< Jeremiah 9 >
1 Háà! Orí ìbá jẹ́ orísun omi kí ojú mi sì jẹ́ orísun omijé! Èmi yóò sì sọkún tọ̀sán tòru nítorí ìparun àwọn ènìyàn mi.
How I wish my head was a spring of water, and my eyes a fountain of tears! Then I would weep day and night over all my people who have been killed.
2 Háà, èmi ìbá ní ni aginjù ilé àgbàwọ̀ fún àwọn arìnrìn-àjò, kí n ba à lè fi àwọn ènìyàn mi sílẹ̀ kí n sì lọ kúrò lọ́dọ̀ wọn: nítorí gbogbo wọn jẹ́ panṣágà àjọ aláìṣòótọ́ ènìyàn.
I wish I had a temporary shelter in the desert—I would give up on my people and leave them, because they're all adulterers, a bunch of traitors!
3 Wọ́n ti pèsè ahọ́n wọn sílẹ̀ bí ọfà láti fi pa irọ́; kì í ṣe nípa òtítọ́ ni wọ́n fi borí ní ilẹ̀ náà. Wọ́n ń lọ láti inú ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ kan sí òmíràn; wọn kò sì náání mi, ní Olúwa wí.
Their words are like arrows shot from a bow. Lies win out over the truth throughout the country. They go from one evil thing to the next, forgetting all about me, declares the Lord.
4 “Ṣọ́ra fún àwọn ọ̀rẹ́ rẹ; má ṣe gbẹ́kẹ̀lé àwọn arákùnrin rẹ. Nítorí pé oníkálùkù arákùnrin jẹ́ atannijẹ, oníkálùkù ọ̀rẹ́ sì jẹ́ abanijẹ́.
Everyone, watch out for your friends! Don't even trust your brother! Every brother is deceitful, and every friend slanders other people.
5 Ọ̀rẹ́ ń dalẹ̀ ọ̀rẹ́. Kò sì ṣí ẹni tó sọ òtítọ́, wọ́n ti kọ́ ahọ́n wọn láti máa purọ́. Wọ́n sọ ara wọn di onírẹ̀wẹ̀sì pẹ̀lú ẹ̀ṣẹ̀
Everyone betrays their friends; no one tells the truth. They've made themselves into expert liars; they tire themselves out doing wrong.
6 Ó ń gbé ní àárín ẹ̀tàn; wọ́n kọ̀ láti mọ̀ mí nínú ẹ̀tàn wọn,” ni Olúwa wí.
Everyone exploits each other, and in all their lies they don't want to know me, declares the Lord.
7 Nítorí náà, èyí ni ohun tí Olúwa Ọlọ́run Àwọn ọmọ-ogun wí: “Wò ó, èmi dán wọn wo; nítorí pé kí ni èmi tún le è ṣe? Nítorí ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ àwọn ènìyàn mi?
So this is what the Lord Almighty says: Look, I'm going to test them and purify them like metal in a furnace. What else can I do because of what my people have done?
8 Ahọ́n wọn dàbí ọfà olóró; ó ń sọ ẹ̀tàn. Oníkálùkù sì ń fi ẹnu rẹ̀ sọ̀rọ̀ àlàáfíà sí aládùúgbò rẹ̀, ní inú ọkàn rẹ̀, ó dẹ tàkúté sílẹ̀.
Their words are arrows that kill; they always tell lies. They're nice to their friends on the outside while plotting against them inside.
9 Èmi kì yóò ha fi ìyà jẹ wọ́n nítorí èyí?” ni Olúwa wí. “Èmi kì yóò ha gbẹ̀san ara mi lórí irú orílẹ̀-èdè yìí bí?”
Shouldn't I punish them for all this? declares the Lord. Shouldn't I retaliate for what this nation has done?
10 Èmi yóò sì sọkún, pohùnréré ẹkún fún àwọn òkè àti ẹkún ìrora lórí pápá oko aginjù wọ̀n-ọn-nì. Nítorí wọ́n di ahoro, wọn kò sì kọjá ní ibẹ̀. A kò sì gbọ́ igbe ẹran ọ̀sìn. Àwọn ẹyẹ ojú ọ̀run sì ti sálọ, bẹ́ẹ̀ náà ni àwọn ẹranko sì ti lọ.
I will weep and wail for the mountains, I will sing a funeral song over the pastures in the countryside, because they have been so badly burned that no one can pass through, and there are no cattle to make any noise. The birds have flown and the wild animals have run away.
11 “Èmi yóò sì sọ Jerusalẹmu di òkìtì àlàpà àti ihò àwọn ìkookò. Èmi ó sì sọ ìlú Juda di ahoro tí ẹnikẹ́ni kò sì ní le è gbé.”
I'm going to make Jerusalem into a heap of rubble, a place where jackals live. I will destroy the towns of Judah, leaving them empty.
12 Ta ni ẹni náà tí ó ní ọgbọ́n láti mòye nǹkan wọ̀nyí? Ta ni Olúwa ti sọ èyí fún, tí ó sì lè ṣàlàyé rẹ̀? Èéṣe tí ilẹ̀ náà fi ṣègbé bí aginjù, tí ẹnìkankan kò sì le là á kọjá?
Who is wise enough to understand this? Has the Lord told anyone so they can explain what's happened? Why has the land been destroyed and burned so it's like a desert, so no one can pass through it?
13 Olúwa sì wí pé, nítorí pé wọ́n ti kọ òfin mi sílẹ̀, èyí tí mo gbé kalẹ̀ níwájú wọn, wọn ṣe àìgbọ́ràn sí wọn, wọn kò sì rìn nínú òfin mi.
The Lord replied, It's because they have given up keeping my laws that I placed before them. They haven't followed them; they haven't done what I told them.
14 Dípò èyí, wọ́n ti tẹ̀lé agídí ọkàn wọn, wọ́n ti tẹ̀lé Baali gẹ́gẹ́ bí àwọn baba wọn ṣe kọ́ wọn.
On the contrary, they have followed their own stubborn way of thinking, and went to worship the Baals, just as their forefathers taught them.
15 Nítorí náà, èyí ni ohun tí Olúwa àwọn ọmọ-ogun, Ọlọ́run Israẹli wí, “Wò ó, Èmi yóò mú kí àwọn ènìyàn wọ̀nyí jẹ oúnjẹ kíkorò àti láti mu omi májèlé.
So this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Watch out! I will give these people wormwood to eat and poisoned water to drink.
16 Èmi yóò sì tú wọn ká láàrín àwọn orílẹ̀-èdè, nínú èyí tí àwọn tàbí àwọn baba wọn kò mọ̀. Èmi yóò sì lépa wọn pẹ̀lú idà títí èmi yóò fi pa wọ́n run.”
I'm about to scatter them among nations unfamiliar to them and their forefathers, and I will send enemies with swords to chase after them until I have wiped them out.
17 Èyí sì ni ohun tí Olúwa Ọlọ́run àwọn ọmọ-ogun wí: “Sá à wò ó nísinsin yìí! Ké sí obìnrin ti ń ṣọ̀fọ̀ nì kí ó wá; sì ránṣẹ́ pe àwọn tí ó mòye nínú wọn.
This is what the Lord Almighty says: Be aware of what's happening! Call for the professional women mourners, ask for the best of them.
18 Jẹ́ kí wọn wá kíákíá, kí wọn wá pohùnréré ẹkún lé wa lórí títí ojú wa yóò fi sàn fún omijé tí omi yóò sì máa sàn àwọn ìpéǹpéjú wa.
Have them come as quickly as possible, and sing a funeral song about us, so we can cry our eyes out, so our tears will flow like streams.
19 A gbọ́ igbe ìpohùnréré ẹkún ní Sioni: ‘Àwa ti ṣègbé tó! A gbọdọ̀ fi ilẹ̀ wa sílẹ̀, nítorí pé àwọn ilé wa ti parun.’”
The sound of weeping comes from Zion, “We're completely devastated! We're totally ashamed, because we've had to abandon our country, because our houses have been demolished.”
20 Nísinsin yìí, ẹ̀yin obìnrin ẹ gbọ́ ọ̀rọ̀ Olúwa; ṣí etí yín sí ọ̀rọ̀ ẹnu rẹ. Kọ́ àwọn ọmọbìnrin yín ní ìpohùnréré ẹkún, kí ẹ sì kọ́ ara yín ní arò.
Women, listen to the Lord's message, hear what he has to say. Teach your daughters to mourn and sing songs of sadness.
21 Ikú ti gba ojú fèrèsé wa wọlé ó sì ti wọ odi alágbára wa ó ti ké àwọn ọmọ kúrò ní àdúgbò àti àwọn ọ̀dọ́mọkùnrin kúrò ní gbọ̀ngàn ìta gbangba.
Death has slipped in through our windows; it has come into our fortresses. It has killed the children playing in the streets and the young people gathering in the town squares.
22 Sọ pé, “Èyí ni ohun tí Olúwa wí: “‘Òkú àwọn ènìyàn yóò ṣubú bí ààtàn ní oko gbangba àti bí ìbùkúnwọ́ lẹ́yìn olùkórè láìsí ẹnìkankan láti kó wọn jọ.’”
Tell everyone this is what the Lord says: Dead bodies will be left where they fall like manure in the fields, lying there like stalks of freshly-cut grain behind the reaper, with no one to collect them.
23 Èyí ni ohun tí Olúwa wí: “Má ṣe jẹ́ kí ọlọ́gbọ́n yangàn nítorí agbára ọgbọ́n rẹ̀, tàbí alágbára nítorí agbára rẹ̀, tàbí ọlọ́rọ̀ nítorí ọrọ̀ rẹ̀.
This is what the Lord says: The wise shouldn't boast about their wisdom. The strong shouldn't boast about their strength. The rich shouldn't boast about their riches.
24 Ẹ jẹ́ kí ẹni tí ń ṣògo nípa èyí nì wí pé: òun ní òye, òun sì mọ̀ mí wí pé, Èmi ni Olúwa tí ń ṣe òtítọ́, ìdájọ́ àti òdodo ní ayé, nínú èyí ni mo ní inú dídùn sí,” Olúwa wí.
Anyone who wants to boast should boast that they really know and understand me, recognizing that I am the Lord who acts with trustworthy love, who shows fairness, and who does what is right everywhere on earth, because these mean the most to me, declares the Lord.
25 “Ọjọ́ ń bọ̀,” ni Olúwa wí, “tí Èmi yóò fi ìyà jẹ gbogbo àwọn tí a kọ ilà fún nínú ara nìkan.
Watch out, for the time is coming, declares the Lord, when I will punish all who are only physically circumcised.
26 Ejibiti, Juda, Edomu, Ammoni, Moabu àti gbogbo àwọn tí ń gbé ní ọ̀nà jíjìn réré ní aginjù. Nítorí pé gbogbo àwọn orílẹ̀-èdè wọ̀nyí jẹ́ aláìkọlà gbogbo àwọn ará ilé Israẹli sì jẹ́ aláìkọlà ọkàn.”
Egypt, Judah, Edom, Ammon, Moab, and all the desert people who trim their hair on the sides of their heads—all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the Israelites are spiritually uncircumcised.
