II Các Vua 3

1 Giô-ram, con trai A-háp, lên ngôi làm vua Y-sơ-ra-ên tại Sa-ma-ri, năm thứ mười tám đời vua Giô-sa-phát vua Giu-đa, và cai trị mười hai năm.

Nowe Iehoram the sonne of Ahab beganne to reigne ouer Israel in Samaria, the eighteenth yeere of Iehoshaphat King of Iudah, and reigned twelue yeeres.

2 Người làm điều ác trước mặt Đức Giê-hô-va, song không giống như cha và mẹ người; bởi vì người có trừ bỏ tượng thần Ba-anh mà cha người đã dựng lên.

And he wrought euill in the sight of the Lord, but not like his father nor like his mother: for he tooke away the image of Baal that his father had made.

3 Dầu vậy, người cũng ham theo tội lỗi của Giê-rô-bô-am, con trai Nê-bát, tức là tội đã gây cho Y-sơ-ra-ên can phạm. Người chẳng hề chịu bỏ đi.

Neuerthelesse, he cleaued vnto the sinnes of Ieroboam, the sonne of Nebat, which made Israel to sinne, and departed not therefrom.

4 Vả, Mê-sa, vua dân Mô-áp, nuôi nhiều bầy chiên, hằng năm người tiến cống cho vua Y-sơ-ra-ên một trăm ngàn chiên con, và trăm ngàn chiên đực chưa hớt lông.

Then Mesha King of Moab had store of sheepe, and rendred vnto the King of Israel an hundreth thousande lambes, and an hundreth thousande rammes with the wooll.

5 Nhưng xảy ra khi A-háp băng hà, vua Mô-áp dấy nghịch cùng vua Y-sơ-ra-ên.

But when Ahab was dead, the king of Moab rebelled against the King of Israel.

6 Bấy giờ, vua Giô-ram đi ra khỏi Sa-ma-ri kiểm điểm cả Y-sơ-ra-ên.

Therefore King Iehoram went out of Samaria the same season, and nombred all Israel,

7 Người sai báo với Giô-sa-phát, vua Giu-đa, rằng: Dân Mô-áp đã phản nghịch cùng tôi. Vua có muốn đến cùng tôi giao chiến với Mô-áp chăng? Giô-sa-phát đáp rằng: Tôi sẽ đi; tôi như ông, dân sự tôi như dân sự ông, ngựa tôi như ngựa của ông.

And went, and sent to Iehoshaphat King of Iudah, saying, The King of Moab hath rebelled against me: wilt thou goe with me to battell against Moab? And he answered, I will goe vp: for I am, as thou art, my people, as thy people, and mine horses as thine horses.

8 Người lại tiếp: Chúng ta sẽ đi lên đường nào? Giô-ram đáp: Bởi con đường của đồng vắng Ê-đôm.

Then said he, What way shall we goe vp? And he answered, The way of the wildernesse of Edom.

9 Aáy vậy, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, vua Giu-đa và vua Ê-đôm đồng kéo ra, đi vòng bảy ngày đường, đoạn họ không có nước cho đạo binh và súc vật theo.

So went the King of Israel and the king of Iudah, and the King of Edom, and when they had compassed the way seuen dayes, they had no water for the hoste, nor for the cattell that followed them.

10 Vua Y-sơ-ra-ên bèn nói rằng: Than ôi! Đức Giê-hô-va đã gọi ba vua này đến đặng nộp vào tay Mô-áp.

Therefore the King of Israel sayde, Alas, that the Lord hath called these three Kings, to giue them into the hand of Moab.

11 Nhưng Giô-sa-phát hỏi: ỳ đây há chẳng có tiên tri nào của Đức Giê-hô-va để chúng ta nhờ người mà cầu vấn Đức Giê-hô-va chăng? Một đầy tớ của vua Y-sơ-ra-ên thưa rằng: ỳ đây có Ê-li-sê, con trai của Sa-phát, là kẻ đã hầu việc Ê-li.

But Iehoshaphat saide, Is there not here a Prophet of the Lord, that we may inquire of the Lord by him? And one of the King of Israels seruants answered, and said, Here is Elisha the sonne of Shaphat, which powred water on the handes of Eliiah.

12 Giô-sa-phát tiếp: Lời phán của Đức Giê-hô-va vốn ở nơi người. Vậy, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, Giô-sa-phát, và vua Ê-đôm, bèn đi đến người.

Then Iehoshaphat saide, The worde of the Lord is with him. Therefore the King of Israel, and Iehoshaphat, and the King of Edom went downe to him.

13 Ê-li-sê nói với vua Y-sơ-ra-ên rằng: Vua và tôi có can hệ gì chăng? Khá đi cầu vấn các tiên tri của cha và mẹ vua. Vua Y-sơ-ra-ên đáp rằng: Chẳng vậy đâu; vì Đức Giê-hô-va đã gọi ba vua này đến, đặng nộp vào tay Mô-áp.

And Elisha sayde vnto the King of Israel, What haue I to doe with thee? get thee to the prophets of thy father and to the prophets of thy mother. And the King of Israel saide vnto him, Nay: for the Lord hath called these three Kings, to giue them into the hande of Moab.

14 Ê-li-sê bèn nói: Đức Giê-hô-va vạn quân hằng sống, tôi đứng trước mặt Ngài, mà thề rằng, nếu tôi không kính nể Giô-sa-phát, vua Giu-đa, thì tôi chẳng xem vua ra sao, và cũng không thấy đến nữa.

Then Elisha said, As the Lord of hostes liueth, in whose sight I stande, if it were not, that I regarde the presence of Iehoshaphat the King of Iudah, I woulde not haue looked towarde thee, nor seene thee.

15 Nhưng bây giờ, hãy đem đến cho tôi một người khảy đàn. Trong lúc người ấy khảy đàn, thì tay của Đức Giê-hô-va ở trên Ê-li-sê.

But nowe bring me a minstrel. And when the minstrel played, the hand of the Lord came vpon him.

16 Người nói: Đức Giê-hô-va phán như vầy: Hãy đào cho nhiều hầm hố khắp trong trũng này.

And he saide, Thus saith the Lord, Make this valley full of ditches.

17 Vì Đức Giê-hô-va phán rằng: Các ngươi sẽ không thấy gió, cũng chẳng thấy mưa, thế mà trũng này sẽ đầy dẫy nước, và các ngươi, bầy chiên, cùng súc vật của các ngươi, đều sẽ uống nước được.

For thus saith the Lord, Ye shall neither see winde nor see raine, yet the valley shalbe filled with water, that ye may drinke, both ye and your cattel, and your beastes.

18 Nhưng Đức Giê-hô-va coi sự này là nhỏ mọn quá: Ngài lại sẽ phó luôn dân Mô-áp vào tay các ngươi.

But this is a small thing in the sight of the Lord: for he will giue Moab into your hande.

19 Các ngươi sẽ phá hủy hết thảy những thành kiên cố, những thành thị tứ, đốn những cây tốt, bít mọi suối nước, và lấy đá làm hư hại đồng ruộng màu mỡ.

And ye shall smite euery strong towne and euery chiefe citie, and shall fell euery faire tree, and shall stoppe all the fountaines of water, and marre euery good fielde with stones.

20 Vậy, buổi sáng, nhằm giờ người ta dâng của lễ chay, thấy nước bởi đường Ê-đôm đến, và xứ bèn đầy những nước.

And in the morning whe the meat offring was offred, beholde, there came water by the way of Edom: and the countrey was filled with water.

21 Khi dân Mô-áp hay rằng các vua ấy đi lên đặng đánh mình, thì nhóm hết thảy những người có thể nai nịch binh khí được trở lên, và đứng tại bờ cõi xứ.

And when al the Moabites heard that the Kings were come vp to fight against them, they gathered all that was able to put on harnesse, and vpwarde, and stood in their border.

22 Ngày sau dân Mô-áp chổi dậy thật sớm; khi mặt trời mọc soi trên nước, dân Mô-áp thấy trước mặt mình nước đỏ như máu,

And they rose earely in the morning, when the sunne arose vpon the water, and the Moabites saw the water ouer against them, as red as blood.

23 thì la lên rằng: Aáy là máu! Chắc ba vua ấy đã tranh chiến nhau, đánh giết lẫn nhau. Bây giờ, hỡi dân Mô-áp! hãy đi cướp của.

And they saide, This is blood the Kings are surely slaine, and one hath smitten another: now therefore, Moab, to the spoyle.

24 Vậy, chúng đi đến trại quân Y-sơ-ra-ên; nhưng dân Y-sơ-ra-ên chổi dậy, hãm đánh dân Mô-áp, chúng nó chạy trốn khỏi trước mặt dân Y-sơ-ra-ên. Đoạn, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên loán vào xứ, hãm đánh Mô-áp.

And when they came to the host of Israel, the Israelites arose vp, and smote the Moabites, so that they fled before them, but they inuaded them, and smote Moab.

25 Họ phá hủy các thành, ai nấy lấy đá liệng vào lấp các đồng ruộng màu mỡ, bít các nguồn nước, và đốn những cây tốt. tại Kiệt-Ha-rê-sết chỉ còn lại những vách thành: Những quân ném đá cũng vây xông phá các vách đó nữa.

And they destroyed the cities: and on all the good field euery man cast his stone, and filled them and they stopt all the fountaines of water, and felled all the good trees: onely in Kirharaseth left they the stones thereof: howebeit they went about it with slings, and smote it.

26 Vua Mô-áp thấy mình không thế chống nổi, bèn đem theo mình bảy trăm người cầm gươm, toan xông đến nơi vua Ê-đôm; nhưng không thế nào được.

And when the King of Moab saw that the battel was too sore for him, he tooke with him seuen hudreth men that drew the sword, to break through vnto the King of Edom: but they could not.

27 Người bèn bắt thái tử, là kẻ phải kế vị mình, dâng làm của lễ thiêu tại trên vách thành. Bèn có cơn thạnh nộ nổi phừng cùng Y-sơ-ra-ên; thì họ lìa khỏi vua Mô-áp, và trở về xứ mình.

Then he tooke his eldest sonne, that should haue reigned in his stead, and offered him for a burnt offring vpon the wall: so that Israel was sore grieued, and they departed from him, and returned to their countrey.
