< John 3 >
1 Ọkùnrin kan sì wà nínú àwọn Farisi, tí a ń pè ní Nikodemu, ìjòyè kan láàrín àwọn Júù.
Now there was one of the Pharisees whose name was Nicodemus--a ruler among the Jews.
2 Òun náà ní ó tọ Jesu wá ní òru, ó sì wí fún un pé, Rabbi, àwa mọ̀ pé olùkọ́ni láti ọ̀dọ̀ Ọlọ́run wá ni ìwọ ń ṣe, nítorí pé kò sí ẹni tí ó lè ṣe iṣẹ́ àmì wọ̀nyí tí ìwọ ń ṣe, bí kò ṣe pé Ọlọ́run wà pẹ̀lú rẹ̀.
He came to Jesus by night and said, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher from God; for no one can do these miracles which you are doing, unless God is with him.
3 Jesu dáhùn ó sì wí fún un pé, “Lóòótọ́ lóòótọ́ ni mo wí fún ọ, bí kò ṣe pé a tún ènìyàn bí, òun kò lè rí ìjọba Ọlọ́run.”
"In most solemn truth I tell you," answered Jesus, "that unless a man is born anew he cannot see the Kingdom of God."
4 Nikodemu wí fún un pé, a ó ti ṣe lè tún ènìyàn bí nígbà tí ó di àgbàlagbà tan? Ó ha lè wọ inú ìyá rẹ̀ lọ nígbà kejì, kí a sì bí i?
"How is it possible," Nicodemus asked, "for a man to be born when he is old? Can he a second time enter his mother's womb and be born?"
5 Jesu dáhùn wí pé, “Lóòótọ́ lóòótọ́ ni mo wí fún ọ, bí kò ṣe pé a fi omi àti Ẹ̀mí bí ènìyàn, òun kò lè wọ ìjọba Ọlọ́run.
"In most solemn truth I tell you," replied Jesus, "that unless a man is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God.
6 Èyí tí a bí nípa ti ara, ti ara ni; èyí tí a sì bí nípa ti Ẹ̀mí, ti Ẹ̀mí ni.
Whatever has been born of the flesh is flesh, and whatever has been born of the Spirit is spirit.
7 Kí ẹnu kí ó má ṣe yà ọ́, nítorí mo wí fún ọ pé, ‘A kò lè ṣe aláìtún yín bí.’
Do not be astonished at my telling you, 'You must all be born anew.'
8 Afẹ́fẹ́ ń fẹ́ sí ibi tí ó gbé wù ú, ìwọ sì ń gbọ́ ìró rẹ̀, ṣùgbọ́n ìwọ kò mọ ibi tí ó gbé ti wá, àti ibi tí ó gbé ń lọ, gẹ́gẹ́ bẹ́ẹ̀ ni olúkúlùkù ẹni tí a bí nípa ti Ẹ̀mí.”
The wind blows where it chooses, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it is going. So is it with every one who has been born of the Spirit."
9 Nikodemu dáhùn, ó sì wí fún un pé, “Nǹkan wọ̀nyí yóò ti ṣe lè rí bẹ́ẹ̀?”
"How is all this possible?" asked Nicodemus.
10 Jesu dáhùn, ó sì wí fún un pé, “Ṣé olùkọ́ni ní Israẹli ni ìwọ ń ṣe, o kò sì mọ nǹkan wọ̀nyí?
"Are you," replied Jesus, "'the Teacher of Israel,' and yet do you not understand these things?
11 Lóòótọ́ lóòótọ́ ni mo wí fún ọ, Àwa ń sọ èyí tí àwa mọ̀, a sì ń jẹ́rìí èyí tí àwa ti rí; ẹ̀yin kò sì gba ẹ̀rí wa.
In most solemn truth I tell you that we speak what we know, and give testimony of that of which we were eye-witnesses, and yet you all reject our testimony.
12 Bí mo bá sọ ohun ti ayé yìí fún yín, tí ẹ̀yin kò sì gbàgbọ́, ẹ̀yin ó ti ṣe gbàgbọ́ bí mo bá sọ ohun ti ọ̀run fún yín?
If I have told you earthly things and none of you believe me, how will you believe me if I tell you of things in Heaven?
13 Kò sì ṣí ẹni tí ó gòkè re ọ̀run bí kò ṣe ẹni tí ó ti ọ̀run sọ̀kalẹ̀ wá, Ọmọ Ènìyàn tí ń bẹ ní ọ̀run.
There is no one who has gone up to Heaven, but there is One who has come down from Heaven, namely the Son of Man whose home is in Heaven.
14 Bí Mose sì ti gbé ejò sókè ní aginjù, bẹ́ẹ̀ gẹ́gẹ́ ni a kò le ṣe aláìgbé Ọmọ Ènìyàn sókè pẹ̀lú.
And just as Moses lifted high the serpent in the Desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up,
15 Kí ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó bá gbà á gbọ́, kí ó má bà á ṣègbé, ṣùgbọ́n kí ó le ní ìyè àìnípẹ̀kun.” (aiōnios )
in order that every one who trusts in Him may have the Life of the Ages." (aiōnios )
16 “Nítorí Ọlọ́run fẹ́ aráyé tó bẹ́ẹ̀ gẹ́ẹ́, tí ó fi ọmọ rẹ̀ kan ṣoṣo fún ni, kí ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó bá gbà á gbọ́, má bà á ṣègbé, ṣùgbọ́n kí ó lè ní ìyè àìnípẹ̀kun. (aiōnios )
For so greatly did God love the world that He gave His only Son, that every one who trusts in Him may not perish but may have the Life of Ages. (aiōnios )
17 Nítorí Ọlọ́run kò rán ọmọ rẹ̀ sí ayé láti dá aráyé lẹ́jọ́; ṣùgbọ́n kí a le ti ipasẹ̀ rẹ̀ gba aráyé là.
For God did not send His Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.
18 Ẹni tí ó bá gbà á gbọ́, a kò ní dá a lẹ́jọ́; ṣùgbọ́n a ti dá ẹni tí kò gbà á gbọ́ lẹ́jọ́ ná, nítorí tí kò gba orúkọ ọmọ kan ṣoṣo ti Ọlọ́run gbọ́.
He who trusts in Him does not come up for judgement. He who does not trust has already received sentence, because he has not his trust resting on the name of God's only Son.
19 Èyí ni ìdájọ́ náà pé, ìmọ́lẹ̀ wá sí ayé, àwọn ènìyàn sì fẹ́ òkùnkùn ju ìmọ́lẹ̀ lọ, nítorí tí iṣẹ́ wọn burú.
And this is the test by which men are judged--the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness more than they loved the Light, because their deeds were wicked.
20 Nítorí olúkúlùkù ẹni tí ó bá hùwà búburú ní ìkórìíra ìmọ́lẹ̀, kì í sì í wá sí ìmọ́lẹ̀, kí a má ṣe bá iṣẹ́ rẹ̀ wí.
For every wrongdoer hates the light, and does not come to the light, for fear his actions should be exposed and condemned.
21 Ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ó bá ń sọ òtítọ́ ní í wá sí ìmọ́lẹ̀, kí iṣẹ́ rẹ̀ kí ó lè fi ara hàn pé a ṣe wọ́n nípa ti Ọlọ́run.”
But he who does what is honest and right comes to the light, in order that his actions may be plainly shown to have been done in God.
22 Lẹ́yìn nǹkan wọ̀nyí, Jesu pẹ̀lú àwọn ọmọ-ẹ̀yìn rẹ̀ wá sí ilẹ̀ Judea; ó sì dúró pẹ̀lú wọn níbẹ̀ ó sì ń ṣe ìtẹ̀bọmi fún ni.
After this Jesus and His disciples went into Judaea; and there He made a stay in company with them and baptized.
23 Johanu pẹ̀lú sì ń ṣe ìtẹ̀bọmi ní Aenoni, ní agbègbè Salimu, nítorí tí omi púpọ̀ wà níbẹ̀, wọ́n sì ń wá, a sì ń tẹ̀ ẹ́ wọn bọ omi.
And John too was baptizing at Aenon, near Salim, because there were many pools of water there; and people came and received baptism.
24 (Nítorí tí a kò tí ì sọ Johanu sínú túbú).
(For John was not yet in prison.)
25 Nígbà náà ni iyàn kan wà láàrín àwọn ọmọ-ẹ̀yìn Johanu àti Júù kan nípa ti ìwẹ̀nù.
As the result, a discussion having arisen on the part of John's disciples with a Jew about purification,
26 Wọ́n sì tọ Johanu wá, wọ́n sì wí fún un pé, “Rabbi, ẹni tí ó ti wà pẹ̀lú rẹ lókè odò Jordani, tí ìwọ ti jẹ́rìí rẹ̀, wò ó, òun tẹ àwọn ènìyàn bọ omi, gbogbo ènìyàn sì ń tọ̀ ọ́ wá.”
they came to John and reported to him, "Rabbi, he who was with you on the other side of the Jordan and to whom you bore testimony is now baptizing, and great numbers of people are resorting to him."
27 Johanu dáhùn ó sì wí pé, “Ènìyàn kò le rí nǹkan kan gbà, bí kò ṣe pé a bá ti fi fún ún láti ọ̀run wá.
"A man cannot obtain anything," replied John, "unless it has been granted to him from Heaven.
28 Ẹ̀yin fúnra yín jẹ́rìí mi pé mo wí pé, ‘Èmi kì í ṣe Kristi náà, ṣùgbọ́n pé a rán mi síwájú rẹ̀.’
You yourselves can bear witness to my having said, 'I am not the Christ,' but 'I am His appointed forerunner.'
29 Ẹni tí ó bá ni ìyàwó ni ọkọ ìyàwó; ṣùgbọ́n ọ̀rẹ́ ọkọ ìyàwó tí ó dúró tí ó sì ń gbóhùn rẹ̀, ó ń yọ̀ gidigidi nítorí ohùn ọkọ ìyàwó; nítorí náà ayọ̀ mi yí di kíkún.
He who has the bride is the bridegroom; and the bridegroom's friend who stands by his side and listens to him, rejoices heartily on account of the bridegroom's happiness. Therefore this joy of mine is now complete.
30 Òun kò lè ṣàì máa pọ̀ sí i, ṣùgbọ́n èmi kò lè ṣàìmá rẹlẹ̀.
He must grow greater, but I must grow less.
31 “Ẹni tí ó ti òkè wá ju gbogbo ènìyàn lọ; ẹni tí ó ti ayé wá ti ayé ni, a sì máa sọ ohun ti ayé. Ẹni tí ó ti ọ̀run wá ju gbogbo ènìyàn lọ.
He who comes from above is above all. He whose origin is from the earth is not only himself from the earth, his teaching also is from the earth. He who comes from Heaven is above all.
32 Ohun tí ó ti rí tí ó sì ti gbọ́ èyí náà sì ni òun ń jẹ́rìí rẹ̀; kò sì sí ẹni tí ó gba ẹ̀rí rẹ̀.
What He has seen and heard, to that He bears witness; but His testimony no one receives.
33 Ẹni tí ó gba ẹ̀rí rẹ̀ fi èdìdì dì í pé, olóòtítọ́ ni Ọlọ́run.
Any man who has received His testimony has solemnly declared that God is true.
34 Nítorí ẹni tí Ọlọ́run ti rán ń sọ ọ̀rọ̀ Ọlọ́run: nítorí tí Ọlọ́run fi Ẹ̀mí fún un láìsí gbèdéke.
For He whom God has sent speaks God's words; for God does not give the Spirit with limitations."
35 Baba fẹ́ Ọmọ, ó sì ti fi ohun gbogbo lé e lọ́wọ́.
The Father loves the Son and has entrusted everything to His hands.
36 Ẹni tí ó bá gba Ọmọ gbọ́, ó ní ìyè àìnípẹ̀kun, ẹni tí kò bá sì gba Ọmọ gbọ́, kì yóò rí ìyè, nítorí ìbínú Ọlọ́run ń bẹ lórí rẹ̀.” (aiōnios )
He who believes in the Son has the Life of the Ages; he who disobeys the Son will not enter into Life, but God's anger remains upon him. (aiōnios )
