< Acts 8 >
1 Saulu sì wà níbẹ̀, ó sì fi àṣẹ sí ikú rẹ̀. Ní àkókò náà, inúnibíni ńlá kan dìde sí ìjọ tí ó wà ni Jerusalẹmu, gbogbo wọn sì túká káàkiri agbègbè Judea àti Samaria, àyàfi àwọn aposteli.
And Saul was well pleased with his execution. For at that time there was a great persecution against the church in Jerusalem, and they were all dispersed through the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.
2 Àwọn ènìyàn olùfọkànsìn kan sì gbé òkú Stefanu lọ sin, wọ́n sì pohùnréré ẹkún kíkan sórí rẹ̀.
And some pious men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation for him.
3 Ṣùgbọ́n Saulu bẹ̀rẹ̀ sí da ìjọ ènìyàn Ọlọ́run rú. Ó ń wọ ilé dé ilé, ó sì ń mú àwọn ọkùnrin àti obìnrin, ó sì ń fi wọn sínú túbú.
But Saul made havock of the church, entring into the houses, and dragging out men and women, committed them to prison.
4 Àwọn tí wọ́n sì túká lọ sí ibi gbogbo ń wàásù ọ̀rọ̀ náà.
Now they that were dispersed went about preaching the word.
5 Filipi sì sọ̀kalẹ̀ lọ sí ìlú Samaria, ó ń wàásù Kristi fún wọn.
And Philip coming to the city of Samaria, preached Christ unto them.
6 Nígbà tí ìjọ àwọn ènìyàn gbọ́, tí wọn sì rí iṣẹ́ àmì tí Filipi ń ṣe, gbogbo wọn sì fi ọkàn kan fiyèsí ohun tí ó ń sọ.
And the people unanimously attended to the things which were spoken by Philip, hearing and seeing the miracles which he wrought:
7 Nítorí tí àwọn ẹ̀mí àìmọ́ ń kígbe sókè bí wọ́n ti ń jáde kúrò lára àwọn ènìyàn, ọ̀pọ̀ àwọn arọ àti amúnkùn ún ni ó sì gba ìmúláradá.
for impure spirits crying with a loud voice came out of many that were possessed by them; and many paralytic and lame persons were cured.
8 Ayọ̀ púpọ̀ sì wà ni ìlú náà.
And there was great joy in that city.
9 Ṣùgbọ́n ọkùnrin kan wà, tí a ń pè ní Simoni, tí ó ti máa ń pa idán ní ìlú náà, ó sì mú kí ẹnu ya àwọn ará Samaria. Ó sì máa ń fọ́nnu pé ènìyàn ńlá kan ni òun.
But there was before in the city a man named Simon practising magic and bewitching the people of Samaria, giving out that he was some great person.
10 Ẹni tí gbogbo èwe àti àgbà fiyèsí tí wọ́n sì ń bu ọlá fún wí pé, “Ọkùnrin yìí ní agbára Ọlọ́run ti ń jẹ́ ńlá.”
Whom they all greatly regarded, from the lest to the greatest, saying, This man is as the great power of God.
11 Wọ́n bu ọlá fún un, nítorí ọjọ́ pípẹ́ ni ó ti ń pa idán fún ìyàlẹ́nu wọn.
And they were attentive to him, because he had for a considerable time astonished them by his magic arts.
12 Ṣùgbọ́n nígbà tí wọ́n gba Filipi gbọ́ bí ó ti ń wàásù ìyìnrere ti ìjọba Ọlọ́run, àti orúkọ Jesu Kristi, a bamitiisi wọn.
But as they believed Philip, preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women;
13 Simoni tìkára rẹ̀ sì gbàgbọ́ pẹ̀lú nígbà ti a sì bamitiisi rẹ̀, ó sì tẹ̀síwájú pẹ̀lú Filipi, ó wo iṣẹ́ àmì àti iṣẹ́ agbára tí ń ti ọwọ́ Filipi ṣe, ẹnu sì yà á.
and Simon himself also believed, and was baptized, and kept constantly with Philip: and beholding the signs and miracles that were wrought, he was amazed.
14 Nígbà tí àwọn aposteli tí ó wà ní Jerusalẹmu sí gbọ́ pé àwọn ara Samaria ti gba ọ̀rọ̀ Ọlọ́run, wọ́n rán Peteru àti Johanu sí wọn.
Now when the apostles at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent to them Peter and John:
15 Nígbà tí wọ́n sì lọ, wọ́n gbàdúrà fún wọn, kí wọn bá à lè gba Ẹ̀mí Mímọ́,
who when they were come down prayed for them that they might receive the holy Spirit: (for He was not yet fallen upon any of them,
16 nítorí títí ó fi di ìgbà náà Ẹ̀mí Mímọ́ kò tí ì bà lé ẹnikẹ́ni nínú wọn; kìkì pè a bamitiisi wọn lórúkọ Jesu Olúwa ni.
only they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus: ) and then they laid their hands on them,
17 Nígbà náà ni Peteru àti Johanu gbé ọwọ́ lé wọn, wọn sí gba Ẹ̀mí Mímọ́.
and they received the holy Spirit.
18 Nígbà tí Simoni rí i pé nípa gbígbé ọwọ́ lé ni ni a ń ti ọwọ́ àwọn aposteli fi Ẹ̀mí Mímọ́ fún ni, ó fi owó lọ̀ wọ́n,
And when Simon saw that the holy Spirit was given by the imposition of the hands of the apostles, he offered them money,
19 ó wí pé, “Ẹ fún èmi náà ni àṣẹ yìí pẹ̀lú, kí ẹnikẹ́ni tí èmi bá gbé ọwọ́ lé lè gba Ẹ̀mí Mímọ́.”
saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the holy Spirit.
20 Ṣùgbọ́n Peteru dá a lóhùn wí pé, “Kí owó rẹ ṣègbé pẹ̀lú rẹ, nítorí tí ìwọ rò láti fi owó ra ẹ̀bùn Ọlọ́run!
But Peter said unto him, Let thy money perish with thee, since thou thoughtest to purchase the gift of God with money.
21 Ìwọ kò ni ipa tàbí ìpín nínú ọ̀ràn yìí, nítorí ọkàn rẹ kò ṣe déédé níwájú Ọlọ́run.
Thou hast no part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.
22 Nítorí náà ronúpìwàdà ìwà búburú rẹ yìí, kí ó sì gbàdúrà sọ́dọ̀ Ọlọ́run bóyá yóò dárí ète ọkàn rẹ jì ọ́.
Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray to God, if so be the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee:
23 Nítorí tí mo wòye pé, ìwọ wa nínú òróǹró ìkorò, àti ní ìdè ẹ̀ṣẹ̀.”
for I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness and bond of iniquity.
24 Nígbà náà ni Simoni dáhùn, ó sì wí pé, “Ẹ gbàdúrà sọ́dọ̀ Olúwa fún mi, kí ọ̀kan nínú ohun tí ẹ̀yin tí sọ má ṣe bá mi.”
And Simon answered, and said, Do ye pray to the Lord for me, that none of the things which ye have spoken may come upon me.
25 Nígbà tí wọn sì ti jẹ́rìí, tiwọn ti sọ ọ̀rọ̀ Olúwa, Peteru àti Johanu padà lọ sí Jerusalẹmu, wọ́n sì wàásù ìyìnrere ni ìletò púpọ̀ ti àwọn ará Samaria.
And they having testified and declared the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans.
26 Angẹli Olúwa sì sọ fún Filipi pé, “Dìde kí ó sì máa lọ sí ìhà gúúsù, sí ọ̀nà ijù, tí ó ti Jerusalẹmu lọ sí Gasa.”
And an angel of the Lord spake to Philip, saying, Arise and go southward to the way that leads down from Jerusalem to Gaza, which is desert.
27 Nígbà tí ó sì dìde, ó lọ; sí kíyèsi, ọkùnrin kan ará Etiopia, ìwẹ̀fà ọlọ́lá púpọ̀ lọ́dọ̀ Kandake ọbabìnrin àwọn ara Etiopia, ẹni tí í ṣe olórí ìṣúra rẹ̀, tí ó sì ti wá sí Jerusalẹmu láti jọ́sìn,
And he arose and went; and behold a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, and her high-treasurer, who had come to Jerusalem to worship,
28 Òun sì ń padà lọ, ó sì jókòó nínú kẹ̀kẹ́ rẹ̀, ó ń ka ìwé wòlíì Isaiah.
was returning, and as he sat in his chariot, was reading the prophet Esaias:
29 Ẹ̀mí sì wí fún Filipi pé, “Lọ kí ó si da ara rẹ pọ̀ mọ́ kẹ̀kẹ́ yìí.”
and the Spirit said to Philip, Go near and join thyself to this chariot. And Philip running up to him,
30 Filipi si súré lọ, ó gbọ́ ti ó ń ka ìwé wòlíì Isaiah, Filipi sì bí i pé, “Ohun tí ìwọ ń kà yìí ha yé ọ bí?”
heard him reading the prophet Esaias, and said, Dost thou understand what thou readest?
31 Ó sì dáhùn wí pé, “Yóò ha ṣe yé mi, bí kò ṣe pé ẹnìkan tọ́ mí sí ọ̀nà?” Ó sì bẹ Filipi kí ó gòkè wá, kí ó sì bá òun jókòó.
And he said, How can I, unless some one guide me? and he desired Philip to come up and sit with him.
32 Ibi ìwé mímọ́ tí ìwẹ̀fà náà ń kà náà ni èyí: “A fà á bí àgùntàn lọ fún pípa; àti bí ọ̀dọ́-àgùntàn tí ń dákẹ́ níwájú olùrẹ́run rẹ̀, bẹ́ẹ̀ gẹ́gẹ́ ni kò wí ohun kan.
And the portion of scripture, which he was reading, was this, "He was led as a sheep to the slaughter, and as a lamb before it's shearer is dumb, so He opened not his mouth:
33 Nínú ìwà ìrẹ̀lẹ̀ rẹ̀ a fi ìdájọ́ òdodo dùn ún. Ta ni ó le sọ̀rọ̀ nípa ti àwọn ìran rẹ̀? Nítorí tí a gba ẹ̀mí rẹ̀ kúrò ní ayé.”
in his humiliation his judgement was taken away, and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken away from the earth."
34 Ìwẹ̀fà náà sì sọ fún Filipi pé, “Mo bẹ̀ ọ́ sọ fún mi, nípa ta ni wòlíì náà ń sọ ọ̀rọ̀ yìí, nípa ara rẹ̀ tàbí nípa ẹlòmíràn?”
And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom doth the prophet say this? of himself, or of some other person?
35 Filipi sí ya ẹnu rẹ̀, bẹ̀rẹ̀ láti ibi ìwé mímọ́ yìí, ó sí wàásù ìyìnrere ti Jesu fún un.
Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning at this scripture, preached unto him Jesus.
And as they went on their way, they came to a certain water: and the eunuch said, See here is water, what hindereth me from being baptized?
And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
38 Ó sì pàṣẹ kí kẹ̀kẹ́ dúró jẹ́; àwọn méjèèjì Filipi àti ìwẹ̀fà sì sọ̀kalẹ̀ lọ sínú omi, Filipi sì bamitiisi rẹ̀.
And he ordered the chariot to stop: and they both went down to the water, Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.
39 Nígbà tí wọ́n sí jáde kúrò nínú, omi Ẹ̀mí Olúwa gbé Filipi lọ, ìwẹ̀fà kò sì rí i mọ́; nítorí tí ó ń bá ọ̀nà rẹ̀ lọ, ó ń yọ̀.
And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, and the eunuch saw him no more: but went on his way rejoicing.
40 Filipi sì bá ara rẹ̀ ní ìlú Asotu, bí ó ti ń kọjá lọ, o wàásù ìyìnrere ní gbogbo ìlú, títí ó fi dé Kesarea.
But Philip was found at Azotus; and as he passed along, he preached the gospel in all the cities, till he came to Cesarea.
