< Job 21 >
1 Jobu wá dáhùn, ó sì wí pé,
Then Job answered:
2 “Ẹ tẹ́tí sílẹ̀ dáradára sì àwọn ọ̀rọ̀ mi, kí èyí kí ó jásí ìtùnú fún mi.
“Listen carefully to my words; let this be your consolation to me.
3 Ẹ jọ̀wọ́ mi ki èmi sọ̀rọ̀; lẹ́yìn ìgbà ìwọ le máa fi mi ṣẹ̀sín ń ṣo.
Bear with me while I speak; then, after I have spoken, you may go on mocking.
4 “Àròyé mi ha ṣe sí ènìyàn bí? Èétise tí ọkàn mi kì yóò fi ṣe àìbalẹ̀?
Is my complaint against a man? Then why should I not be impatient?
5 Ẹ wò mí fín, kí ẹnu kí ó sì yà yín, kí ẹ sì fi ọwọ́ lé ẹnu yín.
Look at me and be appalled; put your hand over your mouth.
6 Àní nígbà tí mo rántí, ẹ̀rù bà mí, ìwárìrì sì mú mi lára.
When I remember, terror takes hold, and my body trembles in horror.
7 Nítorí kí ní ènìyàn búburú fi wà ní ayé, tí wọ́n gbó, àní tí wọ́n di alágbára ní ipa?
Why do the wicked live on, growing old and increasing in power?
8 Irú-ọmọ wọn fi ìdí kalẹ̀ ní ojú wọn pẹ̀lú wọn, àti ọmọ ọmọ wọn ní ojú wọn.
Their descendants are established around them, and their offspring before their eyes.
9 Ilé wọn wà láìní ewu àti ẹ̀rù, bẹ́ẹ̀ ni ọ̀pá ìbínú Ọlọ́run kò sí lára wọn.
Their homes are safe from fear; no rod of punishment from God is upon them.
10 Akọ màlúù wọn a máa gùn, kì í sì tàsé; abo màlúù wọn a máa bí, kì í sì í ṣẹ́yun.
Their bulls breed without fail; their cows bear calves and do not miscarry.
11 Wọn a máa rán àwọn ọmọ wọn wẹ́wẹ́ jáde bí agbo ẹran, àwọn ọmọ wọn a sì máa jo kiri.
They send forth their little ones like a flock; their children skip about,
12 Wọ́n mú ohun ọ̀nà orin, ìlù àti haapu; wọ́n sì ń yọ̀ sí ohùn fèrè.
singing to the tambourine and lyre and making merry at the sound of the flute.
13 Wọ́n n lo ọjọ́ wọn nínú ọrọ̀; wọn sì lọ sí ipò òkú ní àlàáfíà. (Sheol )
They spend their days in prosperity and go down to Sheol in peace. (Sheol )
14 Nítorí náà ni wọ́n ṣe wí fún Ọlọ́run pé, ‘Lọ kúrò lọ́dọ̀ wa!’ Nítorí pé wọn kò fẹ́ ìmọ̀ ipa ọ̀nà rẹ.
Yet they say to God: ‘Leave us alone! For we have no desire to know Your ways.
15 Kí ni Olódùmarè tí àwa ó fi máa sìn in? Èrè kí ni a ó sì jẹ bí àwa ba gbàdúrà sí i?
Who is the Almighty, that we should serve Him, and what would we gain if we pray to Him?’
16 Kíyèsi i, àlàáfíà wọn kò sí nípa ọwọ́ wọn; ìmọ̀ ènìyàn búburú jìnnà sí mi réré.
Still, their prosperity is not in their own hands, so I stay far from the counsel of the wicked.
17 “Ìgbà mélòó mélòó ní a ń pa fìtílà ènìyàn búburú kú? Ìgbà mélòó mélòó ní ìparun wọn dé bá wọn, tí Ọlọ́run sì í máa pín ìbìnújẹ́ nínú ìbínú rẹ̀?
How often is the lamp of the wicked put out? Does disaster come upon them? Does God, in His anger, apportion destruction?
18 Wọ́n dàbí àgékù koríko níwájú afẹ́fẹ́, àti bí ìyàngbò, tí ẹ̀fúùfù ńlá fẹ́ lọ.
Are they like straw before the wind, like chaff swept away by a storm?
19 Ẹ̀yin wí pé, ‘Ọlọ́run to ìyà ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ rẹ̀ jọ fún àwọn ọmọ rẹ̀.’ Jẹ́ kí ó san án fún un, yóò sì mọ̀ ọ́n.
It is said that God lays up one’s punishment for his children. Let God repay the man himself, so he will know it.
20 Ojú rẹ̀ yóò rí ìparun ara rẹ̀, yóò sì máa mu nínú ríru ìbínú Olódùmarè.
Let his eyes see his own destruction; let him drink for himself the wrath of the Almighty.
21 Nítorí pé àlàáfíà kí ni ó ní nínú ilé rẹ̀ lẹ́yìn rẹ̀, nígbà tí a bá ké iye oṣù rẹ̀ kúrò ní agbede-méjì?
For what does he care about his household after him, when the number of his months has run out?
22 “Ǹjẹ́ ẹnikẹ́ni le kọ Ọlọ́run ní ìmọ̀? Òun ní í sá à ń ṣe ìdájọ́ ẹni ibi gíga.
Can anyone teach knowledge to God, since He judges those on high?
23 Ẹnìkan a kú nínú pípé agbára rẹ̀, ó wà nínú ìrora àti ìdákẹ́ pátápátá.
One man dies full of vigor, completely secure and at ease.
24 Ọpọ́n rẹ̀ kún fún omi ọmú, egungun rẹ̀ sì tutù fún ọ̀rá.
His body is well nourished, and his bones are rich with marrow.
25 Ẹlòmíràn a sì kú nínú kíkorò ọkàn rẹ̀, tí kò sì fi inú dídùn jẹun.
Yet another man dies in the bitterness of his soul, having never tasted prosperity.
26 Wọ́n o dùbúlẹ̀ bákan náà nínú erùpẹ̀, kòkòrò yóò sì ṣùbò wọ́n.
But together they lie down in the dust, and worms cover them both.
27 “Kíyèsi i, èmi mọ̀ èrò inú yín àti àrékérekè ọkàn yín láti ṣe ìlòdì sí mi.
Behold, I know your thoughts full well, the schemes by which you would wrong me.
28 Nítorí tí ẹ̀yin wí pé, ‘Níbo ní ilé ọmọ-aládé, àti níbo ní àgọ́ àwọn ènìyàn búburú nì gbé wà?’
For you say, ‘Where now is the nobleman’s house, and where are the tents in which the wicked dwell?’
29 Ẹ̀yin kò béèrè lọ́wọ́ àwọn tí ń kọjá lọ ní ọ̀nà? Ẹ̀yin kò mọ̀ àmì wọn,
Have you never asked those who travel the roads? Do you not accept their reports?
30 pé ènìyàn búburú ní a fi pamọ́ fún ọjọ́ ìparun. A ó sì mú wọn jáde ní ọjọ́ ríru ìbínú.
Indeed, the evil man is spared from the day of calamity, delivered from the day of wrath.
31 Ta ni yóò tako ipa ọ̀nà rẹ̀ lójúkojú, ta ni yóò sì san án padà fún un ní èyí tí ó ti ṣe?
Who denounces his behavior to his face? Who repays him for what he has done?
32 Síbẹ̀ a ó sì sin ín ní ọ̀nà ipò òkú, a ó sì máa ṣọ́ ibojì òkú.
He is carried to the grave, and watch is kept over his tomb.
33 Ògúlùtu àfonífojì yóò dùn mọ́ ọn. Gbogbo ènìyàn yóò sì máa tọ̀ ọ́ lẹ́yìn, bí ènìyàn àìníye ti lọ síwájú rẹ̀.
The clods of the valley are sweet to him; everyone follows behind him, and those before him are without number.
34 “Èéha ti ṣe tí ẹ̀yin fi ń tù mí nínú lásán, bí ò ṣe pé ní ìdáhùn yín, àrékérekè wa níbẹ̀!”
So how can you comfort me with empty words? For your answers remain full of falsehood.”
