< Judges 8 >

1 Àwọn àgbàgbà ẹ̀yà Efraimu sì bínú gidigidi sí Gideoni wọ́n bi í léèrè pé, kí ló dé tí o fi ṣe irú èyí sí wa? Èéṣe tí ìwọ kò fi pè wá nígbà tí ìwọ kọ́kọ́ jáde lọ láti bá àwọn ará Midiani jagun? Ohùn ìbínú ni wọ́n fi bá a sọ̀rọ̀.
And the men of Ephraim said to him, “What is this, that you wanted to do, so that you would not call us when you went to fight against Midian?” And they rebuked him strongly, and came close to using violence.
2 Ṣùgbọ́n Gideoni dá wọn lóhùn pé, “Àṣeyọrí wo ni mo ti ṣe tí ó tó fiwé tiyín? Àṣàkù àjàrà Efraimu kò ha dára ju gbogbo ìkórè àjàrà Abieseri lọ bí?
And he responded to them: “But what could I have done that would be so great as what you have done? Is not one bunch of grapes of Ephraim better than the vintages of Abiezer?
3 Ọlọ́run ti fi Orebu àti Seebu àwọn olórí àwọn ará Midiani lé yín lọ́wọ́. Kí ni ohun tí Mose ṣe tí ó tó fiwé e yín tàbí tí ó tó àṣeyọrí i yín?” Nígbà tí ó wí èyí ríru ìbínú wọn rọlẹ̀.
The Lord has delivered into your hands the leaders of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb. What could I have done that would be so great as what you have done?” And when he had said this, their spirit, which was swelling up against him, was quieted.
4 Gideoni àti àwọn ọ̀ọ́dúnrún ọkùnrin tí ó wà pẹ̀lú rẹ̀ tẹ̀síwájú láti lépa àwọn ọ̀tá bí ó tilẹ̀ jẹ́ pé ó ti rẹ̀ wọ́n, wọ́n dé Jordani wọ́n sì kọjá sí òdìkejì.
And when Gideon had arrived at the Jordan, he crossed over it with the three hundred men who were with him. And they were so weary that they were unable to pursue those who were fleeing.
5 Ó wí fún àwọn ọkùnrin Sukkoti pé, “Ẹ fún àwọn ọmọ-ogun mi ní oúnjẹ díẹ̀, nítorí ó ti rẹ̀ wọ́n, èmi sì ń lépa Seba àti Salmunna àwọn ọba Midiani.”
And he said to the men of Succoth, “I beg you, give bread to the people who are with me, for they are greatly weakened, so that we may be able to pursue Zebah and Zalmunna, the kings of Midian.”
6 Ṣùgbọ́n àwọn ìjòyè Sukkoti fèsì pé ṣé ọwọ́ rẹ ti tẹ Seba àti Salmunna náà ni? Èéṣe tí àwa yóò ṣe fún àwọn ológun rẹ ní oúnjẹ?
The leaders of Succoth answered, “Perhaps the palms of the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna are in your hand, and for this reason, you request that we give bread to your army.”
7 Gideoni dá wọn lóhùn pé, “Ó dára, nígbà tí Olúwa bá fi Seba àti Salmunna lé mi lọ́wọ́ tán èmi yóò fi ẹ̀gún ijù àti ẹ̀gún òṣùṣú ya ẹran-ara yín.”
And he said to them, “So then, when the Lord will have delivered Zebah and Zalmunna into my hands, I will thresh your flesh with the thorns and briers of the desert.”
8 Láti ibẹ̀, ó lọ sí Penieli ó sì bẹ̀ wọ́n bẹ́ẹ̀ gẹ́gẹ́, ṣùgbọ́n àwọn náà dá a lóhùn bí àwọn ará Sukkoti ti dá a lóhùn.
And going up from there, he arrived at Penuel. And he spoke to the men of that place similarly. And they also answered him, just as the men of Succoth had answered.
9 Nígbà náà ni ó sọ fún àwọn ọkùnrin Penieli pé, “Nígbà tí mo bá ṣẹ́gun tí mo sì padà dé ní àlàáfíà, èmi yóò wó ilé ìṣọ́ yìí.”
And so he said to them also, “When I will have returned as a victor in peace, I will destroy this tower.”
10 Ní àsìkò náà Seba àti Salmunna wà ní Karkori pẹ̀lú ọmọ-ogun wọn tí ó tó ẹgbẹ̀rún mẹ́ẹ̀ẹ́dógún ọkùnrin, àwọn wọ̀nyí ni ó ṣẹ́kù nínú gbogbo ogun àwọn ènìyàn apá ìlà-oòrùn, nítorí ọ̀kẹ́ mẹ́fà ọkùnrin tí ó fi idà jà ti kú ní ojú ogun.
Now Zebah and Zalmunna were resting with their entire army. For fifteen thousand men were left out of all the troops of the eastern people. And one hundred twenty thousand warriors that drew the sword had been cut down.
11 Gideoni gba ọ̀nà tí àwọn darandaran máa ń rìn ní apá ìhà ìlà-oòrùn Noba àti Jogbeha ó sì kọjú ogun sí àwọn ọmọ-ogun náà nítorí wọ́n ti túra sílẹ̀.
And Gideon ascended by the way of those who were dwelling in tents, to the eastern part of Nobah and Jogbehah. And he struck the camp of the enemies, who were confident and were suspecting nothing adverse.
12 Seba àti Salmunna, àwọn ọba Midiani méjèèjì sá, ṣùgbọ́n Gideoni lépa wọn ó sì mú wọn, ó run gbogbo ogun wọn.
And Zebah and Zalmunna fled. And Gideon pursued and overtook them, sending their entire army into confusion.
13 Gideoni ọmọ Joaṣi gba ọ̀nà ìgòkè Heresi padà sẹ́yìn láti ojú ogun.
And returning from the war before sunrise,
14 Ó mú ọ̀dọ́mọkùnrin kan ará Sukkoti, ó sì béèrè àwọn ìbéèrè ní ọwọ́ rẹ̀, ọ̀dọ́mọkùnrin náà sì kọ orúkọ àwọn ìjòyè Sukkoti mẹ́tàdínlọ́gọ́rin fún un tí wọ́n jẹ́ àgbàgbà ìlú náà.
he took a boy from among the men of Succoth. And he asked him the names of the leaders and elders of Succoth. And he described seventy-seven men.
15 Nígbà náà ni Gideoni wá ó sọ fún àwọn ọkùnrin Sukkoti pé, “Seba àti Salmunna nìwọ̀nyí nípa àwọn tí ẹ̀yin fi mí ṣẹ̀fẹ̀ nígbà tí ẹ wí pé, ‘Ṣé ó ti ṣẹ́gun Seba àti Salmunna? Èéṣe tí àwa ó fi fún àwọn ọmọ-ogun rẹ tí ó ti rẹ̀ ní oúnjẹ?’”
And he went to Succoth, and he said to them: “Behold Zebah and Zalmunna, over whom you rebuked me, saying: ‘Perhaps the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna are in your hands, and for this reason, you request that we give bread to men who are languishing and weakened.’”
16 Ó mú àwọn àgbàgbà ìlú náà, ó sì fi kọ́ àwọn Sukkoti lọ́gbọ́n nípa jíjẹ wọ́n ní yà pẹ̀lú àwọn ẹ̀gún ijù àti ẹ̀gún ọ̀gàn.
Therefore, he took the elders of the city, and, using the thorns and briers of the desert, he threshed them with these, and he cut the men of Succoth to pieces.
17 Ó wó ilé ìṣọ́ Penieli, ó sì pa àwọn ọkùnrin ìlú náà.
He also overturned the tower of Penuel, and he killed the men of the city.
18 Gideoni bi Seba àti Salmunna pé, “Irú ọkùnrin tí ẹ pa ní Tabori, báwo ni wọ́n ṣe rí?” “Àwọn ọkùnrin náà dàbí rẹ ọ̀kọ̀ọ̀kan wọn dàbí ọmọ ọba,” ní ìdáhùn wọn.
And he said to Zebah and Zalmunna, “What kind of men were those whom you killed at Tabor?” They responded, “They were like you, and one of them was like the son of a king.”
19 Gideoni dáhùn pé, “Arákùnrin mi ni wọ́n, àwọn ọmọ ìyá mi. Mo fi Olúwa búra, bí ó bá ṣe pé ẹ dá ẹ̀mí wọn sí, èmi náà ò nípa yín.”
He answered them: “They were my brothers, the sons of my mother. As the Lord lives, if you had preserved them, I would not kill you.”
20 Ó yí padà sí Jeteri, ọmọ rẹ̀ tí ó dàgbà jùlọ, ó wí fún un pé, “Pa wọ́n!” Ṣùgbọ́n Jeteri kò fa idà rẹ̀ yọ láti pa wọ́n nítorí ó jẹ́ ọ̀dọ́mọdé ẹ̀rù sì bà á láti pa wọ́n.
And he said to Jether, his firstborn son, “Rise up, and put them to death.” But he did not draw his sword. For he was afraid, being still a boy.
21 Seba àti Salmunna dá Gideoni lóhùn pé, “Wá pa wá fún raàrẹ, ‘Nítorí bí ènìyàn bá ti rí bẹ́ẹ̀ ni agbára rẹ̀ yóò rí.’” Gideoni bọ́ síwájú ó sì pa wọ́n, ó sì mú ohun ọ̀ṣọ́ tí ó wà ní ọrùn àwọn ìbákasẹ wọn.
And Zebah and Zalmunna said: “You should rise up and rush against us. For the strength of a man is in accord with his age.” Gideon rose up, and he killed Zebah and Zalmunna. And he took the ornaments and studs, with which the necks of the royal camels are usually adorned.
22 Àwọn ará Israẹli wí fún Gideoni pé, “Jọba lórí wa—ìwọ, àwọn ọmọ rẹ àti àwọn ọmọ ọmọ rẹ pẹ̀lú, nítorí tí ìwọ ti gbà wá lọ́wọ́ àwọn ará Midiani.”
And all the men of Israel said to Gideon: “You should rule over us, and your son, and your son’s son. For you freed us from the hand of Midian.”
23 Ṣùgbọ́n Gideoni dá wọn lóhùn pé, “Èmi kì yóò jẹ ọba lórí yín, bẹ́ẹ̀ ni àwọn ọmọ mi kì yóò jẹ ọba lórí yín. Olúwa ni yóò jẹ ọba lórí yín.”
And he said to them: “I will not rule over you. Neither shall my son rule over you. Instead, the Lord shall rule over you.”
24 Gideoni sì wí pé, “Mo ní ẹ̀bẹ̀ kan tí mo fẹ́ bẹ̀ yín kí ẹnìkọ̀ọ̀kan yín fún mi ní yẹtí kọ̀ọ̀kan láti inú ohun ti ó kàn yín láti inú ìkógun.” (Àṣà àwọn ará Iṣmaeli ni láti máa fi yẹtí wúrà sétí.)
And he said to them: “I petition one request from you. Give me the earrings from your spoils.” For the Ishmaelites were accustomed to wear gold earrings.
25 Wọ́n dáhùn pé, “Tayọ̀tayọ̀ ni àwa yóò fi wọ́n sílẹ̀.” Wọ́n tẹ́ aṣọ kan sílẹ̀ ọkùnrin kọ̀ọ̀kan sì ń sọ yẹtí kọ̀ọ̀kan tí ó kàn wọ́n láti ibi ìkógun síbẹ̀.
They responded, “We are very willing to give them.” And spreading a cloak on the ground, they cast upon it the earrings from the spoils.
26 Ìwọ̀n òrùka wúrà tí ó béèrè fún tó ẹ̀ẹ́dẹ́gbẹ̀sán ìwọ̀n ṣékélì, láìka àwọn ohun ọ̀ṣọ́ àti ohun sísorọ̀ tí ó wà lára ìlẹ̀kẹ̀ ọrùn àti aṣọ elése àlùkò tí àwọn ọba Midiani ń wọ̀ tàbí àwọn ẹ̀wọ̀n tí ó wà ní ọrùn àwọn ìbákasẹ wọn.
And the weight of the earrings that he requested was one thousand seven hundred shekels of gold, aside from the ornaments, and necklaces, and purple garments, which the kings of Midian were accustomed to use, and aside from the gold chains on the camels.
27 Gideoni fi àwọn wúrà náà ṣe efodu èyí tí ó gbé kalẹ̀ ní Ofira ìlú rẹ̀. Àwọn ọmọ Israẹli sì sọ ara wọn di àgbèrè nípa sínsin-ín ní ibẹ̀. Ó sì di ìdẹ̀kùn fún Gideoni àti ìdílé rẹ̀.
And Gideon made an ephod from these, and he kept it in his city, Ophrah. And all of Israel committed fornication with it, and it became a ruin to Gideon and to all his house.
28 Báyìí ni a ṣe tẹrí àwọn ará Midiani ba níwájú àwọn ọmọ Israẹli bẹ́ẹ̀ ni wọn kò tún gbé orí mọ́. Ní ọjọ́ Gideoni, Israẹli wà ní àlàáfíà fún ogójì ọdún.
But Midian was humbled before the sons of Israel. Neither were they able any longer to lift up their necks. But the land rested for forty years, while Gideon presided.
29 Jerubbaali ọmọ Joaṣi padà lọ láti máa gbé ní ìlú rẹ̀.
And so Jerubbaal, the son of Joash, went and lived in his own house.
30 Àádọ́rin ọmọ ni Gideoni bí, nítorí ó ní ọ̀pọ̀lọpọ̀ àwọn ìyàwó.
And he had seventy sons, who went forth from his own thigh. For he had many wives.
31 Àlè rẹ̀, tó ń gbé ní Ṣekemu, pàápàá bí ọmọkùnrin kan fún un tí ó pe orúkọ rẹ̀ ní Abimeleki.
But his concubine, whom he had in Shechem, bore him a son named Abimelech.

And Gideon, the son of Joash, died in a good old age, and he was buried in the sepulcher of his father, at Ophrah, of the family of Ezri.
33 Láìpẹ́ jọjọ lẹ́yìn ikú Gideoni ni àwọn ará Israẹli ṣe àgbèrè tọ Baali lẹ́yìn, wọ́n fi Baali-Beriti ṣe òrìṣà wọn.
But after Gideon died, the sons of Israel turned away, and they committed fornication with the Baals. And they struck a covenant with Baal, so that he would be their god.
34 Wọn kò sì rántí Olúwa Ọlọ́run wọn, ẹni tí ó gbà wọ́n kúrò lọ́wọ́ àwọn ọ̀tá wọn gbogbo tí ó wà ní gbogbo àyíká wọn.
And they did not remember the Lord their God, who rescued them from the hands of all their enemies on all sides.
35 Wọ́n kùnà láti fi inú rere hàn sí ìdílé Jerubbaali (èyí ni Gideoni) fún gbogbo oore tí ó ṣe fún wọn.
Neither did they show mercy to the house of Jerubbaal Gideon, in accord with all the good that he had done for Israel.
