< Acts 6 >

1 Ǹjẹ́ ní ọjọ́ wọ̀nyí, nígbà tí iye àwọn ọmọ-ẹ̀yìn ń pọ̀ sí i, ìkùnsínú wà ní àárín àwọn Helleni tí ṣe Júù àti àwọn Heberu tí ṣe Júù, nítorí tí a gbàgbé nípa ti àwọn opó wọn nínú ìpín fún ni ojoojúmọ́.
But, in these days, the disciples, multiplying, there arose a murmuring of the Grecian Jews against the Hebrews, in that, their widows, were being overlooked in the daily ministry.
2 Àwọn méjìlá sì pe ọ̀pọ̀lọpọ̀ àwọn ọmọ-ẹ̀yìn jọ sọ́dọ̀, wọn wí pé, “Kò yẹ kí àwa ó fi ọ̀rọ̀ Ọlọ́run sílẹ̀, kí a sì máa ṣe ìránṣẹ́ tábìlì.
And the Twelve, calling near the throng of the disciples, said—It doth not seem, right, that, we, forsaking the word of God, should be ministering unto tables.
3 Nítorí náà, ará, ẹ wo ọkùnrin méje nínú yín, olórúkọ rere, tí ó kún fún Ẹ̀mí Mímọ́ àti fún ọgbọ́n, tí àwa lè yàn sí iṣẹ́ yìí.
But look out for yourselves, brethren, seven men from among you, who can be well-attested, full of Spirit and wisdom, —whom we will appoint over this need;
4 Ṣùgbọ́n àwa yóò dúró ṣinṣin nínú àdúrà gbígbà, àti nínú iṣẹ́ ìránṣẹ́ ọ̀rọ̀ náà.”
But, we, unto prayer and unto the ministry of the word, will give constant attention.
5 Ọ̀rọ̀ náà sì tọ́ lójú gbogbo ìjọ; wọ́n sì yan Stefanu, ọkùnrin tí ó kún fún ìgbàgbọ́ àti fún Ẹ̀mí Mímọ́ àti Filipi, àti Prokoru, àti Nikanoru, àti Timoni, àti Parimena, àti Nikolasi aláwọ̀ṣe Júù ará Antioku.
And the word was pleasing in the sight of all the throng; and they selected Stephen, a man full of faith and Holy Spirit, and Philip and Prochorus and Nicanor and Timon and Parmenas and Nicholaus, a proselyte of Antioch;
6 Ẹni tí wọ́n mú dúró níwájú àwọn Aposteli; nígbà tí wọ́n sì gbàdúrà, wọ́n gbé ọwọ́ lé wọn.
Whom they set before the Apostles, and, praying, they laid upon them their hands.
7 Ọ̀rọ̀ Ọlọ́run sì gbilẹ̀, iye àwọn ọmọ-ẹ̀yìn sì pọ̀ sí i gidigidi ni Jerusalẹmu, ọ̀pọ̀ nínú ẹgbẹ́ àwọn àlùfáà sí fetí sí tí ìgbàgbọ́ náà.
And, the word of God, went on growing, and the number of the disciples in Jerusalem continued to multiply exceedingly; a great multitude of the priests also, were becoming obedient unto the faith.
8 Stefanu tí ó kún fún oore-ọ̀fẹ́ àti agbára, ó ṣe iṣẹ́ ìyanu, àti iṣẹ́ àmì ńlá láàrín àwọn ènìyàn.
Now, Stephen, full of favour and power, began to do great wonders and signs among the people.
9 Ṣùgbọ́n àwọn kan dìde nínú àwọn ti ń ṣe ara Sinagọgu, tí a ń pè ní Libataini. Àwọn Júù Kirene àti ti Alekisandiria àti ti Kilikia, àti ti Asia wá, wọ́n ń bá Stefanu jiyàn,
But there rose up certain of those out of the synagogue which is called [the synagogue] of them of Libertium and Cyrene and Alexandria, and certain of them from Cilicia and Asia, —disputing with Stephen;
10 ṣùgbọ́n wọn kò sí lè ko ọgbọ́n àti Ẹ̀mí tí ó fi ń sọ̀rọ̀ lójú.
And they could not withstand the wisdom and the Spirit with which he was speaking,
11 Nígbà náà ni wọ́n fún àwọn ọkùnrin kan ní àbẹ̀tẹ́lẹ̀, kí wọn ń wí pé, “Àwa gbọ́ tí Stefanu ń sọ ọ̀rọ̀-òdì sí Mose àti sí Ọlọ́run.”
Then, they set on men who were saying—We have heard him speaking profane things against Moses and God.
12 Wọ́n sí ru àwọn ènìyàn sókè, àti àwọn alàgbà, àti àwọn olùkọ́ni ní òfin. Wọ́n dìde sí i, wọ́n gbá a mú, wọ́n sì mú un wá sí iwájú àjọ ìgbìmọ̀.
And they stirred up the people and the elders and the scribes; and, coming upon him, they caught him away, and led him into the high-council.
13 Wọ́n sí mú àwọn ẹlẹ́rìí èké wá, tiwọn wí pé, “Ọkùnrin yìí kò sinmi láti sọ ọ̀rọ̀-òdì sí ibi mímọ́ yìí, àti sí òfin.
And they set up false witnesses, who said—This man, ceaseth not speaking things against this holy place and the law;
14 Nítorí àwa gbọ́ o wí pé Jesu ti Nasareti yìí yóò fọ́ ibí yìí, yóò sì yí àṣà ti Mose fi fún wa padà.”
For we have heard him saying—This Jesus the Nazarene, will overthrow this place, and will change the customs which, Moses, delivered unto us.
15 Gbogbo àwọn tí ó sì jókòó ni àjọ ìgbìmọ̀ tẹjúmọ́ Stefanu, wọ́n sì rí ojú rẹ̀ dàbí ojú angẹli.
And, looking steadfastly at him, all they who were sitting in the high-council, saw his face, as if the face of a messenger;
