Luke 23
1 Gbogbo ìjọ ènìyàn sì dìde, wọ́n sì fà á lọ sí ọ̀dọ̀ Pilatu.
The whole company of them rose up and brought him before Pilate.
2 Wọ́n sì bẹ̀rẹ̀ sí fi ẹ̀sùn kàn án, wí pé, “Àwa rí ọkùnrin yìí ó ń yí orílẹ̀-èdè wa lọ́kàn padà, ó sì ń dá wọn lẹ́kun láti san owó òde fún Kesari, ó ń wí pé, òun tìkára òun ni Kristi ọba.”
They began to accuse him, saying, “We found this man perverting the nation, forbidding paying taxes to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Christ, a king.”
3 Pilatu sì bi í léèrè, wí pé, “Ìwọ ha ni ọba àwọn Júù?” Ó sì dá a lóhùn wí pé, “Ìwọ wí i.”
Pilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” He answered him, “So you say.”
4 Pilatu sì wí fún àwọn olórí àlùfáà àti fún ìjọ ènìyàn pé, “Èmi kò rí ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ lọ́wọ́ ọkùnrin yìí.”
Pilate said to the chief priests and the multitudes, “I find no basis for a charge against this man.”
5 Wọ́n sì túbọ̀ tẹnumọ́ ọn pé, “Ó ń ru ènìyàn sókè, ó ń kọ́ni káàkiri gbogbo Judea, ó bẹ̀rẹ̀ láti Galili títí ó fi dé ìhín yìí!”
But they insisted, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee even to this place.”
6 Nígbà tí Pilatu gbọ́ orúkọ Galili, ó béèrè bí ọkùnrin náà bá jẹ́ ará Galili.
But when Pilate heard Galilee mentioned, he asked if the man was a Galilean.
7 Nígbà tí ó sì mọ̀ pé ará ilẹ̀ abẹ́ àṣẹ Herodu ni, ó rán an sí Herodu, ẹni tí òun tìkára rẹ̀ wà ní Jerusalẹmu ní àkókò náà.
When he found out that he was in Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem during those days.
8 Nígbà tí Herodu, sì rí Jesu, ó yọ̀ gidigidi; nítorí tí ó ti ń fẹ́ rí i pẹ́ ó sá à ti ń gbọ́ ìròyìn púpọ̀ nítorí rẹ̀; ó sì ń retí láti rí i kí iṣẹ́ àmì díẹ̀ ti ọwọ́ rẹ̀ ṣe.
Now when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad, for he had wanted to see him for a long time, because he had heard many things about him. He hoped to see some miracle done by him.
9 Ó sì béèrè ọ̀rọ̀ púpọ̀ lọ́wọ́ rẹ̀; ṣùgbọ́n kò da a lóhùn rárá.
He questioned him with many words, but he gave no answers.
10 Àti àwọn olórí àlùfáà àti àwọn akọ̀wé dúró, wọ́n sì ń fi ẹ̀sùn kàn án gidigidi.
The chief priests and the scribes stood, vehemently accusing him.
11 Àti Herodu pẹ̀lú àwọn ọmọ-ogun rẹ̀, wọ́n kẹ́gàn rẹ̀, wọ́n sì ń fi í ṣẹ̀sín, wọ́n wọ̀ ọ́ ní aṣọ dáradára, ó sì rán an padà tọ Pilatu lọ.
Herod with his soldiers humiliated him and mocked him. Dressing him in luxurious clothing, they sent him back to Pilate.
12 Pilatu àti Herodu di ọ̀rẹ́ ara wọn ní ọjọ́ náà, nítorí látijọ́ ọ̀tá ara wọn ni wọ́n ti jẹ́ rí.
Herod and Pilate became friends with each other that very day, for before that they were enemies with each other.
13 Pilatu sì pe àwọn olórí àlùfáà àti àwọn olórí àti àwọn ènìyàn jọ.
Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people,
14 Ó sọ fún wọn pé, “Ẹyin mú ọkùnrin yìí tọ̀ mí wá, bí ẹni tí ó ń yí àwọn ènìyàn ní ọkàn padà. Sì kíyèsi i, èmí wádìí ẹjọ́ rẹ̀ níwájú yín èmi kò sì rí ẹ̀bi ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ kan lọ́wọ́ ọkùnrin yìí, ní gbogbo nǹkan wọ̀nyí tí ẹ̀yin fi ẹ̀sùn rẹ̀ sùn.
and said to them, “You brought this man to me as one that perverts the people, and behold, having examined him before you, I found no basis for a charge against this man concerning those things of which you accuse him.
15 Àti Herodu pẹ̀lú; ó sá rán an padà tọ̀ wá wá; sì kíyèsi i, ohun kan tí ó yẹ sí ikú ni a kò ṣe láti ọwọ́ rẹ̀.
Neither has Herod, for I sent you to him, and see, nothing worthy of death has been done by him.
16 Ǹjẹ́ èmi ó nà án, èmi ó sì fi í sílẹ̀ lọ.”
I will therefore chastise him and release him.”
Now he had to release one prisoner to them at the feast.
18 Wọ́n sì kígbe sókè nígbà kan náà, pé, “Mú ọkùnrin yìí kúrò, kí o sì dá Baraba sílẹ̀ fún wa!”
But they all cried out together, saying, “Away with this man! Release to us Barabbas!”—
19 Ẹni tí a sọ sínú túbú nítorí ọ̀tẹ̀ kan tí a ṣe ní ìlú, àti nítorí ìpànìyàn.
one who was thrown into prison for a certain revolt in the city, and for murder.
20 Pilatu sì tún bá wọn sọ̀rọ̀, nítorí ó fẹ́ dá Jesu sílẹ̀.
Then Pilate spoke to them again, wanting to release Jesus,
21 Ṣùgbọ́n wọ́n kígbe, wí pé, “Kàn án mọ́ àgbélébùú, kàn án mọ àgbélébùú!”
but they shouted, saying, “Crucify! Crucify him!”
22 Ó sì wí fún wọn lẹ́ẹ̀mẹ́ta pé, “Èéṣe, búburú kín ni ọkùnrin yìí ṣe? Èmi kò rí ọ̀ràn ikú lára rẹ̀: nítorí náà èmi ó nà án, èmi ó sì fi í sílẹ̀.”
He said to them the third time, “Why? What evil has this man done? I have found no capital crime in him. I will therefore chastise him and release him.”
23 Wọ́n túbọ̀ tẹramọ́ igbe ńlá, wọ́n ń fẹ́ kí a kàn án mọ́ àgbélébùú, ohùn tiwọn àti ti àwọn olórí àlùfáà borí tirẹ̀.
But they were urgent with loud voices, asking that he might be crucified. Their voices and the voices of the chief priests prevailed.
24 Pilatu sí fi àṣẹ sí i pé, kí ó rí bí wọ́n ti ń fẹ́.
Pilate decreed that what they asked for should be done.
25 Ó sì dá ẹni tí wọ́n fẹ́ sílẹ̀ fún wọn, ẹni tí a tìtorí ọ̀tẹ̀ àti ìpànìyàn sọ sínú túbú; ṣùgbọ́n ó fi Jesu lé wọn lọ́wọ́.
He released him who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, for whom they asked, but he delivered Jesus up to their will.
26 Bí wọ́n sì ti ń fà á lọ, wọ́n mú ọkùnrin kan, Simoni ara Kirene, tí ó ń ti ìgbèríko bọ̀, òun ni wọ́n sì gbé àgbélébùú náà lé, kí ó máa rù ú lọ tẹ̀lé Jesu.
When they led him away, they grabbed one Simon of Cyrene, coming from the country, and laid the cross on him to carry it after Jesus.
27 Ìjọ ènìyàn púpọ̀ ni ó ń tọ̀ ọ́ lẹ́yìn, àti àwọn obìnrin, tí ń pohùnréré ẹkún,
A great multitude of the people followed him, including women who also mourned and lamented him.
28 ṣùgbọ́n Jesu yíjú padà sí wọn, ó sì wí pé, “Ẹ̀yin ọmọbìnrin Jerusalẹmu, ẹ má sọkún fún mi, ṣùgbọ́n ẹ sọkún fún ara yín, àti fún àwọn ọmọ yín.
But Jesus, turning to them, said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, don’t weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.
29 Nítorí kíyèsi i, ọjọ́ ń bọ̀ ní èyí tí ẹ̀yin ó wí pé, ‘Ìbùkún ni fún àgàn, àti fún inú tí kò bímọ rí, àti fún ọmú tí kò fún ni mu rí!’
For behold, the days are coming in which they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed.’
30 Nígbà náà ni “‘wọn ó bẹ̀rẹ̀ sí wí fún àwọn òkè kéékèèké pé, “Yí lù wá!” Sí àwọn òkè ńlá, “Bò wá mọ́lẹ̀!”’
Then they will begin to tell the mountains, ‘Fall on us!’ and tell the hills, ‘Cover us.’
31 Nítorí bí wọn bá ń ṣe nǹkan wọ̀nyí sára igi tútù, kín ni a ó ṣe sára igi gbígbẹ?”
For if they do these things in the green tree, what will be done in the dry?”
32 Àwọn méjì mìíràn bákan náà, àwọn arúfin, ni wọ́n sì fà lọ pẹ̀lú rẹ̀ láti pa.
There were also others, two criminals, led with him to be put to death.
33 Nígbà tí wọ́n sì dé ibi tí a ń pè ní Agbárí, níbẹ̀ ni wọ́n gbé kàn án mọ́ àgbélébùú, àti àwọn arúfin náà, ọ̀kan ní ọwọ́ ọ̀tún, àti ọ̀kan ní ọwọ́ òsì.
When they came to the place that is called “The Skull”, they crucified him there with the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left.
34 Jesu sì wí pé, “Baba, dáríjì wọ́n; nítorí tí wọn kò mọ ohun tí wọ́n ń ṣe.” Wọ́n di ìbò láti pín aṣọ rẹ̀ láàrín ara wọn.
Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” Dividing his garments among them, they cast lots.
35 Àwọn ènìyàn sì dúró láti wòran. Àti àwọn ìjòyè pẹ̀lú wọn, wọ́n ń yọ ṣùtì sí i, wí pé, “Ó gba àwọn ẹlòmíràn là; kí ó gbara rẹ̀ là, bí ó bá ṣe Kristi, àyànfẹ́ Ọlọ́run.”
The people stood watching. The rulers with them also scoffed at him, saying, “He saved others. Let him save himself, if this is the Christ of God, his chosen one!”
36 Àti àwọn ọmọ-ogun pẹ̀lú ń fi í ṣe ẹlẹ́yà, wọ́n tọ̀ ọ́ wá, wọ́n ń fi ọtí kíkan fún un.
The soldiers also mocked him, coming to him and offering him vinegar,
37 Wọ́n sì ń wí pé, “Bí ìwọ bá ṣe ọba àwọn Júù, gba ara rẹ là.”
and saying, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!”
38 Wọ́n sì kọ̀wé àkọlé sí ìgbèrí rẹ̀ ní èdè Giriki, àti ti Latin, àti tí Heberu pe: Èyí ni Ọba àwọn Júù.
An inscription was also written over him in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew: “THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.”
39 Àti ọ̀kan nínú àwọn arúfin tí a gbé kọ́ ń fi ṣe ẹlẹ́yà wí pé, “Bí ìwọ bá ṣe Kristi, gba ara rẹ àti àwa náà là.”
One of the criminals who was hanged insulted him, saying, “If you are the Christ, save yourself and us!”
40 Ṣùgbọ́n èyí èkejì dáhùn, ó ń bá a wí pé, “Ìwọ kò bẹ̀rù Ọlọ́run, tí ìwọ wà nínú ẹ̀bi kan náà?
But the other answered, and rebuking him said, “Don’t you even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation?
41 Ní tiwa, wọ́n jàre nítorí èrè ohun tí àwa ṣe ni à ń jẹ, ṣùgbọ́n ọkùnrin yìí kò ṣe ohun búburú kan.”
And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward for our deeds, but this man has done nothing wrong.”
42 Ó sì wí pé, “Jesu, rántí mi nígbà tí ìwọ bá dé ìjọba rẹ.”
He said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.”
43 Jesu sì wí fún un pé, “Lóòótọ́ ni mo wí fún ọ, lónìí ni ìwọ ó wà pẹ̀lú mi ní Paradise!”
Jesus said to him, “Assuredly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”
44 Ó sì tó ìwọ̀n wákàtí kẹfà ọjọ́, òkùnkùn sì ṣú bo gbogbo ilẹ̀ títí ó fi di wákàtí kẹsànán ọjọ́.
It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour.
45 Òòrùn sì ṣú òòkùn, aṣọ ìkélé ti tẹmpili sì ya ní àárín méjì.
The sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in two.
46 Nígbà tí Jesu sì kígbe lóhùn rara, ó ní, “Baba, ní ọwọ́ rẹ ni mo fi ẹ̀mí mi lé!” Nígbà tí ó sì wí èyí tan, ó jọ̀wọ́ ẹ̀mí rẹ̀.
Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” Having said this, he breathed his last.
47 Nígbà tí balógun ọ̀rún rí ohun tí ó ṣe, ó yin Ọlọ́run lógo, wí pé, “Dájúdájú olódodo ni ọkùnrin yìí!”
When the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, “Certainly this was a righteous man.”
48 Gbogbo ìjọ ènìyàn tí ó péjọ láti rí ìran yìí, nígbà tí wọ́n rí ohun tí ó ṣẹlẹ̀ wọ́n lu ara wọn ní oókan àyà, wọ́n sì padà sí ilé.
All the multitudes that came together to see this, when they saw the things that were done, returned home beating their chests.
49 Àti gbogbo àwọn ojúlùmọ̀ rẹ̀, àti àwọn obìnrin tí ń tọ̀ ọ́ lẹ́yìn láti Galili wá, wọ́n dúró lókèèrè, wọ́n ń wo nǹkan wọ̀nyí.
All his acquaintances and the women who followed with him from Galilee stood at a distance, watching these things.
50 Sì kíyèsi i, ọkùnrin kan tí a ń pè ní Josẹfu, láti ìlú àwọn Júù kan tí ń jẹ́ Arimatea. Ó jẹ́ ọ̀kan nínú àwọn ọmọ ìgbìmọ̀, ènìyàn rere, àti olóòtítọ́.
Behold, there was a man named Joseph, who was a member of the council, a good and righteous man
51 Òun kò bá wọn fi ohùn sí ìmọ̀ àti ìṣe wọn; Ó wá láti Judea, ìlú àwọn ará Arimatea, òun pẹ̀lú ń retí ìjọba Ọlọ́run.
(he had not consented to their counsel and deed), from Arimathaea, a city of the Jews, who was also waiting for God’s Kingdom.
52 Ọkùnrin yìí tọ Pilatu lọ, ó sì tọrọ òkú Jesu.
This man went to Pilate, and asked for Jesus’ body.
53 Nígbà tí ó sì sọ̀ ọ́ kalẹ̀, ó sì fi aṣọ àlà dì í, ó sì tẹ́ ẹ sínú ibojì tí a gbẹ́ nínú Òkúta, níbi tí a kò tẹ́ ẹnikẹ́ni sí rí.
He took it down and wrapped it in a linen cloth, and laid him in a tomb that was cut in stone, where no one had ever been laid.
54 Ó sì jẹ́ ọjọ́ ìpalẹ̀mọ́, ọjọ́ ìsinmi sì kù sí dẹ̀dẹ̀.
It was the day of the Preparation, and the Sabbath was drawing near.
55 Àti àwọn obìnrin, tí wọ́n bá a ti Galili wá, tí wọ́n sì tẹ̀lé, wọ́n kíyèsi ibojì náà, àti bí a ti tẹ́ òkú rẹ̀ sílẹ̀.
The women who had come with him out of Galilee followed after, and saw the tomb and how his body was laid.
56 Nígbà tí wọ́n sì padà, wọ́n pèsè ohun olóòórùn dídùn, òróró ìkunra (àti tùràrí tútù); wọ́n sì sinmi ní ọjọ́ ìsinmi gẹ́gẹ́ bí òfin.
They returned and prepared spices and ointments. On the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.
