< Deuteronomy 20 >
1 Nígbà tí o bá lọ sí ogun pẹ̀lú ọ̀tá rẹ, tí o sì rí ẹṣin àti àwọn kẹ̀kẹ́ ogun àti ológun tí ó jù ọ́ lọ, má ṣe bẹ̀rù u wọn, nítorí Olúwa Ọlọ́run rẹ tí ń mú ọ jáde wá láti ilẹ̀ Ejibiti, yóò wà pẹ̀lú rẹ.
When thou shalt go out to wage war against thine enemy, and shalt see the horses and chariots of a people more in number than thou, thou shalt not be afraid of them, —for, Yahweh thy God, is with thee, who brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
2 Nígbà tí o bá fẹ́ lọ jagun, àlùfáà yóò wá síwájú, yóò sì bá ọmọ-ogun sọ̀rọ̀,
And it shall be, when ye are coming nigh unto the battle, that the priest shall approach and speak unto the people;
3 yóò sì wí pé, “Gbọ́, ìwọ Israẹli, lónìí ò ń jáde lọ sójú ogun sí ọ̀tá rẹ. Ẹ má ṣe jẹ́ kí ọkàn yín ṣojo tàbí bẹ̀rù; ẹ má ṣe jáyà tàbí kí ẹ fi ààyè fún ìjayà níwájú u wọn.
and shall say unto them, —Hear, O Israel, ye are coming near to-day, unto battle against your enemies, —let not your heart faint do not fear nor start nor quake because of them.
4 Nítorí Olúwa Ọlọ́run yín ní bá yín lọ, láti bá àwọn ọ̀tá yín jà fún yín, láti gbà yín là.”
For Yahweh your God, is he that is going with you, —to fight for you against your enemies to save you.
5 Àwọn olórí ogun yóò sì wí fún àwọn ènìyàn pé, “Ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó kọ́ ilé tuntun tí kò sì tì ì yà á sọ́tọ̀? Jẹ́ kí ó lọ ilé, tàbí ó lè kú sójú ogun kí ẹlòmíràn sì gbà á.
Then shall the officers speak unto the people saying, Who is the man that hath built a new house and hath not dedicated it? let him go and return unto his house, —lest he die in the battle, and, another man dedicate it.
6 Ǹjẹ́ ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó gbin ọgbà àjàrà kan tí kò sì tí ì bẹ̀rẹ̀ sí ń gbádùn rẹ̀? Jẹ́ kí ó lọ ilé, tàbí kí ó kú sójú ogun kí ẹlòmíràn sì gbádùn rẹ̀.
And who is the man that hath planted a vineyard and hath not thrown it open? let him go and return unto his house, —lest he die in the battle, and another man, throw it open.
7 Ǹjẹ́ ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó wá ògo obìnrin kan tí kò ì tí ì fẹ́ ẹ? Jẹ́ kí ó lọ ilé, tàbí kí ó kú sójú ogun kí ẹlòmíràn sì fẹ́ ẹ.”
And who is the man that hath betrothed a wife and hath not taken her? let him go and return unto his house, —lest he die in the battle, and, another man, take her.
8 Nígbà náà ni olórí yóò tún fi kún un pé, “Ǹjẹ́ ọkùnrin kankan ń bẹ̀rù tàbí páyà? Jẹ́ kí ó lọ ilé nítorí kí arákùnrin rẹ̀ má ba à wá tún dáyà fò ó.”
Then shall the officers further speak unto the people, and say—Who is the man that is fearful and faint-hearted? let him go and return unto his house, —lest his brethren’s heart melt as well as his heart.
9 Nígbà tí olórí ogun bá ti dákẹ́ ọ̀rọ̀ sísọ sí àwọn ènìyàn, wọn yóò yan olórí ogun lórí i rẹ̀.
And it shall be, when the officers have made an end of speaking unto the people, then shall they appoint captains of hosts at the head of the people.
10 Nígbà tí ó bá súnmọ́ iwájú láti dojúkọ ìlú kan láti bá a jà, nígbà náà ni kí ó fi àlàáfíà lọ̀ ọ́.
When thou shalt come nigh unto a city, to fight against it, —then shalt thou proclaim unto it—peace,
11 Tí wọ́n bá dá ọ lóhùn àlàáfíà, tí wọ́n sì ṣí ìlẹ̀kùn, gbogbo àwọn tó wà níbẹ̀ yóò máa jẹ́ olùsìn fún ọ, wọn ó sì máa sìn ọ́.
and it shall be if peace, be the answer it giveth thee, and it open unto thee, then shall it be, that, all the people that are found therein, shall become thy tributaries and shall serve thee.
12 Tí wọ́n bá kọ̀ láti bá ọ ṣe àlàáfíà ṣùgbọ́n tí wọ́n bá gbóguntì ọ́, nígbà náà ni kí ìwọ gbà á.
But if it will not make peace with thee, but will make war with thee, then shalt thou lay siege to it;
13 Nígbà tí Olúwa Ọlọ́run rẹ bá fi lé ọ lọ́wọ́, kí ẹ̀yin kí ó fi ojú idà pa gbogbo àwọn ọkùnrin tí ó wà níbẹ̀.
and Yahweh thy God will deliver it into thy hand, —and thou shalt smite every male thereof with the edge of the sword;
14 Ní ti obìnrin, àwọn ọmọdé, ohun ọ̀sìn àti gbogbo ohun tí ó kù nínú ìlú náà, o lè mú ìwọ̀nyí gẹ́gẹ́ bí ìkógun fún ara rẹ. O sì lè lo ìkógun tí Olúwa Ọlọ́run rẹ fi fún ọ láti ọ̀dọ̀ àwọn ọ̀tá rẹ.
but the women and the little ones and the cattle and all that shall be in the city—all the spoil thereof, shalt thou take as thy prey, —so shalt thou eat the spoil of thine enemies, whom Yahweh thy God hath delivered unto thee.
15 Báyìí ni ìwọ yóò ṣe sí gbogbo ìlú tí wọ́n wà ní ọ̀nà jíjìn sí ọ tí wọn kò sì tara àwọn orílẹ̀-èdè tí ó wà lẹ́gbẹ̀ẹ́ ẹ̀ rẹ.
Thus, shalt thou do unto all the cities that are very far away from thee, —which are not of the cities of those nations.
16 Ṣùgbọ́n, nínú àwọn ìlú ti àwọn orílẹ̀-èdè tí Olúwa Ọlọ́run rẹ ń fún ọ gẹ́gẹ́ bí ogún, má ṣe dá ohun ẹlẹ́mìí kankan sí.
But of the cities of these peoples which Yahweh thy God is giving unto thee as an inheritance, shalt thou not save alive, any breathing thing.
17 Pa wọ́n run pátápátá, àwọn ọmọ Hiti, ọmọ Amori, ọmọ Kenaani, ọmọ Peresi, ọmọ Hifi, ọmọ Jebusi gẹ́gẹ́ bí Olúwa Ọlọ́run rẹ ti pa á láṣẹ fún ọ.
But thou shalt devote them to destruction—the Hittites and the Amorites the Canaanites and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, —as Yahweh thy God hath commanded thee:
18 Bí kò ṣe bẹ́ẹ̀, wọn yóò kọ́ ọ láti tẹ̀lé gbogbo ohun ìríra tí wọ́n ń ṣe nínú sí sin àwọn ọlọ́run wọn, ìwọ yóò sì ṣẹ̀ sí Olúwa Ọlọ́run rẹ.
lest they teach you to do, according to all their abominations, which they have done unto their gods, —and so ye sin against Yahweh your God.
19 Nígbà tí o bá dó ti ìlú kan láti ọjọ́ pípẹ́, ẹ bá wọn jà láti gbà á, má ṣe pa àwọn igi ibẹ̀ run nípa gbígbé àáké lé wọn, nítorí o lè jẹ èso wọn. Má ṣe gé wọn lulẹ̀. Nítorí igi igbó ha á ṣe ènìyàn bí, tí ìwọ ó máa dó tì rẹ̀.
When thou shalt besiege a city for many days to fight against it, to take it, thou shalt not destroy the trees thereof by wielding against them an axe, when of them, thou mightest eat, them, there-fore shalt thou not cut down, —for, Is the tree of the field, a man, that it should enter, because of thee into the siege?
20 Ṣùgbọ́n ìwọ lè gé àwọn igi tí o mọ̀ pé wọn kì í ṣe igi eléso lulẹ̀ kí o sì lò wọ́n láti kọ́ ìṣọ́ sí ìlú tí ó ń bá ọ jagun, títí tí yóò fi ṣubú.
Nevertheless, the tree of which thou knowest that it is, not a tree yielding food, the same, mayest thou destroy, and cut down, —and so build up a siege-work against the city which is making war with thee, until thou hast subdued it.
