< Lamentations 4 >

1 Báwo ni wúrà ṣe sọ ògo dídán rẹ̀ nù, wúrà dídára di àìdán! Òkúta ibi mímọ́ wá túká sí oríta gbogbo òpópó.
Oh how is the gold become dim! how is the most fine gold changed! how are the stones of the sanctuary poured out at the corners of every street.
2 Báwo ni àwọn ọ̀dọ́mọkùnrin Sioni tí ó ṣe iyebíye, tí wọ́n fi wúrà dídára ṣe wá dàbí ìkòkò amọ̀ lásán iṣẹ́ ọwọ́ amọ̀kòkò!
The precious sons of Zion, valued equal to pure gold, how are they now esteemed as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter!
3 Àwọn ajáko pèsè ọmú wọn fún ìtọ́jú àwọn ọmọ wọn, ṣùgbọ́n àwọn ènìyàn mi wá láì lọ́kàn bí ògòǹgò ní aginjù.
Even wild beasts offer the breast, they give suck to their young ones: the daughter of my people is become cruel, like the ostriches in the wilderness.
4 Nítorí òǹgbẹ, ahọ́n àwọn ọmọ ọwọ́ lẹ̀ mọ́ òkè ẹnu wọn; àwọn ọmọdé bẹ̀bẹ̀ fún oúnjẹ, ṣùgbọ́n kò sí ẹni tí ó fi fún wọn.
The tongue of the suckling cleaveth to its palate by reason of thirst: babes ask for bread, there is not one to break it for them.
5 Àwọn tí ó ń jẹ ohun dáradára di òtòṣì ní òpópó. Àwọn tí a fi aṣọ dáradára wọ̀ ni wọ́n sùn ní orí òkìtì eérú.
Those that used to eat dainty food are desolate in the streets: they that were reared up on scarlet now embrace dunghills.
6 Ìjìyà àwọn ènìyàn mi tóbi ju ti Sodomu lọ, tí a sí ní ipò ní òjijì láìsí ọwọ́ láti ràn án lọ́wọ́.
For greater is the iniquity of the daughter of my people than the sin of Sodom, that was overthrown as it were in a moment, and no human hands were laid on her.
7 Ọmọ ọba ọkùnrin wọn mọ́ ju òjò-dídì, wọ́n sì funfun ju wàrà lọ wọ́n ni ìtọ́jú bí iyùn pupa, ìrísí wọn dàbí safire.
Her crowned princes were purer than snow, they were whiter than milk, they were more brilliant in body than pearls, more than the sapphire, their countenance:
8 Ṣùgbọ́n nísinsin yìí wọ́n dúdú ju èédú; wọn kò sì dá wọn mọ̀ ní òpópó. Ara wọn hun mọ́ egungun; ó sì gbẹ bí igi gbígbẹ.
Darker than black is now their visage; they are not to be recognized in the streets: their skin is shriveled fast upon their bones; it is dry, it is become like wood.
9 Àwọn tí ó kù nípasẹ̀ idà sàn ju àwọn tí ìyàn pa; tí ó wọ àkísà ebi, tí ó ń ṣòfò fún àìní oúnjẹ láti inú pápá.
Happier are those slain by the sword than those slain by hunger; for those poured forth their blood, being pierced through, —[these perished] without the fruits of the field.
10 Pẹ̀lú ọwọ́ àwọn obìnrin aláàánú ni wọ́n ṣe ọmọ wọn jẹ tí ó di oúnjẹ fún wọn nígbà tí a pa àwọn ènìyàn mi run.
The hands of merciful women cooked their own children: they became food unto them in the downfall of the daughter of my people.
11 Olúwa ti fi ihò kíkún fún ìbínú rẹ̀; ó sì tú ìbínú gbígbóná rẹ̀ jáde. Ó da iná ní Sioni tí ó jó ìpìlẹ̀ rẹ̀ run.
The Lord hath let loose all his fury: he hath poured out the fierceness of his anger: and he hath kindled a fire in Zion, which hath devoured her foundations.
12 Àwọn ọba ayé kò gbàgbọ́, tàbí àwọn ènìyàn ayé, wí pé àwọn ọ̀tá àti aninilára le wọ odi ìlú Jerusalẹmu.
The kings of the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world, would not believe that an adversary or an enemy could ever enter within the gates of Jerusalem.
13 Èyí ṣẹlẹ̀ nítorí ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ àwọn wòlíì àti àìṣedéédéé àwọn olórí àlùfáà, tí ó ta ẹ̀jẹ̀ àwọn olódodo sílẹ̀ láàrín rẹ̀.
[But it hath happened] because of the sins of her prophets, the iniquities of her priests, that had shed in the midst of her the blood of the righteous.
14 Nísinsin yìí wọ́n ń rìn kiri ní òpópó bí ọkùnrin tí ó fọ́jú. Ẹ̀jẹ̀ ara wọn sọ wọ́n di àbàwọ́n tí kò sẹ́ni tó láyà láti fọwọ́ kan aṣọ wọn.
They wandered about blindly in the streets, they became defiled with blood; so that men were not able to touch their garments.
Depart, ye unclean, they called out unto them: depart, depart, touch not. So they flee away and also wander about: men say among the nations, They shall no more sojourn there.
16 Olúwa ti tú wọn ká fúnra rẹ̀; kò sí bojútó wọn mọ́. Kò sí ọ̀wọ̀ fún olórí àlùfáà mọ́, àti àánú fún àwọn àgbàgbà.
The anger of the Lord hath divided them; he will no more look at them: the faces of the priests they respected not, and the elders they spared not.
17 Síwájú sí i, ojú wa kùnà fún wíwo ìrànlọ́wọ́ asán; láti orí ìṣọ́ wa ni à ń wò fún orílẹ̀-èdè tí kò le gbà wá là.
Even now our eyes anxiously wait for our valueless help: in our waiting have we waited for a nation that cannot help.
18 Wọ́n ń ṣọ́ wa kiri, àwa kò sì le rìn ní òpópó wa mọ́. Òpin wa ti súnmọ́, ọjọ́ wa sì níye nítorí òpin wa ti dé.
They hunt our steps, that we cannot walk in our streets: our end is near, our days are full: for our end is come.
19 Àwọn tí ń lé wa yára ju idì ojú ọ̀run lọ; wọ́n lé wa ní gbogbo orí òkè wọ́n sì gẹ̀gùn dè wá ní aginjù.
Swifter were our pursuers than the eagles of heaven: upon the mountains did they hotly follow us: in the wilderness did they lie in wait for us.
20 Ẹni àmì òróró Olúwa, èémí ìyè wa, ni wọ́n fi tàkúté wọn mú. Àwa rò pé lábẹ́ òjìji rẹ̀ ni àwa yóò máa gbé láàrín orílẹ̀-èdè gbogbo.
The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of the Lord, was caught in their pits, he, of whom we said, Under his shadow shall we live among the nations.
21 Ẹ yọ̀ kí inú yín sì dùn, ẹ̀yin ọmọbìnrin Edomu, ẹ̀yin tó ń gbé ní ilẹ̀ Usi. Ṣùgbọ́n, a ó gbé ago náà kọjá sọ́dọ̀ rẹ pẹ̀lú; ìwọ yóò yó bí ọ̀mùtí, ìwọ yóò sì rìn ní ìhòhò.
Be glad and rejoice, O daughter of Edom, that dwellest in the land of 'Uz: also unto thee shall the cup pass; thou wilt be drunken, and make thyself naked.
22 Ìwọ ọmọbìnrin Sioni, ìjìyà rẹ yóò dópin; kò ní mú ìgbèkùn rẹ pẹ́ mọ́. Ṣùgbọ́n, ìwọ ọmọbìnrin Edomu, yóò jẹ ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ rẹ ní yà yóò sì fi àìṣedéédéé rẹ hàn kedere.
Brought to an end is thy iniquity, O daughter of Zion; He will no more carry thee away into exile: He visiteth thy iniquity, O daughter of Edom; He layeth open thy sins.
