< 1 Timothy 1 >

1 Paulu, aposteli Kristi Jesu gẹ́gẹ́ bí àṣẹ Ọlọ́run Olùgbàlà wa, àti Jesu Kristi ìrètí wa,
From Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the appointment of God, our Savior, and Christ Jesus, our hope.
2 Sí Timotiu ọmọ mi nínú ìgbàgbọ́: Oore-ọ̀fẹ́, àánú àti àlàáfíà láti ọ̀dọ̀ Ọlọ́run Baba àti Jesu Kristi Olúwa wa.
To Timothy, my true child in the faith: May God, the Father, and Christ Jesus, our Lord, bless you, and be merciful to you, and give you peace.
3 Bí mo ṣe rọ̀ yìn nígbà tí mò ń lọ sí Makedonia, ẹ dúró ní Efesu, kí ẹ lè dá àwọn ènìyàn kan lẹ́kun láti má ṣe kọ́ ni ní ẹ̀kọ́ èké mọ́
I beg you, as I did when I was on my way into Macedonia, to remain at Ephesus; so that you may instruct certain people there not to teach new and strange doctrines,
4 kí wọ́n má sì ṣe fiyèsí àwọn ìtàn asán, àti ìtàn ìran aláìlópin. Irú èyí máa ń mú iyàn jíjà wá dípò iṣẹ́ ìríjú Ọlọ́run èyí tí í ṣe ti ìgbàgbọ́.
nor to devote their attention to legends and interminable genealogies, which tend to give rise to argument rather than to further that divine plan which is revealed in the faith.
5 Ète àṣẹ náà ni ìfẹ́ ti ń jáde wá láti inú ọkàn mímọ́ àti ẹ̀rí ọkàn rere àti ìgbàgbọ́ àìṣẹ̀tàn.
The object of all instruction is to call forth that love which comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and a sincere faith.
6 Àwọn ẹlòmíràn ti yapa kúrò tí wọ́n sì yà sápá kan sí ọ̀rọ̀ asán.
And it is because they have not aimed at these things that the attention of certain people has been diverted to unprofitable subjects.
7 Wọ́n ń fẹ́ ṣe olùkọ́ òfin; òye ohun tí wọ́n ń wí kò yé wọn tàbí ti ohun tí wọ́n ń fi ìgboyà tẹnumọ́.
They want to be teachers of the Law, and yet do not understand either the words they use, or the subjects on which they speak so confidently.
8 Ṣùgbọ́n àwa mọ̀ pé òfin dára, bí ènìyàn bá lò ó dáradára.
We know, of course, that the Law is excellent, when used legitimately,
9 Bí a ti mọ̀ pé, a kò ṣe òfin fún olódodo, bí kò ṣe fún àwọn aláìwà-bí-Ọlọ́run àti àwọn ẹlẹ́ṣẹ̀, fún àwọn aláìmọ́ àti àwọn ẹlẹ́gàn, fún àwọn tí ń pa baba àti àwọn tí ń pa ìyá wọn àti àwọn apànìyàn,
by one who recognizes that laws were not made for good people, but for the lawless and disorderly, for irreligious and wicked people, for those who are irreverent and profane, for those who ill-treat their fathers or mothers, for murderers,
10 fún àwọn àgbèrè, fún àwọn aláyídà, fún àwọn onísòwò-ẹrú, fún àwọn èké, fún àwọn abúra èké, àti bí ohun mìíràn bá wà tí ó lòdì sí ẹ̀kọ́ tí ó yè kooro.
for the immoral, for perverts, for slave traders, for liars, for perjurers, and for whatever else is opposed to sound Christian teaching –
11 Gẹ́gẹ́ bí ìyìnrere ti ògo Ọlọ́run olùbùkún, tí a fi sí ìtọ́jú mi.
as is taught in the glorious good news of the ever-blessed God, with which I was entrusted.
12 Mo dúpẹ́ lọ́wọ́ ẹni tí ó fún mi ní agbára, àní Kristi Jesu Olúwa wa, nítorí tí ó kà mí sí olóòtítọ́ ní yíyànmí sí iṣẹ́ rẹ̀.
I am thankful to Christ Jesus, our Lord, who has been my strength, for showing that he thought me worthy of trust by appointing me to his ministry,
13 Bí mo tilẹ̀ jẹ́ asọ̀rọ̀-òdì sí Ọlọ́run rí, àti onínúnibíni àti ìkà ènìyàn, ṣùgbọ́n mo rí àánú gbà, nítorí tí mo ṣe é nínú àìmọ̀ àti àìgbàgbọ́.
though I once used to blaspheme, and to persecute, and to insult. Yet mercy was shown me, because I acted in ignorance, while still an unbeliever;
14 Oore-ọ̀fẹ́ Olúwa wa sì pọ̀ rékọjá pẹ̀lú ìgbàgbọ́ àti ìfẹ́, tí ń bẹ nínú Kristi Jesu.
and the loving kindness of our Lord was boundless, and filled me with that faith and love which come from union with Christ Jesus.
15 Òtítọ́ ni ọ̀rọ̀ náà, ó sì yẹ fún ìtẹ́wọ́gbà, pé Jesu Kristi wá sí ayé láti gba ẹlẹ́ṣẹ̀ là; nínú àwọn ẹni tí èmi jẹ́ búburú jùlọ.
How true the saying is, and worthy of the fullest acceptance, that ‘Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners’! And there is no greater sinner than I!
16 Ṣùgbọ́n nítorí èyí ni mo ṣe rí àánú gbà, pé lára mi, bí olórí ẹlẹ́ṣẹ̀ ni kí Jesu Kristi fi gbogbo ìpamọ́ra rẹ̀ hàn bí àpẹẹrẹ fún àwọn tí yóò gbà á gbọ́ sí ìyè àìnípẹ̀kun ìkẹyìn. (aiōnios g166)
Yet mercy was shown me for the express purpose that Christ Jesus might exhibit in my case, beyond all others, his exhaustless patience, as an example for those who were afterward to believe on him and attain eternal life. (aiōnios g166)
17 Ǹjẹ́ fún ọba ayérayé, àìdíbàjẹ́, àìrí, Ọlọ́run kan ṣoṣo, ni ọlá àti ògo wà fún láéláé. Àmín. (aiōn g165)
To the eternal King, ever-living, invisible, the one God, be ascribed honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen. (aiōn g165)
18 Àṣẹ yìí ni mo pa fún ọ, Timotiu ọmọ mi, gẹ́gẹ́ bí ìsọtẹ́lẹ̀ wọ̀nyí tó ó ti ṣáájú nípa rẹ̀, pé nípasẹ̀ wọ́n kí ìwọ lè máa ja ìjà rere;
This, then, is the charge that I lay on you, Timothy, my child, in accordance with what was predicted of you – Fight the good fight in the spirit of those predictions,
19 máa ní ìgbàgbọ́ àti ẹ̀rí ọkàn rere. Èyí ti àwọn mìíràn ti mú kúrò lọ́dọ̀ wọn tí wọ́n sì rí ọkàn ìgbàgbọ́ wọn.
with faith, and with a clear conscience; and it is because they have thrust this aside, that, as regards the faith, some have wrecked their lives.
20 Nínú àwọn ẹni tí Himeneu àti Aleksanderu wà; àwọn tí mo ti fi lé Satani lọ́wọ́, kí a lè kọ́ wọn kí wọ́n má sọ̀rọ̀-òdì mọ́.
Hymenaeus and Alexander are instances – the men whom I delivered over to Satan so that they might be taught not to blaspheme.
