1 Vanyalukolo vango namungalondaghe mweni piiva vavulanes ndavule mukagwile kuuti usue twevavulanesi tulihighua kukila avenge.
Do not be eager, my brethren, for many among you to become teachers; for you know that we teachers shall undergo severer judgement.
2 Ulwakuva ttweni tusova munyinga. Nave umunhu naisova musino ijova, ujuo mugholofu, aliningufu isakughulongosia vunono um'bili ghwake ghwoni.
For we often stumble and fall, all of us. If there is any one who never stumbles in speech, that man has reached maturity of character and is able to curb his whole nature.
3 Pano tukunga ikyuma ikigonde mumulomo ghwa falasi tulonda kuuti jikundaghe, mu uluo pe tukujilongosia kwooni kuno tughanile.
Remember that we put the horses' bit into their mouths to make them obey us, and so we turn their whole bodies round.
4 Ukagulaghe name ingalava imbaha fiijo, sighendesevua night mhepo imbaha, scope silongosevua nuvusukani uvudebe kuluuta kwoni kuno ilonda juno ilongosia.
So too with ships, great as they are, and often driven along by strong gales, yet they can be steered with a very small rudder in whichever direction the caprice of the man at the helm chooses.
5 Fye lulivuo, ulumili nambe kilungo kidebe fiijo mu m'biili, lujova amasio agha kughinia fiijo. Lolagha akajejelufu aka mwoto vule kinyanya unsitu unkome fiijo!
In the same way the tongue is an insignificant part of the body, but it is immensely boastful. Remember how a mere spark may set a vast forest in flames.
6 Ulumili lwope mwoto, vumemile uvuvivi vuno vuli papinga ulumili kilungo kimo mufilungo fyoni ifya mbiili, niki lupelela umunhu ghwoni kuuva muhosi. lunanginie kunyanja uvwumi vyonivyoni vwa muunhu ku mwoto ghuno naghusila lusiku. (Geenna g1067)
And the tongue is a fire. That world of iniquity, the tongue, is placed within us spotting and soiling our whole nature, and setting the whole round of our lives on fire, being itself set on fire by Gehenna. (Geenna g1067)
7 Ifikanu fyooni ifya mulisoli, ifikano fino fikwafula fino fili nyanja ni njuni.
For brute nature under all its forms--beasts and birds, reptiles and fishes--can be subjected and kept in subjection by human nature.
8 Niki nakwale umunhu Juno ndapoonu idiima ulumili naludimika lupindile uvuhosi lumemile isumu jino jibuda.
But the tongue no man or woman is able to tame. It is an ever-busy mischief, and is full of deadly poison.
9 Ulumili tukumughinikisia uNguluve nu Nhaata ghwiitu, Kane ulumili lululuo tuvombela kughunila avanhu vano vapelilue mu kihwani kyake.
With it we bless the Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who are made in God's likeness.
10 Mu mulomo ghumo ghihuma amasio agha kughinia na namasio agha kughuna. Vanyalukolo vango nalunoghile kuvomba uluo.
Out of the same mouth there proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, this ought not to be.
11 Ndeponu ikindwivu kimono kihumia amalenga amanono na mavivi?
In a fountain, are fresh water and bitter sent forth from the same opening?
12 Vanyalukolo vango asi unkuju ndeponu ghukomia amandima, nambe umfulisi ndaponu ghukoma amaguhu? Jeeje nambe ikindwiiivu ikya malenga ghano ghale nu mwinyo nakingahumie amalenga amasila mwinyo.
Can a fig-tree, my brethren, yield olives, or a vine yield figs? No; and neither can salt water yield sweet.
13 Ghwe veeni pakate palyumue, unya vukagusi nu luhala? umuunhu ujuoujuo avonie amaghendele ghake amanofu ni mbombo sake inofu sino sivombeka nu vukola vuno vuhuma luhala lwake.
Which of you is a wise and well-instructed man? Let him prove it by a right life with conduct guided by a wisely teachable spirit.
14 Nike nave mumemile ikivini na kukwilana mulekaghe kukughinia nambe kukwandula uvwakyang'ani kuuva vudesi.
But if in your hearts you have bitter feelings of envy and rivalry, do not speak boastfully and falsely, in defiance of the truth.
15 Uvukagusi ndavule uvuo navuhuma Kwan Nguluve looli vwaa mu iisi, vukagusi vwa vaanhu kange vuhuma kwa setano.
That is not the wisdom which comes down from above: it belongs to earth, to the unspiritual nature, and to evil spirits.
16 Ulwakuva avaanhu pano vali ni kivini na kukwilana pe pano pweghale aamabatu nu vuhosi vuno vulipapinga.
For where envy and rivalry are, there also are unrest and every vile deed.
17 Looli vano vali nuvukagusi kuhuma kwa Nguluve, avuo avagholofu, vilonda ulutengano, vukoola nuvu kundi, vanyalusungu, kange vivomba imbombo inofu, navisalula umunhu nambe kuuva vakedusi.
The wisdom from above is first of all pure, then peaceful, courteous, not self-willed, full of compassion and kind actions, free from favouritism and from all insincerity.
18 Avaanhu vano visambania avenge, vinyala ulutengano luno lukuvapela uvugholofu.
And peace, for those who strive for peace, is the seed of which the harvest is righteousness.
