< Judges 1 >

1 Lẹ́yìn ikú Joṣua, ni orílẹ̀-èdè Israẹli béèrè lọ́wọ́ Olúwa pé, “Èwo nínú ẹ̀yà wa ni yóò kọ́kọ́ gòkè lọ bá àwọn ará Kenaani jagun fún wa?”
After the death of Joshua, the sons of Israel consulted the Lord, saying, “Who will ascend before us, against the Canaanite, and who will be the commander of the war?”
2 Olúwa sì dáhùn pé, “Juda ni yóò lọ; nítorí pé èmi ti fi ilẹ̀ náà lé e lọ́wọ́.”
And the Lord said: “Judah shall ascend. Behold, I have delivered the land into his hands.”
3 Nígbà náà ni àwọn olórí ẹ̀yà Juda béèrè ìrànlọ́wọ́ láti ọ̀dọ̀ àwọn ọmọ Simeoni arákùnrin wọn pé, “Ẹ wá bá wa gòkè lọ sí ilẹ̀ tí a ti fi fún wa, láti bá àwọn ará Kenaani jà kí a sì lé wọn kúrò, àwa pẹ̀lú yóò sì bá a yín lọ sí ilẹ̀ tiyín bákan náà láti ràn yín lọ́wọ́.” Àwọn ọmọ-ogun Simeoni sì bá àwọn ọmọ-ogun Juda lọ.
And Judah said to his brother Simeon, “Go up with me to my lot, and fight against the Canaanite, so that I also may go forth with you to your lot.” And Simeon went with him.
4 Nígbà tí àwọn ọmọ-ogun Juda sì kọlu wọ́n, Olúwa sì fi àwọn ará Kenaani àti àwọn ará Peresi lé wọn lọ́wọ́, wọ́n sì pa ẹgbẹ̀rún mẹ́wàá ọkùnrin ní Beseki.
And Judah went up, and the Lord delivered the Canaanite, as well as the Perizzite, into their hands. And they struck down ten thousand of the men at Bezek.
5 Ní Beseki ni wọ́n ti rí Adoni-Beseki, wọ́n sì bá a jagun, wọ́n sì ṣẹ́gun àwọn ará Kenaani àti Peresi.
And they found Adonibezek at Bezek, and they fought against him, and they struck down the Canaanite and the Perizzite.
6 Ọba Adoni-Beseki sá àsálà, ṣùgbọ́n ogun Israẹli lépa rẹ̀ wọ́n sì bá a, wọ́n sì gé àwọn àtàǹpàkò ọwọ́ àti ẹsẹ̀ rẹ̀.
Then Adonibezek fled. And they pursued him and captured him, and they cut off the ends of his hands and feet.
7 Nígbà náà ni Adoni-Beseki wí pé, “Àádọ́rin ọba ni èmi ti gé àtàǹpàkò wọn tí wọ́n sì ń ṣa èérún oúnjẹ jẹ lábẹ́ tábìlì mi. Báyìí Ọlọ́run ti san án fún mi gẹ́gẹ́ bí ohun tí mo ṣe sí wọn.” Wọ́n sì mú un wá sí Jerusalẹmu, ó sì kú síbẹ̀.
And Adonibezek said: “Seventy kings, with the ends of their hands and feet amputated, have been gathering the remnants of food under my table. Just as I have done, so has God repaid me.” And they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.
8 Àwọn ológun Juda sì ṣẹ́gun Jerusalẹmu, wọ́n sì kó o, wọ́n sì fi ojú idà kọlù ú, wọ́n sì dáná sun ìlú náà.
Then the sons of Judah, besieging Jerusalem, seized it. And they struck it with edge of the sword, delivering the entire city to be burned.
9 Lẹ́yìn nǹkan wọ̀nyí ni àwọn ogun Juda sọ̀kalẹ̀ lọ láti bá àwọn ará Kenaani tí ń gbé ní àwọn ìlú orí òkè ní gúúsù àti ní pẹ̀tẹ́lẹ̀ òkè lápá ìwọ̀-oòrùn Juda jagun.
And afterward, descending, they fought against the Canaanites who were living in the mountains, and in the south, and in the plains.
10 Ogun Juda sì tún ṣígun tọ ará Kenaani tí ń gbé Hebroni (tí orúkọ rẹ̀ ń jẹ́ Kiriati-Arba) ó sì ṣẹ́gun Ṣeṣai, Ahimani àti Talmai.
And Judah, going forth against the Canaanites who were living at Hebron, (the name of which from antiquity was Kiriath-Arba) struck down Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.
11 Láti ibẹ̀, wọ́n sì wọ́de ogun láti ibẹ̀ lọ bá àwọn ènìyàn tí ń gbé ní Debiri (tí à ń pè ní Kiriati-Seferi nígbà kan rí).
And continuing on from there, he went to the inhabitants of Debir, the old name of which was Kiriath-Sepher, that is, the City of Letters.
12 Kalebu sì wí pé, “Èmi yóò fi ọmọbìnrin mi Aksa fún ọkùnrin tí ó bá kọlu Kiriati-Seferi, tí ó sì gbà á ní ìgbéyàwó.”
And Caleb said, “Whoever will strike Kiriath-Sepher, and will lay waste to it, I will give to him my daughter Achsah as wife.”
13 Otnieli ọmọ Kenasi, àbúrò Kalebu sì gbà á, báyìí ni Kalebu sì fi ọmọbìnrin rẹ̀ Aksa fún un ní ìyàwó.
And when Othniel, the son of Kenaz, a younger brother of Caleb, had seized it, he gave his daughter Achsah to him in marriage.
14 Ní ọjọ́ kan, nígbà tí Aksa lọ sí ọ̀dọ̀ Otnieli, ó rọ̀ ọ́ kí ó béèrè ilẹ̀ oko lọ́wọ́ baba rẹ̀. Nígbà náà ni Aksa sọ̀kalẹ̀ ní orí kẹ́tẹ́kẹ́tẹ́ rẹ̀, Kalebu sì béèrè pé, “Kí ni kí èmi ṣe fún ọ?”
And as she was traveling on a journey, her husband admonished her, so that she would request a field from her father. And since she had sighed while sitting on her donkey, Caleb said to her, “What is it?”
15 Aksa sì dáhùn pé, “Mo ń fẹ́ kí o ṣe ojúrere kan fún mi, nígbà ti o ti fún mi ní ilẹ̀ ní gúúsù, fún mi ní ìsun omi náà pẹ̀lú.” Kalebu sì fún un ní ìsun òkè àti ìsun ìsàlẹ̀.
But she responded: “Give a blessing to me. For you have given me a dry land. Also give a watered land.” Therefore, Caleb gave to her the upper watered land and the lower watered land.
16 Àwọn ìran Keni tí wọ́n jẹ́ àna Mose bá àwọn ọmọ Juda gòkè láti ìlú ọ̀pẹ lọ sí aginjù Juda ní gúúsù Aradi; wọ́n sì lọ, orílẹ̀-èdè méjèèjì sì jùmọ̀ ń gbé pọ̀ láti ìgbà náà.
Now the sons of the Kenite, the relative of Moses, ascended from the City of Palms, with the sons of Judah, into the wilderness of his lot, which is toward the south of Arad. And they lived with him.
17 Ó sì ṣe, àwọn ológun Juda tẹ̀lé àwọn ológun Simeoni arákùnrin wọn, wọ́n sì lọ bá àwọn ará Kenaani tí ń gbé Sefati jagun, wọ́n sì run ìlú náà pátápátá, ní báyìí àwa yóò pe ìlú náà ní Horma (Horma èyí tí ń jẹ́ ìparun).
Then Judah went out with his brother Simeon, and together they struck the Canaanites who were living at Zephath, and they put them to death. And the name of the city was called Hormah, that is, Anathema.
18 Àwọn ogun Juda sì ṣẹ́gun Gasa àti àwọn agbègbè rẹ̀, Aṣkeloni àti Ekroni pẹ̀lú àwọn ìlú tí ó yí ọ̀kọ̀ọ̀kan wọn ká.
And Judah seized Gaza, with its parts, and Ashkelon as well as Ekron, with their borders.
19 Olúwa sì wà pẹ̀lú ẹ̀yà Juda, wọ́n gba ilẹ̀ òkè, ṣùgbọ́n wọn kò le lé àwọn ènìyàn tí ó wà ní pẹ̀tẹ́lẹ̀, nítorí wọ́n ní kẹ̀kẹ́ ogun onírin.
And the Lord was with Judah, and he possessed the mountains. But he was not able to wipe out the inhabitants of the valley. For they abounded with chariots armed with scythes.
20 Gẹ́gẹ́ bí Mose ti ṣèlérí, wọ́n fún Kalebu ní Hebroni, ó sì lé àwọn tí ń gbé ibẹ̀ kúrò; àwọn náà ni ìran àwọn ọmọ Anaki mẹ́ta.
And just as Moses had said, they gave Hebron to Caleb, who destroyed out of it the three sons of Anak.
21 Àwọn ẹ̀yà Benjamini ni wọn kò le lé àwọn Jebusi tí wọ́n ń gbé Jerusalẹmu, nítorí náà wọ́n ń gbé àárín àwọn Israẹli títí di òní.
But the sons of Benjamin did not wipe out the Jebusite inhabitants of Jerusalem. And the Jebusite has lived with the sons of Benjamin in Jerusalem, even to the present day.
22 Àwọn ẹ̀yà Josẹfu sì bá Beteli jagun, Olúwa síwájú pẹ̀lú wọn.
The house of Joseph also ascended against Bethel, and the Lord was with them.
23 Nígbà tí ẹ̀yà Josẹfu rán àwọn ènìyàn láti lọ yọ́ Beteli wò (orúkọ ìlú náà tẹ́lẹ̀ rí ni Lusi).
For when they were besieging the city, which was previously called Luz,
24 Àwọn ayọ́lẹ̀wò náà rí ọkùnrin kan tí ń jáde láti inú ìlú náà wá, wọ́n sì wí fún un pé, “Fi ọ̀nà àtiwọ ìlú yìí hàn wá, àwa ó sì dá ẹ̀mí rẹ sí, a ó sì ṣe àánú fún ọ.”
they saw a man departing from the city, and they said to him, “Reveal to us the entrance to the city, and we will act with mercy toward you.”
25 Ó sì fi ọ̀nà ìlú náà hàn wọ́n, wọ́n sì fi ojú idà kọlu ìlú náà, ṣùgbọ́n wọ́n dá ọkùnrin náà àti gbogbo ìdílé rẹ̀ si.
And when he had revealed it to them, they struck the city with the edge of the sword. But that man, and all his relatives, they released.
26 Ọkùnrin náà sí lọ sí ilẹ̀ àwọn ará Hiti, ó sì tẹ ìlú kan dó, ó sì pe orúkọ rẹ̀ ní Lusi, èyí sì ni orúkọ rẹ̀ títí di òní.
And having been sent away, he went out to the land of the Hittites, and he built a city there, and he called it Luz. And so it is called, even to the present day.
27 Ṣùgbọ́n Manase kò lé àwọn ará Beti-Ṣeani àti ìlú rẹ̀ wọ̀n-ọn-nì jáde, tàbí àwọn ará Taanaki àti àwọn ìgbèríko rẹ̀, tàbí àwọn ará Dori àti àwọn ìgbèríko rẹ̀, tàbí àwọn ará Ibleamu àti àwọn ìgbèríko rẹ̀, tàbí àwọn ará Megido àti àwọn ìgbèríko tí ó yí i ká, torí pé àwọn ará Kenaani ti pinnu láti máa gbé ìlú náà.
Likewise, Manasseh did not destroy Bethshean and Taanach, with their villages, nor the inhabitants of Dor and Ibleam and Megiddo, with their villages. And the Canaanite began to live with them.
28 Nígbà tí àwọn ọmọ Israẹli di alágbára, wọ́n mú àwọn ará Kenaani sìn bí i ẹrú, ṣùgbọ́n wọn kò fi agbára lé wọn jáde kúrò ní ilẹ̀ náà.
Then, after Israel had grown strong, he made them tributaries, but he was not willing to destroy them.
29 Efraimu náà kò lé àwọn ará Kenaani tí ó ń gbé Geseri jáde, ṣùgbọ́n àwọn ará Kenaani sì ń gbé láàrín àwọn ẹ̀yà Efraimu.
And now Ephraim did not put to death the Canaanite, who was living at Gezer; instead, he lived with him.
30 Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni àwọn Sebuluni kò lé àwọn ará Kenaani tí ń gbé Kitironi jáde tàbí àwọn ará Nahalali, ṣùgbọ́n wọ́n sọ wọ́n di ẹrú. Wọ́n sì ń sin àwọn ará Sebuluni.
Zebulun did not wipe out the inhabitants of Kitron and of Nahalal. Instead, the Canaanite lived in their midst and became their tributary.
31 Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni Aṣeri kò lé àwọn tí ń gbé ní Akko tàbí ní Sidoni tàbí ní Ahlabu tàbí ní Aksibu tàbí ní Helba tàbí ní Afiki tàbí ní Rehobu.
Likewise, Asher did not destroy the inhabitants of Acco and Sidon, Ahlab and Achzib, and Helbah, and Aphik, and Rehob.
32 Ṣùgbọ́n nítorí àwọn ará Aṣeri ń gbé láàrín àwọn ará Kenaani tí wọ́n ni ilẹ̀ náà.
And he lived in the midst of the Canaanites, the inhabitants of that land, for he did not put them to death.
33 Àwọn ẹ̀yà Naftali pẹ̀lú kò lé àwọn ará Beti-Ṣemeṣi àti Beti-Anati jáde; ṣùgbọ́n àwọn ẹ̀yà Naftali náà ń gbé àárín àwọn ará Kenaani tí ó ti ní ilẹ̀ náà rí, ṣùgbọ́n àwọn tí ń gbé Beti-Ṣemeṣi àti Beti-Anati ń sìn ìsìn tipátipá.
Naphtali also did not wipe out the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and Bethanath. And he lived among the Canaanite inhabitants of the land. And the Beth-shemeshites and Bethanathites were tributaries to him.
34 Àwọn ará Amori fi agbára dá àwọn ẹ̀yà Dani dúró sí àwọn ìlú orí òkè, wọn kò sì jẹ́ kí wọn sọ̀kalẹ̀ wá sí pẹ̀tẹ́lẹ̀.
And the Amorite hemmed in the sons of Dan on the mountain, and did not give them a place, so that they might descend to the flatlands.
35 Àwọn ará Amori ti pinnu láti dúró lórí òkè Heresi àti òkè Aijaloni àti ti Ṣaalbimu, ṣùgbọ́n nígbà tí ẹ̀yà Josẹfu di alágbára wọ́n borí Amori wọ́n sì mú wọn sìn.
And he lived on the mountain at Har-heres, which is translated as ‘resembling brick,’ and at Aijalon and Sha-alabbin. But the hand of the house of Joseph was very heavy, and he became a tributary to him.
36 Ààlà àwọn ará Amori sì bẹ̀rẹ̀ láti ìgòkè Akrabbimu kọjá lọ sí Sela àti síwájú sí i.
Now the border of the Amorite was from the Ascent of the Scorpion, to the Rock and the higher places.
