II Sử Ký 16
1 Năm thứ ba mươi sáu đời A-sa, Ba-ê-ba, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, đi lên đánh Giu-đa, cất đồn lũy Ra-ma, để làm cho dân sự của A-sa, vua Giu-đa, không ra vào được.
In the six-and-thirtieth year of the reign of Assa, came up Ba'sha the king of Israel against Judah, and built Kamah, in order not to suffer any one to go out or come in to Assa the king of Judah.
2 Khi ấy A-sa lấy bạc vàng ở trong kho của đền Ðức Giê-hô-va và trong kho của cung vua, gởi đến Bên-Ha-đát, vua Sy-ri, ở tại Ða-mách, mà rằng:
Then did Assa bring out silver and gold out of the treasuries of the house of the Lord and of the king's house, and sent [them] to Ben-hadad the king of Syria, who dwelt at Damascus, saying,
3 Chúng ta hãy lập giao ước với nhau, y như thân phụ của tôi và thân phụ của ông đã làm. Kìa, tôi gởi dâng cho ông bạc và vàng: hãy đi hủy ước của ông với Ba-ê-ba, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, để người xa khỏi tôi.
A covenant is between me and thee, as between my father and thy father: behold, I have sent unto thee silver and gold; go, break thy covenant with Ba'sha the king of Israel, that he may withdraw from me.
4 Bên-Ha-đát nghe theo lời vua A-sa, bèn sai các tướng đạo binh mình đi hãm đánh các thành của Y-sơ-ra-ên, chiếm lấy Y-giôn, Ðan, A-bên-Ma-im, cùng các thành kho tàng của đất Nép-ta-li.
And Ben-hadad hearkened unto king Assa, and sent the captains of the armies that he had against the cities of Israel, and they smote 'Iyon, and Dan, and Abel-mayim, and all the treasure-cities of Naphtali.
5 Xảy khi Ba-ê-ba hay điều đó, liền thôi xây đồn Ra-ma và bãi công việc.
And it came to pass, when Ba'sha heard this, that he left off the building of Ramah, and stopped his work.
6 Vua A-sa bèn nhóm hết thảy người Giu-đa; chúng lấy đem đi đá và gỗ mà Ba-ê-ba đã dùng xây cất Ra-ma; rồi A-sa dùng đồ ấy xây cất Ghê-ba và Mích-ba.
And king Assa took then all Judah; and they carried away the stones of Ramah, and its timber, wherewith Ba'sha had built; and he built therewith Geba' and Mizpah.
7 Trong khi ấy, đấng tiên kiến Ha-na-ni đến cùng A-sa, vua Giu-đa, mà nói rằng: Bởi vì vua nương cậy vua Sy-ri, không nương cậy nơi Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của ông, nên đạo quân vua Sy-ri đã thoát khỏi tay ông.
And at that time came Chanani the seer to Assa the king of Judah, and said unto him, Because thou hast relied on the king of Syria, and hast not relied on the Lord thy God: therefore is the army of the king of Syria escaped out of thy hands.
8 Dân Ê-thi-ô-bi và dân Li-by há chẳng phải một đạo quân đông lắm sao? Xe và lính kỵ họ há chẳng phải nhiều lắm ư? Dẫu vậy, bởi vua nhờ cậy Ðức Giê-hô-va, nên Ngài phó chúng nó vào tay vua.
Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubim a numerous army, with chariots and horsemen in great abundance? yet, because thou didst rely on the Lord, he gave them up into thy hand.
9 Vì con mắt của Ðức Giê-hô-va soi xét khắp thế gian, đặng giúp sức cho kẻ nào có lòng trọn thành đối với Ngài. Trong việc này vua có cư xử cách dại dột, nên từ này về sau vua sẽ có giặc giã.
For as regardeth the Lord, his eyes roam throughout the whole earth, to hold strongly with those whose heart is entire toward him: thou hast done foolishly for this reason; because from this time forth there will be wars with thee.
10 A-sa nổi giận đấng tiên kiến, đem cầm tù người; vì tại việc ấy, vua tức giận người lắm. Trong lúc đó, A-sa cũng hà hiếp mấy người của dân sự.
Then became Assa incensed toward the seer, and put him in a prison-house; for he was in a rage with him because of this. And Assa oppressed some of the people at the same time.
11 Nầy các công việc của A-sa, từ đầu đến cuối, đều đã chép trong sách các vua Giu-đa và Y-sơ-ra-ên.
And, behold, the acts of Assa, the first and the last, lo, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
12 Năm thứ ba mươi chín đời A-sa trị vì, A-sa bị đau chơn, đến đỗi nặng lắm; trong cơn bịnh người không tìm kiếm Ðức Giê-hô-va, nhưng tìm kiếm những thầy thuốc.
And Assa became sick in the thirty-and-ninth year of his reign in his feet, his disease being exceedingly severe: yet even in his disease he sought not to the Lord, but [applied] to the physicians.
13 A-sa an giấc cùng tổ phụ người, băng hà năm thứ bốn mươi mốt đời người trị vì.
And Assa slept with his fathers, and died in the one-and-fortieth year of his reign.
14 Người ta chôn người nơi mồ mả chính người đã đào cho mình trong thành Ða-vít, để người nằm trên một cái giường đầy thuốc thơm, chế theo phép hòa hương; đoạn người ta xông hương cho người rất nhiều.
And they buried him in his own sepulchres, which he had dug for himself in the city of David, and they laid him in the couch which was filled with sweet odors and divers kinds of spices mixed by the apothecary's art; and they made for him a burning uncommonly great.
