness causes her to commit adultery, and whoever marries her when so divorced commits adultery.
33 “Ẹ̀yin ti gbọ́ bí a ti wí fún àwọn ará ìgbàanì pé, ‘Ìwọ kò gbọdọ̀ búra èké bí kò ṣe pé kí ìwọ kí ó mú ìbúra rẹ̀ fún Olúwa ṣẹ.’
"Again, you have heard that it was said to the ancients, 'Thou shalt not swear falsely, but shalt perform thy vows to the Lord.'
34 Ṣùgbọ́n èmi wí fún yín, ẹ má ṣe búra rárá: ìbá à ṣe fífi ọ̀run búra, nítorí ìtẹ́ Ọlọ́run ni.
But I tell you not to swear at all; neither by Heaven, for it is God's throne;
35 Tàbí fi ayé búra, nítorí àpótí ìtìsẹ̀ Ọlọ́run ni; tàbí Jerusalẹmu, nítorí olórí ìlú ọba ńlá ni.
nor by the earth, for it is the footstool under His feet; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the City of the Great King.
36 Má ṣe fi orí rẹ búra, nítorí ìwọ kò lè sọ irun ẹyọ kan di funfun tàbí di dúdú.
And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black.
37 Ẹ jẹ́ kí bẹ́ẹ̀ ni yín jẹ́ bẹ́ẹ̀ ni àti bẹ́ẹ̀ kọ́ yín jẹ́ bẹ́ẹ̀ kọ́, ohunkóhun tí ó ba ju ìwọ̀nyí lọ, wá láti ọ̀dọ̀ ẹni ibi.
But let your language be, 'Yes, yes,' or 'No, no.' Anything in excess of this comes from the Evil one.
38 “Ẹ̀yin tí gbọ́ bí òfin tí wí pé, ‘Ojú fún ojú àti eyín fún eyín.’
"You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, tooth for tooth.'
39 Ṣùgbọ́n èmi wí fún yín pé, ẹ má ṣe tako ẹni ibi. Bí ẹnìkan bá gbá ọ lẹ́rẹ̀kẹ́ ọ̀tún, yí ẹ̀rẹ̀kẹ́ òsì sí olúwa rẹ̀ pẹ̀lú.
But I tell you not to resist a wicked man, but if any one strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other to him as well.
40 Bí ẹnìkan bá fẹ́ gbé ọ lọ sílé ẹjọ́, tí ó sì fẹ́ gba ẹ̀wù àwọ̀tẹ́lẹ̀, jọ̀wọ́ agbádá rẹ fún un pẹ̀lú.
If any one wishes to go to law with you and to deprive you of your under garment, let him take your outer one also.
41 Bí ẹni kan bá fẹ́ fi agbára mú ọ rìn ibùsọ̀ kan, bá a lọ ní ibùsọ̀ méjì.
And whoever shall compel you to convey his goods one mile, go with him two.
42 Fi fún ẹni tí ó béèrè lọ́wọ́ rẹ, láti ọ̀dọ̀ ẹni tí ó ń fẹ́ wín lọ́wọ́ rẹ, má ṣe mú ojú kúrò.
To him who asks, give: from him who would borrow, turn not away.
43 “Ẹ̀yin ti gbọ́ bí òfin ti wí pé, ‘Ìwọ fẹ́ ọmọnìkejì rẹ, kí ìwọ sì kórìíra ọ̀tá rẹ̀.’
"You have heard that it was said, 'Thou shalt love thy neighbour and hate thine enemy.'
44 Ṣùgbọ́n èmi wí fún yín pé, ẹ fẹ́ràn àwọn ọ̀tá yín kí ẹ sì gbàdúrà fún àwọn tí ń ṣe inúnibíni sí yín.
But I command you all, love your enemies, and pray for your persecutors;
45 Kí ẹ̀yin lè jẹ́ ọmọ Baba yín ti ń bẹ ní ọ̀run. Ó mú kí oòrùn rẹ̀ ràn sára ènìyàn búburú àti ènìyàn rere, ó rọ̀jò fún àwọn olódodo àti fún àwọn aláìṣòdodo.
that so you may become true sons of your Father in Heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the wicked as well as the good, and sends rain upon those who do right and those who do wrong.
46 Bí ẹ̀yin bá fẹ́ràn àwọn tí ó fẹ́ràn yín nìkan, èrè kí ni ẹ̀yin ní? Àwọn agbowó òde kò ha ń ṣe bẹ́ẹ̀ gẹ́gẹ́?
For if you love only those who love you, what reward have you earned? Do not even the tax-gatherers do that?
47 Àti bí ó bá sì jẹ́ pé kìkì àwọn arákùnrin yín nìkan ni ẹ̀yin ń kí, kín ni ẹ̀yin ń ṣe ju àwọn mìíràn lọ? Àwọn kèfèrí kò ha ń ṣe bẹ́ẹ̀ bí?
And if you salute only your near relatives, what praise is due to you? Do not even the Gentiles do the same?
48 Nítorí náà, ẹ jẹ́ pípé, gẹ́gẹ́ bí Baba yín tí ń bẹ ní ọ̀run ṣe jẹ́ pípé.
You however are to be complete in goodness, as your Heavenly Father is complete.
