I Sa-mu-ên 5

1 Dân Phi-li-tin lấy hòm của Đức Chúa Trời, đi từ Ê-bên-Ê-xe tới Aùch-đốt.

Then the Philistines took the ark of God, and they transported it from the Stone of Assistance into Ashdod.

2 Đoạn, chúng lấy hòm của Đức Chúa Trời đi vào đền Đa-gôn, để ở bên Đa-gôn.

And the Philistines took the ark of God, and carried it into the temple of Dagon. And they stationed it beside Dagon.

3 Sáng ngày sau, dân Aùch-đốt dậy sớm, thấy Đa-gôn nằm sải mặt úp xuống đất trước mặt hòm của Đức Giê-hô-va. Chúng nó bèn đem Đa-gôn đặt lại tại chỗ nó.

And when the Ashdodites had risen up at first light on the next day, behold, Dagon was lying prone on the ground before the ark of the Lord. And they took Dagon, and they set him again in his place.

4 Ngày sau chúng nó trở vào sớm, Đa-gôn lại còn té xuống đất trước hòm của Đức Giê-hô-va, đầu và hai tay đều rơi ra, nằm trên ngạch cửa, chỉ còn cái mình nó mà thôi.

And again, on the next day, rising up in the morning, they found Dagon lying on his face upon the ground, before the ark of the Lord. But the head of Dagon, and both palms of his hands had been cut off upon the threshold.

5 Bởi cớ ấy, cho đến ngày nay, những thầy cả của Đa-gôn, và phàm người nào vào trong đền nó, đều tránh không đặt chân trên ngạch cửa.

Moreover, only the trunk of Dagon remained in its place. For this reason, the priests of Dagon, and all who enter his temple, do not tread upon the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod, even to this day.

6 Nhưng tay Đức Giê-hô-va giáng họa lớn trên dân sự Aùch-đốt, dẫn sự tàn hại đến trong xứ chúng nó, lấy bịnh trĩ lậu hành hại Aùch-đốt và địa phận nó.

Now the hand of the Lord weighed heavily upon the Ashdodites, and he destroyed them. And he struck Ashdod and its borders at the inner part of the buttocks. And in the villages and fields, in the midst of that region, mice rose up and burst forth. And this caused a great tumult unto death in the city.

7 Dân Aùch-đốt thấy mình như vậy, bèn kêu là rằng: Hòm của Đức Chúa Trời Y-sơ-ra-ên chớ ở nơi chúng ta, vì tay Ngài giáng họa lớn trên chúng ta và trên Đa-gôn, là thần của chúng ta.

Then the men of Ashdod, seeing this kind of plague, said: “The ark of the God of Israel shall not remain with us. For his hand is harsh, over us and over Dagon, our god.”

8 Chúng sai sứ thỉnh nhóm hết thảy quan trưởng của dân Phi-li-tin, mà hỏi rằng: Chúng ta sẽ làm sao về hòm của Đức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên? Các quan trưởng đáp: Phải đem hòm của Đức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên đến Gát. Người ta bèn đem hòm của Đức Chúa Trời của Y-xơ-ra-ên đến đó.

And sending, they gathered together all the princes of the Philistines to them, and they said, “What shall we do about the ark of the God of Israel?” And the Gathites responded, “Let the ark of the God of Israel be led around.” And they led the ark of the God of Israel around.

9 Người ta vừa đem hòm đi, thì tay Đức Giê-hô-va bèn phạt thành ấy, khiến cho nó bị sự kinh khiếp rất lớn. Ngài hành hại dân thành đó, từ đứa nhỏ cho đến người lớn; chúng đều bị bịnh trĩ lậu phát ra.

And as they were carrying it around, the hand of the Lord fell upon every single city with an exceedingly great slaughter. And he struck down the men of each and every city, from the small even to the great. And cysts were festering at their buttocks. And the Gathites took counsel, and they made for themselves seat covers from pelts.

10 Bấy giờ, chúng nó sai gởi hòm của Đức Chúa Trời đến Eùc-rôn. Khi hòm đến, dân Eùc-rôn kêu la rằng: Người ta khiêng hòm của Đức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên đến cùng ta đặng giết chúng ta và dân sự chúng ta!

Therefore, they sent the ark of God into Ekron. And when the ark of God had arrived at Ekron, the Ekronites cried out, saying, “They have brought the ark of the God of Israel to us, so that it may kill us and our people!”

11 Chúng nó sai thỉnh nhóm hết thảy quan trưởng của dân Phi-li-tin, mà nói rằng: Hãy khiêng hòm của Đức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên đi, để nó trở về nơi cũ, và chớ làm cho chúng ta và dân sự chúng ta phải chết. Vì trong mọi thành đều có sự kinh khiếp hầu chết; tay Đức Giê-hô-va giáng họa tại đó cách dữ tợn.

And so they sent and gathered together all the princes of the Philistines, and they said: “Release the ark of the God of Israel, and return it to its own place. And let it not kill us, with our people.”

12 Những kẻ nào không chết thì bị bịnh trĩ lậu; và tiếng kêu la của thành lên đến tận trời.

For the fear of death fell upon every single city, and the hand of God was very heavy. Also, the men who did not die were being afflicted in the inner part of the buttocks. And the wailing of each city was ascending to heaven.
