< Daniel 1 >
1 Ní ọdún kẹta tí Jehoiakimu jẹ ọba Juda, Nebukadnessari ọba Babeli wá sí Jerusalẹmu, ó sì kọlù ú pẹ̀lú àwọn ọmọ-ogun rẹ̀.
In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it.
And the Lord delivered into his hand Jehoiakim the king of Judah and a portion of the vessels of the house of God. And he carried them away into the land of Shinar, to the house of his god, and he brought the vessels into the treasure chamber of his god.
3 Nígbà náà ni ọba pàṣẹ fún Aṣipenasi, olórí àwọn ìwẹ̀fà ààfin rẹ̀ pé, kí ó mú nínú àwọn ọmọ Israẹli tí wọ́n wá láti ìdílé ọba àti lára àwọn tí ó wá láti ilé ọlá.
And the king told Ashpenaz, the chief of the eunuchs, that he should bring in some of the sons of Israel, and some of the offspring of the king and of the sovereigns:
4 Àwọn ọ̀dọ́mọkùnrin tí kò ní àbùkù ara, tí wọ́n rẹwà, tí wọ́n sì fi ìfẹ́ sí ẹ̀kọ́ hàn, tí wọ́n sì ní ìmọ̀, tí òye tètè ń yé àti àwọn tí ó kún ojú òsùwọ̀n láti ṣiṣẹ́ ní ààfin ọba kí ó kọ́ wọ́n ní èdè àti onírúurú ẹ̀kọ́ ìwé ti àwọn Babeli.
young men, in whom there was no blemish, noble in appearance, and accomplished in all wisdom, cautious in knowledge, and well-educated, and who could stand in the palace of the king, so that he might teach them the letters and the language of the Chaldeans.
5 Ọba pèsè oúnjẹ ojoojúmọ́ àti wáìnì láti orí tábìlì i rẹ̀ fún wọn, ó sì kọ́ wọn fún ọdún mẹ́ta. Lẹ́yìn náà ni wọn yóò bẹ̀rẹ̀ sí í ṣiṣẹ́ fún ọba.
And the king appointed for them provisions for each day, from his own food and from the wine which he himself drank, so that, after being nourished for three years, they would stand in the sight of the king.
6 Lára àwọn wọ̀nyí ni àwọn tó wá láti Juda: Daniẹli, Hananiah, Miṣaeli àti Asariah.
Now, among those of the sons of Judah, there were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.
7 Olórí àwọn ìwẹ̀fà fún wọn ní orúkọ tuntun: Ó fún Daniẹli ní Belteṣassari, ó fún Hananiah ní Ṣadraki, ó fún Miṣaeli ní Meṣaki àti Asariah ní Abednego.
And the chief of the eunuchs assigned names to them: to Daniel, Belteshazzar; to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abednego.
8 Ṣùgbọ́n Daniẹli pinnu ní ọkàn ara rẹ̀ pé òun kò ní ba ara òun jẹ́ pẹ̀lú oúnjẹ àti wáìnì ọba, nígbà náà ni ó gba ààyè lọ́wọ́ olórí àwọn ìwẹ̀fà wí pé òun kò fẹ́ ba ara òun jẹ́ ní ọ̀nà yìí.
But Daniel resolved in his heart that he would not be polluted with the king’s meal, nor with the wine he drank, and he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not be contaminated.
9 Ọlọ́run mú kí Daniẹli rí ojúrere àti àánú gbà láti ọwọ́ olórí àwọn ìwẹ̀fà,
And so God gave Daniel grace and mercy in the sight of the leader of the eunuchs.
10 ṣùgbọ́n olórí àwọn ìwẹ̀fà sọ fún Daniẹli pé, “Mo bẹ̀rù olúwa mi, ẹni tí o ti pèsè oúnjẹ àti ohun mímu rẹ. Báwo ni ìrísí rẹ yóò ṣe burú jù ti àwọn ọ̀dọ́mọkùnrin ẹlẹgbẹ́ ẹ̀ rẹ lọ? Nígbà náà ni èmi yóò fi orí mi wéwu lọ́dọ̀ ọba.”
And the leader of the eunuchs said to Daniel, “I am afraid of my lord the king, who has appointed food and drink for you, who, if he should see that your faces are leaner than those of the other youths your age, you would condemn my head to the king.”
11 Nígbà náà ni Daniẹli sọ fún olùṣọ́ tí olórí àwọn ìwẹ̀fà yàn lórí i Daniẹli, Hananiah, Miṣaeli àti Asariah pé,
And Daniel said to Malasar, whom the leader of the eunuchs had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,
12 “Jọ̀wọ́ dán àwa ìránṣẹ́ rẹ wò fún ọjọ́ mẹ́wàá. Má ṣe fún wa ní ohun kankan, àfi ewébẹ̀ láti jẹ àti omi láti mu.
“I beg you to test us, your servants, for ten days, and let roots be given to us to eat and water to drink,
13 Nígbà náà ni kí o fi ìrísí i wa wé ti àwọn ọ̀dọ́mọkùnrin tí wọ́n ń jẹ oúnjẹ ọba, kí o sì ṣe àwa ìránṣẹ́ rẹ ní ìbámu pẹ̀lú u bí o bá ṣe rí i sí.”
and then observe our faces, and the faces of the children who eat the king’s food, and then deal with your servants according to what you see.”
14 Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni ó sì gbà láti dán wọn wò fún ọjọ́ mẹ́wàá.
When he had heard these words, he tested them for ten days.
15 Lẹ́yìn ọjọ́ kẹwàá ara wọn le, wọ́n sì sanra ju àwọn ọ̀dọ́mọkùnrin tí wọ́n ń jẹ oúnjẹ ọba lọ.
But, after ten days, their faces appeared better and fatter than all the children who had eaten from the king’s food.
16 Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni olùṣọ́ mú oúnjẹ àdídùn àti wáìnì tí ó yẹ kí wọ́n mu kúrò, ó sì fún wọn ní ewébẹ̀ dípò rẹ̀.
Thereafter, Malasar took away their portions and their wine for drinking, and he gave them roots.
17 Ọlọ́run fún àwọn ọ̀dọ́mọkùnrin mẹ́rẹ̀ẹ̀rin wọ̀nyí ní ìmọ̀ àti òye nínú gbogbo onírúurú ìwé àti ẹ̀kọ́ ọ wọn: Daniẹli sì ní òye ìran àti àlá ní oríṣìíríṣìí.
Yet, to these children, God gave knowledge and instruction in every book, and wisdom, but to Daniel, also the understanding of all visions and dreams.
18 Ní òpin ìgbà tí ọba dá, pé kí a mú wọn wá sínú ààfin, olórí àwọn ìwẹ̀fà mú wọn wá síwájú ọba Nebukadnessari.
And when the time was completed, after which the king had said that they would be brought in, the chief of the eunuchs brought them in before the sight of Nebuchadnezzar.
19 Ọba sì bá wọn sọ̀rọ̀, ó sì rí i pé kò sí ẹni tí ó dàbí i Daniẹli, Hananiah, Miṣaeli àti Asariah; nítorí náà wọ́n bẹ̀rẹ̀ sí ní ṣe iṣẹ́ ọba.
And, when the king conversed with them, there had not been found any so great in all the world as Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah; and so they stood in the sight of the king.
20 Nínú gbogbo ọ̀ràn ọgbọ́n àti òye tí ọba ń béèrè lọ́wọ́ wọn, ó rí i pé wọ́n sàn ní ìlọ́po mẹ́wàá ju gbogbo àwọn amòye àti ọlọ́gbọ́n tí ó wà ní gbogbo ìjọba rẹ̀.
And in every concept of wisdom and understanding, about which the king consulted with them, he found them to be ten times better than all the seers and astrologers put together, who were in his entire kingdom.
21 Daniẹli sì wà níbẹ̀ títí di ọdún kìn-ín-ní ọba Kirusi.
And so Daniel remained, even until the first year of king Cyrus.
