1 Filistini kó àwọn ọmọ-ogun rẹ̀ jọ fún ogun ní Soko ti Juda. Wọ́n pàgọ́ sí Efesi-Damimu, láàrín Soko àti Aseka,
And the Philistines gather their armies to battle, and gather themselves to Socchoth of Judaea, and encamp between Socchoth and Azeca Ephermen.
2 Saulu àti àwọn ọmọ Israẹli wọ́n kò ara wọ́n jọ pọ̀, wọ́n sì pàgọ́ ní àfonífojì Ela, wọ́n sì gbé ogun wọn sókè ní ọ̀nà láti pàdé àwọn Filistini.
And Saul and the men of Israel gather together, and they encamp in the valley, and set the battle in array against the Philistines.
3 Àwọn Filistini sì wà ní orí òkè kan àwọn ọmọ Israẹli sì wà ní orí òkè mìíràn, àfonífojì sì wà láàrín wọn.
And the Philistines stand on the mountain on one side, and Israel stands on the mountain on the other side, and the valley was between them.
4 Ọ̀gágun tí a ń pè ní Goliati, tí ó jẹ́ ará Gati, ó wá láti ibùdó Filistini. Ó ga ní ìgbọ̀nwọ́ mẹ́fà àti ìnà ìka kan ní ìbú.
And there went forth a mighty man out of the army of the Philistines, Goliath, by name, out of Geth, his height [was] four cubits and a span.
5 Ó ní àṣíborí idẹ ní orí rẹ̀, ó sì wọ ẹ̀wù tí a fi idẹ pẹlẹbẹ ṣe, ìwọ̀n ẹ̀wù náà sì jẹ́ ẹgbẹ̀rún márùn-ún ṣékélì idẹ.
And [he had] a helmet upon his head, and he wore a breastplate of chain armour; and the weight of his breastplate [was] five thousand shekels of brass and iron.
6 Òun sì wọ ìhámọ́ra idẹ sí ẹsẹ̀ rẹ̀ àti àpáta idẹ kan láàrín ẹ̀yìn rẹ̀.
And greaves of grass [were] upon his legs, and a brazen target [was] between his shoulders.
7 Ọ̀pá ọ̀kọ̀ rẹ̀ rí bí apásá ìhunṣọ, orí ọ̀kọ̀ rẹ̀ sì wọn ẹgbẹ̀ta kilogiramu méje irin, ẹni tí ó ru asà ogun rẹ̀ lọ ṣáájú u rẹ̀.
And the staff of his spear [was] like a weaver's beam, and the spear's head [was formed] of six hundred shekels of iron; and his armour-bearer went before him.
8 Goliati dìde, ó sì kígbe sí ogun Israẹli pé, “Èéṣe tí ẹ̀yin fi jáde wá, tí ẹ ṣe tò fún ogun? Ṣé èmi kì í ṣe Filistini ni, àbí ẹ̀yin kì í ṣe ìránṣẹ́ Saulu? Yan ọkùnrin kan kí o sì jẹ́ kí ó sọ̀kalẹ̀ wá sí ọ̀dọ̀ mi.
And he stood and cried to the army of Israel, and said to them, Why are you come forth to set yourselves in battle array against us? Am not I a Philistine, and you Hebrews of Saul? Choose for yourselves a man, and let him come down to me.
9 Tí òhun bá sì le jà tí ó sì pa mí, àwa yóò di ẹrú u yín, ṣùgbọ́n tí èmi bá lè ṣẹ́gun rẹ̀ tí mo sì pa á, ẹ̀yin yóò di ẹrú u wa, ẹ̀yin yóò sì máa sìn wá.”
And if he shall be able to fight against me, and shall strike me, then will we be your servants: but if I should prevail and strike him, you shall be our servants, and serve us.
10 Nígbà náà Filistini náà wí pé, “Èmi fi ìjà lọ ogun Israẹli ní òní! Ẹ mú ọkùnrin kan wá kí ẹ sì jẹ́ kí a bá ara wa jà.”
And the Philistine said, Behold, I have defied the armies of Israel this very day: give me a man, and we will both of us fight in single combat.
11 Nígbà tí Saulu àti gbogbo àwọn ọmọ Israẹli gbọ́ ọ̀rọ̀ Filistini, ìdààmú bá wọn.
And Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine, and they were dismayed, and greatly terrified.

[And David son of an Ephrathite said, this Eplarathite was of Bethleem Juda, and his name was Jessae, and he had eight sons. And the man passed for an old man amongst men in the days of Saul. ]
13 Àwọn ọmọ Jese mẹ́tẹ̀ẹ̀ta tí ó ti dàgbà bá Saulu lọ sí ojú ogun, èyí àkọ́bí ni Eliabu, èyí èkejì ni Abinadabu, èyí ẹ̀kẹta sì ní Ṣamma.
[And the three elder sons of Jessae went and followed Saul to the war, and the ] [names of his sons that went to the war were, Eliab his first-born, and his second Aminadab, and his third son Samma. ]
14 Dafidi ni ó kéré jù nínú wọn. Àwọn àgbà mẹ́tẹ̀ẹ̀ta sì tẹ̀lé Saulu,
[And David himself ] [was the younger son, and the three elder followed Saul. ]
15 ṣùgbọ́n Dafidi padà lẹ́yìn Saulu, láti máa tọ́jú àgùntàn baba rẹ̀ ní Bẹtilẹhẹmu.
[And David departed and returned from Saul, ] [to feed his father’s sheep in Bethleem; ]
16 Fún ogójì ọjọ́, Filistini wá síwájú ní àràárọ̀ àti ní ìrọ̀lẹ́ wọ́n sì fi ara wọn hàn.
[And the Philistine advanced morning and evening, and stood up forty days. ]

[And Jessae said to David, Take now to your brethren an ephah of this meal, and these ten loaves, and run to the camp and give them to your brothers. ]
18 Kí o sì mú wàrà mẹ́wàá yìí lọ́wọ́ fún adarí ogun tiwọn. Wo bí àwọn ẹ̀gbọ́n rẹ ṣe wà kí o sì padà wá fún mi ní àmì ìdánilójú láti ọ̀dọ̀ wọn.
[And you shall carry to the captain of the thousand ] [these ten cheeses of milk, and you shall see how your brethren fare, and learn what they lack. ]
19 Wọ́n wà pẹ̀lú Saulu àti gbogbo àwọn ọkùnrin Israẹli ní àfonífojì Ela, wọ́n bá àwọn Filistini jà.”
[And Saul himself and all the men of Israel were in the valley of the Oak, warring with the Philistines. ]
20 Ní àárọ̀ kùtùkùtù Dafidi fi agbo ẹran rẹ̀ sílẹ̀ pẹ̀lú àwọn olùtọ́jú, ó di ẹrù, ó sì mú ọ̀nà rẹ̀ pọ̀n gẹ́gẹ́ bí Jese ti sọ fún un. Ó dé ibùdó bí àwọn ọmọ-ogun ti ń lọ láti dúró ní ipò wọn ní ojú ogun, wọ́n hó ìhó ogun.
[And David rose early in the morning, and left the sheep to a keeper, and took and went as Jessae commanded him, and he came to the trench and to the army as it was going out to fight, and they shouted for the battle. ]
21 Israẹli àti Filistini lọ sí ojú ìjà wọ́n da ojú ìjà kọ ara wọn.
[And Israel and the Philistines formed their lines one opposite the other. ]
22 Dafidi sì kó ẹrù rẹ̀ ti àwọn olùtọ́jú ohun èlò, ó sì sálọ sí ojú ogun ó sì kí àwọn ẹ̀gbọ́n rẹ̀.
[And David deposited his burden in the hand of a keeper, and ran to the line, and went and asked his brethren how they Were. ]
23 Bí ó ṣe ń bá wọn sọ̀rọ̀, Goliati akíkanjú Filistini tí ó wá láti Gati bọ́ sí iwájú ní ojú ogun, ó sì kígbe fún ìpèníjà, Dafidi sì gbọ́.
[And while he was speaking with them, behold the Amessaean advanced, Goliath by name, the Philistine of Geth, of the armies of the Philistines, and he spoke ] [as before, and David heard. ]
24 Nígbà tí àwọn Israẹli rí ọkùnrin náà, gbogbo wọn sì sá fún un ní ìbẹ̀rù bojo.
[And all the men of Israel when they saw the man fled from before him, and they were greatly terrified. ]
25 Nígbà náà ni àwọn ọkùnrin Israẹli wí pé, “Ǹjẹ́ ẹ̀yin kò rí i bí ọkùnrin yìí ṣe ń jáde wá? Ó jáde wá láti pe Israẹli níjà. Ọba yóò fún ọkùnrin tí ó bá pa á ní ọrọ̀ púpọ̀. Yóò tún fi ọmọ rẹ̀ obìnrin fún un ní ìyàwó, yóò sì sọ ilé e baba rẹ̀ di òmìnira kúrò nínú sísan owó orí ní Israẹli.”
[And the men of Israel said, Have you seen this man that comes up? for he has reproached Israel and has come up; and it shall be that the man who shall strike him, the king shall enrich him with great wealth and shall give him his daughter, and shall make his father’s house free in Israel. ]
26 Dafidi béèrè lọ́wọ́ ọkùnrin tí ó dúró ní ẹ̀gbẹ́ ẹ rẹ̀ pé, “Kí ni a yóò ṣe fún ọkùnrin náà tí ó bá pa Filistini yìí, tí ó sì mú ẹ̀gàn kúrò lára Israẹli? Ta ni aláìkọlà Filistini tí ó jẹ́ wí pé yóò máa gan ogun Ọlọ́run alààyè?”
[and David spoke to the men who stood with him saying, Shall it indeed be done thus to the man who shall strike that Philistine, and take away reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he has defied the army of the living God? ]
27 Wọ́n tún sọ fún un ohun tí wọ́n ti ń sọ, wọ́n sì wí pé, “Èyí ni ohun tí wọn yóò ṣe fún ọkùnrin tí ó bá pa á.”
[And the people spoke to him according to this Word, saying Thus shall it be done to the man Who shall strike him. ]
28 Nígbà tí Eliabu ẹ̀gbọ́n Dafidi gbọ́ nígbà tí ó ń bá ọkùnrin yìí sọ̀rọ̀, ó bínú sí i, ó sì wí pé, “Kí ni ó dé tí ìwọ fi sọ̀kalẹ̀ wá síbí? Àti pé ta ni ìwọ fi àwọn àgùntàn kékeré tókù ṣọ́ ní aginjù? Èmi mọ ìgbéraga rẹ, àti búburú ọkàn rẹ: ìwọ sọ̀kalẹ̀ wá nìkan láti wòran ogun.”
[And Eliab his elder brother heard as he spoke to the men, and Eliab was very angry with David and said, Why have you thus come down, and with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and the naughtiness of your heart, for you are come down to see the battle. ]
29 Dafidi wí pé, “Kí ni mo ṣe nísinsin yìí? Ǹjẹ́ mo lè sọ̀rọ̀ bí?”
[And David said what have I done now? ] [Have I no business here? ]
30 Ó sì yípadà sí ẹlòmíràn, ó sì ń sọ̀rọ̀ kan náà, ọkùnrin náà sì dáhùn bí ti ẹni ìṣáájú.
[And he turned from him towards another, and he spoke after the same manner; and the people answered him ] [after the former manner. ]
31 Àwọn ènìyàn gbọ́ ohun tí Dafidi sọ wọ́n sọ fún Saulu, Saulu sì ránṣẹ́ sí i.
[And the Words which David spoke were heard and were reported ] [to Saul. And he took him to himself. ]
32 Dafidi sọ fún Saulu pé, “Kí ẹnikẹ́ni má ṣe ba ọkàn jẹ́ nítorí Filistini yìí, ìránṣẹ́ rẹ yóò lọ láti bá a jà.”
And David said to Saul, Let not, I pray you, the heart of my lord be dejected within him: your servant will go, and fight with this Philistine.
33 Saulu sì wí fún Dafidi pé, “Ìwọ kò tó láti jáde lọ pàdé ogun Filistini yìí àti láti bá a jà; ọmọdé ni ìwọ, òun sì ti ń jagun láti ìgbà èwe rẹ̀ wá.”
And Saul said to David, You will not in anyway be able to go against this Philistine to fight with him, for you are a mere youth, and he a man of war from his youth.
34 Ṣùgbọ́n Dafidi sọ fún Saulu pé, “Ọmọ ọ̀dọ̀ rẹ ti ń tọ́jú agbo àgùntàn baba rẹ̀. Nígbà tí kìnnìún tàbí àmọ̀tẹ́kùn bá wá láti wá gbé àgùntàn láti inú igbó.
And David said to Saul, Your servant was tending the flock for his father; and when a lion came and a she-bear, and took a sheep out of the flock,
35 Mo sá tẹ̀lé e, mo lù ú, mo sì gba àgùntàn náà kúrò lẹ́nu rẹ̀. Nígbà tí ó kọjú sí mi, mo fi irun rẹ̀ gbá a mú, mo sì lù ú mo sì pa á.
then I went forth after him, and struck him, and drew [the spoil] out of his mouth: and as he rose up against me, then I caught hold of his throat, and struck him, and killed him.
36 Ìránṣẹ́ rẹ ti pa kìnnìún àti àmọ̀tẹ́kùn, aláìkọlà Filistini yìí yóò jẹ́ ọ̀kan lára wọn, nítorí ó ti pe ogun Ọlọ́run alààyè ní ìjà.
Your servant struck both the lion and the bear, and the uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them: shall I not go and strike him, and remove this day a reproach from Israel? For who [is] this uncircumcised one, who has defied the army of the living God?
37 Olúwa tí ó gbà mí kúrò lọ́wọ́ ìhàlẹ̀ kìnnìún àti ti ìhàlẹ̀ àmọ̀tẹ́kùn yóò gbà mí kúrò lọ́wọ́ Filistini yìí.” Saulu wí fún Dafidi pé, “Lọ kí Olúwa wà pẹ̀lú rẹ.”
The Lord who delivered me out of the paw of the lion and out the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this uncircumcised Philistine. And Saul said to David, Go, and the Lord shall be with you.
38 Saulu fi aṣọ àwọ̀tẹ́lẹ̀ rẹ̀ wọ Dafidi, ó wọ̀ ọ́ ní aṣọ ìhámọ́ra ogun, ó sì fi ìbòrí idẹ kan bò ó ní orí.
And Saul clothed David with a military coat, and [put] his brazen helmet on his head.
39 Dafidi si di idà rẹ̀ mọ́ àwọ̀tẹ́lẹ̀ rẹ̀ ó sì bẹ̀rẹ̀ sí ní rìn káàkiri nítorí wí pé kò mọ́ ọ lára. Ó sọ fún Saulu pé, “Èmi kò le wọ èyí lọ, kò mọ́ mi lára.” Ó sì bọ́ wọn kúrò.
And he girded David with his sword over his coat: and he made trial walking [with them] once and again: and David said to Saul, I shall not be able to go with these, for I have not proved [them]: so they remove them from him.
40 Nígbà náà, ó sì mú ọ̀pá rẹ̀ lọ́wọ́, ó ṣá òkúta dídán márùn-ún létí odò, ó kó wọn sí àpò olùṣọ́-àgùntàn tí ó wà lọ́wọ́ rẹ̀ pẹ̀lú kànnàkànnà, ó sì súnmọ́ Filistini náà.
And he took his staff in his hand, and he chose for himself five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in the shepherd's scrip which he had for his store, and his sling was in his hand; and he approached the Philistine.
41 Lákòókò yìí, Filistini pẹ̀lú ẹni tí ń gbé ìhámọ́ra ààbò wà níwájú rẹ̀, ó ń bọ̀ wá sọ́dọ̀ Dafidi.
And the Philistine advanced and drew near to David, and a man bearing his shield went before him, and the Philistine looked on.
42 Nígbà tí Filistini náà sì wo Dafidi láti òkè délẹ̀, ó sì rí i wí pé ọmọ kékeré kùnrin ni, ó pọ́n ó sì lẹ́wà lójú, ó sì kẹ́gàn an rẹ̀.
And Goliath saw David, and despised him; for he was a lad, and ruddy, with a fair countenance.
43 Ó sì wí fún Dafidi pé, “Ṣé ajá ni mí ni? Tí o fi tọ̀ mí wá pẹ̀lú ọ̀pá?” Filistini sì fi Dafidi bú pẹ̀lú Ọlọ́run rẹ̀.
And the Philistine said to David, Am I as a dog, that you come against me with a staff and stones? [and David said, Nay, but worse than a dog.] And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
44 Filistini náà sì wí Dafidi pé, “Wá níbí, èmi yóò fi ẹran-ara rẹ fún àwọn ẹyẹ ojú ọ̀run jẹ àti fún àwọn ẹranko tí ó wà nínú igbó!”
And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air, and to the beasts of the earth.
45 Dafidi sì wí fún Filistini pé, “Ìwọ dojú ìjà kọ mí pẹ̀lú idà, ọ̀kọ̀ àti ọfà, ṣùgbọ́n èmi wá sí ọ̀dọ̀ rẹ pẹ̀lú orúkọ Olúwa àwọn ọmọ-ogun, Ọlọ́run àwọn ọmọ-ogun Israẹli tí ìwọ tí gàn.
And David said to the Philistine, You come to me with sword, and with spear, and with shield; but I come to you in the name of the Lord God of hosts of the army of Israel, which you have defied
46 Lónìí yìí ni Olúwa yóò fi ọ́ lé mi lọ́wọ́, èmi yóò sì pa ọ́, èmi yóò sì gé orí rẹ. Lónìí èmi yóò fi òkú ogun Filistini fún ẹyẹ ojú ọ̀run àti fún ẹranko igbó, gbogbo ayé yóò sì mọ̀ pé Ọlọ́run wà ní Israẹli.
this day. And the Lord shall deliver you this day into my hand; and I will kill you, and take away your head from off you, and will give your limbs and the limbs of the army of the Philistines this day to the birds of the sky, and to the wild beasts of the earth; and all the earth shall know that there is a God in Israel.
47 Gbogbo àwọn tí ó péjọ níbí ni yóò mọ̀ pé kì í ṣe nípa ọ̀kọ̀ tàbí idà ni Olúwa fi ń gbàlà; ogun náà ti Olúwa ni, yóò sì fi gbogbo yín lé ọwọ́ wa.”
And all this assembly shall know that the Lord delivers not by sword or spear, for the battle [is] the Lord's, and the Lord will deliver you into our hands.
48 Bí Filistini ṣe súnmọ́ iwájú láti pàdé e rẹ̀. Dafidi yára sáré sí òun náà láti pàdé e rẹ̀.
And the Philistine arose and went to meet David.
49 Dafidi ti ọwọ́ sí àpò rẹ̀, ó sì mú òkúta jáde wá ó sì fì í, ó sì jù ú sí ọ̀kọ́kán iwájú orí Filistini. Òkúta náà sì wọ̀ ọ́ níwájú orí, ó sì ṣubú ó sì dojúbolẹ̀ ní orí ilẹ̀.
And David stretched out his hand to his scrip, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and struck the Philistine on his forehead, and the stone penetrated through the helmet into his forehead, and he fell upon his face to the ground.
50 Dafidi yọ ayọ̀ ìṣẹ́gun lórí Filistini pẹ̀lú kànnàkànnà àti òkúta, láìsí idà ní ọwọ́ rẹ̀, ó lu Filistini, ó sì pa á.
[So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him, and there was no sword in the hand of David. ]
51 Dafidi sì sáré ó sì dúró lórí rẹ̀. Ó sì mú idà Filistini, ó sì fà á yọ nínú àkọ̀ ọ rẹ̀. Lẹ́yìn ìgbà tí ó ti pa á tan, ó sì gé orí rẹ̀ pẹ̀lú idà. Nígbà tí àwọn ará Filistini rí i wí pé akọni wọn ti kú, wọ́n yípadà wọ́n sì sálọ.
And David ran, and stood upon him, and took his sword, and killed him, and cut off his head: and the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, and they fled.
52 Nígbà náà, àwọn ọkùnrin Israẹli àti ti Juda súnmọ́ iwájú pẹ̀lú ariwo, wọ́n sì lépa àwọn ará Filistini dé ẹnu ibodè Gati àti títí dé ẹnu ibodè Ekroni. Àwọn tí ó kú wà káàkiri ẹ̀gbẹ́ ọ̀nà Ṣaaraimu àti títí dé ọ̀nà Gati àti Ekroni.
And the men of Israel and Juda arose, and shouted and pursued them as far as the entrance to Geth, and as far as the gate of Ascalon: and the slain men of the Philistines fell in the way of the gates, both to Geth, and to Accaron.
53 Nígbà tí àwọn ọmọ Israẹli sì padà láti máa lé àwọn ará Filistini, wọ́n sì ba ibùdó wọn jẹ́.
And the men of Israel returned from pursuing after the Philistines, and they destroyed their camp.
54 Dafidi gé orí Filistini ó sì gbé e wá sí Jerusalẹmu, ó sì kó àwọn ohun ìjà Filistini sínú àgọ́ tirẹ̀.
And David took the head of the Philistine, and brought it to Jerusalem; but he put his armour in his tent.
55 Bí Saulu sì ti wo Dafidi bí ó ṣe ń jáde lọ pàdé Filistini, ó wí fún Abneri, olórí àwọn ológun rẹ̀ pé, “Abneri, ọmọ ta ni ọmọdékùnrin yìí?” Abneri dáhùn pe, “Bí ọkàn rẹ̀ ti ń bẹ ní ààyè, ọba èmi kò mọ̀.”
And when Saul saw David going out to meet the Philistine, he said to Abener the captain of the host, Whose son is this youth? and Abener said, As your sould lives, O King, I know not.
56 Ọba sì wí pé, “Wádìí ọmọ ẹni tí ọmọdékùnrin náà ń ṣe.”
And the king said, Do you ask whose son this youth is.
57 Kété tí ó dé láti ibi tí ó ti lọ pa Filistini, Abneri sì mú u wá síwájú Saulu, orí Filistini sì wà ní ọwọ́ Dafidi.
And as David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abener took him and brought him before Saul, and the head of the Philistine was in his hand.
58 Saulu béèrè pé, “Ọmọdékùnrin, ọmọ ta ni ọ́?” Dafidi dáhùn pé, “Èmi ni ọmọ ìránṣẹ́ rẹ Jese ti Bẹtilẹhẹmu.”
And Saul said to him, Whose son are you, young man? and David said, The son of your servant Jessae the Bethleemite.
