< Joshua 9 >
1 Nísinsin yìí, nígbà tí gbogbo ọba tó wà ní ìwọ̀-oòrùn Jordani gbọ́ nípa nǹkan wọ̀nyí, àwọn náà tí ó wà ní orí òkè àti àwọn tí ó wà ní ẹsẹ̀ òkè, àti gbogbo àwọn tí ó wà ní agbègbè Òkun Ńlá títí ó fi dé Lebanoni (àwọn ọba Hiti, Amori, Kenaani, Peresi, Hifi àti Jebusi)
And when all the Kings that were beyonde Iorden, in the mountaines and in the valleis, and by all the coastes of the great Sea ouer against Lebanon (as the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hiuites, and the Iebusites) heard thereof,
2 wọ́n sì kó ara wọn jọ láti bá Joṣua àti Israẹli jagun.
They gathered themselues together, to fight against Ioshua, and against Israel with one accord.
3 Ṣùgbọ́n nígbà tí àwọn ènìyàn Gibeoni gbọ́ ohun tí Joṣua ṣe sí Jeriko àti Ai,
But the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Ioshua had done vnto Iericho, and to Ai.
4 wọ́n dá ọgbọ́n ẹ̀tàn. Wọ́n lọ gẹ́gẹ́ bí aṣojú tí kẹ́tẹ́kẹ́tẹ́ wọn kún fún ẹrù tí a fi àwọn àpò tó ti gbó dì, àti àwọn awọ ọtí wáìnì tó ti gbó tí a tún rán.
And therefore they wrought craftily: for they went, and fayned themselues ambassadours, and tooke olde sackes vpon their asses, and olde bottels for wine, both rent and bound vp,
5 Àwọn ọkùnrin náà sì wọ bàtà àti aṣọ tí ó ti gbó. Gbogbo oúnjẹ tí wọ́n pèsè fún ara wọn sì bu.
And olde shoes and clouted vpon their feete: also the raiment vpon them was old, and all their prouision of bread was dried, and mouled.
6 Wọ́n sì tọ Joṣua lọ ní ibùdó ní Gilgali, wọ́n sì sọ fún òun àti àwọn ọkùnrin Israẹli pé, “Ìlú òkèrè ní àwọn ti wá, ẹ ṣe àdéhùn àlàáfíà pẹ̀lú wa.”
So they came vnto Ioshua into the hoste to Gilgal, and said vnto him, and vnto the men of Israel, Wee be come from a farre countrey: nowe therefore make a league with vs.
7 Àwọn ọkùnrin Israẹli sọ fún àwọn ará Hifi pé, “Ṣùgbọ́n bóyá tòsí wa ni ẹ ń gbé. Báwo ni a ó ṣe lè ṣe àdéhùn pẹ̀lú yín?”
Then the men of Israel said vnto the Hiuites, It may be that thou dwellest among vs, how then can I make a league with thee?
8 “Ìránṣẹ́ rẹ ní àwa í ṣe.” Wọ́n sọ fún Joṣua. Ṣùgbọ́n Joṣua béèrè, “Ta ni yín àti pé níbo ni ẹ̀yin ti wá?”
And they said vnto Ioshua, We are thy seruants. Then Ioshua saide vnto them, Who are ye? and whence come ye?
9 Wọ́n sì dáhùn pé, “Ní ilẹ̀ òkèèrè ní àwọn ìránṣẹ́ rẹ tí wá, nítorí orúkọ Olúwa Ọlọ́run rẹ. Nítorí tí àwa ti gbọ́ òkìkí rẹ àti ohun gbogbo tí ó ti ṣe ní Ejibiti,
And they answered him, From a very farre countrey thy seruants are come for the Name of the Lord thy God: for we haue heard his fame and all that he hath done in Egypt,
10 àti ohun gbogbo tí ó ti ṣe sí ọba àwọn Amori méjèèje tí ń bẹ ní òkè Jordani, sí Sihoni ọba Heṣboni, àti Ogu ọba Baṣani, tí wọ́n jẹ ọba ní Aṣtarotu.
And all that he hath done to the two Kings of the Amorites that were beyonde Iorden, to Sihon King of Heshbon, and to Og King of Bashan, which were at Ashtaroth.
11 Àwọn àgbàgbà wa àti gbogbo àwọn tí ń gbé ìlú wa sọ fún wa pé, ‘Ẹ mú oúnjẹ lọ́wọ́ fún ìrìnàjò yín, ẹ lọ pàdé wọn, kí ẹ sì sọ fún wọn pé, “Àwa ni ìránṣẹ́ yín, ẹ dá àdéhùn pẹ̀lú wa.”’
Wherefore our elders, and all the inhabitants of our countrey spake to vs, saying, Take vitailes with you for the iourney, and go to meete them, and say vnto them, Wee are your seruants: now therefore make ye a league with vs.
12 Gbígbóná ní a mú oúnjẹ wa wá, nígbà tí a dì í ní ilé ní ọjọ́ tí à ń bọ̀ wá sọ́dọ̀ yín. Ṣùgbọ́n ẹ wò ó bí ó ṣe gbẹ àti bí ó sì ṣe bu nísinsin yìí.
This our bread we tooke it hote with vs for vittailes out of our houses, the day we departed to come vnto you: but nowe beholde, it is dried, and it is mouled.
13 Àti ìgò wáìnì wọ̀nyí, tí àwa rọ kún tuntun ni, ṣùgbọ́n ẹ wò ó bí wọ́n ti sán. Aṣọ àti bàtà wa ni ó sì ti gbó nítorí ìrìnàjò ọ̀nà jíjìn.”
Also these bottels of wine which we filled, were newe, and lo, they be rent, and these our garments and our shooes are olde, by reason of the exceeding great iourney.
14 Àwọn ọkùnrin Israẹli sì yẹ oúnjẹ wọn wò, wọn kò sì wádìí ní ọwọ́ Olúwa.
And the men accepted their tale concerning their vittailes, and counselled not with the mouth of the Lord.
15 Nígbà náà ni Joṣua ṣe àdéhùn àlàáfíà pẹ̀lú wọn láti dá wọn sí, àti àwọn olórí ìjọ ènìyàn fi ọwọ́ sí àdéhùn náà nípa ṣíṣe ìbúra.
So Ioshua made peace with them, and made a league with them, that he would suffer them to liue: also the Princes of the Congregation sware vnto them.
16 Ní ẹ̀yìn ọjọ́ mẹ́ta tí wọ́n ti ṣe àdéhùn pẹ̀lú àwọn ará Gibeoni, àwọn ọmọ Israẹli gbọ́ pé aládùúgbò wọn ni wọ́n, tí ń gbé ní tòsí wọn.
But at the end of three dayes, after they had made a league with them, they heard that they were their neighbours, and that they dwelt among them.
17 Bẹ́ẹ̀ ní àwọn ọmọ Israẹli jáde, wọ́n sì dé ìlú wọn ní ọjọ́ kẹta: Gibeoni, Kefira, Beeroti àti Kiriati-Jearimu.
And the children of Israel tooke their iourney, and came vnto their cities the third day, and their cities were Gibeon, and Chephirah, and Beeroth and Kiriath-iearim.
18 Ṣùgbọ́n àwọn ọmọ Israẹli kò si kọlù wọ́n, nítorí pé àwọn àgbàgbà ìjọ ènìyàn ti búra fún wọn ní orúkọ Olúwa Ọlọ́run Israẹli. Gbogbo ènìyàn sì kùn sí àwọn àgbàgbà náà,
And the children of Israel slewe them not, because the Princes of the Congregation had sworne vnto them by the Lord God of Israel: wherefore all the Congregation murmured against the Princes.
19 ṣùgbọ́n gbogbo àwọn olórí dáhùn pé, “Àwa ti búra fún wọn ní orúkọ Olúwa Ọlọ́run Israẹli, a kò sì lè fọwọ́ kàn wọ́n nísinsin yìí.
Then all the Princes said vnto all the Congregation, We haue sworne vnto them by the Lord God of Israel: nowe therefore we may not touch them.
20 Èyí ní àwa yóò ṣe sí wọn, àwa yóò dá wọn sí, kí ìbínú kí ó má ba à wá sórí wa, nítorí ìbúra tí a búra fún wọn.”
But this we wil doe to them, and let them liue, least the wrath be vpon vs because of the othe which we sware vnto them.
21 Wọ́n tẹ̀síwájú, “Ẹ dá wọn sí, ṣùgbọ́n ẹ jẹ́ kí wọn jẹ́ gégigégi àti apọnmi fún gbogbo ìlú.” Àwọn àgbàgbà náà sì mú ìlérí wọn ṣẹ fún wọn.
And the Princes sayd vnto them againe, Let them liue, but they shall hewe wood, and drawe water vnto all the Congregation, as the Princes appoint them.
22 Nígbà náà ni Joṣua pe àwọn ọmọ Gibeoni jọ pé, “Èéṣe tí ẹ̀yin fi tàn wá wí pe, ‘Àwa gbé ní ibi tí ó jìnnà sí yín,’ nígbà tí ó jẹ́ pé tòsí wa ní ẹ̀yin ń gbé?
Ioshua then called them, and talked with them, and sayd, Wherefore haue ye beguiled vs, saying, We are very farre from you, when ye dwel among vs?
23 Nísinsin yìí, ẹ̀yin di ẹni ègún, ẹ̀yin kò sì ní kúrò ní gégigégi àti apọnmi fún ilé Ọlọ́run mi.”
Now therefore ye are cursed, and there shall none of you be freed from being bondmen, and hewers of wood, and drawers of water for the house of my God.
24 Wọ́n sì dá Joṣua lóhùn pé, “Nítorí tí a sọ fún àwọn ìránṣẹ́ rẹ dájúṣáká bí Olúwa Ọlọ́run rẹ ti pàṣẹ fún Mose ìránṣẹ́ rẹ̀, láti fún yín ní gbogbo ilẹ̀ náà, kí ó sì pa gbogbo olùgbé ilẹ̀ náà run kúrò ní iwájú yín. Nítorí náà, àwa bẹ̀rù ẹ̀mí wa nítorí yín, èyí sì ni ìdí tí a fi ṣe bẹ́ẹ̀.
And they answered Ioshua, and sayd, Because it was tolde thy seruants, that the Lord thy God had commanded his seruant Moses to giue you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land out of your sight, therefore we were exceeding sore afraid for our liues at the presence of you, and haue done this thing:
25 Nísinsin yìí, àwa wà ní ọwọ́ yín. Ohunkóhun tí ẹ bá rò pé ó yẹ ó si tọ́ lójú yín ní kí ẹ fi wá ṣe.”
And beholde nowe, we are in thine hand: doe as it seemeth good and right in thine eyes to doe vnto vs.
26 Bẹ́ẹ̀ ní Joṣua sì gbà wọ́n là kúrò ní ọwọ́ àwọn ọmọ Israẹli. Wọn kò sì pa wọ́n.
Euen so did he vnto them, and deliuered them out of the hand of the children of Israel, that they slewe them not.
27 Ní ọjọ́ náà ni ó sọ àwọn Gibeoni di aṣẹ́gi àti apọnmi fún àwọn ará ìlú àti fún pẹpẹ Olúwa ní ibi tí Olúwa yóò yàn. Báyìí ni wọ́n wà títí di òní yìí.
And Ioshua appointed them that same day to be hewers of wood, and drawers of water for the Congregation, and for the altar of the Lord vnto this day, in the place which he should chuse.
