II Các Vua 13
1 Năm thứ hai mươi ba đời Giô-ách, thì Giô-a-cha, con trai Giê-hu, lên ngôi làm vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, tại Sa-ma-ri. Người cai trị mười bảy năm.
In the twenty-third year of Joash son of Ahaziah king of Judah, Jehoahaz son of Jehu began to reign over Israel in Samaria; he reigned seventeen years.
2 Người làm điều ác trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va; bắt chước làm theo các tội lỗi của Giê-rô-bô-am, con trai Nê-bát, tức tội đã gây cho Y-sơ-ra-ên phạm tội; người chẳng bỏ tội ấy.
He did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh and followed the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin; and Jehoahaz did not turn away from them.
3 Cơn thạnh nộ của Ðức Giê-hô-va nổi lên cùng dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, Ngài phó chúng vào tay Ha-xa-ên, vua Sy-ri, và Bên-Ha-đát, con trai Ha-xa-ên, trọn trong lúc đó.
The anger of Yahweh burned against Israel, and he gave them continually into the hand of Hazael king of Aram and into the hand of Ben Hadad son of Hazael.
4 Giô-a-cha cầu xin Ðức Giê-hô-va, và Ðức Giê-hô-va nhậm lời người, bởi vì Ngài thấy vua Sy-ri hà hiếp dân Y-sơ-ra-ên là cách nào.
So Jehoahaz implored Yahweh, and Yahweh listened to him because he saw the oppression of Israel, how the king of Aram was oppressing them.
5 Ðức Giê-hô-va ban cho Y-sơ-ra-ên một người giải cứu, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên được thoát khỏi dưới tay dân Sy-ri, và được ở lại trong trại mình như trước.
So Yahweh gave Israel a rescuer, and they escaped from the hand of the Arameans, and the people of Israel began to live in their homes as they had before.
6 Dầu vậy, chúng không từ bỏ tội của nhà Giê-rô-bô-am, là tội người đã gây cho Y-sơ-ra-ên phạm tội; chúng cứ phạm tội đó, đến đỗi hình tượng Át-tạt-tê còn đứng tại Sa-ma-ri.
Nevertheless, they did not depart from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, who caused Israel to sin, and they continued in them; and the Asherah pole remained in Samaria.
7 Trong cả cơ binh của Giô-a-cha, Ðức Chúa Trời chỉ chừa lại cho người năm mươi lính kỵ, mười cỗ xe, và mười ngàn lính bộ; vì vua Sy-ri có diệt quân Y-sơ-ra-ên, và nghiền nát chúng như bụi trong sân đạp lúa.
The Arameans left Jehoahaz with only fifty horsemen, ten chariots, and ten thousand footmen, for the king of Aram had destroyed them and made them like the chaff at threshing time.
8 Các chuyện khác của Giô-a-cha, những công việc người làm, và sự mạnh dạn người, thảy đều chép trong sử ký về các vua Y-sơ-ra-ên.
As for the other matters concerning Jehoahaz, and all that he did and his power, are they not written in the book of the events of the kings of Israel?
9 Giô-a-cha an giấc cùng các tổ phụ mình, và người ta chôn người tại Sa-ma-ri. Giô-ách, con trai người, kế vị người.
So Jehoahaz slept with his ancestors, and they buried him in Samaria. Johoash his son became king in his place.
10 Năm thứ ba mươi bảy đời Giô-ách, vua Giu-đa, thì Giô-ách, con trai Giô-a-cha, lên ngôi làm vua Y-sơ-ra-ên tại Sa-ma-ri, và người cai trị mười sáu năm.
In the thirty-seventh year of Joash king of Judah, the reign of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz began over Israel in Samaria; he reigned sixteen years.
11 Người làm điều ác trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va, không từ bỏ tội li của Giê-rô-bô-am, con trai Nê-bát, đã gây cho Y-sơ-ra-ên phạm tội, mà cứ làm theo.
He did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh. He did not leave behind any of the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, by which he had made Israel to sin, but he walked in them.
12 Các chuyện khác của Giô-ách, mọi công việc người làm, thể nào ngừi đánh giặc cùng A-ma-xia, vua Giu-đa, và sự mạnh dạn người làm sao, thảy đều chép trong sử ký về các vua Y-sơ-ra-ên.
As for the other matters concerning Jehoash, and all that he did, and his might by which he fought against Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the events of the kings of Israel?
13 Giô-ách an giấc cùng các tổ phụ người, rồi Giê-rô-bô-am kế vị người. Giô-ách được chôn tại Sa-ma-ri chung với các vua Y-sơ-ra-ên.
Jehoash slept with his ancestors, and Jeroboam sat on his throne. Jehoash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.
14 Ê-li-sê đau bịnh, tại bịnh ấy người phải chết. Giô-ách, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, đến thăm người, khóc trước mặt người, mà nói rằng: Hỡi cha tôi! cha tôi! Xe và lính kỵ của Y-sơ-ra-ên!
Now Elisha became sick with an illness by which he later died, so Jehoash the king of Israel came down to him and wept over him. He said, “My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and the horsemen are taking you away!”
15 Ê-li-sê bèn nói với người rằng: Hãy lấy cung và tên. Giô-ách lấy cung và tên.
Elisha said to him, “Pick up a bow and some arrows,” so Joash picked up a bow and some arrows.
16 Ê-li-sê lại nói với vua Y-sơ-ra-ên rằng: Hãy lấy tay ngươi giương cung. Vua bèn giương cung. Rồi Ê-li-sê đặt tay mình trên tay vua,
Elisha said to the king of Israel, “Put your hand on the bow,” so he put his hand on it. Then Elisha laid his hands on the king's hands.
17 mà nói rằng: Hãy mở cửa sổ ra. Ê-li-sê lại nói: Hãy bắn. Người bèn bắn. Bấy giờ Ê-li-sê tiếp rằng: Ấy là cây tên thắng hơn của Ðức Giê-hô-va, tức là cây tên thắng hơn dân Sy-ri vì ngươi sẽ hãm đánh dân Sy-ri tại A-phéc, đến đỗi tuyệt diệt chúng nó.
Elisha said, “Open the window eastward,” so he opened it. Then Elisha said, “Shoot!”, and he shot. Elisha said, “This is Yahweh's arrow of victory, the arrow of victory over Aram, for you will attack the Arameans in Aphek until you have consumed them.”
18 Ê-li-sê tiếp rằng: Hãy lấy tên. Giô-ách bèn lấy tên. Ê-li-sê lại nói rằng: hãy đập xuống đất. Giô-ách đập ba lần, rồi ngừng.
Then Elisha said, “Take the arrows,” so Joash took them. He said to the king of Israel, “Strike the ground with them,” and he struck the ground three times, then stopped.
19 Người của Ðức Chúa Trời nổi giận, nói với vua rằng: Nếu vua đã đập năm sáu lần, thì mới đánh dân Sy-ri cho đến tận tuyệt; nhưng rày vua sẽ đánh dân Sy-ri ba lần mà thôi.
But the man of God was angry with him and said, “You should have hit the ground five or six times. Then you would have attacked Aram until you annihilated it, but now you will attack Aram only three times.”
20 Ê-li-sê qua đời, và người ta chôn người. Ðầu năm sau có đoàn quân Mô-áp toan vào xứ.
Then Elisha died, and they buried him. Now groups of Moabites invaded the land at the beginning of the year.
21 Vả, xảy ra có kẻ chôn một người, thấy đoàn quân ấy đến, liền liệng thây vào mồ Ê-li-sê. Kẻ chết vừa đụng hài cốt Ê-li-sê, thì sống lại và đứng dậy.
As they were burying a certain man, they saw a group of Moabites, so they threw the body into Elisha's grave. As soon as the man touched Elisha's bones, he revived and stood up on his feet.
22 Trọn đời Giô-a-cha, Ha-xa-ên, vua Sy-ri, có hà hiếp dân Y-sơ-ra-ên.
Hazael king of Aram oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz.
23 Nhưng Ðức Giê-hô-va làm ơn cho chúng, lấy lòng thương xót và đoái xem họ vì cớ lời giao ước của Ngài đã lập với Áp-ra-ham, Y-sác, và Gia-cốp. Ngài không muốn tận diệt chúng, không từ bỏ chúng khỏi trước mặt Ngài cho đến ngày nay.
But Yahweh was gracious to Israel, and had compassion on them and concern for them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. So Yahweh did not destroy them, and he still has not driven them away from his presence.
24 Ha-xa-ên, vua Sy-ri, băng hà; Bên-Ha-đát, con trai người, kế vị người.
Hazael king of Aram died, and Ben Hadad his son became king in his place.
25 Giô-ách, con trai Giô-a-cha, lấy lại khỏi tay Bên-Ha-đát, con trai Ha-xa-ên, các thành mà Bên-Ha-đát đã đánh lấy được của Giô-a-cha, cha người. Giô-ách đánh Bên-Ha-đát ba lần, và khôi phục các thành của Y-sơ-ra-ên.
Jehoash son of Jehoahaz took back from Ben Hadad son of Hazael the cities that had been taken from Jehoahaz his father by war. Jehoash attacked him three times, and he recovered those cities of Israel.
