< 1 Samuel 31 >

1 Nísinsin yìí, àwọn ará Filistini dojú ìjà kọ Israẹli, àwọn ará Israẹli sì sálọ kúrò níwájú wọn, a sì pa ọ̀pọ̀ wọn sí orí òkè Gilboa.
Now the Philistines were fighting against Israel: and the men of Israel went in flight before the Philistines, falling down wounded in Mount Gilboa.
2 Àwọn Filistini sì ń lépa Saulu àti àwọn ọmọ rẹ̀ kíkan; àwọn Filistini sì pa Jonatani àti Abinadabu, àti Malikiṣua, àwọn ọmọ Saulu.
And the Philistines overtook Saul and his sons; and they put to death Jonathan and Abinadab and Malchi-shua, the sons of Saul.
3 Ìjà náà sì burú fún Saulu gidigidi, àwọn tafàtafà si ta á ní ọfà, o sì fi ara pa púpọ̀ lọ́wọ́ àwọn tafàtafà.
And the fight was going badly for Saul, and the archers came across him, and he was wounded by the archers.
4 Saulu sì wí fún ẹni tí ó ru ìhámọ́ra rẹ̀ pé, “Fa idà rẹ yọ, kí ìwọ sì fi gún mi, kí àwọn aláìkọlà wọ̀nyí má ba à wá gún mi, àti kí wọn kí ó má bá à fi mí ṣe ẹlẹ́yà.” Ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ó rú ẹ̀rù ìhámọ́ra rẹ̀ kò fẹ́ ṣe bẹ́ẹ̀, nítorí pé ẹ̀rù bà á gidigidi. Nígbà náà ni Saulu mú idà, ó sì ṣubú lù ú.
Then Saul said to the servant who had the care of his arms, Take out your sword and put it through me, before these men without circumcision come and make sport of me. But his servant, full of fear, would not do so. Then Saul took out his sword, and falling on it, put an end to himself.
5 Nígbà tí ẹni tí ó ru ìhámọ́ra rẹ̀ si rí i pé Saulu kú, òun náà sì fi idà rẹ̀ pa ara rẹ̀, ó sì kú pẹ̀lú rẹ̀.
And when his servant saw that Saul was dead, he did the same, and was united with him in death.
6 Saulu sì kú, àti àwọn ọmọ rẹ̀ mẹ́ta, àti ẹni tí ó ru ìhámọ́ra rẹ̀, àti gbogbo àwọn ọmọkùnrin rẹ̀ ní ọjọ́ kan náà.
So death overtook Saul and his three sons and his servant on the same day.
7 Nígbà ti àwọn ọkùnrin Israẹli tí ó wà lápá kejì àfonífojì náà, àti àwọn ẹni tí ó wà lápá kejì Jordani, rí pé àwọn ọkùnrin Israẹli sá, àti pé Saulu àti àwọn ọmọkùnrin rẹ ti kú, wọ́n sì fi ìlú sílẹ̀, wọ́n sì sá, àwọn Filistini sì wá, wọ́n sì jókòó si ìlú wọn.
And when the men of Israel across the valley and on the other side of Jordan saw that the army of Israel was in flight and that Saul and his sons were dead, they came out of their towns and went in flight; and the Philistines came and took them for themselves.
8 Ní ọjọ́ kejì, nígbà tí àwọn Filistini dé láti bọ́ nǹkan tí ń bẹ lára àwọn tí ó kù, wọ́n sì rí pé, Saulu àti àwọn ọmọ rẹ̀ mẹ́ta ṣubú ni òkè Gilboa.
Now on the day after, when the Philistines came to take their goods from the dead, they saw Saul and his three sons dead on the earth in Mount Gilboa.
9 Wọ́n sì gé orí rẹ̀, wọ́n sì bọ ìhámọ́ra rẹ̀, wọ́n sì ránṣẹ́ lọ ilẹ̀ Filistini káàkiri, láti máa sọ ọ́ ní gbangba ni ilé òrìṣà wọn, àti láàrín àwọn ènìyàn.
And cutting off his head and taking away his war-dress, they sent word into the land of the Philistines round about, to take the news to their gods and to the people.
10 Wọ́n sì fi ìhámọ́ra rẹ̀ sí ilé Aṣtoreti: wọ́n sì kan òkú rẹ̀ mọ́ odi Beti-Ṣani.
His war-dress they put in the house of Astarte; and his body was fixed on the wall of Beth-shan.
11 Nígbà tí àwọn ará Jabesi Gileadi sì gbọ́ èyí tí àwọn Filistini ṣe sí Saulu.
And when the people of Jabesh-gilead had news of what the Philistines had done to Saul,
12 Gbogbo àwọn ọkùnrin alágbára sì dìde, wọ́n sì fi gbogbo òru náà rìn, wọ́n sì gbé òkú Saulu, àti òkú àwọn ọmọ bíbí rẹ̀ kúrò lára odi Beti-Ṣani, wọ́n sì wá sí Jabesi, wọ́n sì sun wọ́n níbẹ̀.
All the fighting men got up and, travelling all night, took Saul's body and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-shan; and they came to Jabesh and had them burned there.
13 Wọ́n sì kó egungun wọn, wọ́n sì sin wọ́n lábẹ́ igi tamariski ní Jabesi, wọ́n sì gbààwẹ̀ ní ọjọ́ méje.
And their bones they put in the earth under a tree in Jabesh; and for seven days they took no food.
