< Jonah 3 >
1 Ọ̀rọ̀ Olúwa sì tọ Jona wá nígbà kejì wí pé:
The word of the LORD came to Jonah the second time, saying,
2 “Dìde lọ sí Ninefe, ìlú ńlá a nì, kí o sì kéde sí i, ìkéde tí mo sọ fún ọ.”
"Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and proclaim to it the message that I give you."
3 Jona sì dìde ó lọ sí Ninefe gẹ́gẹ́ bí ọ̀rọ̀ Olúwa. Ninefe jẹ́ ìlú títóbi gidigidi, ó tó ìrìn ọjọ́ mẹ́ta.
So Jonah arose, and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, three days' journey across.
4 Jona sì bẹ̀rẹ̀ sí wọ ìlú náà lọ ní ìrìn ọjọ́ kan, ó sì ń kéde, ó sì wí pé, “Níwọ́n ogójì ọjọ́ sí i, a ó bi Ninefe wó.”
Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried out, and said, "Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown."
5 Àwọn ènìyàn Ninefe sì gba Ọlọ́run gbọ́. Wọ́n sì kéde àwẹ̀, gbogbo wọ́n sì wọ aṣọ ọ̀fọ̀, bẹ̀rẹ̀ láti orí ọmọdé títí dé orí àgbà wọn.
The people of Nineveh believed God; and they proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
6 Ọ̀rọ̀ náà sì dé ọ̀dọ̀ ọba Ninefe, ó sì dìde kúrò lórí ìtẹ́ rẹ̀, ó sì bọ́ aṣọ ìgúnwà rẹ̀ kúrò lára rẹ̀, ó sì da aṣọ ọ̀fọ̀ bora, ó sì jókòó nínú eérú.
The news reached the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and took off his royal robe, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
7 Nígbà náà ní ó kéde rẹ̀ ni Ninefe pé, “Kí a la Ninefe já nípa àṣẹ ọba, àti àwọn àgbàgbà rẹ̀ pé: “Má ṣe jẹ́ kí ènìyàn, tàbí ẹranko, ọ̀wọ́ ẹran tàbí agbo ẹran, tọ́ ohunkóhun wò, má jẹ́ kí wọn jẹ tàbí mu omi.
He made a proclamation and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, "Let neither man nor animal, herd nor flock, taste anything; let them not feed, nor drink water;
8 Ṣùgbọ́n jẹ́ kí ènìyàn àti ẹranko da aṣọ ọ̀fọ̀ bo ara, kí wọn sì kígbe kíkan sí Ọlọ́run, sì jẹ́ kí wọn yípadà, olúkúlùkù kúrò ní ọ̀nà ibi rẹ̀ àti kúrò ní ìwà ìpa tí ó wà lọ́wọ́ wọn.
but let them be covered with sackcloth, both man and animal, and let them cry mightily to God. Yes, let them turn everyone from his evil way, and from the violence that is in his hands.
9 Ta ni ó lè mọ̀ bí Ọlọ́run yóò yípadà kí ó sì ronúpìwàdà, kí ó sì yípadà kúrò ní ìbínú gbígbóná rẹ̀, kí àwa má ṣègbé?”
Who knows whether God will not turn and relent, and turn away from his fierce anger, so that we might not perish?"
10 Ọlọ́run sì rí ìṣe wọn pé wọ́n yípadà kúrò ní ọ̀nà ibi wọn, Ọlọ́run sì ronúpìwàdà ibi tí òun ti wí pé òun yóò ṣe sí wọn, òun kò sì ṣe e mọ́.
God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way. God relented of the disaster which he said he would do to them, and he did not do it.
