< 1 Thessalonians 2 >

1 Ẹ̀yin pàápàá mọ̀ ará, pé ìbẹ̀wò wa sí i yín kì í ṣe ní asán.
You yourselves know, brothers, that our visit to you was not in vain.
2 Àwa tí jìyà, a sì fi àbùkù kàn wá ní ìlú Filipi bí ẹ̀yin ti mọ̀, ṣùgbọ́n nípa ìrànlọ́wọ́ Ọlọ́run wa ní àwa fi ìgboyà sọ ìyìnrere fún un yín pẹ̀lú àtakò líle.
As you are aware, we had already endured suffering and shameful treatment in Philippi. But in the face of strong opposition, we were bold in our God to speak to you the gospel of God.
3 Nítorí ọ̀rọ̀ ìyànjú wa kì í ṣe ti ẹ̀tàn, tàbí ti èrò àìmọ́, tàbí láti inú àrékérekè.
For our appeal does not arise from deceit or ulterior motives or trickery.
4 Ṣùgbọ́n bí a ti kà wá yẹ láti ọ̀dọ̀ Ọlọ́run, bí ẹni tí a fi ìyìnrere lé lọ́wọ́, bẹ́ẹ̀ ni àwa ń sọ, kì í ṣe bí ẹni tí ń wu ènìyàn, bí kò ṣe Ọlọ́run tí ń dán ọkàn wa wò.
Instead, we speak as those approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, not in order to please men but God, who examines our hearts.
5 A mọ̀ pé a kò lo ọ̀rọ̀ dídùn, tàbí ìbòjú ojúkòkòrò fún yín, Ọlọ́run ni ẹlẹ́rìí wa.
As you know, we never used words of flattery or any pretext for greed. God is our witness!
6 A kò béèrè ìyìn lọ́dọ̀ yín tàbí fún ara wa. Gẹ́gẹ́ bí aposteli Kristi a ò bá ti di àjàgà fún un yín.
Nor did we seek praise from you or from anyone else, although as apostles of Christ we had authority to demand it.
7 Ṣùgbọ́n àwa ṣe pẹ̀lẹ́pẹ̀lẹ́ láàrín yín tí a sì ṣe ìtọ́jú yín. Gẹ́gẹ́ bí ìyá ti ń tọ́jú àwọn ọmọ rẹ̀,
On the contrary, we were gentle among you, like a nursing mother caring for her children.
8 bẹ́ẹ̀ gẹ́gẹ́ bí àwa ti ní ìfẹ́ inú rere sí yín, inú wa dùn jọjọ láti fún yín, kì í ṣe ìyìnrere Ọlọ́run nìkan, ṣùgbọ́n ẹ̀mí àwa fúnra wa pẹ̀lú, nítorí ẹ̀yín jẹ́ ẹni ọ̀wọ́n fún wa.
We cared so deeply that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God, but our own lives as well. That is how beloved you have become to us.
9 Nítòótọ́ ẹ rántí, ará, iṣẹ́ àti làálàá wa; lọ́sàn án àti lóru ni àwa ń ṣiṣẹ́ kí ìnáwó wa má bà á di ìṣòro fún ẹnikẹ́ni bí a ti ń wàásù ìyìnrere Ọlọ́run fún un yín.
Surely you recall, brothers, our labor and toil. We worked night and day so that we would not be a burden to anyone while we proclaimed to you the gospel of God.
10 Ẹ̀yin ni ẹlẹ́rìí wà, bẹ́ẹ̀ náà sì ni Ọlọ́run pẹ̀lú, bí a ṣe gbé ìgbé ayé mímọ́, òdodo àti àìlẹ́gàn láàrín ẹ̀yin tí ó gbàgbọ́.
You are witnesses, and so is God, of how holy, righteous, and blameless our conduct was among you who believed.
11 Gẹ́gẹ́ bí ẹ̀yin sì ti mọ̀ bí àwa tí ń ba olúkúlùkù yín lò gẹ́gẹ́ bí baba ti ń bá àwọn ọmọ rẹ̀ sọ̀rọ̀
For you know that we treated each of you as a father treats his own children—
12 ìyànjú, ìtùnú àti tí a ń bẹ̀ yín láti gbé ìgbésí ayé tí ó ṣe ìtẹ́wọ́gbà lọ́dọ̀ Ọlọ́run, ẹni tí ó ń pè yín sínú ìjọba àti ògo òun tìkára rẹ̀.
encouraging you, comforting you, and urging you to walk in a manner worthy of God, who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.
13 Àwa ń dúpẹ́ lọ́wọ́ Ọlọ́run ní gbogbo ìgbà nítorí pé, ẹ kò ka ọ̀rọ̀ ìwàásù wa sí ọ̀rọ̀ ti ara wa. Pẹ̀lú ayọ̀ ni ẹ gba ọ̀rọ̀ Ọlọ́run tí a wí gẹ́gẹ́ bí ọ̀rọ̀ Ọlọ́run, òtítọ́ sì ni pé, ọ̀rọ̀ Ọlọ́run ni, èyí tí ó ń ṣiṣẹ́ nínú ẹ̀yin tí ó gbàgbọ́.
And we continually thank God because, when you received the word of God that you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as the true word of God—the word which is now at work in you who believe.
14 Nítorí, ẹ̀yin ara, ẹ jẹ́ àwòkọ́ṣe àwọn ìjọ Ọlọ́run tí o wà ní Judea nínú Kristi Jesu. Nítorí pé ẹ̀yin pẹ̀lú jìyà irú ohun kan náà lọ́wọ́ àwọn ará ìlú yín, gẹ́gẹ́ bí àwọn pẹ̀lú ti jìyà lọ́wọ́ àwọn Júù,
For you, brothers, became imitators of the churches of God in Judea that are in Christ Jesus. You suffered from your own countrymen the very things they suffered from the Jews,
15 àwọn tí wọ́n pa Jesu Olúwa àti àwọn wòlíì, tí wọ́n sì tì wa jáde. Wọn kò ṣe èyí tí ó wu Ọlọ́run, wọ́n sì ṣe lòdì sí gbogbo ènìyàn
who killed both the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, and drove us out as well. They are displeasing to God and hostile to all men,
16 nínú ìgbìyànjú wọn láti dá ìwàásù ìyìnrere dúró láàrín àwọn aláìkọlà kí wọn kí ó lè rí gbàlà. Ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ wọn ń di púpọ̀ sí i lójoojúmọ́. Ṣùgbọ́n ní ìkẹyìn, ìbínú Ọlọ́run ti wá sórí wọn ní ìgbẹ̀yìn.
hindering us from telling the Gentiles how they may be saved. As a result, they continue to heap up their sins to full capacity; the utmost wrath has come upon them.
17 Ẹ̀yin ará olùfẹ́, lẹ́yìn ìgbà tí a ti kúrò lọ́dọ̀ yín fún ìgbà díẹ̀ (nínú ara, kì í ṣe ọkàn), pẹ̀lú ọ̀pọ̀lọpọ̀ ìtara ni àwa ṣe àníyàn tí a sì fẹ́ gidigidi láti fi rí i yín.
Brothers, although we were torn away from you for a short time (in person, not in heart), our desire to see you face to face was even more intense.
18 Nítorí àwa fẹ́ wá sí ọ̀dọ̀ yín—àní èmi, Paulu, gbìyànjú ní ọ̀pọ̀ ìgbà láti wá, ṣùgbọ́n èṣù ú dè wá lọ́nà.
For we wanted to come to you—indeed I, Paul, tried again and again—but Satan obstructed us.
19 Kí ni ìrètí wa, ayọ̀ wa, tàbí adé wa nínú èyí tí a ó ṣògo níwájú Jesu Olúwa nígbà tí òun bá dé? Ṣé ẹ̀yin kọ́ ni?
After all, who is our hope, our joy, our crown of boasting, if it is not you yourselves in the presence of our Lord Jesus at His coming?
20 Nítòótọ́, ẹ̀yin ni ògo àti ayọ̀ wa.
You are indeed our glory and our joy.
