< 1 Samuel 4 >
1 Ọ̀rọ̀ Samuẹli tọ gbogbo àwọn ọmọ Israẹli wá. Nísinsin yìí àwọn ọmọ Israẹli jáde láti lọ bá àwọn Filistini jà. Àwọn ọmọ Israẹli sì pàgọ́ sí Ebeneseri àti àwọn Filistini ní Afeki.
And Samuel's words came to all Israel. And Eli grew very old, and his sons kept advancing in their wicked behavior before the LORD. And it came to pass in those days that the Philistines gathered themselves together against Israel. And Israel went out to meet them in battle, and camped beside Ebenezer, and the Philistines camped in Aphek.
2 Àwọn Filistini mú ogun wọn sọ̀kalẹ̀ láti pàdé Israẹli, nígbà tí ogun náà bẹ̀rẹ̀, àwọn Filistini ṣẹ́gun Israẹli wọ́n pa ẹgbàajì ọkùnrin nínú ogun náà.
The Philistines put themselves in array against Israel: and when they joined battle, Israel was struck before the Philistines; and they killed of the army in the field about four thousand men.
3 Nígbà tí àwọn ọmọ-ogun náà padà sí ibùdó, àwọn àgbàgbà Israẹli sì béèrè pé, “Èéṣe ti Olúwa fi mú kí àwọn Filistini ṣẹ́gun wa lónìí? Ẹ jẹ́ kí a gbé àpótí ẹ̀rí Olúwa láti Ṣilo wá, kí ó ba à le lọ pẹ̀lú wa kí ó sì gbà wá là kúrò lọ́wọ́ àwọn ọ̀tá wa.”
When the people had come into the camp, the elders of Israel said, "Why has the LORD struck us today before the Philistines? Let us get the ark of the LORD out of Shiloh to us, that it may come among us, and save us out of the hand of our enemies."
4 Nítorí náà a rán àwọn ènìyàn lọ sí Ṣilo, wọ́n sì gbé àpótí ẹ̀rí Olúwa àwọn ọmọ-ogun wá, ẹni tí ń wà láàrín àwọn Kérúbù àti àwọn ọmọ Eli méjèèjì Hofini àti Finehasi wà níbẹ̀ pẹ̀lú àpótí ẹ̀rí Ọlọ́run.
So the people sent to Shiloh; and they brought from there the ark of the LORD, who sits above the cherubim: and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of God.
5 Nígbà tí àpótí ẹ̀rí Olúwa wá sí ibùdó, gbogbo àwọn ọmọ Israẹli sì dìde láti kígbe tó bẹ́ẹ̀ tí ilẹ̀ sì mì tìtì.
When the ark of the LORD came into the camp, all Israel shouted with a great shout, so that the earth rang again.
6 Ní ìgbà tí àwọn Filistini gbọ́ ariwo náà wọ́n béèrè pé, “Kí ni gbogbo ariwo yìí ní ibùdó Heberu?” Nígbà tí wọ́n mọ̀ wí pé àpótí ẹ̀rí Olúwa ti wá sí ibùdó,
When the Philistines heard the noise of the shout, they said, "What does the noise of this great shout in the camp of the Hebrews mean?" They understood that the ark of the LORD had come into the camp.
7 àwọn Filistini sì bẹ̀rù pé, Ọlọ́run kékeré ti wọ ibùdó, wọ́n wí pé, “A wọ wàhálà, irú èyí kò tí ì ṣẹlẹ̀ rí.
The Philistines were afraid, for they said, "Gods have come into the camp." They said, "Woe to us. For there has not been such a thing before.
8 Àwa gbé! Ta ni yóò gbà wá kúrò lọ́wọ́ Ọlọ́run alágbára yìí? Àwọn ni Ọlọ́run tí ó fi ìpọ́njú pa àwọn ará Ejibiti pẹ̀lú gbogbo àjàkálẹ̀-ààrùn ní aginjù.
Woe to us. Who shall deliver us out of the hand of these mighty gods? These are the gods that struck the Egyptians with all kinds of plagues in the wilderness.
9 Ẹ jẹ́ alágbára Filistini, ẹ ṣe bí ọkùnrin, bí bẹ́ẹ̀ kọ́, ẹ̀yin yóò di ẹrú àwọn Heberu, bí wọ́n ti jẹ́ sí i yín. Ẹ jẹ́ alágbára ọkùnrin, kí ẹ sì jagun!”
Be strong, and behave like men, O you Philistines, that you not be servants to the Hebrews, as they have been to you. Strengthen yourselves like men, and fight."
10 Nígbà náà àwọn Filistini jà, wọ́n sì ṣẹ́gun àwọn Israẹli olúkúlùkù sì sá padà sínú àgọ́ rẹ̀, wọ́n pa ọ̀pọ̀ ènìyàn, àwọn ará Israẹli tí ó kú sí ogun sì jẹ́ ẹgbàá mẹ́ẹ̀ẹ́dógún àwọn ọmọ-ogun orí ilẹ̀.
So they fought, and Israel was defeated, and they fled every man to his tent. And there was a very great slaughter, for there fell of Israel thirty thousand footmen.
11 Wọ́n gba àpótí ẹ̀rí Olúwa, àwọn ọmọkùnrin Eli méjèèjì sì kú, Hofini àti Finehasi.
The ark of God was taken; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were slain.
12 Lọ́jọ́ kan náà tí ará Benjamini kan sá wá láti ojú ogun tí ó sì lọ sí Ṣilo, aṣọ rẹ̀ sì fàya pẹ̀lú eruku lórí rẹ̀.
There ran a man of Benjamin out of the army, and came to Shiloh the same day, with his clothes torn, and with earth on his head.
13 Nígbà tí ó sì dé, Eli sì jókòó sórí àga rẹ̀ ní ẹ̀gbẹ́ ọ̀nà, ó ń wò, ọkàn rẹ̀ kò balẹ̀ nítorí àpótí ẹ̀rí Olúwa. Nígbà tí ọkùnrin náà wọ ìlú tí ó sì sọ ohun tí ó ṣẹlẹ̀, gbogbo ìlú bẹ̀rẹ̀ sí sọkún.
When he came, look, Eli was sitting on his seat by the side of the gate watching the road, for his heart trembled for the ark of God. When the man came into the city, and told it, all the city cried out.
14 Eli gbọ́ ìró ohùn ẹkún náà ó sì béèrè pé, “Kí ni ìtumọ̀ ariwo yìí?” Ọkùnrin náà sì sáré tọ Eli wá
When Eli heard the noise of the crying, he said, "What does the noise of this tumult mean?" The man hurried, and came and told Eli.
15 Eli sì di ẹni méjìdínlọ́gọ́run ọdún, tí ojú rẹ̀ di bàìbàì, kò sì ríran mọ́.
Now Eli was ninety-eight years old; and his eyes were set, so that he could not see.
16 Ọkùnrin náà sọ fún Eli, “Mo ṣẹ̀ṣẹ̀ dé láti ibi ogun náà ni: mo sá láti ibi ogun náà wá lónìí.” Eli sì béèrè pé, “Kí ni ó ṣẹlẹ̀ ọmọ mi?”
The man said to Eli, "I am he who came out of the army, and I fled today out of the army." He said, "How did the matter go, my son?"
17 Ọkùnrin tí ó mú ìròyìn náà wá dáhùn pé, “Israẹli sá níwájú àwọn Filistini, ìṣubú àwọn ọmọ-ogun náà sì pọ̀ lọ́pọ̀lọ́pọ̀ pẹ̀lú àwọn ọmọ rẹ méjèèjì, Hofini àti Finehasi, wọ́n kú, wọ́n sì ti gba àpótí ẹ̀rí Olúwa lọ.”
He who brought the news answered, "Israel has fled before the Philistines, and there has been also a great slaughter among the people. Your two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God has been captured."
18 Nígbà tí ó dárúkọ àpótí ẹ̀rí Olúwa, Eli sì ṣubú sẹ́yìn kúrò lórí àga ní ẹ̀gbẹ́ bodè, ọrùn rẹ̀ ṣẹ́, ó sì kú, nítorí tí ó jẹ́ arúgbó ọkùnrin, ó sì tóbi, ó ti darí àwọn Israẹli fún ogójì ọdún.
It happened, when he made mention of the ark of God, that Eli fell from off his seat backward by the side of the gate; and his neck broke, and he died; for he was an old man, and heavy. He had judged Israel forty years.
19 Aya ọmọ rẹ̀, ìyàwó Finehasi, ó lóyún ó súnmọ́ àkókò àti bí. Nígbà tí ó gbọ́ ìròyìn náà wí pé wọ́n ti gba àpótí ẹ̀rí Olúwa lọ àti wí pé baba ọkọ rẹ̀ àti ọkọ rẹ̀ ti kú, ó rọbí ó sì bímọ, ó sì borí ìrora ìrọbí náà.
His daughter-in-law, Phinehas' wife, was with child, near to be delivered. When she heard the news that the ark of God was taken, and that her father-in-law and her husband were dead, she bowed herself and gave birth; for her pains came on her.
20 Bí ó ti ń kú lọ, obìnrin tí ó dúró tì í wí pé, “Má ṣe bẹ̀rù; nítorí o ti bí ọmọ ọkùnrin.” Ṣùgbọ́n kò sọ̀rọ̀ tàbí kọ ibi ara sí i.
When her time came, she was abount to die, and the women who stood by her said to her, "Do not be afraid; for you have given birth to a son." But she did not answer, neither did she regard it.
21 Ó sì pe ọmọ náà ní Ikabodu, wí pé, “Kò sí ògo fún Israẹli mọ́,” nítorí tí wọ́n ti gba àpótí ẹ̀rí Ọlọ́run àti ikú baba ọkọ rẹ̀ àti ti ọkọ rẹ̀.
And she named the boy Ichabod, because of the ark of God, and because of her father-in-law and her husband.
22 Ó si wí pé, “Ògo kò sí fún Israẹli mọ́, nítorí ti a ti gbá àpótí Ọlọ́run.”
She said, "The glory has departed from Israel, for the ark of God has been captured."
