< 1 Timothy 2 >
1 Nítorí náà mo gbà yín níyànjú ṣáájú ohun gbogbo, pé kí a máa bẹ̀bẹ̀, kí a máa gbàdúrà, kí a máa ṣìpẹ̀, àti kí a máa dúpẹ́ nítorí gbogbo ènìyàn.
I exhort then, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions and thanksgivings be offered on behalf of all men;
2 Fún àwọn ọba, àti gbogbo àwọn tí ó wà ni ipò àṣẹ, kí a lè máa lo ayé wa ní àlàáfíà àti ìdákẹ́ jẹ́ẹ́ pẹ̀lú nínú gbogbo ìwà-bí-Ọlọ́run àti ìwà mímọ́.
including kings and all who are in high station, in order that we may live peaceful and tranquil lives with all godliness and gravity.
3 Nítorí èyí dára, ó sì ṣe ìtẹ́wọ́gbà níwájú Ọlọ́run Olùgbàlà wa;
This is right, and is pleasing in the sight of God our Saviour,
4 ẹni tí ó fẹ́ kí gbogbo ènìyàn ní ìgbàlà kí wọ́n sì wá sínú ìmọ̀ òtítọ́.
who is willing for all mankind to be saved and come to a full knowledge of the truth.
5 Nítorí Ọlọ́run kan ní ń bẹ, onílàjà kan pẹ̀lú láàrín Ọlọ́run àti ènìyàn, àní Kristi Jesu ọkùnrin náà.
For there is but one God and but one Mediator between God and men--Christ Jesus, Himself man;
6 Ẹni ti ó fi ara rẹ̀ ṣe ìràpadà fún gbogbo ènìyàn—ẹ̀rí tí a fi fún ni ní àkókò tó yẹ.
who gave Himself as the redemption price for all--a fact testified to at its own appointed time,
7 Nítorí èyí tí a yàn mi ṣe oníwàásù, aposteli òtítọ́ ni èmi ń sọ, èmi kò ṣèké olùkọ́ àwọn aláìkọlà nínú ìgbàgbọ́ àti òtítọ́.
and of which I have been appointed a herald and an Apostle (I am speaking the truth: it is not a fiction), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
8 Mo fẹ́ kí àwọn ọkùnrin máa gbàdúrà níbi gbogbo, kí wọ́n máa gbé ọwọ́ mímọ́ sókè, ní àìbínú àti àìjiyàn.
So then I would have the men everywhere pray, lifting to God holy hands which are unstained with anger or strife;
9 Bẹ́ẹ̀ gẹ́gẹ́ ni kí àwọn obìnrin fi aṣọ ìwọ̀ntúnwọ̀nsì ṣe ara wọn ní ọ̀ṣọ́, ní ìwọ̀ntúnwọ̀nsì àti pẹ̀lú ìwà àìrékọjá; kì í ṣe pẹ̀lú irun dídì, tàbí wúrà, tàbí peali, tàbí aṣọ olówó iyebíye,
and I would have the women dress becomingly, with modesty and self-control, not with plaited hair or gold or pearls or costly clothes,
10 bí kò ṣe pẹ̀lú iṣẹ́ rere, èyí tí ó yẹ fún àwọn obìnrin tó jẹ́wọ́ pé wọ́n sin Ọlọ́run.
but--as befits women making a claim to godliness--with the ornament of good works.
11 Jẹ́ kí obìnrin máa fi ìdákẹ́ jẹ́ẹ́ àti ìtẹríba gbogbo kọ́ ẹ̀kọ́.
A woman should quietly learn from others with entire submissiveness.
12 Ṣùgbọ́n èmi kò fi àṣẹ fún obìnrin láti máa kọ́ni, tàbí láti pàṣẹ lórí ọkùnrin, bí kò ṣe kí ó dákẹ́ jẹ́ẹ́.
I do not permit a woman to teach, nor have authority over a man, but she must remain silent.
13 Nítorí Adamu ni a kọ́ dá, lẹ́yìn náà, Efa.
For Adam was formed first, and then Eve;
14 Adamu kọ́ ni a tànjẹ, ṣùgbọ́n obìnrin náà ni a tàn tí ó sì di ẹlẹ́ṣẹ̀.
and Adam was not deceived, but his wife was thoroughly deceived, and so became involved in transgression.
15 Ṣùgbọ́n a ó gbà àwọn obìnrin là nípa ìbímọ wọn, bí wọ́n bá dúró nínú ìgbàgbọ́, ìfẹ́, àti ìwà mímọ́ pẹ̀lú ìwà àìrékọjá.
Yet a woman will be brought safely through childbirth if she and her husband continue to live in faith and love and growing holiness, with habitual self-restraint.
