< Matthew 23 >

1 Nígbà náà ni Jesu wí fún ọ̀pọ̀ ènìyàn àti àwọn ọmọ-ẹ̀yìn rẹ̀ pé,
Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to his disciples,
2 “Àwọn olùkọ́ òfin àti àwọn Farisi jókòó ní ipò Mose,
saying, “The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat.
3 nítorí náà, ẹ gbọdọ̀ gbọ́ tiwọn, kí ẹ sì ṣe ohun gbogbo tí wọ́n bá sọ fún yín. Ṣùgbọ́n ẹ má ṣe ohun tí wọ́n ṣe, nítorí àwọn pàápàá kì í ṣe ohun tí wọn kọ́ yín láti ṣe.
All things therefore whatever they tell you to observe, observe and do, but don’t do their works; for they say, and don’t do.
4 Wọ́n á di ẹrù wúwo tí ó sì ṣòro láti rù, wọ́n a sì gbé e le àwọn ènìyàn léjìká, ṣùgbọ́n àwọn tìkára wọn kò jẹ́ fi ìka wọn kan an.
For they bind heavy burdens that are grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not lift a finger to help them.
5 “Ohun gbogbo tí wọ́n ń ṣe, wọ́n ń ṣe é kí àwọn ènìyàn ba à lè rí wọn ni. Wọ́n ń sọ filakteri wọn di gbígbòòrò. Wọ́n tilẹ̀ ń bùkún ìṣẹ́tí aṣọ oyè wọn nígbà gbogbo kí ó ba à lè máa tóbi sí i.
But they do all their works to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the fringes of their garments,

8 “Ṣùgbọ́n kí a má ṣe pè yín ni Rabbi, nítorí pé ẹnìkan ni Olùkọ́ yín, àní Kristi, ará sì ni gbogbo yín.
But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi’, for one is your teacher, the Christ, and all of you are brothers.
9 Ẹ má ṣe pe ẹnikẹ́ni ní baba yín ni ayé yìí, nítorí baba kan náà ni ẹ ní tí ó ń bẹ ní ọ̀run.
Call no man on the earth your father, for one is your Father, he who is in heaven.
10 Kí a má sì ṣe pè yín ní Olùkọ́ nítorí Olùkọ́ kan ṣoṣo ni ẹ̀yin ní, òun náà ni Kristi.
Neither be called masters, for one is your master, the Christ.
11 Ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ó bá pọ̀jù nínú yín, ni yóò jẹ́ ìránṣẹ́ yín.
But he who is greatest among you will be your servant.
12 Ṣùgbọ́n ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó bá gbé ara rẹ̀ ga ni a ó sì rẹ̀ sílẹ̀, ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó bá sì rẹ ara wọn sílẹ̀ ni a ó gbéga.
Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
13 “Ègbé ni fún yín, ẹ̀yin olùkọ́ òfin àti Farisi, ẹ̀yin àgàbàgebè! Ẹ̀yin sé ìjọba ọ̀run mọ́ àwọn ènìyàn nítorí ẹ̀yin tìkára yín kò wọlé, bẹ́ẹ̀ ni ẹ̀yin kò jẹ́ kí àwọn tí ó fẹ́ wọlé ó wọlé.
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows’ houses, and as a pretense you make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.
“But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you shut up the Kingdom of Heaven against men; for you don’t enter in yourselves, neither do you allow those who are entering in to enter.
15 “Ègbé ni fún yín, ẹ̀yin olùkọ́ òfin àti Farisi, ẹ̀yin àgàbàgebè! Nítorí ẹ̀yin rin yí ilẹ̀ àti òkun ká láti yí ẹnìkan lọ́kàn padà, ṣùgbọ́n ẹ̀yin ń sọ ọ́ di ọmọ ọ̀run àpáàdì ní ìlọ́po méjì ju ẹ̀yin pàápàá. (Geenna g1067)
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel around by sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of Gehenna as yourselves. (Geenna g1067)
16 “Ègbé ni fún yín, ẹ̀yin afọ́jú ti ń fi ọ̀nà han afọ́jú! Tí ó wí pé, ‘Ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó ba fi tẹmpili búra kò sí nǹkan kan, ṣùgbọ́n bí ẹnikẹ́ni bá fi wúrà inú tẹmpili búra, ó di ajigbèsè.’
“Woe to you, you blind guides, who say, ‘Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obligated.’
17 Ẹ̀yin aláìmòye afọ́jú: èwo ni ó ga jù, wúrà tàbí tẹmpili tí ó ń sọ wúrà di mímọ́?
You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctifies the gold?
18 Àti pé, ẹnikẹ́ni tó bá fi pẹpẹ búra, kò jámọ́ nǹkan, ṣùgbọ́n bí ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó ba fi ẹ̀bùn tí ó wà lórí rẹ̀ búra, ó di ajigbèsè.
And, ‘Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is on it, he is obligated.’
19 Ẹ̀yin aláìmòye afọ́jú wọ̀nyí! Èwo ni ó pọ̀jù: ẹ̀bùn tí ó wà lórí pẹpẹ ni tàbí pẹpẹ fúnra rẹ̀ tí ó sọ ẹ̀bùn náà di mímọ́?
You blind fools! For which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifies the gift?
20 Nítorí náà ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó bá ń fi pẹpẹ búra, ó fi í búra àti gbogbo ohun tí ó wà lórí rẹ̀.
He therefore who swears by the altar, swears by it and by everything on it.
21 Àti pé, ẹni tí ó bá fi tẹmpili búra, ó fi í búra àti ẹni tí ń gbé inú rẹ̀.
He who swears by the temple, swears by it and by him who has been living in it.
22 Àti pé, ẹni tí ó bá sì fi ọ̀run búra, ó fi ìtẹ́ Ọlọ́run àti ẹni tí ó jókòó lórí rẹ̀ búra.
He who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God and by him who sits on it.
23 “Ègbé ni fún yín ẹ̀yin olùkọ́ òfin àti Farisi, ẹ̀yin àgàbàgebè! Nítorí ẹ̀yin ń gba ìdámẹ́wàá minti, dili àti kumini, ẹ̀yin sì ti fi ohun tí ó ṣe pàtàkì jùlọ nínú òfin sílẹ̀ láìṣe, ìdájọ́, àánú àti ìgbàgbọ́. Wọ̀nyí ni ó tọ́ tí ẹ̀yin ìbá ṣe, ẹ̀yin kò bá fi wọ̀n-ọn-nì sílẹ̀ láìṣe.
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint, dill, and cumin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the law: justice, mercy, and faith. But you ought to have done these, and not to have left the other undone.
24 Ẹ̀yin afọ́jú tó ń fi afọ́jú mọ̀nà! Ẹ tu kòkòrò-kantíkantí tó bọ́ sì yín lẹ́nu nù, ẹ gbé ìbákasẹ mì.
You blind guides, who strain out a gnat, and swallow a camel!
25 “Ègbé ni fún yín ẹ̀yin Farisi àti ẹ̀yin olùkọ́ òfin, ẹ̀yin àgàbàgebè. Ẹ̀yin ń fọ òde ago àti àwo ṣùgbọ́n inú rẹ̀ kún fún ìrẹ́jẹ àti ẹ̀gbin gbogbo.
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and unrighteousness.
26 Ìwọ afọ́jú Farisi, tètè kọ́ fọ inú ago àti àwo, gbogbo ago náà yóò sì di mímọ́.
You blind Pharisee, first clean the inside of the cup and of the platter, that its outside may become clean also.
27 “Ègbé ni fún yín ẹ̀yin Farisi àti ẹ̀yin olùkọ́ òfin, ẹ̀yin àgàbàgebè. Ẹ dàbí ibojì funfun tí ó dára ní wíwò, ṣùgbọ́n tí ó kún fún egungun ènìyàn àti fún ẹ̀gbin àti ìbàjẹ́.
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitened tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but inwardly are full of dead men’s bones and of all uncleanness.
28 Ẹ̀yin gbìyànjú láti farahàn bí ènìyàn mímọ́, olódodo, lábẹ́ aṣọ mímọ́ yín ni ọkàn tí ó kún fún ìbàjẹ́ pẹ̀lú oríṣìíríṣìí àgàbàgebè àti ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ wà.
Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
29 “Ègbé ni fún yín ẹ̀yin olùkọ́ òfin àti Farisi, ẹ̀yin àgàbàgebè, nítorí ẹ̀yin kọ́ ibojì àwọn wòlíì tí í ṣe ibojì àwọn olódodo ní ọ̀ṣọ́.
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the tombs of the righteous,
30 Ẹ̀yin sì wí pé, ‘Àwa ìbá wà ní àsìkò àwọn baba wa, àwa kì bá ní ọwọ́ nínú ẹ̀jẹ̀ àwọn wòlíì’.
and say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we wouldn’t have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.’
31 Ǹjẹ́ ẹ̀yin ni ẹlẹ́rìí fún ara yín pé, ẹ̀yin ni ọmọ àwọn tí ó pa àwọn wòlíì.
Therefore you testify to yourselves that you are children of those who killed the prophets.
32 Àti pé, ẹ̀yin ń tẹ̀lé ìṣísẹ̀ àwọn baba yín. Ẹ̀yin ń kún òsùwọ̀n ìwà búburú wọn dé òkè.
Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers.
33 “Ẹ̀yin ejò! Ẹ̀yin paramọ́lẹ̀! Ẹ̀yin yóò ti ṣe yọ nínú ẹ̀bi ọ̀run àpáàdì? (Geenna g1067)
You serpents, you offspring of vipers, how will you escape the judgment of Gehenna? (Geenna g1067)
34 Nítorí náà èmi yóò rán àwọn wòlíì àti àwọn ọlọ́gbọ́n ọkùnrin tí ó kún fún ẹ̀mí mímọ́, àti àwọn akọ̀wé sí yín. Ẹ̀yin yóò pa àwọn kan nínú wọn nípa kíkàn wọ́n mọ́ àgbélébùú. Ẹ̀yin yóò fi pàṣán na àwọn ẹlòmíràn nínú Sinagọgu yín, tí ẹ̀yin yóò sì ṣe inúnibíni sí wọn láti ìlú dé ìlú.
Therefore, behold, I send to you prophets, wise men, and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify; and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city,
35 Kí ẹ̀yin lè jẹ̀bi gbogbo ẹ̀jẹ̀ àwọn olódodo tí ẹ ta sílẹ̀ ní ayé, láti ẹ̀jẹ̀ Abeli títí dé ẹ̀jẹ̀ Sekariah ọmọ Berekiah ẹni tí ẹ pa nínú tẹmpili láàrín ibi pẹpẹ àti ibi ti ẹ yà sí mímọ́ fún Ọlọ́run.
that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zachariah son of Barachiah, whom you killed between the sanctuary and the altar.
36 Lóòótọ́ ni mo wí fún yín, gbogbo nǹkan wọ̀nyí yóò wà sórí ìran yìí.
Most certainly I tell you, all these things will come upon this generation.
37 “Jerusalẹmu, Jerusalẹmu, ìlú tí ó pa àwọn wòlíì, tí ó sì sọ òkúta lu àwọn tí a rán sí i. Ọ̀pọ̀ ìgbà ni èmi tí ń fẹ́ kó àwọn ọmọ rẹ jọ pọ̀ gẹ́gẹ́ bí àgbébọ̀ adìyẹ ti í dáàbò bo àwọn ọmọ rẹ̀ lábẹ́ ìyẹ́ rẹ, ṣùgbọ́n ẹ̀yin kọ̀.
“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I would have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you would not!
38 Wò ó, a fi ilé yín sílẹ̀ fún yín ní ahoro.
Behold, your house is left to you desolate.
39 Nítorí èmi sọ èyí fún yín, ẹ̀yin kì yóò rí mi mọ́, títí ẹ̀yin yóò fi sọ pé, ‘Olùbùkún ni ẹni tó ń bọ̀ ní orúkọ Olúwa.’”
For I tell you, you will not see me from now on, until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’”
