< Luke 2 >

1 Ó sì ṣe ní ọjọ́ wọ̀n-ọn-nì, àṣẹ ti ọ̀dọ̀ Kesari Augustu jáde wá pé, kí a kọ orúkọ gbogbo ayé sínú ìwé.
But it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus, that a census should be made of all the habitable world.
2 (Èyí ni ìkọ sínú ìwé èkínní tí a ṣe nígbà tí Kirene fi jẹ baálẹ̀ Siria.)
The census itself first took place when Cyrenius had the government of Syria.
3 Gbogbo àwọn ènìyàn sì lọ láti kọ orúkọ wọn sínú ìwé, olúkúlùkù sí ìlú ara rẹ̀.
And all went to be inscribed in the census roll, each to his own city:
4 Josẹfu pẹ̀lú sì gòkè láti Nasareti ni Galili, sí ìlú Dafidi ní Judea, tí à ń pè ní Bẹtilẹhẹmu; nítorí ti ìran àti ìdílé Dafidi ní í ṣe,
and Joseph also went up from Galilee out of the city Nazareth to Judaea, to David's city, the which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David,
5 láti kọ orúkọ rẹ̀, pẹ̀lú Maria aya rẹ̀ àfẹ́sọ́nà, tí oyún rẹ̀ ti tó bí.
to be inscribed in the census roll with Mary who was betrothed to him [as his] wife, she being great with child.
6 Ó sì ṣe, nígbà tí wọ́n wà níbẹ̀, ọjọ́ rẹ̀ pé tí òun yóò bí.
And it came to pass, while they were there, the days of her giving birth [to her child] were fulfilled,
7 Ó sì bí àkọ́bí rẹ̀ ọmọkùnrin, ó sì fi ọ̀já wé e, ó sì tẹ́ ẹ sínú ibùjẹ ẹran; nítorí tí ààyè kò sí fún wọn nínú ilé èrò.
and she brought forth her first-born son, and wrapped him up in swaddling-clothes and laid him in the manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
8 Àwọn olùṣọ́-àgùntàn ń bẹ tí wọ́n ń gbé ní ìlú náà, wọ́n ń ṣọ́ agbo àgùntàn wọn ní òru ní pápá tí wọ́n ń gbé.
And there were shepherds in that country abiding without, and keeping watch by night over their flock.
9 Angẹli Olúwa sì yọ sí wọn, ògo Olúwa sì ràn yí wọn ká, ẹ̀rù sì bà wọ́n gidigidi.
And lo, an angel of [the] Lord was there by them, and [the] glory of [the] Lord shone around them, and they feared [with] great fear.
10 Angẹli náà sì wí fún wọn pé, “Má bẹ̀rù: sá wò ó, mo mú ìyìnrere ayọ̀ ńlá fún yín wá, tí yóò ṣe ti ènìyàn gbogbo.
And the angel said to them, Fear not, for behold, I announce to you glad tidings of great joy, which shall be to all the people;
11 Nítorí a ti bí Olùgbàlà fún yín lónìí ní ìlú Dafidi, tí í ṣe Kristi Olúwa.
for to-day a Saviour has been born to you in David's city, who is Christ [the] Lord.
12 Èyí ni yóò sì ṣe àmì fún yín; ẹ̀yin yóò rí ọmọ ọwọ́ tí a fi ọ̀já wé, ó dùbúlẹ̀ ní ibùjẹ ẹran.”
And this is the sign to you: ye shall find a babe wrapped in swaddling-clothes, and lying in a manger.
13 Ọ̀pọ̀lọpọ̀ ogun ọ̀run sì darapọ̀ mọ́ angẹli náà ní òjijì, wọ́n ń yin Ọlọ́run, wí pé,
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying,
14 “Ògo ni fún Ọlọ́run lókè ọ̀run, àti ní ayé àlàáfíà, ìfẹ́ inú rere sí ènìyàn.”
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good pleasure in men.
15 Ó sì ṣe, nígbà tí àwọn angẹli náà padà kúrò lọ́dọ̀ wọn lọ sí ọ̀run, àwọn olùṣọ́-àgùntàn náà bá ara wọn sọ pé, “Ẹ jẹ́ kí á lọ tààrà sí Bẹtilẹhẹmu, kí á lè rí ohun tí ó ṣẹ̀, tí Olúwa fihàn fún wa.”
And it came to pass, as the angels departed from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, Let us make our way then now as far as Bethlehem, and let us see this thing that is come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.
16 Wọ́n sì wá lọ́gán, wọ́n sì rí Maria àti Josẹfu, àti ọmọ ọwọ́ náà, ó dùbúlẹ̀ nínú ibùjẹ ẹran.
And they came with haste, and found both Mary and Joseph, and the babe lying in the manger;
17 Nígbà tí wọ́n sì ti rí i, wọ́n sọ ohun tí a ti wí fún wọn nípa ti ọmọ yìí.
and having seen [it] they made known about the country the thing which had been said to them concerning this child.
18 Ẹnu sì ya gbogbo àwọn tí ó gbọ́ sí nǹkan wọ̀nyí tí a ti wí fún wọn láti ọ̀dọ̀ àwọn olùṣọ́-àgùntàn wá.
And all who heard [it] wondered at the things said to them by the shepherds.
19 Ṣùgbọ́n Maria pa gbogbo nǹkan wọ̀nyí mọ́, ó ń rò wọ́n nínú ọkàn rẹ̀.
But Mary kept all these things [in her mind], pondering [them] in her heart.
20 Àwọn olùṣọ́-àgùntàn sì padà lọ, wọ́n ń fi ògo fún Ọlọ́run, wọ́n sì yìn ín, nítorí ohun gbogbo tí wọ́n ti gbọ́ àti tí wọ́n ti rí, bí a ti wí i fún wọn.
And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all things which they had heard and seen, as it had been said to them.
21 Nígbà tí ọjọ́ mẹ́jọ sì pé láti kọ ọmọ náà nílà, wọ́n pe orúkọ rẹ̀ ní Jesu, bí a ti sọ ọ́ tẹ́lẹ̀ láti ọ̀dọ̀ angẹli náà wá kí á tó lóyún rẹ̀.
And when eight days were fulfilled for circumcising him, his name was called Jesus, which was the name given by the angel before he had been conceived in the womb.
22 Nígbà tí ọjọ́ ìwẹ̀nù Maria sì pé gẹ́gẹ́ bí òfin Mose, Josẹfu àti Maria gbé Jesu wá sí Jerusalẹmu láti fi í fún Olúwa
And when the days were fulfilled for their purifying according to the law of Moses, they brought him to Jerusalem to present [him] to the Lord
23 (bí a ti kọ ọ́ sínú òfin Olúwa pé, “Gbogbo ọmọ ọkùnrin tí ó ṣe àkọ́bí, òun ni a ó pè ní mímọ́ fún Olúwa”),
(as it is written in the law of [the] Lord: Every male that opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord),
24 àti láti rú ẹbọ gẹ́gẹ́ bí èyí tí a wí nínú òfin Olúwa: “Àdàbà méjì tàbí ọmọ ẹyẹlé méjì.”
and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of [the] Lord: A pair of turtle doves, or two young pigeons.
25 Sì kíyèsi i, ọkùnrin kan wà ní Jerusalẹmu, orúkọ rẹ̀ a máa jẹ́ Simeoni; ọkùnrin náà sì ṣe olóòtítọ́ àti olùfọkànsìn, ó ń retí ìtùnú Israẹli, Ẹ̀mí mímọ́ sì bà lé e.
And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; and this man was just and pious, awaiting the consolation of Israel, and [the] Holy Spirit was upon him.
26 A sì ti fihàn án láti ọ̀dọ̀ Ẹ̀mí Mímọ́ náà wá pé, òun kì yóò rí ikú, kí ó tó rí Kristi Olúwa.
And it was divinely communicated to him by the Holy Spirit, that he should not see death before he should see [the] Lord's Christ.
27 Ó sì ti ipa Ẹ̀mí wá sínú tẹmpili. Nígbà tí àwọn òbí rẹ̀ sì gbé Jesu wá, láti ṣe fún un bí ìṣe òfin.
And he came in the Spirit into the temple; and as the parents brought in the child Jesus that they might do for him according to the custom of the law,
28 Nígbà náà ni Simeoni gbé e ní apá rẹ̀, ó fi ìbùkún fún Ọlọ́run, ó ní:
he received him into his arms, and blessed God, and said,
29 “Olúwa Olódùmarè, nígbà yìí ni ó tó jọ̀wọ́ ọmọ ọ̀dọ̀ rẹ lọ́wọ́ lọ, ní àlàáfíà, gẹ́gẹ́ bí ọ̀rọ̀ rẹ.
Lord, now thou lettest thy bondman go, according to thy word, in peace;
30 Nítorí tí ojú mi ti rí ìgbàlà rẹ ná,
for mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
31 tí ìwọ ti pèsè sílẹ̀ níwájú ènìyàn gbogbo;
which thou hast prepared before the face of all peoples;
32 ìmọ́lẹ̀ láti mọ́ sí àwọn aláìkọlà, àti ògo Israẹli ènìyàn rẹ̀.”
a light for revelation of [the] Gentiles and [the] glory of thy people Israel.
33 Ẹnu sì ya Josẹfu àti ìyá rẹ̀ sí nǹkan tí a ń sọ sí i wọ̀nyí.
And his father and mother wondered at the things which were said concerning him.
34 Simeoni sì súre fún wọn, ó sì wí fún Maria ìyá rẹ̀ pé, “Kíyèsi i, a gbé ọmọ yìí kalẹ̀ fún ìṣubú àti ìdìde ọ̀pọ̀ ènìyàn ní Israẹli; àti fún àmì tí a ń sọ̀rọ̀-òdì sí;
And Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother, Lo, this [child] is set for the fall and rising up of many in Israel, and for a sign spoken against;
35 (idà yóò sì gún ìwọ náà ní ọkàn pẹ̀lú) kí á lè fi ìrònú ọ̀pọ̀ ọkàn hàn.”
(and even a sword shall go through thine own soul; ) so that [the] thoughts may be revealed from many hearts.
36 Ẹnìkan sì ń bẹ, Anna wòlíì, ọmọbìnrin Penueli, nínú ẹ̀yà Aṣeri: ọjọ́ ogbó rẹ̀ pọ̀, ó ti bá ọkọ gbé ní ọdún méje láti ìgbà wúńdíá rẹ̀ wá;
And there was a prophetess, Anna, daughter of Phanuel, of [the] tribe of Asher, who was far advanced in years, having lived with [her] husband seven years from her virginity,
37 Ó sì ṣe opó títí ó fi di ẹni ọdún mẹ́rìnlélọ́gọ́rin, ẹni tí kò kúrò ní tẹmpili, ṣùgbọ́n ó ń fi àwẹ̀ àti àdúrà sin Ọlọ́run lọ́sàn án àti lóru.
and herself a widow up to eighty-four years; who did not depart from the temple, serving night and day with fastings and prayers;
38 Ó sì wólẹ̀ ní àkókò náà, ó sì dúpẹ́ lọ́wọ́ Ọlọ́run pẹ̀lú, ó sì sọ̀rọ̀ rẹ̀ fún gbogbo àwọn tí ó ń retí ìdáǹdè Jerusalẹmu.
and she coming up the same hour gave praise to the Lord, and spoke of him to all those who waited for redemption in Jerusalem.
39 Nígbà tí wọ́n sì ti ṣe nǹkan gbogbo tán gẹ́gẹ́ bí òfin Olúwa, wọ́n padà lọ sí Galili, sí Nasareti ìlú wọn.
And when they had completed all things according to the law of [the] Lord, they returned to Galilee to their own city Nazareth.
40 Ọmọ náà sì ń dàgbà, ó sì ń lágbára, ó sì kún fún ọgbọ́n: oore-ọ̀fẹ́ Ọlọ́run sì ń bẹ lára rẹ̀.
And the child grew and waxed strong [in spirit], filled with wisdom, and God's grace was upon him.
41 Àwọn òbí rẹ̀ a sì máa lọ sí Jerusalẹmu ní ọdọọdún sí àjọ ìrékọjá.
And his parents went yearly to Jerusalem at the feast of the passover.
42 Nígbà tí ó sì di ọmọ ọdún méjìlá, wọ́n gòkè lọ sí Jerusalẹmu gẹ́gẹ́ bí ìṣe àjọ náà.
And when he was twelve years old, and they went up [to Jerusalem] according to the custom of the feast
43 Nígbà tí ọjọ́ wọn sì pé bí wọ́n ti ń padà bọ̀, ọmọ náà, Jesu dúró lẹ́yìn ní Jerusalẹmu; Josẹfu àti ìyá rẹ̀ kò mọ̀.
and had completed the days, as they returned, the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, and his parents knew not [of it];
44 Ṣùgbọ́n wọ́n ṣe bí ó wà ní ẹ̀gbẹ́ èrò, wọ́n rin ìrìn ọjọ́ kan; wọ́n wá a kiri nínú àwọn ará àti àwọn ojúlùmọ̀ wọn.
but, supposing him to be in the company that journeyed together, they went a day's journey, and sought him among their relations and acquaintances:
45 Nígbà tí wọn kò sì rí i, wọ́n padà sí Jerusalẹmu, wọ́n ń wá a kiri.
and not having found him they returned to Jerusalem seeking him.
46 Ó sì ṣe, lẹ́yìn ọjọ́ mẹ́ta wọ́n rí i nínú tẹmpili ó jókòó ní àárín àwọn olùkọ́ni, ó ń gbọ́ tiwọn, ó sì ń bi wọ́n léèrè.
And it came to pass, after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers and hearing them and asking them questions.
47 Ẹnu sì ya gbogbo àwọn tí ó gbọ́ ọ̀rọ̀ rẹ̀ fún òye àti ìdáhùn rẹ̀.
And all who heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.
48 Nígbà tí wọ́n sì rí i, háà ṣe wọ́n, ìyá rẹ̀ sì bi í pé, “Ọmọ, èéṣe tí ìwọ fi ṣe wá bẹ́ẹ̀? Sá wò ó, baba rẹ̀ àti èmi ti ń fi ìbànújẹ́ wá ọ kiri.”
And when they saw him they were amazed: and his mother said to him, Child, why hast thou dealt thus with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee distressed.
49 Ó sì dáhùn wí fún wọn pé, “Èéṣe tí ẹ̀yin fi ń wá mi kiri? Ẹ̀yin kò mọ̀ pé èmi kò lè ṣàìmá wà níbi iṣẹ́ Baba mi?”
And he said to them, Why [is it] that ye have sought me? did ye not know that I ought to be [occupied] in my Father's business?
50 Ọ̀rọ̀ tí o sọ kò sì yé wọn.
And they understood not the thing that he said to them.
51 Ó sì bá wọn sọ̀kalẹ̀ lọ sí Nasareti, sì fi ara balẹ̀ fún wọn, ṣùgbọ́n ìyá rẹ̀ pa gbogbo nǹkan wọ̀nyí mọ́ nínú ọkàn rẹ̀.
And he went down with them and came to Nazareth, and he was in subjection to them. And his mother kept all these things in her heart.
52 Jesu sì ń pọ̀ ní ọgbọ́n, sì ń dàgbà, ó sì wà ní ojúrere ní ọ̀dọ̀ Ọlọ́run àti ènìyàn.
And Jesus advanced in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and men.
