Xuất Hành 17
1 Cả hội chúng Y-sơ-ra-ên đi từ đồng vắng Sin, đi từng trạm, tùy theo lịnh Ðức Giê-hô-va, đóng trại tại Rê-phi-đim; ở đó chẳng có nước cho dân sự uống.
And all the assembly of the sons of Israel set forward out of the desert of Sin, by their removings, at the bidding of Yahweh, —and encamped in Rephidim, and there was no water for the people to drink.
2 Dân sự bèn kiếm cớ cãi lộn cùng Môi-se mà rằng: Hãy cho chúng tôi nước uống. Môi-se đáp rằng: Sao các ngươi kiếm cớ cãi lộn cùng ta? Sao ướm thử Ðức Giê-hô-va vậy?
And the people found fault with Moses, and said—Give us water, that we may drink. And Moses said to them, Why should ye find fault with me? Why should ye put Yahweh to the proof?
3 Dân sự ở đó không có nước, bị khát, nên oán trách Môi-se mà rằng: Sao người khiến chúng tôi ra xứ Ê-díp-tô, hầu cho chúng tôi, con và các bầy súc vật phải chịu chết khát thế nầy?
So the people thirsted, there for water, and the people murmured against Moses, —and said—Wherefore is it that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill me and my sons and my cattle, with thirst?
4 Môi-se bèn kêu cầu Ðức Giê-hô-va mà rằng: Tôi phải xử thế nào cùng dân nầy? Thiếu điều họ ném đá tôi!
And Moses made outcry unto Yahweh saying, What am I to do, with this people? Yet a little, and they will stone me.
5 Ðức Giê-hô-va đáp cùng Môi-se rằng: Hãy cầm gậy của ngươi đã đập dưới sông, dẫn theo những trưởng lão Y-sơ-ra-ên, rồi đi trước mặt dân sự.
Then said Yahweh unto Moses—Pass over before the people, and take with thee some of the elders of Israel, —thy staff also wherewith thou didst smite the river, take thou in thy hand, so shalt thou go thy way.
6 Nầy ta sẽ đứng đằng trước ngươi, ở trên hòn đá tại Hô-rếp kia, ngươi hãy đập hòn đá, thì nước từ đó chảy ra, dân sự sẽ uống lấy. Môi-se bèn làm như vậy trước mặt các trưởng lão Y-sơ-ra-ên.
Behold me! standing before thee, there upon the rock in Horeb, then shalt thou smite the rock and there shall come forth therefrom water, and the people shall drink. And Moses did so, in the sight of the elders of Israel.
7 Người đặt tên nơi nầy là Ma-sa và Mê-ri-ba, vì cớ việc cãi lộn mà dân Y-sơ-ra-ên kiếm cớ gây cùng người, và vì họ đã ướm thử Ðức Giê-hô-va mà nói rằng: Có Ðức Giê-hô-va ở giữa chúng ta hay chăng?
So he called the name of the place, Massah, and Meribah, —because of the fault-finding of the sons of Israel, and because of their putting Yahweh to the proof, saying, Is Yahweh in our midst or is he not?
8 Vả, khi đó, dân A-ma-léc đến khêu chiến cùng Y-sơ-ra-ên tại Rê-phi-đim.
Then came in Amalek, —and fought with Israel, in Rephidim.
9 Môi-se bèn nói cùng Giô-suê rằng: Hãy chọn lấy tráng sĩ cho chúng ta, ra chiến đấu cùng dân A-ma-léc; ngày mai ta sẽ đứng nơi đầu nổng, cầm gậy của Ðức Chúa Trời trong tay.
And Moses said unto Joshua—Choose for us men, and go forth, fight with Amalek, —to-morrow, am, I, stationing myself upon the top of the hill, with the staff of God in my hand.
10 Giô-suê bèn làm y như lời Môi-se nói, để cự chiến dân A-ma-léc; còn Môi-se, A-rôn và Hu-rơ lên trên đầu nổng.
So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, to fight with Amalek, —and Moses, Aaron and Hur, went up to the top of the hill.
11 Vả, hễ đang khi Môi-se giơ tay lên, thì dân Y-sơ-ra-ên thắng hơn; nhưng khi người xụi tay xuống, dân A-ma-léc lại thắng hơn.
And it shall be when Moses shall lift on high his hands, then shall Israel prevail, but when he shall let down his hands, then shall Amalek prevail.
12 Tay Môi-se mỏi, A-rôn và Hu-rơ bèn lấy đá kê cho người ngồi, rồi ở hai bên đỡ tay người lên; tay người chẳng lay động cho đến khi mặt trời lặn.
But, the hands of Moses, were weary, so they took a stone, and put under him, and he sat thereupon, —and, Aaron and Hur, upheld his hands—on this side, one and on that side, one, and so his hands became steady, until the going in of the sun.
13 Giô-suê lấy lưỡi gươm đánh bại A-ma-léc và dân sự người.
So Joshua overthrew Amalek and his people, with the edge of the sword.
14 Ðức Giê-hô-va bèn phán cùng Môi-se rằng: Hãy chép điều nầy trong sách làm kỷ niệm, và hãy nói cho Giô-suê biết rằng ta sẽ bôi sạch kỷ niệm về A-ma-léc trong thiên hạ.
Then said Yahweh unto Moses—Write this as a remembrancer in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua—that I will, wipe out, the remembrance of Amalek, from under the heavens.
15 Môi-se lập lên một bàn thờ, đặt tên là "Giê-hô-va cờ xí của tôi";
And Moses built an altar, —and called the name thereof, Yahweh-nissi.
16 và nói rằng: Bởi vì A-ma-léc có giơ tay lên nghịch cùng ngôi Ðức Giê-hô-va, nên Ðức Giê-hô-va chinh chiến với A-ma-léc từ đời nầy qua đời kia.
And he said—Because of a hand against the throne of Yah, Yahweh hath war with Amalek, —from generation to generation!
