< 1 Samuel 17 >
1 Filistini kó àwọn ọmọ-ogun rẹ̀ jọ fún ogun ní Soko ti Juda. Wọ́n pàgọ́ sí Efesi-Damimu, láàrín Soko àti Aseka,
Now the Philistines gathered together their armies to battle, and were gathered together at Shochoh, which belongeth to Judah, and pitched between Shochoh and Azekah, in Ephes–dammim.
2 Saulu àti àwọn ọmọ Israẹli wọ́n kò ara wọ́n jọ pọ̀, wọ́n sì pàgọ́ ní àfonífojì Ela, wọ́n sì gbé ogun wọn sókè ní ọ̀nà láti pàdé àwọn Filistini.
And Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together, and pitched by the valley of Elah, and set the battle in array against the Philistines.
3 Àwọn Filistini sì wà ní orí òkè kan àwọn ọmọ Israẹli sì wà ní orí òkè mìíràn, àfonífojì sì wà láàrín wọn.
And the Philistines stood on a mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on a mountain on the other side: and there was a valley between them.
4 Ọ̀gágun tí a ń pè ní Goliati, tí ó jẹ́ ará Gati, ó wá láti ibùdó Filistini. Ó ga ní ìgbọ̀nwọ́ mẹ́fà àti ìnà ìka kan ní ìbú.
And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.
5 Ó ní àṣíborí idẹ ní orí rẹ̀, ó sì wọ ẹ̀wù tí a fi idẹ pẹlẹbẹ ṣe, ìwọ̀n ẹ̀wù náà sì jẹ́ ẹgbẹ̀rún márùn-ún ṣékélì idẹ.
And he had an helmet of brass upon his head, and he was armed with a coat of mail; and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of brass.
6 Òun sì wọ ìhámọ́ra idẹ sí ẹsẹ̀ rẹ̀ àti àpáta idẹ kan láàrín ẹ̀yìn rẹ̀.
And he had greaves of brass upon his legs, and a target of brass between his shoulders.
7 Ọ̀pá ọ̀kọ̀ rẹ̀ rí bí apásá ìhunṣọ, orí ọ̀kọ̀ rẹ̀ sì wọn ẹgbẹ̀ta kilogiramu méje irin, ẹni tí ó ru asà ogun rẹ̀ lọ ṣáájú u rẹ̀.
And the staff of his spear was like a weaver’s beam; and his spear’s head weighed six hundred shekels of iron: and one bearing a shield went before him.
8 Goliati dìde, ó sì kígbe sí ogun Israẹli pé, “Èéṣe tí ẹ̀yin fi jáde wá, tí ẹ ṣe tò fún ogun? Ṣé èmi kì í ṣe Filistini ni, àbí ẹ̀yin kì í ṣe ìránṣẹ́ Saulu? Yan ọkùnrin kan kí o sì jẹ́ kí ó sọ̀kalẹ̀ wá sí ọ̀dọ̀ mi.
And he stood and cried unto the armies of Israel, and said unto them, Why are ye come out to set your battle in array? am not I a Philistine, and ye servants to Saul? choose you a man for you, and let him come down to me.
9 Tí òhun bá sì le jà tí ó sì pa mí, àwa yóò di ẹrú u yín, ṣùgbọ́n tí èmi bá lè ṣẹ́gun rẹ̀ tí mo sì pa á, ẹ̀yin yóò di ẹrú u wa, ẹ̀yin yóò sì máa sìn wá.”
If he be able to fight with me, and to kill me, then will we be your servants: but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then shall ye be our servants, and serve us.
10 Nígbà náà Filistini náà wí pé, “Èmi fi ìjà lọ ogun Israẹli ní òní! Ẹ mú ọkùnrin kan wá kí ẹ sì jẹ́ kí a bá ara wa jà.”
And the Philistine said, I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together.
11 Nígbà tí Saulu àti gbogbo àwọn ọmọ Israẹli gbọ́ ọ̀rọ̀ Filistini, ìdààmú bá wọn.
When Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid.
12 Nísinsin yìí Dafidi jẹ́ ọmọ ará Efrata kan tí orúkọ rẹ̀ ń jẹ́ Jese, tí ó wá láti Bẹtilẹhẹmu ní Juda, Jese ní ọmọ mẹ́jọ, ní àsìkò Saulu ó ti darúgbó ẹni ọdún púpọ̀.
Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Beth–lehem–judah, whose name was Jesse; and he had eight sons: and the man went among men for an old man in the days of Saul.
13 Àwọn ọmọ Jese mẹ́tẹ̀ẹ̀ta tí ó ti dàgbà bá Saulu lọ sí ojú ogun, èyí àkọ́bí ni Eliabu, èyí èkejì ni Abinadabu, èyí ẹ̀kẹta sì ní Ṣamma.
And the three eldest sons of Jesse went and followed Saul to the battle: and the names of his three sons that went to the battle were Eliab the firstborn, and next unto him Abinadab, and the third Shammah.
14 Dafidi ni ó kéré jù nínú wọn. Àwọn àgbà mẹ́tẹ̀ẹ̀ta sì tẹ̀lé Saulu,
And David was the youngest: and the three eldest followed Saul.
15 ṣùgbọ́n Dafidi padà lẹ́yìn Saulu, láti máa tọ́jú àgùntàn baba rẹ̀ ní Bẹtilẹhẹmu.
But David went and returned from Saul to feed his father’s sheep at Beth–lehem.
16 Fún ogójì ọjọ́, Filistini wá síwájú ní àràárọ̀ àti ní ìrọ̀lẹ́ wọ́n sì fi ara wọn hàn.
And the Philistine drew near morning and evening, and presented himself forty days.
17 Nísinsin yìí Jese wí fún ọmọ rẹ̀ Dafidi pé, “Mú ìwọ̀n efa àti àgbàdo yíyan àti ìṣù àkàrà mẹ́wàá lọ fún àwọn ẹ̀gbọ́n rẹ kí o sì súré lọ sí ibùdó o wọn.
And Jesse said unto David his son, Take now for thy brethren an ephah of this parched grain, and these ten loaves, and run to the camp to thy brethren;
18 Kí o sì mú wàrà mẹ́wàá yìí lọ́wọ́ fún adarí ogun tiwọn. Wo bí àwọn ẹ̀gbọ́n rẹ ṣe wà kí o sì padà wá fún mi ní àmì ìdánilójú láti ọ̀dọ̀ wọn.
And carry these ten cheeses unto the captain of their thousand, and look how thy brethren fare, and take their pledge.
19 Wọ́n wà pẹ̀lú Saulu àti gbogbo àwọn ọkùnrin Israẹli ní àfonífojì Ela, wọ́n bá àwọn Filistini jà.”
Now Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel, were in the valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.
20 Ní àárọ̀ kùtùkùtù Dafidi fi agbo ẹran rẹ̀ sílẹ̀ pẹ̀lú àwọn olùtọ́jú, ó di ẹrù, ó sì mú ọ̀nà rẹ̀ pọ̀n gẹ́gẹ́ bí Jese ti sọ fún un. Ó dé ibùdó bí àwọn ọmọ-ogun ti ń lọ láti dúró ní ipò wọn ní ojú ogun, wọ́n hó ìhó ogun.
And David rose up early in the morning, and left the sheep with a keeper, and took, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the trench, as the army was going forth to the fight, and shouted for the battle.
21 Israẹli àti Filistini lọ sí ojú ìjà wọ́n da ojú ìjà kọ ara wọn.
For Israel and the Philistines had put the battle in array, army against army.
22 Dafidi sì kó ẹrù rẹ̀ ti àwọn olùtọ́jú ohun èlò, ó sì sálọ sí ojú ogun ó sì kí àwọn ẹ̀gbọ́n rẹ̀.
And David left his carriage in the hand of the keeper of the carriage, and ran into the army, and came and saluted his brethren.
23 Bí ó ṣe ń bá wọn sọ̀rọ̀, Goliati akíkanjú Filistini tí ó wá láti Gati bọ́ sí iwájú ní ojú ogun, ó sì kígbe fún ìpèníjà, Dafidi sì gbọ́.
And as he talked with them, behold, there came up the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, out of the armies of the Philistines, and spake according to the same words: and David heard them.
24 Nígbà tí àwọn Israẹli rí ọkùnrin náà, gbogbo wọn sì sá fún un ní ìbẹ̀rù bojo.
And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him, and were sore afraid.
25 Nígbà náà ni àwọn ọkùnrin Israẹli wí pé, “Ǹjẹ́ ẹ̀yin kò rí i bí ọkùnrin yìí ṣe ń jáde wá? Ó jáde wá láti pe Israẹli níjà. Ọba yóò fún ọkùnrin tí ó bá pa á ní ọrọ̀ púpọ̀. Yóò tún fi ọmọ rẹ̀ obìnrin fún un ní ìyàwó, yóò sì sọ ilé e baba rẹ̀ di òmìnira kúrò nínú sísan owó orí ní Israẹli.”
And the men of Israel said, Have ye seen this man that is come up? surely to defy Israel is he come up: and it shall be, that the man who killeth him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father’s house free in Israel.
26 Dafidi béèrè lọ́wọ́ ọkùnrin tí ó dúró ní ẹ̀gbẹ́ ẹ rẹ̀ pé, “Kí ni a yóò ṣe fún ọkùnrin náà tí ó bá pa Filistini yìí, tí ó sì mú ẹ̀gàn kúrò lára Israẹli? Ta ni aláìkọlà Filistini tí ó jẹ́ wí pé yóò máa gan ogun Ọlọ́run alààyè?”
And David spake to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?
27 Wọ́n tún sọ fún un ohun tí wọ́n ti ń sọ, wọ́n sì wí pé, “Èyí ni ohun tí wọn yóò ṣe fún ọkùnrin tí ó bá pa á.”
And the people answered him after this manner, saying, So shall it be done to the man that killeth him.
28 Nígbà tí Eliabu ẹ̀gbọ́n Dafidi gbọ́ nígbà tí ó ń bá ọkùnrin yìí sọ̀rọ̀, ó bínú sí i, ó sì wí pé, “Kí ni ó dé tí ìwọ fi sọ̀kalẹ̀ wá síbí? Àti pé ta ni ìwọ fi àwọn àgùntàn kékeré tókù ṣọ́ ní aginjù? Èmi mọ ìgbéraga rẹ, àti búburú ọkàn rẹ: ìwọ sọ̀kalẹ̀ wá nìkan láti wòran ogun.”
And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab’s anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.
29 Dafidi wí pé, “Kí ni mo ṣe nísinsin yìí? Ǹjẹ́ mo lè sọ̀rọ̀ bí?”
And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause?
30 Ó sì yípadà sí ẹlòmíràn, ó sì ń sọ̀rọ̀ kan náà, ọkùnrin náà sì dáhùn bí ti ẹni ìṣáájú.
And he turned from him toward another, and spake after the same manner: and the people answered him again after the former manner.
31 Àwọn ènìyàn gbọ́ ohun tí Dafidi sọ wọ́n sọ fún Saulu, Saulu sì ránṣẹ́ sí i.
And when the words were heard which David spake, they rehearsed them before Saul: and he sent for him.
32 Dafidi sọ fún Saulu pé, “Kí ẹnikẹ́ni má ṣe ba ọkàn jẹ́ nítorí Filistini yìí, ìránṣẹ́ rẹ yóò lọ láti bá a jà.”
And David said to Saul, Let no man’s heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine.
33 Saulu sì wí fún Dafidi pé, “Ìwọ kò tó láti jáde lọ pàdé ogun Filistini yìí àti láti bá a jà; ọmọdé ni ìwọ, òun sì ti ń jagun láti ìgbà èwe rẹ̀ wá.”
And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.
34 Ṣùgbọ́n Dafidi sọ fún Saulu pé, “Ọmọ ọ̀dọ̀ rẹ ti ń tọ́jú agbo àgùntàn baba rẹ̀. Nígbà tí kìnnìún tàbí àmọ̀tẹ́kùn bá wá láti wá gbé àgùntàn láti inú igbó.
And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father’s sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:
35 Mo sá tẹ̀lé e, mo lù ú, mo sì gba àgùntàn náà kúrò lẹ́nu rẹ̀. Nígbà tí ó kọjú sí mi, mo fi irun rẹ̀ gbá a mú, mo sì lù ú mo sì pa á.
And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.
36 Ìránṣẹ́ rẹ ti pa kìnnìún àti àmọ̀tẹ́kùn, aláìkọlà Filistini yìí yóò jẹ́ ọ̀kan lára wọn, nítorí ó ti pe ogun Ọlọ́run alààyè ní ìjà.
Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.
37 Olúwa tí ó gbà mí kúrò lọ́wọ́ ìhàlẹ̀ kìnnìún àti ti ìhàlẹ̀ àmọ̀tẹ́kùn yóò gbà mí kúrò lọ́wọ́ Filistini yìí.” Saulu wí fún Dafidi pé, “Lọ kí Olúwa wà pẹ̀lú rẹ.”
David said moreover, Yhwh that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, And Yhwh be with thee.
38 Saulu fi aṣọ àwọ̀tẹ́lẹ̀ rẹ̀ wọ Dafidi, ó wọ̀ ọ́ ní aṣọ ìhámọ́ra ogun, ó sì fi ìbòrí idẹ kan bò ó ní orí.
And Saul armed David with his armour, and he put an helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail.
39 Dafidi si di idà rẹ̀ mọ́ àwọ̀tẹ́lẹ̀ rẹ̀ ó sì bẹ̀rẹ̀ sí ní rìn káàkiri nítorí wí pé kò mọ́ ọ lára. Ó sọ fún Saulu pé, “Èmi kò le wọ èyí lọ, kò mọ́ mi lára.” Ó sì bọ́ wọn kúrò.
And David girded his sword upon his armour, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him.
40 Nígbà náà, ó sì mú ọ̀pá rẹ̀ lọ́wọ́, ó ṣá òkúta dídán márùn-ún létí odò, ó kó wọn sí àpò olùṣọ́-àgùntàn tí ó wà lọ́wọ́ rẹ̀ pẹ̀lú kànnàkànnà, ó sì súnmọ́ Filistini náà.
And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd’s bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine.
41 Lákòókò yìí, Filistini pẹ̀lú ẹni tí ń gbé ìhámọ́ra ààbò wà níwájú rẹ̀, ó ń bọ̀ wá sọ́dọ̀ Dafidi.
And the Philistine came on and drew near unto David; and the man that bare the shield went before him.
42 Nígbà tí Filistini náà sì wo Dafidi láti òkè délẹ̀, ó sì rí i wí pé ọmọ kékeré kùnrin ni, ó pọ́n ó sì lẹ́wà lójú, ó sì kẹ́gàn an rẹ̀.
And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance.
43 Ó sì wí fún Dafidi pé, “Ṣé ajá ni mí ni? Tí o fi tọ̀ mí wá pẹ̀lú ọ̀pá?” Filistini sì fi Dafidi bú pẹ̀lú Ọlọ́run rẹ̀.
And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
44 Filistini náà sì wí Dafidi pé, “Wá níbí, èmi yóò fi ẹran-ara rẹ fún àwọn ẹyẹ ojú ọ̀run jẹ àti fún àwọn ẹranko tí ó wà nínú igbó!”
And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.
45 Dafidi sì wí fún Filistini pé, “Ìwọ dojú ìjà kọ mí pẹ̀lú idà, ọ̀kọ̀ àti ọfà, ṣùgbọ́n èmi wá sí ọ̀dọ̀ rẹ pẹ̀lú orúkọ Olúwa àwọn ọmọ-ogun, Ọlọ́run àwọn ọmọ-ogun Israẹli tí ìwọ tí gàn.
Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of Yhwh of Armies, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.
46 Lónìí yìí ni Olúwa yóò fi ọ́ lé mi lọ́wọ́, èmi yóò sì pa ọ́, èmi yóò sì gé orí rẹ. Lónìí èmi yóò fi òkú ogun Filistini fún ẹyẹ ojú ọ̀run àti fún ẹranko igbó, gbogbo ayé yóò sì mọ̀ pé Ọlọ́run wà ní Israẹli.
This day will Yhwh deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the army of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.
47 Gbogbo àwọn tí ó péjọ níbí ni yóò mọ̀ pé kì í ṣe nípa ọ̀kọ̀ tàbí idà ni Olúwa fi ń gbàlà; ogun náà ti Olúwa ni, yóò sì fi gbogbo yín lé ọwọ́ wa.”
And all this assembly shall know that Yhwh saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is Yhwh's, and he will give you into our hands.
48 Bí Filistini ṣe súnmọ́ iwájú láti pàdé e rẹ̀. Dafidi yára sáré sí òun náà láti pàdé e rẹ̀.
And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.
49 Dafidi ti ọwọ́ sí àpò rẹ̀, ó sì mú òkúta jáde wá ó sì fì í, ó sì jù ú sí ọ̀kọ́kán iwájú orí Filistini. Òkúta náà sì wọ̀ ọ́ níwájú orí, ó sì ṣubú ó sì dojúbolẹ̀ ní orí ilẹ̀.
And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.
50 Dafidi yọ ayọ̀ ìṣẹ́gun lórí Filistini pẹ̀lú kànnàkànnà àti òkúta, láìsí idà ní ọwọ́ rẹ̀, ó lu Filistini, ó sì pa á.
So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.
51 Dafidi sì sáré ó sì dúró lórí rẹ̀. Ó sì mú idà Filistini, ó sì fà á yọ nínú àkọ̀ ọ rẹ̀. Lẹ́yìn ìgbà tí ó ti pa á tan, ó sì gé orí rẹ̀ pẹ̀lú idà. Nígbà tí àwọn ará Filistini rí i wí pé akọni wọn ti kú, wọ́n yípadà wọ́n sì sálọ.
Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled.
52 Nígbà náà, àwọn ọkùnrin Israẹli àti ti Juda súnmọ́ iwájú pẹ̀lú ariwo, wọ́n sì lépa àwọn ará Filistini dé ẹnu ibodè Gati àti títí dé ẹnu ibodè Ekroni. Àwọn tí ó kú wà káàkiri ẹ̀gbẹ́ ọ̀nà Ṣaaraimu àti títí dé ọ̀nà Gati àti Ekroni.
And the men of Israel and of Judah arose, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, until thou come to the valley, and to the gates of Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even unto Gath, and unto Ekron.
53 Nígbà tí àwọn ọmọ Israẹli sì padà láti máa lé àwọn ará Filistini, wọ́n sì ba ibùdó wọn jẹ́.
And the children of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they spoiled their tents.
54 Dafidi gé orí Filistini ó sì gbé e wá sí Jerusalẹmu, ó sì kó àwọn ohun ìjà Filistini sínú àgọ́ tirẹ̀.
And David took the head of the Philistine, and brought it to Jerusalem; but he put his armour in his tent.
55 Bí Saulu sì ti wo Dafidi bí ó ṣe ń jáde lọ pàdé Filistini, ó wí fún Abneri, olórí àwọn ológun rẹ̀ pé, “Abneri, ọmọ ta ni ọmọdékùnrin yìí?” Abneri dáhùn pe, “Bí ọkàn rẹ̀ ti ń bẹ ní ààyè, ọba èmi kò mọ̀.”
And when Saul saw David go forth against the Philistine, he said unto Abner, the captain of the army, Abner, whose son is this youth? And Abner said, As thy soul liveth, O king, I cannot tell.
56 Ọba sì wí pé, “Wádìí ọmọ ẹni tí ọmọdékùnrin náà ń ṣe.”
And the king said, Enquire thou whose son the stripling is.
57 Kété tí ó dé láti ibi tí ó ti lọ pa Filistini, Abneri sì mú u wá síwájú Saulu, orí Filistini sì wà ní ọwọ́ Dafidi.
And as David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abner took him, and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand.
58 Saulu béèrè pé, “Ọmọdékùnrin, ọmọ ta ni ọ́?” Dafidi dáhùn pé, “Èmi ni ọmọ ìránṣẹ́ rẹ Jese ti Bẹtilẹhẹmu.”
And Saul said to him, Whose son art thou, thou young man? And David answered, I am the son of thy servant Jesse the Beth–lehemite.
