Châm Ngôn 6
1 Hỡi con, nếu con có bảo lãnh cho kẻ lân cận mình, Nếu con giao tay mình vì người ngoại,
My sonne, if thou be surety for thy neighbour, and hast striken hands with the stranger,
2 Thì con đã bị lời miệng mình trói buộc, Mắc phải lời của miệng con.
Thou art snared with the wordes of thy mouth: thou art euen taken with the woordes of thine owne mouth.
3 Hỡi con, bởi vì con đã sa vào tay kẻ lân cận con, Hỡi làm điều nầy và giải cứu mình con: Hãy đi hạ mình xuống, nài xin người lân cận con;
Doe this nowe, my sonne, and deliuer thy selfe: seeing thou art come into the hande of thy neighbour, goe, and humble thy selfe, and sollicite thy friends.
4 Chớ để cho hai mắt con ngủ, Hoặc mí mắt con chợp lại;
Giue no sleepe to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.
5 Hãy giải cứu mình khỏi người như con hoàng dương thoát khỏi tay thợ săn, Như con chim thoát khỏi tay kẻ đánh rập.
Deliuer thy selfe as a doe from the hande of the hunter, and as a birde from the hande of the fouler.
6 Hỡi kẻ biếng nhác, hãy đi đến loài kiến; Khá xem xét cách ăn ở nó mà học khôn ngoan.
Goe to the pismire, O sluggarde: beholde her waies, and be wise.
7 Tuy nó không có hoặc quan tướng, Hoặc quan cai đốc, hay là quan trấn,
For shee hauing no guide, gouernour, nor ruler,
8 Thì nó cũng biết sắm sửa lương phạn mình trong lúc mùa hè, Và thâu trữ vật thực nó trong khi mùa gặt.
Prepareth her meat in the sommer, and gathereth her foode in haruest.
9 Hỡi kẻ biếng nhác, ngươi sẽ nằm cho đến chừng nào? Bao giờ ngươi sẽ ngủ thức dậy?
Howe long wilt thou sleepe, O sluggarde? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleepe?
10 Ngủ một chút, chợp mắt một chút, Khoanh tay nằm một chút,
Yet a litle sleepe, a litle slumber, a litle folding of the hands to sleepe.
11 Thì sự nghèo khổ của ngươi sẽ đến như kẻ đi rảo, Và sự thiếu thốn của ngươi tới như người cầm binh khí.
Therefore thy pouertie commeth as one that trauaileth by the way, and thy necessitie like an armed man.
12 Người nào đi đứng có miệng giả dối, Là một kẻ vô loại, một người gian ác;
The vnthriftie man and the wicked man walketh with a froward mouth.
13 Hắn liếc con mắt, dùng chân mình bày ý, Và lấy ngón tay mình ra dấu;
He maketh a signe with his eyes: he signifieth with his feete: he instructeth with his fingers.
14 Trong lòng hắn vẫn có sự gian tà; Nó toan mưu ác luôn luôn, Và gieo sự tranh cạnh.
Lewde things are in his heart: he imagineth euill at all times, and raiseth vp contentions.
15 Bới cớ ấy, tai họa sẽ xảy đến nó thình lình; Bỗng chúc nó bị bại hoại, không phương thế chữa được.
Therefore shall his destruction come speedily: hee shall be destroyed suddenly without recouerie.
16 Có sáu điều Đức Giê-hô-va ghét, Và bảy điều Ngài lấy làm gớm ghiếc:
These sixe things doeth the Lord hate: yea, his soule abhorreth seuen:
17 Con mắt kiêu ngạo, lưỡi dối trá, Tay làm đổ huyết vô tội
The hautie eyes, a lying tongue, and the hands that shed innocent blood,
18 Lòng toan những mưu ác, Chân vội vàng chạy đến sự dữ,
An heart that imagineth wicked enterprises, feete that be swift in running to mischiefe,
19 Kẻ làm chứng gian và nói điều dối, Cùng kẻ gieo sự tranh cạnh trong vòng anh em.
A false witnesse that speaketh lyes, and him that rayseth vp contentions among brethren.
20 Hỡi con, hãy giữ lời răn bảo của cha, Chớ lìa bỏ các phép tắc của mẹ con.
My sonne, keepe thy fathers commandement, and forsake not thy mothers instruction.
21 Khá ghi tạc nó nơi lòng con luôn luôn, Và đeo nó nơi cổ con.
Binde them alway vpon thine heart, and tye them about thy necke.
22 Khi con đi, các lời đó sẽ dẫn dắt con; Lúc con ngủ, nó gìn giữ con; Và khi con thức dậy, thì nó sẽ trò chuyện với con.
It shall leade thee, when thou walkest: it shall watch for thee, when thou sleepest, and when thou wakest, it shall talke with thee.
23 Vì điều răn là một cái đèn, luật pháp là ánh sáng, Và sự quở trách khuyên dạy là con đường sự sống,
For the commandement is a lanterne, and instruction a light: and corrections for instruction are the way of life,
24 Đặng giữ con khỏi người đàn bà ác nghiệp, Và khỏi lưỡi dua nịnh của dâm phụ.
To keepe thee from the wicked woman, and from ye flatterie of ye tongue of a strange woman.
25 Lòng con chớ tham muốn sắc nó, Đừng để mình mắc phải mí mắt nó.
Desire not her beautie in thine heart, neither let her take thee with her eye lids.
26 Vì tại kỵ nữ có người nông nổi chỉ còn một miếng bánh mà thôi; Người dâm phụ vẫn lừa sẵn linh hồn quí báu.
For because of the whorish woman a man is brought to a morsell of bread, and a woman wil hunt for the precious life of a man.
27 Há có người nào để lửa trong lòng mình, Mà áo người lại chẳng bị cháy sao?
Can a man take fire in his bosome, and his clothes not be burnt?
28 Há có ai đi trên than lửa hực, Mà chân mình lại chẳng bị phồng chăng?
Or can a man go vpon coales, and his feete not be burnt?
29 Kẻ nào đi tới cùng vợ người lân cận mình cũng vậy; Phàm ai đụng đến nàng ắt chẳng được khỏi bị phạt.
So he that goeth in to his neighbours wife, shall not be innocent, whosoeuer toucheth her.
30 Người ta chẳng khinh dị kẻ trộm, Nếu nó ăn cắp đặng phỉ lòng mình khi đói khát;
Men do not despise a thiefe, when he stealeth, to satisfie his soule, because he is hungrie.
31 Hễ nó bị bắt, chắc phải thường bồi gấp bảy lần; Nó sẽ nộp hết tài sản của nhà nó.
But if he be founde, he shall restore seuen folde, or he shall giue all the substance of his house.
32 Kẻ nào phạm tội ngoại tình với người đàn bà, tất vô tâm vô trí: Ai làm như vậy, khiến cho linh hồn mình bị hư mất.
But he that committeth adulterie with a woman, he is destitute of vnderstanding: he that doeth it, destroyeth his owne soule.
33 Người ấy sẽ bị thương tích và khinh bỉ, Sự sỉ nhục người sẽ chẳng bôi mất đi;
He shall finde a wounde and dishonour, and his reproch shall neuer be put away.
34 Vì sự ghen ghét là điều giận dữ của người nam, Trong ngày báo thù, người không dung thứ;
For ielousie is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.
35 Người sẽ chẳng nhận giá đền tội nào hết, Mặc dầu con gia tăng của lễ, người cũng không đặng phỉ ý đâu.
He cannot beare the sight of any raunsome: neither will he consent, though thou augment the giftes.
