< Jeremiah 3 >

1 “Bí ọkùnrin kan bá sì kọ ìyàwó rẹ̀ sílẹ̀ tí obìnrin náà sì lọ fẹ́ ọkọ mìíràn, ǹjẹ́ ọkùnrin náà tún lè tọ̀ ọ́ wá? Ǹjẹ́ ilẹ̀ náà kò ní di aláìmọ́ bí? Ṣùgbọ́n ìwọ ti gbé pẹ̀lú onírúurú panṣágà gẹ́gẹ́ bí olùfẹ́, ṣé ìwọ yóò tún padà sọ́dọ̀ mi bí?” ni Olúwa wí.
One could say, Behold, if a man send away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man's, can he return unto her again? would not that land be greatly polluted? and thou hast played the harlot with many companions, and wilt yet return to me, saith the Lord.
2 “Gbé ojú rẹ sókè sí ibi gíga wọ̀n-ọn-nì, kí o sì wò ó ibi kan ha wà tí a kò bà ọ́ jẹ́? Ní ojú ọ̀nà, ìwọ jókòó de àwọn olólùfẹ́, bí i ará Arabia kan nínú aginjù, ìwọ sì ti ba ilẹ̀ náà jẹ́ pẹ̀lú ìwà àgbèrè àti ìwà búburú rẹ.
Lift up thy eyes unto the mountain-tops, and see where thou hast not been lain with. On public roads hast thou sat for them, as the Arab in the wilderness; and thou hast polluted the land with thy incests and with thy wickedness.
3 Nítorí náà, a ti fa ọ̀wààrà òjò sẹ́yìn, kò sì ṣí òjò àrọ̀kúrò. Síbẹ̀ ìwọ ní ojú líle ti panṣágà, ìwọ sì kọ̀ láti ní ìtìjú.
And [though] the early showers were withholden, and the latter rain came not: yet hadst thou a forehead of an incestuous wife, thou refusedst to feel shame.
4 Ǹjẹ́ ìwọ kò ha a pè mí láìpẹ́ yìí pé, ‘Baba mi, ìwọ ọ̀rẹ́ mi láti ìgbà èwe mi.
Wilt thou not from this time call out unto mem My father, the guide of my youth art thou?
5 Ìwọ yóò ha máa bínú títí? Ìbínú rẹ yóò ha máa lọ títí láé?’ Báyìí ni o ṣe ń sọ̀rọ̀ ìwọ ṣe gbogbo ibi tí ìwọ le ṣe.”
Will he bear grudge for ever? will he keep it to eternity? Behold, thou hast spoken [this], and yet hast done the things that are evil as much as thou wast able.
6 Ní àkókò ìjọba Josiah ọba, Olúwa wí fún mi pé, “Ṣé o ti rí nǹkan tí àwọn Israẹli aláìnígbàgbọ́ ti ṣe? Wọ́n ti lọ sí àwọn òkè gíga àti sí abẹ́ àwọn igi, wọ́n sì ti ṣe àgbèrè níbẹ̀.
And the Lord said unto me in the days of Josiah the king, Hast thou seen what backsliding Israel hath done? she is gone upon every high mountain and under every green tree, and hath played the harlot there.
7 Mo rò pé nígbà tí wọ́n ti ṣe èyí wọn yóò padà, wọn kò padà, Juda aláìgbàgbọ́ arábìnrin rẹ̀ náà sì rí i.
And I thought that after she had done all these things, she would return unto me. But she returned not. And this saw her treacherous sister Judah.
8 Mo fún Israẹli aláìnígbàgbọ́ ní ìwé ìkọ̀sílẹ̀, mo sì ké wọn kúrò nítorí gbogbo àgbèrè wọn. Síbẹ̀ mo rí pé Juda tí ó jẹ́ arábìnrin rẹ̀ kò bẹ̀rù, òun náà sì jáde lọ láti lọ ṣe àgbèrè.
And I saw, that, although because backsliding Israel had committed adultery, I had sent her away, and given her bill of divorce unto her, still treacherous Judah her sister feared not, but went and played herself the harlot also.
9 Nítorí ìwà èérí Israẹli kò jọ ọ́ lójú, ó ti ba ilẹ̀ jẹ́, ó sì ti ṣe àgbèrè pẹ̀lú òkúta àti igi.
And it came to pass through her giddy incest, that she defiled the land, and committed adultery with stone and with wood.
10 Látàrí gbogbo nǹkan wọ̀nyí Juda arábìnrin rẹ̀ aláìgbàgbọ́ kò padà tọ̀ mí wá pẹ̀lú gbogbo ọkàn rẹ̀, bí kò ṣe nípa fífarahàn bí olóòtítọ́,” ni Olúwa wí.
And yet with all this her treacherous sister Judah hath not returned unto me with all her heart, but with falsehood, saith the Lord.
11 Olúwa wí fún mi pé, “Israẹli aláìnígbàgbọ́ ṣe òdodo ju Juda tí ó ní ìgbàgbọ́ lọ.
And the Lord said unto me, The backsliding Israel hath justified herself through the treacherous Judah.
12 Lọ polongo ọ̀rọ̀ náà, lọ sí ìhà àríwá: “‘Yípadà, Israẹli aláìnígbàgbọ́,’ ni Olúwa wí. ‘Ojú mi kì yóò korò sí ọ mọ́, nítorí mo jẹ́ aláàánú, ni Olúwa wí. Èmi kì yóò sì bínú mọ́ títí láé.
Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith the Lord: I will not cause my anger to fall upon you; for I am full of kindness, saith the Lord, I will not hear grudge for ever.
13 Sá à ti mọ ẹ̀bi rẹ, ìwọ ti ṣọ̀tẹ̀ sí Olúwa Ọlọ́run rẹ, ìwọ ti wá ojúrere rẹ lọ́dọ̀ ọlọ́run àjèjì lábẹ́ gbogbo igikígi tí ó gbilẹ̀, ẹ̀yin kò gba ohun mi gbọ́,’” ni Olúwa wí.
Only acknowledge thy iniquity, that against the Lord thy God thou hast rebelled, and hast scattered thy ways to the strangers under every green tree, and that unto my voice ye have not hearkened, saith the Lord.
14 “Padà, ẹ̀yin ènìyàn aláìnígbàgbọ́,” ni Olúwa wí, “nítorí èmi ni ọkọ rẹ. Èmi ó yàn ọ́, ọ̀kan láti ìlú àti méjì láti ẹ̀yà. Èmi ó sì mú ọ wá sí Sioni.
Return, O backsliding children, saith the Lord; for I am become your husband; and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and bring you to Zion:
15 Lẹ́yìn èyí, èmi ó fún ọ ní àwọn olùṣọ́-àgùntàn láti inú ọkàn mi, tí wọn yóò ṣáájú yín pẹ̀lú òye àti ìmọ̀.
And I will give you shepherds after my own heart, and they shall feed you with knowledge and intelligence.
16 Ní ọjọ́ wọ̀n-ọn-nì, tí ẹ̀yin bá pọ̀ sí i lórí ilẹ̀ náà,” ni Olúwa wí, “àwọn ènìyàn kò tún lè sọ pé, ‘Àpótí ẹ̀rí Olúwa.’ Kò ní wá sí ìrántí wọn mọ́, a kì yóò pàdánù rẹ̀, bẹ́ẹ̀ ni a kì yóò sì tún kan òmíràn mọ́.
And it shall come to pass, when ye multiply and increase in the land, in those days, saith the Lord, that men shall not say any more, “The ark of the covenant of the Lord;” nor shall it come any more to mind; nor shall they remember it; nor shall they mention it; nor shall any thing be done any more [with it].
17 Ní ìgbà náà, wọn yóò pe Jerusalẹmu ní ìtẹ́ Olúwa gbogbo orílẹ̀-èdè yóò péjọ sí Jerusalẹmu láti bọ̀wọ̀ fún orúkọ Olúwa, wọn kì yóò sì tún tẹ̀lé àyà líle búburú wọn mọ́.
At that time shall they call Jerusalem, The throne of the Lord; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the Lord, to Jerusalem: and they shall not walk any more after the stubbornness of their evil heart.
18 Ní ọjọ́ wọ̀n-ọn-nì ni ilé Juda yóò darapọ̀ mọ́ ilé Israẹli. Wọn yóò sì wá láti ilẹ̀ àríwá wá sí ilẹ̀ tí mo fi fún àwọn baba ńlá yín gẹ́gẹ́ bí ilẹ̀ ìní.
In those days shall the house of Judah walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the land of the north unto the land that I have given for an inheritance unto your fathers.
19 “Èmi fúnra mi sọ wí pé, “‘Báwo ni inú mi yóò ti dùn tó, kí èmi kí ó tọ́ ọ bí ọmọkùnrin kí n sì fún ọ ní ilẹ̀ tí ó tó.’ Mo rò pé ìwọ yóò pè mí ní ‘Baba mi’ o kò sì ní ṣàì tọ̀ mí lẹ́yìn.
But I had thought, How shall I establish thee among the [other] sons [of man], and give thee a desirable land, a heritage of glory of the hosts of nations? and I thought, My father thou wouldst call me, and that from me thou wouldst not turn away.
20 Ṣùgbọ́n gẹ́gẹ́ bí aláìgbàgbọ́ obìnrin sí ọkọ rẹ̀, bẹ́ẹ̀ gẹ́gẹ́ o jẹ́ aláìgbàgbọ́ sí mi. Ìwọ ilé Israẹli,” ni Olúwa wí.
But truly as a wife treacherously departeth from her husband, so have ye dealt treacherously with me, O house of Israel, saith the Lord.
21 A gbọ́ ohùn àgàn láti ibi gíga, ẹkún àti ẹ̀bẹ̀ àwọn ọmọ Israẹli, nítorí wọ́n ti yí ọ̀nà wọn po, wọ́n sì ti gbàgbé Olúwa Ọlọ́run wọn.
A voice is now heard upon the mountain-tops, the supplicatory weeping of the children of Israel; for they have perverted their way, they have forgotten the Lord their God.
22 “Padà, ẹ̀yin ènìyàn aláìnígbàgbọ́, Èmi ó wo ìpadàsẹ́yìn kúrò ní ọ̀nà títọ́ rẹ sàn.” “Bẹ́ẹ̀, ni a ó wá sọ́dọ̀ rẹ nítorí ìwọ ni Olúwa Ọlọ́run wa.
Return, ye backsliding children, I will heal your backslidings. “Behold, we come unto thee; for thou art the Lord our God.
23 Nítòótọ́, asán ni ìbọ̀rìṣà àti ìrúkèrúdò tí ó wà ní àwọn orí òkè kéékèèké àti àwọn òkè gíga, nítòótọ́, nínú Olúwa Ọlọ́run wa ni ìgbàlà Israẹli wà.
Truly deceptive was [what we hoped for] from the hills, and the multitude on the mountains; truly in the Lord our God is the salvation of Israel.
24 Láti ìgbà èwe wa ni àwọn òrìṣà ìtìjú ti jẹ èso iṣẹ́ àwọn baba wa run, ọ̀wọ́ ẹran wọn àti agbo ẹran wọn, ọmọkùnrin àti ọmọbìnrin wọn.
And shame hath devoured the acquisition of our fathers from our youth, their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters.
25 Jẹ́ kí a dùbúlẹ̀ nínú ìtìjú wa, kí ìtìjú wa bò wá mọ́lẹ̀. A ti ṣẹ̀ sí Olúwa Ọlọ́run wa, àwa àti àwọn baba wa, láti ìgbà èwe wa títí di òní a kò gbọ́rọ̀ sí Olúwa Ọlọ́run wa.”
We lie down in our shame, and our confusion covereth us; for against the Lord our God have we sinned, we and our fathers, from our youth even until this day; and we have not hearkened to the voice of the Lord our God.”
