< Jeremiah 1 >

1 Èyí ni ọ̀rọ̀ Jeremiah ọmọ Hilkiah ọ̀kan nínú àwọn àlùfáà ní Anatoti ní agbègbè ilẹ̀ Benjamini.
These are the words of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah, one of the priests living in Anathoth in the territory of Benjamin.
2 Ọ̀rọ̀ Olúwa sì tọ̀ ọ́ wá ní ọdún kẹtàlá ní àkókò ìjọba Josiah ọmọ Amoni ọba Juda,
The Lord's message came to Jeremiah beginning in the thirteenth year of the reign of Josiah, son of Amon, king of Judah,
3 àti títí dé àsìkò Jehoiakimu ọmọ Josiah ọba Juda, títí dé oṣù karùn-ún ọdún kọkànlá Sedekiah ọmọ Josiah ọba Juda, nígbà tí àwọn ará Jerusalẹmu lọ sí ìgbèkùn.
and on through the time of Jehoiakim, son of Josiah, king of Judah, up to the fifth month of the eleventh year of Zedekiah, son of Josiah, king of Judah, which was when the people of Jerusalem went into exile.
4 Ọ̀rọ̀ Olúwa sì tọ̀ mí wá, wí pé,
The Lord came and told me,
5 “Kí ó tó di pé mo dá ọ láti inú ni mo ti mọ̀ ọ́n, kí ó sì tó di pé a bí ọ ni mo ti yà ọ́ sọ́tọ̀. Mo yàn ọ́ gẹ́gẹ́ bí wòlíì fún àwọn orílẹ̀-èdè.”
“I knew exactly who you would be before I created you in your mother's womb; I chose you before you were born to be a prophet to the nations.”
6 Mo sọ pé, “Háà! Olúwa Olódùmarè, ọmọdé ni mí, èmi kò mọ bí a ṣe é sọ̀rọ̀.”
“Oh no, Lord God!” I replied. “I really don't know how to speak in public because I'm still too young!”
7 Olúwa sọ fún mi pé, “Má ṣe sọ pé, ‘Ọmọdé lásán ni mí.’ O gbọdọ̀ ní láti lọ sí ọ̀dọ̀ gbogbo àwọn tí mo rán ọ sí, kí o sì sọ ohun tí mo pàṣẹ fún ọ.”
“Don't say you're too young,” the Lord told me. “Go to everyone I send you to. Tell them everything I order you to say.
8 Olúwa sì wí pé má ṣe bẹ̀rù wọn, nítorí tí èmi wà pẹ̀lú rẹ èmi ó sì gbà ọ́.
Don't be afraid of them because I'll go with you and I'll look after you. This is the Lord's promise.”
9 Olúwa sì na ọwọ́ rẹ̀, ó sì fi kàn mí lẹ́nu, ó sì wí fún mi pé nísinsin yìí, mo ti fi ọ̀rọ̀ mi sí inú ẹnu rẹ.
The Lord stretched out his hand, touched my mouth, and told me: “Look, I've put my words in your mouth.
10 Wò ó, mo yàn ọ́ lórí àwọn orílẹ̀-èdè àti ìjọba gbogbo láti fàtu, láti wó lulẹ̀, láti bàjẹ́, láti jágbà, láti máa kọ́, àti láti máa gbìn.
Today I've placed you over nations and kingdoms to pull up and tear down, to destroy and demolish, to build and plant.”
11 Ọ̀rọ̀ Olúwa sì tọ mí wá wí pé: “Kí ni o rí Jeremiah?” Mo sì dáhùn wí pé, “Mo rí ẹ̀ka igi almondi.”
The Lord's message came to me, asking, “Jeremiah, what can you see?” “I see a twig from an almond tree,” I answered.
12 Olúwa sì wí fún mi pé, “Ó ti rí i bí ó ṣe yẹ, nítorí pé mo ti ń ṣọ láti rí i pé ọ̀rọ̀ mi wá sí ìmúṣẹ.”
“That's right, because I am watching to make sure what I say happens,” the Lord said.
13 Ọ̀rọ̀ Olúwa sì tún tọ̀ mi wá ní ẹ̀ẹ̀kejì pé, “Kí ni o rí?” Mo sì dáhùn pé mo rí ìkòkò gbígbóná, tí ó ń ru láti apá àríwá.
The Lord's message came to me again, asking, “What can you see?” “I see a pot that's boiling,” I answered, “and it's tipping in this direction from the north.”
14 Olúwa sì wí fún mi pé, “Láti apá àríwá ni a ó ti mu ìdààmú wá sórí gbogbo àwọn tí ó ń gbé ní ilẹ̀ náà.
Then the Lord told me, “Trouble brewing from the north will sweep out over everyone living in the country.
15 Mo sì ti ṣetán láti pe gbogbo àwọn ènìyàn orílẹ̀-èdè àríwá níjà,” ni Olúwa wí. “Àwọn ọba wọn yóò wá gbé ìtẹ́ wọn ró ní ojú ọ̀nà àbáwọlé Jerusalẹmu. Wọn ó sì dìde sí gbogbo àyíká wọn àti sí gbogbo àwọn ìlú Juda.
Watch out! I'm going to summon all the nations and kings of the north,” declares the Lord. “Each of these kings will come and set up their thrones right at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and attack all its fortifications and all the towns in Judah.
16 Èmi yóò sì kéde ìdájọ́ mi lórí àwọn ènìyàn mi nítorí ìwà búburú wọn nípa kíkọ̀ mí sílẹ̀, nípa rírúbọ sí ọlọ́run mìíràn àti sínsin àwọn ohun tí wọ́n fi ọwọ́ wọn ṣe.
I will carry out my sentence against the inhabitants for all their wickedness, because they abandoned me to burn incense to pagan gods, to worship idols they themselves made.
17 “Wà ní ìmúrasílẹ̀! Dìde dúró kí o sì sọ fún wọn ohunkóhun tí mo bá pàṣẹ fún wọn. Má ṣe jẹ́ kí wọ́n dẹ́rùbà ọ́, èmi yóò sì sọ ọ́ di ẹ̀rù níwájú wọn.
You need to get yourself ready. You are going to stand before the people and tell them everything that I order you to say. Don't be scared by them, or I will scare you in front of them.
18 Ní òní èmi ti sọ ọ́ di ìlú alágbára, òpó irin àti odi idẹ sí àwọn ọba Juda, àwọn ìjòyè rẹ̀, sí àwọn àlùfáà àti àwọn ènìyàn ilẹ̀ náà.
Look! Today I have made you like a fortified city, a pillar of iron, a wall of bronze to stand against the whole country—against the kings of Judah, its officials, its priests, and the people of the country.
19 Wọn yóò dojú ìjà kọ ọ́, wọn kì yóò borí rẹ, nítorí wí pé èmi wà pẹ̀lú rẹ, èmi yóò sì gbà ọ́,” ni Olúwa wí.
They will fight against you but they won't defeat you, because I'll be there to rescue you,” declares the Lord.
