< Luke 2 >

1 Ó sì ṣe ní ọjọ́ wọ̀n-ọn-nì, àṣẹ ti ọ̀dọ̀ Kesari Augustu jáde wá pé, kí a kọ orúkọ gbogbo ayé sínú ìwé.
Now it happened in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that the whole inhabited world should be enrolled.
2 (Èyí ni ìkọ sínú ìwé èkínní tí a ṣe nígbà tí Kirene fi jẹ baálẹ̀ Siria.)
This first census took place while Quirinius was governing Syria.
3 Gbogbo àwọn ènìyàn sì lọ láti kọ orúkọ wọn sínú ìwé, olúkúlùkù sí ìlú ara rẹ̀.
So everyone was traveling, each to his own town, to enroll himself.
4 Josẹfu pẹ̀lú sì gòkè láti Nasareti ni Galili, sí ìlú Dafidi ní Judea, tí à ń pè ní Bẹtilẹhẹmu; nítorí ti ìran àti ìdílé Dafidi ní í ṣe,
So Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of Natsareth town, into Judea to the city of David, that is called Bethlehem, because he was of David's ‘house’, that is, line of descent,
5 láti kọ orúkọ rẹ̀, pẹ̀lú Maria aya rẹ̀ àfẹ́sọ́nà, tí oyún rẹ̀ ti tó bí.
to enroll himself with Mary, the woman who had been betrothed to him, who was pregnant.
6 Ó sì ṣe, nígbà tí wọ́n wà níbẹ̀, ọjọ́ rẹ̀ pé tí òun yóò bí.
So it happened that when they got there the days for her to give birth were completed;
7 Ó sì bí àkọ́bí rẹ̀ ọmọkùnrin, ó sì fi ọ̀já wé e, ó sì tẹ́ ẹ sínú ibùjẹ ẹran; nítorí tí ààyè kò sí fún wọn nínú ilé èrò.
and she gave birth to her firstborn Son, wrapped Him in pieces of cloth and laid Him in the manger, because there was no room for them in the lodging place.
8 Àwọn olùṣọ́-àgùntàn ń bẹ tí wọ́n ń gbé ní ìlú náà, wọ́n ń ṣọ́ agbo àgùntàn wọn ní òru ní pápá tí wọ́n ń gbé.
Now there were shepherds in that same area, staying out in the field and keeping the nightly watches over their flock.
9 Angẹli Olúwa sì yọ sí wọn, ògo Olúwa sì ràn yí wọn ká, ẹ̀rù sì bà wọ́n gidigidi.
When wow, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
10 Angẹli náà sì wí fún wọn pé, “Má bẹ̀rù: sá wò ó, mo mú ìyìnrere ayọ̀ ńlá fún yín wá, tí yóò ṣe ti ènìyàn gbogbo.
The angel said to them: “Do not be afraid because listen, I am announcing the most joyful news to you, which will be to all the people!
11 Nítorí a ti bí Olùgbàlà fún yín lónìí ní ìlú Dafidi, tí í ṣe Kristi Olúwa.
You see, today, in David's city, a Savior was born to you, who is Lord Christ!
12 Èyí ni yóò sì ṣe àmì fún yín; ẹ̀yin yóò rí ọmọ ọwọ́ tí a fi ọ̀já wé, ó dùbúlẹ̀ ní ibùjẹ ẹran.”
And this is the sign to you: you will find a Baby wrapped in pieces of cloth, lying in a manger.”
13 Ọ̀pọ̀lọpọ̀ ogun ọ̀run sì darapọ̀ mọ́ angẹli náà ní òjijì, wọ́n ń yin Ọlọ́run, wí pé,
Suddenly a multitude of the heavenly army was with the angel praising God and saying,
14 “Ògo ni fún Ọlọ́run lókè ọ̀run, àti ní ayé àlàáfíà, ìfẹ́ inú rere sí ènìyàn.”
“Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, good will toward mankind!”
15 Ó sì ṣe, nígbà tí àwọn angẹli náà padà kúrò lọ́dọ̀ wọn lọ sí ọ̀run, àwọn olùṣọ́-àgùntàn náà bá ara wọn sọ pé, “Ẹ jẹ́ kí á lọ tààrà sí Bẹtilẹhẹmu, kí á lè rí ohun tí ó ṣẹ̀, tí Olúwa fihàn fún wa.”
So when the angels went away from them into the sky the men, the shepherds, said to one another, “Hey, let's go to Bethlehem and see this event that has taken place, that the Lord made known to us!”
16 Wọ́n sì wá lọ́gán, wọ́n sì rí Maria àti Josẹfu, àti ọmọ ọwọ́ náà, ó dùbúlẹ̀ nínú ibùjẹ ẹran.
So they went in a hurry and located both Mary and Joseph, and the Baby lying in the manger.
17 Nígbà tí wọ́n sì ti rí i, wọ́n sọ ohun tí a ti wí fún wọn nípa ti ọmọ yìí.
And having seen they spread an exact account of the saying that had been spoken to them concerning this Child.
18 Ẹnu sì ya gbogbo àwọn tí ó gbọ́ sí nǹkan wọ̀nyí tí a ti wí fún wọn láti ọ̀dọ̀ àwọn olùṣọ́-àgùntàn wá.
All who heard marveled at the things told them by the shepherds.
19 Ṣùgbọ́n Maria pa gbogbo nǹkan wọ̀nyí mọ́, ó ń rò wọ́n nínú ọkàn rẹ̀.
As for Mary, she treasured all these sayings, pondering them in her heart.
20 Àwọn olùṣọ́-àgùntàn sì padà lọ, wọ́n ń fi ògo fún Ọlọ́run, wọ́n sì yìn ín, nítorí ohun gbogbo tí wọ́n ti gbọ́ àti tí wọ́n ti rí, bí a ti wí i fún wọn.
The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God over all that they had heard and seen, just as it was told them.
21 Nígbà tí ọjọ́ mẹ́jọ sì pé láti kọ ọmọ náà nílà, wọ́n pe orúkọ rẹ̀ ní Jesu, bí a ti sọ ọ́ tẹ́lẹ̀ láti ọ̀dọ̀ angẹli náà wá kí á tó lóyún rẹ̀.
When eight days were completed so as to circumcise Him, His name was indeed called JESUS, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb.
22 Nígbà tí ọjọ́ ìwẹ̀nù Maria sì pé gẹ́gẹ́ bí òfin Mose, Josẹfu àti Maria gbé Jesu wá sí Jerusalẹmu láti fi í fún Olúwa
And when the days of their purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they took Him to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord
23 (bí a ti kọ ọ́ sínú òfin Olúwa pé, “Gbogbo ọmọ ọkùnrin tí ó ṣe àkọ́bí, òun ni a ó pè ní mímọ́ fún Olúwa”),
(just as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every male who opens a womb shall be called holy to the Lord”),
24 àti láti rú ẹbọ gẹ́gẹ́ bí èyí tí a wí nínú òfin Olúwa: “Àdàbà méjì tàbí ọmọ ẹyẹlé méjì.”
and to offer a sacrifice according to what was specified in the Lord's Law, “a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons”.
25 Sì kíyèsi i, ọkùnrin kan wà ní Jerusalẹmu, orúkọ rẹ̀ a máa jẹ́ Simeoni; ọkùnrin náà sì ṣe olóòtítọ́ àti olùfọkànsìn, ó ń retí ìtùnú Israẹli, Ẹ̀mí mímọ́ sì bà lé e.
Well now, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; this man was righteous and devout, expectantly waiting for the Consolation of Israel, and Holy Spirit was upon him.
26 A sì ti fihàn án láti ọ̀dọ̀ Ẹ̀mí Mímọ́ náà wá pé, òun kì yóò rí ikú, kí ó tó rí Kristi Olúwa.
(It had been revealed to him repeatedly by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death until he saw the Lord's Messiah.)
27 Ó sì ti ipa Ẹ̀mí wá sínú tẹmpili. Nígbà tí àwọn òbí rẹ̀ sì gbé Jesu wá, láti ṣe fún un bí ìṣe òfin.
So by the Spirit he came into the temple; and when the parents brought the Child Jesus in, to do concerning Him according to the custom of the law,
28 Nígbà náà ni Simeoni gbé e ní apá rẹ̀, ó fi ìbùkún fún Ọlọ́run, ó ní:
Simeon took Him into his arms and blessed God and said:
29 “Olúwa Olódùmarè, nígbà yìí ni ó tó jọ̀wọ́ ọmọ ọ̀dọ̀ rẹ lọ́wọ́ lọ, ní àlàáfíà, gẹ́gẹ́ bí ọ̀rọ̀ rẹ.
“Sovereign, now You can release your slave in peace, according to Your word,
30 Nítorí tí ojú mi ti rí ìgbàlà rẹ ná,
because my eyes have seen Your salvation,
31 tí ìwọ ti pèsè sílẹ̀ níwájú ènìyàn gbogbo;
which You have prepared before the face of all peoples:
32 ìmọ́lẹ̀ láti mọ́ sí àwọn aláìkọlà, àti ògo Israẹli ènìyàn rẹ̀.”
a light for revelation to Gentiles, and the glory of Your people Israel.”
33 Ẹnu sì ya Josẹfu àti ìyá rẹ̀ sí nǹkan tí a ń sọ sí i wọ̀nyí.
And Joseph and His mother were marveling at the things being spoken concerning Him.
34 Simeoni sì súre fún wọn, ó sì wí fún Maria ìyá rẹ̀ pé, “Kíyèsi i, a gbé ọmọ yìí kalẹ̀ fún ìṣubú àti ìdìde ọ̀pọ̀ ènìyàn ní Israẹli; àti fún àmì tí a ń sọ̀rọ̀-òdì sí;
Then Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary His mother: “Listen, this One is appointed to bring about the fall and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that is spoken against,
35 (idà yóò sì gún ìwọ náà ní ọkàn pẹ̀lú) kí á lè fi ìrònú ọ̀pọ̀ ọkàn hàn.”
so that the reasonings of many hearts may be revealed (furthermore, a sword will pass through your own soul also).”
36 Ẹnìkan sì ń bẹ, Anna wòlíì, ọmọbìnrin Penueli, nínú ẹ̀yà Aṣeri: ọjọ́ ogbó rẹ̀ pọ̀, ó ti bá ọkọ gbé ní ọdún méje láti ìgbà wúńdíá rẹ̀ wá;
Also there was a prophetess Anna, a daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher—she was of a great age, having lived with a husband seven years from her virginity
37 Ó sì ṣe opó títí ó fi di ẹni ọdún mẹ́rìnlélọ́gọ́rin, ẹni tí kò kúrò ní tẹmpili, ṣùgbọ́n ó ń fi àwẹ̀ àti àdúrà sin Ọlọ́run lọ́sàn án àti lóru.
and having been a widow for about eighty-four years—who did not depart from the temple, serving God with fastings and petitions night and day.
38 Ó sì wólẹ̀ ní àkókò náà, ó sì dúpẹ́ lọ́wọ́ Ọlọ́run pẹ̀lú, ó sì sọ̀rọ̀ rẹ̀ fún gbogbo àwọn tí ó ń retí ìdáǹdè Jerusalẹmu.
Well she, having come up at that very moment, started praising the Lord, and kept on speaking of Him to all those in Jerusalem who were looking for redemption.
39 Nígbà tí wọ́n sì ti ṣe nǹkan gbogbo tán gẹ́gẹ́ bí òfin Olúwa, wọ́n padà lọ sí Galili, sí Nasareti ìlú wọn.
When they had completed everything, according to the law of the Lord, they went back to Galilee, to their own town, Natsareth.
40 Ọmọ náà sì ń dàgbà, ó sì ń lágbára, ó sì kún fún ọgbọ́n: oore-ọ̀fẹ́ Ọlọ́run sì ń bẹ lára rẹ̀.
And the Child kept growing and being strengthened in spirit, being filled with wisdom; yes, the grace of God was upon Him.
41 Àwọn òbí rẹ̀ a sì máa lọ sí Jerusalẹmu ní ọdọọdún sí àjọ ìrékọjá.
Now every year His parents would go to Jerusalem to the feast of the Passover;
42 Nígbà tí ó sì di ọmọ ọdún méjìlá, wọ́n gòkè lọ sí Jerusalẹmu gẹ́gẹ́ bí ìṣe àjọ náà.
so when He was twelve years old they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast.
43 Nígbà tí ọjọ́ wọn sì pé bí wọ́n ti ń padà bọ̀, ọmọ náà, Jesu dúró lẹ́yìn ní Jerusalẹmu; Josẹfu àti ìyá rẹ̀ kò mọ̀.
When they had fulfilled the days, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but Joseph and His mother did not know it.
44 Ṣùgbọ́n wọ́n ṣe bí ó wà ní ẹ̀gbẹ́ èrò, wọ́n rin ìrìn ọjọ́ kan; wọ́n wá a kiri nínú àwọn ará àti àwọn ojúlùmọ̀ wọn.
Supposing Him to be in the caravan, they went a day's journey and then started looking for Him among their relatives and acquaintances.
45 Nígbà tí wọn kò sì rí i, wọ́n padà sí Jerusalẹmu, wọ́n ń wá a kiri.
Not finding Him, they returned to Jerusalem seeking Him.
46 Ó sì ṣe, lẹ́yìn ọjọ́ mẹ́ta wọ́n rí i nínú tẹmpili ó jókòó ní àárín àwọn olùkọ́ni, ó ń gbọ́ tiwọn, ó sì ń bi wọ́n léèrè.
So it happened that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions.
47 Ẹnu sì ya gbogbo àwọn tí ó gbọ́ ọ̀rọ̀ rẹ̀ fún òye àti ìdáhùn rẹ̀.
(All who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers.)
48 Nígbà tí wọ́n sì rí i, háà ṣe wọ́n, ìyá rẹ̀ sì bi í pé, “Ọmọ, èéṣe tí ìwọ fi ṣe wá bẹ́ẹ̀? Sá wò ó, baba rẹ̀ àti èmi ti ń fi ìbànújẹ́ wá ọ kiri.”
So upon seeing Him they were amazed, and His mother said to Him: “Son, why have you treated us like this? Look, your father and I have been searching for you in distress.”
49 Ó sì dáhùn wí fún wọn pé, “Èéṣe tí ẹ̀yin fi ń wá mi kiri? Ẹ̀yin kò mọ̀ pé èmi kò lè ṣàìmá wà níbi iṣẹ́ Baba mi?”
So He said to them: “Why were you seeking me? Didn't you know that I must be about my Father's concerns?”
50 Ọ̀rọ̀ tí o sọ kò sì yé wọn.
But they did not understand the statement that He made to them.
51 Ó sì bá wọn sọ̀kalẹ̀ lọ sí Nasareti, sì fi ara balẹ̀ fún wọn, ṣùgbọ́n ìyá rẹ̀ pa gbogbo nǹkan wọ̀nyí mọ́ nínú ọkàn rẹ̀.
Then He went down with them and came to Natsareth, and continued subordinating Himself to them; His mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
52 Jesu sì ń pọ̀ ní ọgbọ́n, sì ń dàgbà, ó sì wà ní ojúrere ní ọ̀dọ̀ Ọlọ́run àti ènìyàn.
And Jesus kept increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
