< Job 4 >
1 Ìgbà náà ni Elifasi, ará Temani dáhùn wí pé,
Then Eliphaz the Temanite replied:
2 “Bí àwa bá fi ẹnu lé e, láti bá ọ sọ̀rọ̀, ìwọ o ha banújẹ́? Ṣùgbọ́n ta ni ó lè pa ọ̀rọ̀ mọ́ ẹnu láìsọ?
“If one ventures a word with you, will you be wearied? Yet who can keep from speaking?
3 Kíyèsi i, ìwọ sá ti kọ́ ọ̀pọ̀ ènìyàn, ìwọ ṣá ti mú ọwọ́ aláìlera le.
Surely you have instructed many, and have strengthened their feeble hands.
4 Ọ̀rọ̀ rẹ ti gbé àwọn tí ń ṣubú lọ dúró, ìwọ sì ti mú eékún àwọn tí ń wárìrì lera.
Your words have steadied those who stumbled; you have braced the knees that were buckling.
5 Ṣùgbọ́n nísinsin yìí ó dé bá ọ, ó sì rẹ̀ ọ́, ó kọlù ọ́; ara rẹ kò lélẹ̀.
But now trouble has come upon you, and you are weary. It strikes you, and you are dismayed.
6 Ìbẹ̀rù Ọlọ́run rẹ kò ha jẹ́ ìgbẹ́kẹ̀lé rẹ àti ìdúró ọ̀nà rẹ kò ha sì jẹ́ ìrètí rẹ?
Is your reverence not your confidence, and the uprightness of your ways your hope?
7 “Èmi bẹ̀ ọ́ rántí, ta ni ó ṣègbé rí láìṣẹ̀? Tàbí níbo ni a gbé gé olódodo kúrò rí?
Consider now, I plead: Who, being innocent, has ever perished? Or where have the upright been destroyed?
8 Àní bí èmi ti rí i pé, àwọn tí ń ṣe ìtulẹ̀ ẹ̀ṣẹ̀, tí wọ́n sì fún irúgbìn ìwà búburú, wọn a sì ká èso rẹ̀ náà.
As I have observed, those who plow iniquity and those who sow trouble reap the same.
9 Nípa ìfẹ́ sí Ọlọ́run wọn a ṣègbé, nípa èémí ìbínú rẹ̀ wọn a parun.
By the breath of God they perish, and by the blast of His anger they are consumed.
10 Bíbú ramúramù kìnnìún àti ohùn òǹrorò kìnnìún àti eyín àwọn ẹgbọrọ kìnnìún ní a ká.
The lion may roar, and the fierce lion may growl, yet the teeth of the young lions are broken.
11 Kìnnìún kígbe, nítorí àìrí ohun ọdẹ, àwọn ẹgbọrọ kìnnìún sísanra ni a túká kiri.
The old lion perishes for lack of prey, and the cubs of the lioness are scattered.
12 “Ǹjẹ́ nísinsin yìí a fi ohun àṣírí kan hàn fún mi, etí mi sì gbà díẹ̀ nínú rẹ̀.
Now a word came to me secretly; my ears caught a whisper of it.
13 Ní ìrò inú lójú ìran òru, nígbà tí oorun èjìká kùn ènìyàn.
In disquieting visions in the night, when deep sleep falls on men,
14 Ẹ̀rù bà mí àti ìwárìrì tí ó mú gbogbo egungun mi jí pépé.
fear and trembling came over me and made all my bones shudder.
15 Nígbà náà ni ẹ̀mí kan kọjá lọ ní iwájú mi, irun ara mi dìde dúró ṣánṣán.
Then a spirit glided past my face, and the hair on my body bristled.
16 Ó dúró jẹ́ẹ́, ṣùgbọ́n èmi kò le wo àpẹẹrẹ ìrí rẹ̀, àwòrán kan hàn níwájú mi, ìdákẹ́rọ́rọ́ wà, mo sì gbóhùn kan wí pé,
It stood still, but I could not discern its appearance; a form loomed before my eyes, and I heard a whispering voice:
17 ‘Ẹni kíkú le jẹ́ olódodo ju Ọlọ́run, ènìyàn ha le mọ́ ju ẹlẹ́dàá rẹ̀ bí?
‘Can a mortal be more righteous than God, or a man more pure than his Maker?
18 Kíyèsi i, òun kò gbẹ́kẹ̀lé àwọn ìránṣẹ́ rẹ̀, nínú àwọn angẹli rẹ̀ ní ó sì rí ẹ̀ṣẹ̀.
If God puts no trust in His servants, and He charges His angels with error,
19 Mélòó mélòó àwọn tí ń gbé inú ilé amọ̀, ẹni tí ìpìlẹ̀ wọ́n jásí erùpẹ̀ tí yóò di rírun kòkòrò.
how much more those who dwell in houses of clay, whose foundations are in the dust, who can be crushed like a moth!
20 A pa wọ́n run láàrín òwúrọ̀ àti àṣálẹ́ wọ́n sì parun títí láé, láìrí ẹni kà á sí.
They are smashed to pieces from dawn to dusk; unnoticed, they perish forever.
21 A kò ha ké okùn iye wọ́n kúrò bí? Wọ́n kú, àní láìlọ́gbọ́n?’
Are not their tent cords pulled up, so that they die without wisdom?’
