Giô-na 3
1 Lại có lời Đức Giê-hô-va phán cùng Giô-na lần thứ hai mà rằng:
And the worde of the Lord came vnto Ionah the seconde time, saying,
2 Ngươi khá chờ dậy! Hãy đi đến thành lớn Ni-ni-ve, và rao cho nó lời ta đã dạy cho ngươi.
Arise, goe vnto Nineueh that great citie, and preach vnto it the preaching, which I bid thee.
3 Vậy Giô-na chờ dậy và đi đến Ni-ni-ve, theo lịnh của Đức Giê-hô-va. Vả, Ni-ni-ve là một thành rất lớn, đi mất ba ngày đường.
So Ionah arose and went to Nineueh according to ye word of the Lord: now Nineueh was a great and excellent citie of three dayes iourney.
4 Giô-na khởi đầu vào trong thành đi một ngày, thì rao giảng và nói rằng: Còn bốn mươi ngày nữa, Ni-ni-ve sẽ bị đổ xuống!
And Ionah began to enter into the citie a dayes iourney, and he cryed, and said, Yet fourtie dayes, and Nineueh shalbe ouerthrowen.
5 Dân thành Ni-ni-ve tin Đức Chúa Trời. Họ rao ra sự kiêng ăn và mặc bao gai, từ những người rất lớn trong đám họ cho đến những kẻ rất nhỏ.
So the people of Nineueh beleeued God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth from ye greatest of the euen to the least of them.
6 Tin ấy đồn đến vua Ni-ni-ve, vua đứng dậy khỏi ngai, lột áo bào mình ra, quấn bao gai và ngồi trong tro.
For worde came vnto the King of Nineueh, and he rose from his throne, and he layed his robe from him, and couered him with sackecloth, and sate in ashes.
7 Đoạn vua truyền lịnh nầy ra trong thành Ni-ni-ve, như là lời dụ của vua cùng của các kẻ tôn trưởng: Không luận người ta hay thú vật, không luận bầy bò hay bầy chiên, đều chớ nếm chi hết. Không được để cho nó ăn, cũng không uống nước;
And he proclaimed and said through Nineueh, (by the counsell of ye king and his nobles) saying, Let neither man, nor beast, bullock nor sheep taste any thing, neither feed nor drinke water.
8 nhưng người ta và thú vật đều phải quấn bao gai. Mọi người khá ra sức kêu cùng Đức Chúa Trời; phải, ai nấy khá bỏ đường lối xấu mình và việc hung dữ của tay mình.
But let man and beast put on sackecloth, and crie mightily vnto God: yea, let euery man turne from his euill way, and from the wickednesse that is in their handes.
9 Ai biết rằng hoặc Đức Chúa Trời sẽ không xây lại và ăn năn, xây khỏi cơn nóng giận mình, hầu cho chúng ta khỏi chết, hay sao?
Who can tell if God will turne, and repent and turne away from his fierce wrath, that we perish not?
10 Bấy giờ Đức Chúa Trời thấy việc họ làm đều đã xây bỏ đường lối xấu của mình; Đức Chúa Trời bèn ăn năn sự họa mà Ngài đã phán sẽ làm cho họ, và Ngài không làm sự đó.
And God sawe their workes that they turned from their euill wayes: and God repented of the euill that he had said that he woulde doe vnto them, and he did it not.
