1 Khi A-tha-li, mẹ của A-cha-xia, thấy con trai mình đã chết rồi, bèn chổi dậy giết hết thảy dòng vua.

2 Nhưng Giô-sê-ba, con gái của vua Giô-ram, và là chị A-cha-xia, bắt trộm Giô-ách, con trai của A-cha-xia, khỏi vòng các vương tử mà A-tha-li toan giết, rồi để người trong phòng ngủ với vú nuôi người, và giấu người khỏi mắt A-tha-li; vì vậy người không bị giết.
Sotheli Josaba, douyter of kyng Joram, the sistir of Ocozie, took Joas, sone of Ocozie, and stal him fro the myddis of the sones of the kyng, that weren slayn; and sche took the nursche of hym fro the hows of thre stagis; and sche hidde hym fro the face of Athalie, that he were not slayn.
3 Người ở với Giô-sê-ba, ẩn tại nơi đền thờ của Ðức Giê-hô-va trong sáu năm, còn A-tha-li cai trị trên xứ.

4 Năm thứ bảy, Giê-hô-gia-đa vời các quan cai hàng trăm quân canh và những quân hộ vệ đến cùng người trong đền thờ của Ðức Giê-hô-va. Người lập ước cùng chúng, và bắt chúng thề tại trong đền thờ của Ðức Giê-hô-va; người chỉ con trai của vua cho chúng.

5 Ðoạn, người truyền lịnh cho chúng rằng: Này là điều các ngươi sẽ làm: Một phần ba trong các ngươi đến phiên ngày Sa-bát, sẽ giữ cung vua;
And he comaundide to hem, and seide, This is the word, which ye owen to do;
6 một phần ba sẽ canh cửa Su-rơ, còn một phần ba sẽ ở nơi cửa sau các quân hộ vệ. Các ngươi sẽ giữ cung điện, cản không cho ai vào hết.
the thridde part of you entre in the sabat, and kepe the wakyngis of the `hows of the kyng; sothely the thridde part be at the yate of Seir; and the thridde part be at the yate which is bihynde the dwellyng place of the makeris of scheeldis; and ye schulen kepe the wakyngis of the hows of Messa.
7 Lại hai phần ba trong các ngươi mãn phiên ngày Sa-bát, sẽ ở gần vua, canh giữ đền thờ của Ðức Giê-hô-va.
Forsothe twei partis of you alle goynge out in the sabat, kepe ye the wakyngis of the hows of the Lord aboute the kyng.
8 Các ngươi sẽ vây chung quanh vua, mỗi người cầm binh khí mình nơi tay. Ai muốn vào trong hàng các ngươi, thì hãy giết nó đi. Hễ vua đi ra đi vô, các ngươi phải ở với người.
And ye schulen cumpasse hym, and ye schulen haue armeris in youre hondis; forsothe if ony man entrith in to the closyng of the temple, be he slayn; and ye schulen be with the kyng goynge in and goynge out.
9 Các quan cai làm theo lịnh của thầy tế lễ Giê-hô-gia-đa. Mỗi người lãnh những kẻ thủ hạ mình, hoặc người đến phiên ngày Sa-bát, hay là người mãn phiên trong ngày Sa-bát, mà đi đến thầy tế lễ Giê-hô-gia-đa.
And the centuriouns diden bi alle thingis whiche Joiada, the preest, hadde comaundid to hem; and alle takynge her men that entriden to the sabat, with hem that yeden out fro the sabat, camen to Joiada, the preest.
10 Thầy tế lễ phát cho các quan cai những giáo và khiên thuộc về vua Ða-vít, ở tại trong đền thờ của Ðức Giê-hô-va.
Which yaf to hem speris, and armeris of kyng Dauid, that weren in the hows of the Lord.
11 Các quân hộ vệ mỗi người cầm binh khí nơi tay, sắp theo đền thờ và bàn thờ, từ góc nam cho đến góc bắc của đền thờ.
And alle stoden hauynge armeris in her hond, fro the riyt side of the temple `til to the left side of the auter and of the hows, aboute the kyng.
12 Giê-hô-gia-đa bèn đem vương tử ra, đội mão triều thiên trên đầu người, và trao luật pháp cho người Vậy, họ tôn người lên làm vua, xức dầu cho, và hết thảy đều vỗ tay la lên rằng: Vua vạn tuế!
And he brouyte forth the sone of the kyng, and puttide on hym a diademe, and witnessyng; and thei maden hym kyng, and anoyntiden hym; and thei beeten with the hoond, and seiden, The kyng lyue!
13 Khi A-tha-li nghe tiếng quân hô vệ và tiếng dân sự, bèn đến cùng dân sự tại trong đền thờ của Ðức Giê-hô-va.
Forsothe Athalia herde the vois of the puple rennynge, and sche entride to the cumpenyes in to the temple of the Lord,
14 Bà xem thấy vua đứng trên tòa như lệ thường, có các quan cai và các kẻ thổi kèn đứng gần người, và cả dân sự của xứ đều vui mừng và thổi kèn. A-tha-li bèn xé áo mình và la lên rằng: Phản ngụy! phản ngụy!
and sche siy the kyng stondynge on the trone bi custom, and syngeris, and cumpenyes nyy hym, and al the puple of the lond beynge glad, and syngynge with trumpis. And sche to-rente hir clothis, and criede, `Swerynge togidere! swerynge togidere! ether tresoun.
15 Nhưng thầy tế lễ Giê-hô-gia-đa truyền lịnh cho những quan cai đạo quân, mà rằng: Hãy giết nó bằng gươm, Vì thầy tế lễ đã dạy rằng: Chớ giết nàng trong đền thờ của Ðức Giê-hô-va.
Forsothe Joiada comaundide to the centuriouns, that weren on the oost, and seide to hem, Lede ye hir out of the closyngis of the temple; and who euer sueth hir, be smytun with swerd. Forsothe the preest seide, Be sche not slayn in the temple of the Lord.
16 Người ta vẹt bên đường cho bà đi; bà trở vào cung vua bởi nơi vào cửa ngựa, và tại đó bà bị giết.
And thei puttiden hondis on hir, and hurliden hir bi the weie of the entryng of horsis bisidis the paleis; and sche was slayn there.
17 Giê-hô-gia-đa lập giao ước tại giữa Ðức Giê-hô-va, vua và dân sự, hầu cho dân Y-sơ-ra-ên làm dân sự của Ðức Giê-hô-va. Người cũng lập một giao ước giữa vua và dân sự.
Therfor Joiada made boond of pees bitwixe the Lord and the kyng, and bitwixe the puple, that it schulde be the puple of the Lord; and bitwixe the kyng and the puple.
18 Cả dân sự của xứ đều đi đến miễu Ba-anh mà phá dỡ nó đi, đập bể bàn thờ và hình tượng của Ba-anh, và giết Ma-than, thầy tế lễ Ba-anh, tại trước bàn thờ. Ðoạn, thầy tế lễ cất người canh giữ đền thờ của Ðức Giê-hô-va.
Al the puple of the lond entride in to the temple of Baal; and thei distrieden the auteris of hym, and al tobraken strongli the ymagis; and thei killiden bifore the auter Mathan, the preest of Baal. And the preest settide kepyngis in the hows of the Lord; and he took centuriouns, and the legiouns of Cerethi and Pherethi, and al the puple of the lond.
19 Lại, người đem theo mình những quan cai, cơ binh Ca-rít, quân hộ vệ, và cả dân sự của xứ; chúng thỉnh vua từ đền thờ của Ðức Giê-hô-va xuống, đi vào đền vua bởi nơi cửa của quân hộ vệ. Giô-ách bèn ngồi trên ngôi vua.
And thei ledden forth the kyng fro the hows of the Lord; and thei camen bi the weie of the yate of makeris of scheldis in to the paleis; and he sat on the trone of kyngis.
20 Cả dân sự trong xứ đều vui mừng, và thành được bình tịnh. vả, người ta đã giết A-tha-li bằng gươm tại trong cung vua.
And al the puple of the lond was glad, and the citee restide. Forsothe Athalia was slayn bi swerd in the hows of the kyng.
21 Giô-ách được bảy tuổi khi người lên ngôi.
And Joas was of seuen yeer, whanne he bigan to regne.
