< 3 John 1 >
1 Alàgbà, Sì Gaiusi, olùfẹ́, ẹni tí mo fẹ́ nínú òtítọ́.
The Elder to the beloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.
2 Olùfẹ́, èmi ń gbàdúrà pé nínú ohun gbogbo kí o lè máa dára fún ọ, kí o sì máa wà ni ìlera, àní bí o tí dára fún ọkàn rẹ.
I pray that you may prosper, beloved, in every way, and be in good health, even as your soul is prospering.
3 Nítorí mo yọ̀ gidigidi, nígbà tí àwọn arákùnrin dé tí wọn sì jẹ́rìí sí ìwà òtítọ́ inú rẹ̀, àní bí ìwọ tí ń rìn nínú òtítọ́.
For I was glad when brothers came and bore testimony to your truth, as indeed you are passing your life in truth.
4 Èmi ni ayọ̀ tí ó tayọ, láti máa gbọ́ pé, àwọn ọmọ mi ń rìn nínú òtítọ́.
I have no greater joy than this, to hear that my children are passing their lives in the truth.
5 Olùfẹ́, ìwọ ń ṣe olóòtítọ́ nínú iṣẹ́ tí ìwọ ń ṣe fún àwọn tí ń ṣe ará, àti pàápàá fún àwọn tí ń ṣe àlejò.
You are acting faithfully, beloved, in whatever you are doing for the brothers and the strangers.
6 Tí wọn ń jẹ́rìí sí ìfẹ́ rẹ̀ níwájú ìjọ, bí ìwọ bá ń pèsè fún wọn ní ọ̀nà àjò wọn gẹ́gẹ́ bí ó tí yẹ nínú Ọlọ́run.
They have borne testimony to your love before the church. You will do well to speed them on their way worthily of God;
7 Nítorí pé, nítorí iṣẹ́ Kristi ni wọ́n ṣe jáde lọ, láìgba ohunkóhun lọ́wọ́ àwọn aláìkọlà.
since for the sake of the Name they have started out, taking nothing from the Gentiles.
8 Nítorí náà, ó yẹ kí àwa fi inú rere gba irú àwọn wọ̀nyí, kí àwa lè jẹ́ alábáṣiṣẹ́pọ̀ pẹ̀lú òtítọ́.
Hence we ought to support such, so that we may become fellow workers for the truth.
9 Èmi kọ̀wé sí ìjọ ṣùgbọ́n Diotirefe, ẹni tí ó fẹ́ láti jẹ́ ẹni pàtàkì jùlọ, kò gbà wá.
I have written somewhat to the church; but Diotrephes, who love to take the lead among them, does not receive me.
10 Nítorí náà bí mo bá dé, èmi yóò mú iṣẹ́ rẹ̀ tí ó ṣe wá sì ìrántí rẹ, tí ó ń sọ ọ̀rọ̀ búburú àti ìsọkúsọ sí wa, èyí kò sì tún tẹ́ ẹ lọ́rùn, síbẹ̀ òun fúnra rẹ̀ kọ̀ láti gba àwọn ará, àwọn tí ó sì ń fẹ́ gbà wọ́n, ó ń dá wọn lẹ́kun, ó sì ń lé wọn kúrò nínú ìjọ.
Do them when I come I will recall to mind the deeds which he is doing, prating against me with wicked words. Not satisfied with that, he refuses to receive the brothers, forbids those that would receive them, and excommunicates them from the church.
11 Olùfẹ́, má ṣe ṣe àfarawé ohun tí í ṣe ibi bí kò ṣe ohun tí ṣe rere. Ẹni tí ó bá ń ṣe rere ti Ọlọ́run ni; ẹni tí ó ba ń ṣe búburú kò rí Ọlọ́run.
Do not imitate what is evil, beloved, but that which is good. He who does good is of God; he who does evil has never gazed on God.
12 Demetriusi ní ẹ̀rí rere lọ́dọ̀ gbogbo ènìyàn àti ní ti òtítọ́ fúnra rẹ̀ pẹ̀lú; nítòótọ́, àwa pẹ̀lú sì gba ẹ̀rí rẹ̀ jẹ́; ẹ̀yin sì mọ̀ pé, òtítọ́ ni ẹ̀rí wa.
All men bear testimony to Demetrius, and so does the truth itself. I also bear testimony to him; and you know that my testimony is true.
13 Èmí ní ohun púpọ̀ láti kọ sínú ìwé sí ọ, ṣùgbọ́n èmi kò fẹ́ fi kálàmù àti tawada kọ wọ́n sínú ìwé.
I have a great deal to write to you, but I do not want to write you with pen and ink.
14 Mo ni ìrètí láti rí ọ láìpẹ́, tí àwa yóò sì sọ̀rọ̀ lójúkojú. Àlàáfíà fún ọ. Àwọn ọ̀rẹ́ wa tó wà níbí kí ọ. Kí àwọn ọ̀rẹ́ wa tó wà lọ́dọ̀ rẹ ní ọ̀kọ̀ọ̀kan.
I am hoping soon to see you, and then we shall talk face to face. Peace be to you! The friends send their salutation. Salute the friends by name.
