1 Lẹ́yìn ikú Joṣua, ni orílẹ̀-èdè Israẹli béèrè lọ́wọ́ Olúwa pé, “Èwo nínú ẹ̀yà wa ni yóò kọ́kọ́ gòkè lọ bá àwọn ará Kenaani jagun fún wa?”
It happened after the death of Joshua, the children of Israel asked of Jehovah, saying, "Who should go up first to fight for us against the Canaanites?"
2 Olúwa sì dáhùn pé, “Juda ni yóò lọ; nítorí pé èmi ti fi ilẹ̀ náà lé e lọ́wọ́.”
Jehovah said, "Judah should go up. Look, I have delivered the land into his hand."
3 Nígbà náà ni àwọn olórí ẹ̀yà Juda béèrè ìrànlọ́wọ́ láti ọ̀dọ̀ àwọn ọmọ Simeoni arákùnrin wọn pé, “Ẹ wá bá wa gòkè lọ sí ilẹ̀ tí a ti fi fún wa, láti bá àwọn ará Kenaani jà kí a sì lé wọn kúrò, àwa pẹ̀lú yóò sì bá a yín lọ sí ilẹ̀ tiyín bákan náà láti ràn yín lọ́wọ́.” Àwọn ọmọ-ogun Simeoni sì bá àwọn ọmọ-ogun Juda lọ.
Judah said to Simeon his brother, "Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with you into your lot." So Simeon went with him.
4 Nígbà tí àwọn ọmọ-ogun Juda sì kọlu wọ́n, Olúwa sì fi àwọn ará Kenaani àti àwọn ará Peresi lé wọn lọ́wọ́, wọ́n sì pa ẹgbẹ̀rún mẹ́wàá ọkùnrin ní Beseki.
Judah went up; and Jehovah delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they struck of them in Bezek ten thousand men.
5 Ní Beseki ni wọ́n ti rí Adoni-Beseki, wọ́n sì bá a jagun, wọ́n sì ṣẹ́gun àwọn ará Kenaani àti Peresi.
They found Adoni-Bezek in Bezek; and they fought against him, and they struck the Canaanites and the Perizzites.
6 Ọba Adoni-Beseki sá àsálà, ṣùgbọ́n ogun Israẹli lépa rẹ̀ wọ́n sì bá a, wọ́n sì gé àwọn àtàǹpàkò ọwọ́ àti ẹsẹ̀ rẹ̀.
But Adoni-Bezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.
7 Nígbà náà ni Adoni-Beseki wí pé, “Àádọ́rin ọba ni èmi ti gé àtàǹpàkò wọn tí wọ́n sì ń ṣa èérún oúnjẹ jẹ lábẹ́ tábìlì mi. Báyìí Ọlọ́run ti san án fún mi gẹ́gẹ́ bí ohun tí mo ṣe sí wọn.” Wọ́n sì mú un wá sí Jerusalẹmu, ó sì kú síbẹ̀.
Adoni-Bezek said, "Seventy kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, scavenged under my table: as I have done, so God has requited me." They brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.
8 Àwọn ológun Juda sì ṣẹ́gun Jerusalẹmu, wọ́n sì kó o, wọ́n sì fi ojú idà kọlù ú, wọ́n sì dáná sun ìlú náà.
The people of Judah fought against Jerusalem, and took it, and struck it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.
9 Lẹ́yìn nǹkan wọ̀nyí ni àwọn ogun Juda sọ̀kalẹ̀ lọ láti bá àwọn ará Kenaani tí ń gbé ní àwọn ìlú orí òkè ní gúúsù àti ní pẹ̀tẹ́lẹ̀ òkè lápá ìwọ̀-oòrùn Juda jagun.
Afterward the people of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites who lived in the hill country, and in the Negev, and in the lowland.
10 Ogun Juda sì tún ṣígun tọ ará Kenaani tí ń gbé Hebroni (tí orúkọ rẹ̀ ń jẹ́ Kiriati-Arba) ó sì ṣẹ́gun Ṣeṣai, Ahimani àti Talmai.
And Judah went against the Canaanites who lived in Hebron, and Hebron came out in opposition (now the name of Hebron before was Kiriath Arba), and they struck Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.
11 Láti ibẹ̀, wọ́n sì wọ́de ogun láti ibẹ̀ lọ bá àwọn ènìyàn tí ń gbé ní Debiri (tí à ń pè ní Kiriati-Seferi nígbà kan rí).
From there he went against the inhabitants of Debir. (Now the name of Debir before was Kiriath Sepher.)
12 Kalebu sì wí pé, “Èmi yóò fi ọmọbìnrin mi Aksa fún ọkùnrin tí ó bá kọlu Kiriati-Seferi, tí ó sì gbà á ní ìgbéyàwó.”
Caleb said, "He who strikes Kiriath Sepher, and takes it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter as wife."
13 Otnieli ọmọ Kenasi, àbúrò Kalebu sì gbà á, báyìí ni Kalebu sì fi ọmọbìnrin rẹ̀ Aksa fún un ní ìyàwó.
Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter as wife.
14 Ní ọjọ́ kan, nígbà tí Aksa lọ sí ọ̀dọ̀ Otnieli, ó rọ̀ ọ́ kí ó béèrè ilẹ̀ oko lọ́wọ́ baba rẹ̀. Nígbà náà ni Aksa sọ̀kalẹ̀ ní orí kẹ́tẹ́kẹ́tẹ́ rẹ̀, Kalebu sì béèrè pé, “Kí ni kí èmi ṣe fún ọ?”
It happened, when she came to him, that she got him to ask her father for a field. And she got off from her donkey, and Caleb said to her, "What would you like?"
15 Aksa sì dáhùn pé, “Mo ń fẹ́ kí o ṣe ojúrere kan fún mi, nígbà ti o ti fún mi ní ilẹ̀ ní gúúsù, fún mi ní ìsun omi náà pẹ̀lú.” Kalebu sì fún un ní ìsun òkè àti ìsun ìsàlẹ̀.
She said to him, "Give me a blessing; since you have given me the land in the Negev, give me also springs of water." So Caleb gave her according to her heart the upper springs and the lower springs.
16 Àwọn ìran Keni tí wọ́n jẹ́ àna Mose bá àwọn ọmọ Juda gòkè láti ìlú ọ̀pẹ lọ sí aginjù Juda ní gúúsù Aradi; wọ́n sì lọ, orílẹ̀-èdè méjèèjì sì jùmọ̀ ń gbé pọ̀ láti ìgbà náà.
And the descendants of the Kenite, Moses' father-in-law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the people of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which is in the Negev of Arad; and they went and lived with the people.
17 Ó sì ṣe, àwọn ológun Juda tẹ̀lé àwọn ológun Simeoni arákùnrin wọn, wọ́n sì lọ bá àwọn ará Kenaani tí ń gbé Sefati jagun, wọ́n sì run ìlú náà pátápátá, ní báyìí àwa yóò pe ìlú náà ní Horma (Horma èyí tí ń jẹ́ ìparun).
Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they struck the Canaanites who inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. The name of the city was called Hormah.
18 Àwọn ogun Juda sì ṣẹ́gun Gasa àti àwọn agbègbè rẹ̀, Aṣkeloni àti Ekroni pẹ̀lú àwọn ìlú tí ó yí ọ̀kọ̀ọ̀kan wọn ká.
Also Judah took Gaza with its territory, and Ashkelon with its territory, and Ekron with its territory, and Ashdod with its surrounding lands.
19 Olúwa sì wà pẹ̀lú ẹ̀yà Juda, wọ́n gba ilẹ̀ òkè, ṣùgbọ́n wọn kò le lé àwọn ènìyàn tí ó wà ní pẹ̀tẹ́lẹ̀, nítorí wọ́n ní kẹ̀kẹ́ ogun onírin.
Jehovah was with Judah; and drove out the inhabitants of the hill country; for he could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.
20 Gẹ́gẹ́ bí Mose ti ṣèlérí, wọ́n fún Kalebu ní Hebroni, ó sì lé àwọn tí ń gbé ibẹ̀ kúrò; àwọn náà ni ìran àwọn ọmọ Anaki mẹ́ta.
They gave Hebron to Caleb, as Moses had spoken. And from there he possessed the three cities, and he drove out from there the three sons of Anak.
21 Àwọn ẹ̀yà Benjamini ni wọn kò le lé àwọn Jebusi tí wọ́n ń gbé Jerusalẹmu, nítorí náà wọ́n ń gbé àárín àwọn Israẹli títí di òní.
The people of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites who inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the people of Benjamin in Jerusalem to this day.
22 Àwọn ẹ̀yà Josẹfu sì bá Beteli jagun, Olúwa síwájú pẹ̀lú wọn.
And the house of Joseph also went up against Bethel; and Jehovah was with them.
23 Nígbà tí ẹ̀yà Josẹfu rán àwọn ènìyàn láti lọ yọ́ Beteli wò (orúkọ ìlú náà tẹ́lẹ̀ rí ni Lusi).
And the house of Joseph sent out spies to Bethel. (Now the name of the city before was Luz.)
24 Àwọn ayọ́lẹ̀wò náà rí ọkùnrin kan tí ń jáde láti inú ìlú náà wá, wọ́n sì wí fún un pé, “Fi ọ̀nà àtiwọ ìlú yìí hàn wá, àwa ó sì dá ẹ̀mí rẹ sí, a ó sì ṣe àánú fún ọ.”
And the spies saw a man coming out of the city, and they captured him, and they said to him, "Please show us the entrance into the city, and we will show you mercy."
25 Ó sì fi ọ̀nà ìlú náà hàn wọ́n, wọ́n sì fi ojú idà kọlu ìlú náà, ṣùgbọ́n wọ́n dá ọkùnrin náà àti gbogbo ìdílé rẹ̀ si.
He showed them the entrance into the city; and they struck the city with the edge of the sword; but they let the man go and all his family.
26 Ọkùnrin náà sí lọ sí ilẹ̀ àwọn ará Hiti, ó sì tẹ ìlú kan dó, ó sì pe orúkọ rẹ̀ ní Lusi, èyí sì ni orúkọ rẹ̀ títí di òní.
The man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called its name Luz, which is its name to this day.
27 Ṣùgbọ́n Manase kò lé àwọn ará Beti-Ṣeani àti ìlú rẹ̀ wọ̀n-ọn-nì jáde, tàbí àwọn ará Taanaki àti àwọn ìgbèríko rẹ̀, tàbí àwọn ará Dori àti àwọn ìgbèríko rẹ̀, tàbí àwọn ará Ibleamu àti àwọn ìgbèríko rẹ̀, tàbí àwọn ará Megido àti àwọn ìgbèríko tí ó yí i ká, torí pé àwọn ará Kenaani ti pinnu láti máa gbé ìlú náà.
Manasseh did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth Shean and its towns, nor Taanach and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns; but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.
28 Nígbà tí àwọn ọmọ Israẹli di alágbára, wọ́n mú àwọn ará Kenaani sìn bí i ẹrú, ṣùgbọ́n wọn kò fi agbára lé wọn jáde kúrò ní ilẹ̀ náà.
It happened, when Israel had grown strong, that they put the Canaanites to forced labor, and did not utterly drive them out.
29 Efraimu náà kò lé àwọn ará Kenaani tí ó ń gbé Geseri jáde, ṣùgbọ́n àwọn ará Kenaani sì ń gbé láàrín àwọn ẹ̀yà Efraimu.
Ephraim didn't drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer; but the Canaanites lived in Gezer among them.
30 Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni àwọn Sebuluni kò lé àwọn ará Kenaani tí ń gbé Kitironi jáde tàbí àwọn ará Nahalali, ṣùgbọ́n wọ́n sọ wọ́n di ẹrú. Wọ́n sì ń sin àwọn ará Sebuluni.
Zebulun didn't drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites lived among them, and became subject to forced labor.
31 Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni Aṣeri kò lé àwọn tí ń gbé ní Akko tàbí ní Sidoni tàbí ní Ahlabu tàbí ní Aksibu tàbí ní Helba tàbí ní Afiki tàbí ní Rehobu.
Asher did not drive out the inhabitants of Acco, nor the inhabitants of Sidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob;
32 Ṣùgbọ́n nítorí àwọn ará Aṣeri ń gbé láàrín àwọn ará Kenaani tí wọ́n ni ilẹ̀ náà.
but the Asherites lived among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; for they did not drive them out.
33 Àwọn ẹ̀yà Naftali pẹ̀lú kò lé àwọn ará Beti-Ṣemeṣi àti Beti-Anati jáde; ṣùgbọ́n àwọn ẹ̀yà Naftali náà ń gbé àárín àwọn ará Kenaani tí ó ti ní ilẹ̀ náà rí, ṣùgbọ́n àwọn tí ń gbé Beti-Ṣemeṣi àti Beti-Anati ń sìn ìsìn tipátipá.
Naphtali didn't drive out the inhabitants of Beth Shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth Anath; but he lived among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth Shemesh and of Beth Anath became subject to forced labor.
34 Àwọn ará Amori fi agbára dá àwọn ẹ̀yà Dani dúró sí àwọn ìlú orí òkè, wọn kò sì jẹ́ kí wọn sọ̀kalẹ̀ wá sí pẹ̀tẹ́lẹ̀.
The Amorites forced the people of Dan into the hill country; for they would not allow them to come down to the valley;
35 Àwọn ará Amori ti pinnu láti dúró lórí òkè Heresi àti òkè Aijaloni àti ti Ṣaalbimu, ṣùgbọ́n nígbà tí ẹ̀yà Josẹfu di alágbára wọ́n borí Amori wọ́n sì mú wọn sìn.
but the Amorites would dwell in Mount Heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became subject to forced labor.
36 Ààlà àwọn ará Amori sì bẹ̀rẹ̀ láti ìgòkè Akrabbimu kọjá lọ sí Sela àti síwájú sí i.
The border of the Amorites was from the ascent of Akrabbim, from Sela and upward.
