II Sử Ký 19

1 Giô-sa-phát, vua Giu-đa, trở về bình an nơi cung mình tại Giê-ru-sa-lem.

And Josaphat king of Juda returned to his house at Jerusalem.

2 Giê-hu, con trai của Ha-na-ni, đấng tiên kiến, đi ra đón vua Giô-sa-phát, mà nói rằng: Vua há giúp đỡ kẻ hung ác, và thương mến kẻ ghen ghét Đức Giê-hô-va sao? Bởi cớ đó, có cơn giận của Đức Giê-hô-va đến trên vua.

And there went out to meet him Jeu the prophet the son of Anani, and said to him, King Josaphat, doest thou help a sinner, or act friendly towards one hated of the Lord? Therefore has wrath come upon thee from the Lord.

3 Nhưng trong vua có điều lành, vì vua có trừ diệt khỏi xứ những thần A-sê-ra, và rắp lòng tìm cầu Đức Chúa Trời.

Nevertheless [some] good things have been found in thee, forasmuch as thou didst remove the groves from the land of Juda, and didst direct thine heart to seek after the Lord.

4 Giô-sa-phát ở tại Giê-ru-sa-lem. Đoạn, người lại đi ra tuần soát dân sự, từ Bê-e-Sê-ba cho đến núi Eùp-ra-im, dẫn dắt chúng trở về cùng Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời của tổ phụ họ.

And Josaphat dwelt in Jerusalem: and he again went out among the people from Bersabee to the mount of Ephraim, and turned them back to the Lord God of their fathers.

5 Người lập quan xét trong khắp nước, tại các thành bền vững của Giu-đa, thành nào cũng có.

And he appointed judges in all the strong cities of Juda, city by city.

6 Rồi người bảo các quan xét rằng: Hãy cẩn thận việc các người làm; vì chẳng phải vì loài người mà các ngươi xét đoán đâu, bèn là vì Đức Giê-hô-va; Ngài sẽ ở cùng các ngươi trong việc xét đoán.

And he said to the judges, Take good heed what ye do: for ye judge not for man, but for the Lord, and with you are matters of judgment.

7 Vậy bây giờ, phải kính sợ Đức Giê-hô-va, khá cẩn thận mà làm; vì Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời của chúng ta chẳng trái phép công bình, chẳng thiên vị người, chẳng nhận của hối lộ.

And now let the fear of the Lord be upon you, and be wary, and do [your duty]: for there is no unrighteousness with the Lord our God, neither [is it for him] to respect persons, nor take bribes.

8 Lại Giô-sa-phát cũng chọn mấy người Lê-vi, thầy tế lễ và trưởng tộc của Y-sơ-ra-ên, đặt họ tại Giê-ru-sa-lem, đặng vì Đức Giê-hô-va mà đoán xét và phân xử việc kiện cáo. Chúng đều trở về Giê-ru-sa-lem.

Moreover Josaphat appointed in Jerusalem some of the priests, and Levites, and heads of houses of Israel, for the judgment of the Lord, and to judge the dwellers in Jerusalem.

9 Người dạy biểu chúng rằng: Các ngươi phải kính sợ Đức Giê-hô-va, lấy lòng trọn lành trung tín mà làm như vậy.

And he charged them, saying, Thus shall ye do in the fear of the Lord, in truth and with a perfect heart.

10 Hễ có anh em các ngươi ở trong các thành họ, đem đến trước mặt các ngươi việc tranh tụng nào, hoặc vì sự đổ huyết, hoặc vì phạm luật lệ và điều răn, giới mạng và pháp độ, thì các ngươi phải dạy bảo họ chớ phạm tội cùng Đức Giê-hô-va, e có cơn giận nghịch cùng các ngươi và anh em các ngươi: các ngươi làm như vậy, ắt không gây cho mình mắc tội.

Whatsoever man of your brethren that dwell in their cities [shall bring] the cause that comes before you, between blood [and] blood, and between precept and commandment, and ordinances and judgments, ye shall even decide for them; so they shall not sin against the Lord, and there shall not be wrath upon you, and upon your brethren: thus ye shall do, and ye shall not sin.

11 Nầy thầy tế lễ cả A-ma-ria, sẽ quản lý những việc thuộc về Đức Giê-hô-va, và Xê-ba-đia, con trai ỗch-ma-ên, trưởng tộc chi phái Giu-đa, sẽ quản lý những việc thuộc về vua; trước mặt các ngươi cũng có những người Lê-vi làm quan cai. Các ngươi khá làm việc cách can đảm, và Đức Giê-hô-va sẽ ở cùng người thiện.

And, behold, Amarias the priest is head over you in every matter of the Lord; and Zabdias the son of Ismael is head over the house of Juda in every matter of the king; and the scribes and Levites are before you: be strong and active, and the Lord shall be with the good.
