< John 11 >
1 Ara ọkùnrin kan kò sì dá, Lasaru, ará Betani, tí í ṣe ìlú Maria àti Marta arábìnrin rẹ̀.
Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus from Bethany, of the village of Mary and her sister, Martha.
2 Maria náà ni ẹni tí ó fi òróró ìkunra kun Olúwa, tí ó sì fi irun orí rẹ̀ nù ún, arákùnrin rẹ̀ ni Lasaru í ṣe, ara ẹni tí kò dá.
It was that Mary who had anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother, Lazarus, was sick.
3 Nítorí náà, àwọn arábìnrin rẹ̀ ránṣẹ́ sí i, wí pé, “Olúwa, wò ó, ara ẹni tí ìwọ fẹ́ràn kò dá.”
The sisters therefore sent to him, saying, "Lord, look, the one you love is sick."
4 Nígbà tí Jesu sì gbọ́, ó wí pé, “Àìsàn yìí kì í ṣe sí ikú, ṣùgbọ́n fún ògo Ọlọ́run, kí a lè yin Ọmọ Ọlọ́run lógo nípasẹ̀ rẹ̀.”
But when Jesus heard it, he said, "This sickness is not to death, but for the glory of God, that God's Son may be glorified by it."
5 Jesu sì fẹ́ràn Marta, àti arábìnrin rẹ̀ àti Lasaru.
Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.
6 Nítorí náà, nígbà tí ó ti gbọ́ pé, ara rẹ̀ kò dá, ó gbé ọjọ́ méjì sí i níbìkan náà tí ó gbé wà.
When therefore he heard that he was sick, he stayed two days in the place where he was.
7 Ǹjẹ́ lẹ́yìn èyí ni ó wí fún àwọn ọmọ-ẹ̀yìn rẹ̀ pé, “Ẹ jẹ́ kí a tún padà lọ sí Judea.”
Then after this he said to the disciples, "Let us go into Judea again."
8 Àwọn ọmọ-ẹ̀yìn rẹ̀ sì wí fún un pé, “Rabbi, ní àìpẹ́ yìí ni àwọn Júù ń wá ọ̀nà láti sọ ọ́ ní òkúta; ìwọ sì tún padà lọ síbẹ̀?”
The disciples told him, "Rabbi, the Jewish leaders were just trying to stone you, and are you going there again?"
9 Jesu dáhùn pé, “Wákàtí méjìlá kọ́ ni ó bẹ nínú ọ̀sán kan bí? Bí ẹnìkan bá rìn ní ọ̀sán, kì yóò kọsẹ̀, nítorí tí ó rí ìmọ́lẹ̀ ayé yìí.
Jesus answered, "Are there not twelve hours of daylight? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world.
10 Ṣùgbọ́n bí ẹnìkan bá rìn ní òru, yóò kọsẹ̀, nítorí tí kò sí ìmọ́lẹ̀ nínú rẹ̀.”
But if anyone walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him."
11 Nǹkan wọ̀nyí ni ó sọ, lẹ́yìn èyí nì ó sì wí fún wọn pé, “Lasaru ọ̀rẹ́ wa sùn; ṣùgbọ́n èmi ń lọ kí èmi kí ó lè jí i dìde nínú orun rẹ̀.”
He said these things, and after that, he said to them, "Our friend, Lazarus, has fallen asleep, but I am going so that I may awake him out of sleep."
12 Nítorí náà àwọn ọmọ-ẹ̀yìn rẹ̀ wí fún un pé, “Olúwa, bí ó bá ṣe pé ó sùn, yóò sàn.”
Then the disciples said to him, "Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover."
13 Ṣùgbọ́n Jesu ń sọ ti ikú rẹ̀, ṣùgbọ́n wọ́n rò pé, ó ń sọ ti orun sísùn.
Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that he spoke of taking rest in sleep.
14 Nígbà náà ni Jesu wí fún wọn gbangba pé, “Lasaru ti kú.
So Jesus said to them plainly then, "Lazarus is dead.
15 Èmi sì yọ̀ nítorí yín, tí èmi kò sí níbẹ̀. Kí ẹ le gbàgbọ́; ṣùgbọ́n ẹ jẹ́ kí a lọ sọ́dọ̀ rẹ̀.”
I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, so that you may believe. Nevertheless, let us go to him."
16 Nítorí náà Tomasi, ẹni tí à ń pè ní Didimu, wí fún àwọn ọmọ-ẹ̀yìn ẹgbẹ́ rẹ̀ pé, “Ẹ jẹ́ kí àwa náà lọ, kí a lè bá a kú pẹ̀lú.”
Thomas therefore, who is called Didymus, said to his fellow disciples, "Let us go also, that we may die with him."
17 Nítorí náà nígbà tí Jesu dé, ó rí i pé a ti tẹ́ ẹ sínú ibojì ní ọjọ́ mẹ́rin ná,
So when Jesus came, he found that he had been in the tomb four days already.
18 ǹjẹ́ Betani súnmọ́ Jerusalẹmu tó ibùsọ̀ mẹ́ẹ̀ẹ́dógún.
Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, about two miles away.
19 Ọ̀pọ̀ nínú àwọn Júù sì wá sọ́dọ̀ Marta àti Maria láti tù wọ́n nínú nítorí ti arákùnrin wọn.
Many of the Jewish people had come to Martha and Mary, to console them concerning their brother.
20 Nítorí náà, nígbà tí Marta gbọ́ pé Jesu ń bọ̀ wá, ó jáde lọ pàdé rẹ̀, ṣùgbọ́n Maria jókòó nínú ilé.
Then when Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, but Mary stayed in the house.
21 Nígbà náà, ni Marta wí fún Jesu pé, “Olúwa, ìbá ṣe pé ìwọ ti wà níhìn-ín, arákùnrin mi kì bá kú.
Therefore Martha said to Jesus, "Lord, if you would have been here, my brother would not have died.
22 Ṣùgbọ́n nísinsin yìí náà, mo mọ̀ pé, ohunkóhun tí ìwọ bá béèrè lọ́wọ́ Ọlọ́run, Ọlọ́run yóò fi fún ọ.”
Even now I know that whatever you ask of God, God will give you."
23 Jesu wí fún un pé, “Arákùnrin rẹ yóò jíǹde.”
Jesus said to her, "Your brother will rise again."
24 Marta wí fún un pé, “Mo mọ̀ pé yóò jíǹde ní àjíǹde ìkẹyìn.”
Martha said to him, "I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day."
25 Jesu wí fún un pé, “Èmi ni àjíǹde àti ìyè, ẹni tí ó bá gbà mí gbọ́, bí ó tilẹ̀ kú, yóò yè.
Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies.
26 Ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó ń bẹ láààyè, tí ó sì gbà mí gbọ́, kì yóò kú láéláé ìwọ gbà èyí gbọ́?” (aiōn )
And whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?" (aiōn )
27 Ó wí fún un pé, “Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni, Olúwa, èmi gbàgbọ́ pé, ìwọ ni Kristi náà Ọmọ Ọlọ́run, ẹni tí ń bọ̀ wá sí ayé.”
She said to him, "Yes, Lord. I have come to believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, he who comes into the world."
28 Nígbà tí ó sì ti wí èyí tan, ó lọ, ó sì pe Maria arábìnrin rẹ̀ sẹ́yìn wí pé, “Olùkọ́ dé, ó sì ń pè ọ́.”
And when she had said this, she went away, and called Mary, her sister, secretly, saying, "The Teacher is here, and is calling you."
29 Nígbà tí ó gbọ́, ó dìde lọ́gán, ó sì wá sọ́dọ̀ rẹ̀.
When she heard this, she arose quickly, and went to him.
30 Jesu kò tí ì wọ ìlú, ṣùgbọ́n ó wà ní ibi kan náà tí Marta ti pàdé rẹ̀.
Now Jesus had not yet come into the village, but was still in the place where Martha met him.
31 Nígbà tí àwọn Júù tí ó wà lọ́dọ̀ rẹ̀ nínú ilé, tí wọ́n ń tù ú nínú rí Maria tí ó dìde kánkán, tí ó sì jáde, wọ́n tẹ̀lé, wọ́n ṣe bí ó ń lọ sí ibojì láti sọkún níbẹ̀.
Then the Judeans who were with her in the house, and were consoling her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up quickly and went out, followed her, supposing that she was going to the tomb to weep there.
32 Nígbà tí Maria sì dé ibi tí Jesu wà, tí ó sì rí i, ó wólẹ̀ lẹ́bàá ẹsẹ̀ rẹ̀, ó wí fún un pé, “Olúwa, ìbá ṣe pé ìwọ ti wà níhìn-ín, arákùnrin mi kì bá kú.”
Therefore when Mary came to where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying to him, "Lord, if you would have been here, my brother would not have died."
33 Nígbà tí Jesu rí i, tí ó ń sọkún, àti àwọn Júù tí ó bá a wá ń sọkún pẹ̀lú rẹ̀, ó kérora nínú ẹ̀mí, inú rẹ̀ sì bàjẹ́.
When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Judeans weeping who came with her, he was deeply moved in spirit and was troubled,
34 Ó sì wí pé, “Níbo ni ẹ̀yin gbé tẹ́ ẹ sí?” Wọ́n sì wí fún un pé, “Olúwa, wá wò ó.”
and said, "Where have you put him?" They told him, "Lord, come and see."
36 Nítorí náà àwọn Júù wí pé, “Sá wò ó bí ó ti fẹ́ràn rẹ̀ tó!”
The Judeans therefore said, "See how he loved him."
37 Àwọn kan nínú wọn sì wí pé, “Ọkùnrin yìí, ẹni tí ó la ojú afọ́jú, kò lè ṣe é kí ọkùnrin yìí má kú bí?”
But some of them said, "Could not this man, who opened the eyes of him who was blind, have also kept this man from dying?"
38 Nígbà náà ni Jesu tún kérora nínú ara rẹ̀, ó wá sí ibojì, ó sì jẹ́ ihò, a sì gbé òkúta lé ẹnu rẹ̀.
So Jesus, deeply moved again, came to the tomb. Now it was a cave, and a stone lay against it.
39 Jesu wí pé, “Ẹ gbé òkúta náà kúrò!” Marta, arábìnrin ẹni tí ó kú náà wí fún un pé, “Olúwa, ó ti ń rùn nísinsin yìí, nítorí pé ó di ọjọ́ kẹrin tí ó tí kú.”
Jesus said, "Take away the stone." Martha, the sister of the dead man, said to him, "Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days."
40 Jesu wí fún un pé, “Èmi kò ti wí fún ọ pé, bí ìwọ bá gbàgbọ́, ìwọ yóò rí ògo Ọlọ́run?”
Jesus said to her, "Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see God's glory?"
41 Nígbà náà ni wọ́n gbé òkúta náà kúrò (níbi tí a tẹ́ ẹ sí). Jesu sì gbé ojú rẹ̀ sókè, ó sì wí pé, “Baba, mo dúpẹ́ lọ́wọ́ rẹ nítorí tí ìwọ gbọ́ tèmi.
So they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, "Father, I thank you that you listened to me.
42 Èmi sì ti mọ̀ pé, ìwọ a máa gbọ́ ti èmi nígbà gbogbo, ṣùgbọ́n nítorí ìjọ ènìyàn tí ó dúró yìí ni mo ṣe wí i, kí wọn ba à lè gbàgbọ́ pé ìwọ ni ó rán mi.”
I know that you always listen to me, but because of the crowd that stands around I said this, that they may believe that you sent me."
43 Nígbà tí ó sì wí bẹ́ẹ̀ tan, ó kígbe lóhùn rara pé, “Lasaru, jáde wá.”
When he had said this, he shouted with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out."
44 Ẹni tí ó kú náà sì jáde wá, tí a fi aṣọ òkú dì tọwọ́ tẹsẹ̀ a sì fi gèlè dì í lójú. Jesu wí fún wọn pé, “Ẹ tú u, ẹ sì jẹ́ kí ó máa lọ!”
The man who had died came out, bound hand and foot with wrappings, and his face was wrapped around with a cloth. Jesus said to them, "Free him, and let him go."
45 Nítorí náà ni ọ̀pọ̀ àwọn Júù tí ó wá sọ́dọ̀ Maria, tí wọ́n rí ohun tí Jesu ṣe, ṣe gbà á gbọ́.
Therefore many of the Judeans, who came to Mary and had seen the things which he did, believed in him.
46 Ṣùgbọ́n àwọn ẹlòmíràn nínú wọn tọ àwọn Farisi lọ, wọ́n sì sọ fún wọn ohun tí Jesu ṣe.
But some of them went away to the Pharisees, and told them the things which Jesus had done.
47 Nígbà náà ni àwọn olórí àlùfáà àti àwọn Farisi pe ìgbìmọ̀ jọ. Wọ́n sì wí pé, “Kín ni yóò jẹ àṣeyọrí wa? Nítorí ọkùnrin yìí ń ṣe ọ̀pọ̀lọpọ̀ iṣẹ́ àmì.
The chief priests therefore and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, "What are we doing? For this man does many signs.
48 Bí àwa bá fi í sílẹ̀ bẹ́ẹ̀, gbogbo ènìyàn ni yóò gbà á gbọ́, àwọn ará Romu yóò sì wá gba ilẹ̀ àti orílẹ̀-èdè wa pẹ̀lú.”
If we leave him alone like this, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation."
49 Ṣùgbọ́n Kaiafa, ọ̀kan nínú wọn, ẹni tí í ṣe olórí àlùfáà ní ọdún náà, ó wí fún wọn pé, “Ẹ̀yin kò mọ ohunkóhun rárá!
But a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said to them, "You know nothing at all,
50 Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni ẹ kò sì ronú pé, ó ṣàǹfààní fún wa, kí ènìyàn kan kú fún àwọn ènìyàn kí gbogbo orílẹ̀-èdè má ba à ṣègbé.”
nor do you consider that it is advantageous for you that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation not perish."
51 Kì í ṣe fún ara rẹ̀ ni ó sọ èyí ṣùgbọ́n bí ó ti jẹ́ olórí àlùfáà ní ọdún náà, ó sọtẹ́lẹ̀ pé, Jesu yóò kú fún orílẹ̀-èdè náà,
Now he did not say this of himself, but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation,
52 kì sì í ṣe kìkì fún orílẹ̀-èdè náà nìkan, ṣùgbọ́n fún àwọn ọmọ Ọlọ́run tí ó fọ́nká kiri, kí ó le kó wọn papọ̀, kí ó sì sọ wọ́n di ọ̀kan.
and not for the nation only, but that he might also gather together into one the children of God who are scattered abroad.
53 Nítorí náà, láti ọjọ́ náà lọ ni wọ́n ti jọ gbìmọ̀ pọ̀ láti pa á.
So from that day on they plotted to kill him.
54 Nítorí náà Jesu kò rìn ní gbangba láàrín àwọn Júù mọ́; ṣùgbọ́n ó ti ibẹ̀ lọ sí ìgbèríko kan tí ó súnmọ́ aginjù, sí ìlú ńlá kan tí a ń pè ní Efraimu, níbẹ̀ ni ó sì wà pẹ̀lú àwọn ọmọ-ẹ̀yìn rẹ̀.
Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Judeans, but departed from there into the country near the wilderness, to a city called Ephraim; and stayed there with his disciples.
55 Àjọ ìrékọjá àwọn Júù sì súnmọ́ etílé, ọ̀pọ̀lọpọ̀ láti ìgbèríko sì gòkè lọ sí Jerusalẹmu ṣáájú ìrékọjá, láti ya ara wọn sí mímọ́.
Now the Jewish Passover was near, and many went up from the country to Jerusalem before the Passover, to purify themselves.
56 Nígbà náà ni wọ́n ń wá Jesu, wọ́n sì ń bá ara wọn sọ̀, bí wọ́n ti dúró ní tẹmpili, wí pé, “Kín ni ẹyin ti rò ó sí pé kì yóò wá sí àjọ?”
Then they sought for Jesus and spoke one with another, as they stood in the temple, "What do you think—that he is not coming to the feast at all?"
57 Ǹjẹ́ àwọn olórí àlùfáà àti àwọn Farisi ti pàṣẹ pé bí ẹnìkan bá mọ ibi tí ó gbé wà, kí ó fi í hàn, kí wọn ba à lè mú un.
Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had given orders that if anyone knew where he was, he should report it, that they might arrest him.
