II Sa-mu-ên 21
1 Về đời Ða-vít, có một ách cơ cẩn trong ba năm liên tiếp. Ða-vít cầu vấn Ðức Giê-hô-va; Ngài đáp cùng người rằng: Sự nầy xảy đến vì cớ Sau-lơ và nhà đổ huyết của người, bởi vì người có giết dân Ga-ba-ôn.
And there is a famine in the days of David three years, year after year, and David seeketh the face of Jehovah, and Jehovah saith, 'For Saul and for the bloody house, because that he put to death the Gibeonites.'
2 Vua bèn truyền gọi dân Ga-ba-ôn, và nói chuyện với họ. Người Ga-ba-ôn chẳng thuộc về dân sự Y-sơ-ra-ên, nhưng họ là kẻ sống sót của dân A-mô-rít; dân Y-sơ-ra-ên có thề hứa tha thứ họ. Dầu vậy, Sau-lơ vì lòng sốt sắng về dân Y-sơ-ra-ên và Giu-đa, đã tìm cách trừ diệt họ.
And the king calleth for the Gibeonites, and saith unto them — as to the Gibeonites, they [are] not of the sons of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorite, and the sons of Israel had sworn to them, and Saul seeketh to smite them in his zeal for the sons of Israel and Judah —
3 Ấy vậy, Ða-vít hỏi dân Ga-ba-ôn rằng: Ta phải làm sao cho các ngươi, lấy vật gì mà chuộc tội, hầu cho các ngươi chúc phước cho cơ nghiệp của Ðức Giê-hô-va?
yea, David saith unto the Gibeonites, 'What do I do for you? and with what do I make atonement? and bless ye the inheritance of Jehovah.'
4 Dân Ga-ba-ôn tâu cùng vua rằng: Chúng tôi đối cùng Sau-lơ và nhà người chẳng đòi bạc hay vàng, chúng tôi cũng chẳng có phép giết người nào trong Y-sơ-ra-ên. Ða-vít tiếp: Vậy các ngươi muốn ta làm gì cho các ngươi?
And the Gibeonites say to him, 'We have no silver and gold by Saul and by his house, and we have no man to put to death in Israel;' and he saith, 'What ye are saying I do to you.'
5 Họ đáp cùng vua rằng: Người ấy có diệt trừ chúng tôi; người có toan mưu làm cho chúng tôi biết mất khỏi cả địa phận Y-sơ-ra-ên.
And they say unto the king, 'The man who consumed us, and who devised against us — we have been destroyed from stationing ourselves in all the border of Israel —
6 Thế thì, hãy phó cho chúng tôi bảy người trong những con trai người; chúng tôi sẽ treo chúng nó trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va ở Ghi-bê-a, thành của Sau-lơ là người được Ðức Giê-hô-va chọn. Vua đáp: Ta sẽ phó chúng nó cho.
let there be given to us seven men of his sons, and we have hanged them before Jehovah, in the height of Saul, the chosen of Jehovah.' And the king saith, 'I do give;'
7 Ða-vít dong thứ Mê-phi-bô-sết, con trai của Giô-na-than, cháu của Sau-lơ, vì cớ lời thề Ða-vít và Giô-na-than, con trai của Sau-lơ, đã lập với nhau trước một Ðức Giê-hô-va.
and the king hath pity on Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, son of Saul, because of the oath of Jehovah that [is] between them, between David and Jonathan son of Saul;
8 Nhưng vua bắt Át-mô-ni và Mê-phi-bô-sết, hai con trai của Rít-ba, con gái của Ai-gia, đã sanh cho Sau-lơ, và năm con trai của Mi-canh, con gái Sau-lơ đã sanh cho Át-ri-ên, con trai của Bát-xi-lai ở Mê-hô-la,
and the king taketh the two sons of Rizpah daughter of Aiah, whom she bore to Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth, and the five sons of Michal daughter of Saul whom she bare to Adriel son of Barzillai the Meholathite,
9 mà giao cho dân Ga-ba-ôn; chúng treo họ lên trên núi tại trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va. Bảy người ấy đều bị chết chung với nhau, người ta giết họ nhằm mấy ngày đầu mùa gặt lúa mạch.
and giveth them into the hand of the Gibeonites, and they hang them in the hill before Jehovah; and the seven fall together, and they have been put to death in the days of harvest, in the first [days], the commencement of barley-harvest.
10 Rít-ba, con gái Ai-gia, bèn lấy một cái bao trải trên hòn đá dùng làm giường mình. Rồi từ đầu mùa gặt cho đến khi có mưa từ trên trời sa xuống trên thây chúng nó, ban ngày nàng cản không cho chim trời đậu ở trên thây, và ban đêm cản không cho thú đồng đến gần.
And Rizpah daughter of Aiah taketh the sackcloth, and stretcheth it out for herself on the rock, from the commencement of harvest till water hath been poured out upon them from the heavens, and hath not suffered a fowl of the heavens to rest upon them by day, or the beast of the field by night.
11 Có người học lại cho Ða-vít sự Rít-ba, con gái Ai-gia, hầu của Sau-lơ đã làm.
And it is declared to David that which Rizpah daughter of Aiah, concubine of Saul, hath done,
12 Vua bèn đi đến dân sự Gia-be trong xứ Ga-la-át, lấy hài cốt của Sau-lơ và của Giô-na-than, con trai Sau-lơ, mà dân ấy lấy trộm khỏi Bết-san, là nơi dân Phi-li-tin treo họ lên trong ngày chúng nó đánh bại Sau-lơ tại Ghinh-bô-a.
and David goeth and taketh the bones of Saul, and the bones of Jonathan his son, from the possessors of Jabesh-Gilead, who had stolen them from the broad place of Beth-Shan, where the Philistines hanged them, in the day of the Philistines smiting Saul in Gilboa;
13 Vậy, từ Gia-be, vua đem lại hài cốt của Sau-lơ và của Giô-na-than, con trai người, người ta cũng lấy hài cốt của những người đã bị treo,
and he bringeth up thence the bones of Saul, and the bones of Jonathan his son, and they gather the bones of those hanged,
14 chôn nó với hài cốt của Sau-lơ và Giô-na-than, con trai người, trong mộ của Kích cha của Sau-lơ, ở Xê-la, tại địa phận Bên-gia-min. Người ta làm mọi điều y như vua đã dặn biểu. Về sau Ðức Chúa Trời mới đoái thương đến xứ.
and bury the bones of Saul and of Jonathan his son in the land of Benjamin, in Zelah, in the burying-place of Kish his father, and do all that the king commanded, and God is entreated for the land afterwards.
15 Dân Y-sơ-ra-ên lại còn tranh chiến khác với dân Phi-li-tin. Ða-vít và các tôi tớ người kéo xuống, giáp chiến với dân Phi-li-tin. Ða-vít biết trong người mình mỏi mệt lắm.
And again have the Philistines war with Israel, and David goeth down, and his servants with him, and they fight with the Philistines; and David is weary,
16 Bấy giờ, Ít-bi-Bê-nốp, con cháu của Ra-pha có một cây lao nặng ba trăm siếc-lơ đồng và đeo gươm mới, toan đánh giết Ða-vít.
and Ishbi-Benob, who [is] among the children of the giant — the weight of his spear [is] three hundred [shekels] weight of brass, and he is girded with a new one — speaketh of smiting David,
17 Nhưng A-bi-sai, con trai Xê-ru-gia, đến tiếp cứu vua, đánh người Phi-li-tin ấy, và giết đi. Từ đó các thủ hạ của Ða-vít nài xin người rằng: Vua chớ ra trận cùng chúng tôi nữa, e ngọn đuốc Y-sơ-ra-ên phải tắt chăng.
and Abishai son of Zeruiah giveth help to him, and smiteth the Philistine, and putteth him to death; then swear the men of David to him, saying, 'Thou dost not go out again with us to battle, nor quench the lamp of Israel.'
18 Sau sự đó, lại có một trận khác cùng dân Phi-li-tin tại Góp. Ở đó, Si-bê-cai, người Hu-sa, giết Sáp, là con cháu của Ra-pha.
And it cometh to pass afterwards, that the battle is again in Gob with the Philistines, then hath Sibbechai the Hushathite smitten Saph, who [is] among the children of the giant.
19 Tại Góp lại còn có một trận với dân Phi-li-tin nữa. Eân-cha-nan, con trai Gia-a-rê-Ô-rê-ghim, ở Bết-lê-hem, đánh giết Gô-li-át ở Gát; người có một cây lao, cán như ống trục của thợ dệt.
And the battle is again in Gob with the Philistines, and Elhanan son of Jaare-Oregim, the Beth-Lehemite, smiteth [a brother of] Goliath the Gittite, and the wood of his spear [is] like a beam of weavers.
20 Cũng xảy ra một trận tại Gát, là nơi có một người cao lớn thuộc về dòng Ra-pha; người có sáu ngọn nơi hai bàn tay và sáu ngọn nơi hai bàn chơn, cộng là hai mươi bốn ngón.
And the battle is again in Gath, and there is a man of stature, and the fingers of his hands [are] six, and the toes of his feet [are] six, twenty and four in number, and he also hath been born to the giant,
21 Người nầy sỉ nhục Y-sơ-ra-ên; nhưng Giô-na-than, con trai Si-mê-a, cháu Ða-vít, giết hắn đi.
and he reproacheth Israel, and smite him doth Jonathan son of Shimeah, brother of David;
22 Bốn người Phi-li-tin nầy đã sanh tại Gát, về dòng dõi Ra-pha, đều bị giết bởi tay Ða-vít và bởi tay các đầy tớ người.
these four have been born to the giant in Gath, and they fall by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.
