1 Ní ọdún kejì ọba Dariusi ní ọjọ́ kìn-ín-ní oṣù kẹfà, ọ̀rọ̀ Olúwa wá nípasẹ̀ wòlíì Hagai sí Serubbabeli ọmọ Ṣealitieli, baálẹ̀ Juda, àti sọ́dọ̀ Joṣua ọmọ Josadaki, olórí àlùfáà.
In the second year of Darius the king, on the first day of the sixth month, this message from the Lord came through Haggai the prophet to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest:
2 Báyìí ni Olúwa àwọn ọmọ-ogun wí: “Àwọn ènìyàn wọ̀nyí wí pé, ‘Kò tí ì tó àkókò láti kọ́ ilé Olúwa.’”
The Lord of hosts says: The people say that the time has not yet come to rebuild the temple of the Lord.
3 Nígbà náà ni ọ̀rọ̀ Olúwa wá láti ọ̀dọ̀ wòlíì Hagai wí pé,
Then this message from the Lord came to Haggai the prophet:
4 “Ǹjẹ́ àkókò ni fún ẹ̀yin fúnra yín láti máa gbé ní ilé tí a ṣe ní ọ̀ṣọ́ nígbà tí ilé yìí wà ni ahoro?”
Is it a time for you yourselves to live in your own well-roofed houses, while this temple lies in ruins?
5 Nísìnsinyìí, èyí ni ohun tí Olúwa àwọn ọmọ-ogun wí: “Ẹ kíyèsi ọ̀nà yín.
The Lord of hosts says: Consider your past experiences.
6 Ẹ̀yin ti gbìn ohun ti ó pọ̀. Ṣùgbọ́n ẹ̀yin kórè díẹ̀ níbẹ̀. Ẹ̀yin jẹun, ṣùgbọ́n ẹ̀yin kò yó. Ẹ̀yin mu ṣùgbọ́n kò tẹ́ ẹ yín lọ́run; ẹ̀yin wọ aṣọ, ṣùgbọ́n kò mú òtútù yin lọ; ẹyin gba owó iṣẹ́ ṣùgbọ́n ẹ ń gbà á sínú ajádìí àpò.”
You sow much, but bring in little; you eat, but you do not have enough; you drink, but are not filled; you clothe yourselves, but not enough to be warm; and those who earn wages, put those wages in a bag with holes.
7 Báyìí ni Olúwa àwọn ọmọ-ogun wí: “Ẹ kíyèsi ọ̀nà yín.
The Lord of hosts says: Consider your experiences.
8 Ẹ gun orí àwọn òkè ńlá lọ, kí ẹ sì mú igi wá pẹ̀lú yín. Kí ẹ sì kọ́ ilé náà, kí inú mi bà le è dùn sí i, kí a sì yín mí lógo,” ni Olúwa wí.
Go up to the mountains, and bring wood and rebuild the temple; then I will be pleased with it, and I will reveal my glory. The Lord says:
9 “Ẹyin ti ń retí ọ̀pọ̀, ṣùgbọ́n kíyèsi i, o yípadà sí díẹ̀. Ohun tí ẹ̀yin mú wa ilé, èmi sì fẹ́ ẹ dànù. Nítorí kí ni?” ni Olúwa àwọn ọmọ-ogun wí. “Nítorí ilé mi tí ó dahoro; tí olúkúlùkù yín sì ń sáré fún ilé ara rẹ̀.
You looked for much, and it came to little; and when you brought the harvest home, I blew it away. Why? The Lord of hosts says: Because my temple lies in ruins, while you shelter in your own houses.
10 Nítorí yín ni àwọn ọ̀run ṣe dá ìrì dúró tí ilẹ̀ sì kọ̀ láti mu èso jáde.
The heavens withhold the dew, and the earth withholds its fruit,
11 Mo sì ti pe ọ̀dá sórí ilẹ̀ àti sórí àwọn òkè ńlá, sórí ọkà àti sórí wáìnì tuntun, sórí òróró àti sórí ohun ti ilẹ̀ ń mú jáde, sórí ènìyàn, sórí ẹran àti sórí gbogbo iṣẹ́ ọwọ́ yín.”
and I have called forth a drought upon the land and upon the mountains, and upon the grain and the new wine and the oil and upon that which the ground brings forth, and upon people and animals, and upon all the labor of your hands.
12 Nígbà náà ni Serubbabeli ọmọ Ṣealitieli, Joṣua ọmọ Josadaki, olórí àlùfáà pẹ̀lú gbogbo ènìyàn ìyókù, gba ohùn Olúwa Ọlọ́run wọn gbọ́ àti ọ̀rọ̀ wòlíì Hagai, nítorí Olúwa Ọlọ́run ni ó rán an. Àwọn ènìyàn sì bẹ̀rù Olúwa.
Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and Joshua the son of Jehozadak the high priest, with all the rest of the people, obeyed the command of the Lord their God and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the Lord their God had sent him to them. They showed proper respect for the Lord.
13 Nígbà náà ni Hagai ìránṣẹ́ Olúwa ń jíṣẹ́ Olúwa fún àwọn ènìyàn pé, “Èmí wà pẹ̀lú yín,” ni Olúwa wí.
Haggai, the prophet of the Lord, as the Lord commanded him, told the people: ‘The Lord says: I am with you.’
14 Nítorí náà, Olúwa ru ẹ̀mí Serubbabeli ọmọ Ṣealitieli sókè, baálẹ̀ Juda àti ẹ̀mí Joṣua ọmọ Josadaki, olórí àlùfáà àti ẹ̀mí gbogbo ènìyàn ìyókù. Wọ́n sì wá, wọ́n sì bẹ̀rẹ̀ sí ní ṣiṣẹ́ lórí ilé Olúwa àwọn ọmọ-ogun Ọlọ́run wọn,
And the Lord stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak the high priest, and the spirit of all the rest of the people, so that they came and worked on the temple of the Lord of hosts, their God,
