1 Vua Ða-vít đã già; tuổi cao; và mặc dầu người ta đắp áo cho người, cũng không thể ấm được.

Now when King Dauid was olde, and striken in yeeres, they couered him with clothes, but no heate came vnto him.

2 Các tôi tớ người nói với người rằng: Xin tìm cho vua chúa tôi một gái trẻ đồng trinh, để hầu hạ vua và săn sóc vua. Nàng sẽ nằm trong lòng vua, thì vua chúa tôi có thể ấm được.

Wherefore his seruants saide vnto him, Let there be sought for my lord ye King a yong virgin, and let her stand before the king, and cherish him: and let her lie in thy bosome, that my lord the King may get heate.

3 Vậy người ta tìm trong khắp địa phận Y-sơ-ra-ên một người gái trẻ đẹp, và gặp được A-bi-sác, người Su-nem, dẫn nàng đến cùng vua.

So they sought for a faire young maide thoroughout all the coastes of Israel, and founde one Abishag a Shunamite, and brought her to the king.

4 Người gái trẻ này rất là lịch sự. Nàng săn sóc và hầu hạ vua; nhưng vua không thân cận nàng.

And the maid was exceeding faire, and cherished the king, and ministred to him, but the King knew her not.

5 Vả, A-đô-ni-gia, con trai Ha-ghít, tự tôn mà rằng: Ta sẽ làm vua. Người sắm xe và quân kỵ, cùng năm mươi người chạy trước mặt mình.

Then Adoniiah the sonne of Haggith exalted himselfe, saying, I will be king. And he gate him charets and horsemen, and fiftie men to run before him.

6 Cha người chẳng hề phiền lòng người mà hỏi rằng: Cớ sao mầy làm như vậy? Vả lại, A-đô-ni-gia rất đẹp, sanh ra kế sau Áp-sa-lôm.

And his father would not displease him from his childehood, to say, Why hast thou done so? And hee was a very goodly man, and his mother bare him next after Absalom.

7 Người bàn tính với Giô-áp, con trai của Xê-ru-gia và với thầy tế lễ A-bia-tha; hai người theo phe A-đô-ni-gia và giúp đỡ người.

And he tooke counsel of Ioab the sonne of Zeruiah, and of Abiathar the Priest: and they helped forward Adoniiah.

8 Nhưng thầy tế lễ Xa-đốc và Bê-na-gia, con trai Giê-hô-gia-đa, Na-than, thầy tiên tri, Si-mê -i, Rê -i, và các dõng sĩ của Ða-vít không theo phe A-đô-ni-gia.

But Zadok the Priest, and Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada, and Nathan the Prophet, and Shimei, and Rei, and the men of might, which were with Dauid, were not with Adoniiah.

9 A-đô-ni-gia dâng những chiên, bò, và bò con mập bên hòn đá Xô-hê-lết, ở cạnh giếng Eân-Rô-ghên; rồi mời anh em mình, là các con trai của vua, và hết thảy những người Giu-đa phục sự vua.

Then Adoniiah sacrificed sheepe and oxen, and fat cattel by the stone of Zoheleth, which is by En-rogel, and called all his brethren the kings sonnes, and al the men of Iudah ye Kings seruants,

10 Nhưng người chẳng mời Na-than, là đấng tiên tri, Bê-na-gia, các dõng sĩ, cùng Sa-lô-môn, em mình.

But Nathan the Prophet, and Benaiah, and the mightie men, and Salomon his brother hee called not.

11 Bấy giờ, Na-than nói với Bát-Sê-ba, mẹ của Sa-lô-môn, mà rằng: Bà há chẳng hay rằng A-đô-ni-gia, con trai Ha-ghít, đã làm vua, mà Ða-vít, chúa ta, chẳng hay biết sao?

Wherefore Nathan spake vnto Bath-sheba the mother of Salomon, saying, Hast thou not heard, that Adoniiah ye sonne of Haggith doeth reigne, and Dauid our lord knoweth it not?

12 Thế thì, bây giờ, hãy nghe; tôi sẽ cho bà một kế để bà cứu mạng sống mình và mạng sống của Sa-lô-môn.

Now therefore come, and I will now giue thee counsell, howe to saue thine owne life, and the life of thy sonne Salomon.

13 Hãy đi ra mắt vua Ða-vít, và tâu rằng: Ôi vua, chúa tôi! chúa há chẳng có thề cùng con đòi của chúa rằng: Con trai ngươi là Sa-lô-môn ắt sẽ trị vì?

Go, and get thee in vnto King Dauid, and say vnto him, Didest not thou, my lorde, O King, sweare vnto thine handmaide, saying, Assuredly Salomon thy sonne shall reigne after me, and he shall sit vpon my throne? why is then Adoniiah King?

14 Trong lúc bà tâu với vua như vậy, thì chính tôi cũng sẽ đi vào sau, làm cho quả quyết các lời của bà.

Behold, while thou yet talkest there with the King, I also will come in after thee, and confirme thy wordes.

15 Vậy, Bát-Sê-ba đi đến cùng vua, tại trong phòng. Vua đã già lắm có A-bi-sác, người Su-nem, hầu hạ người.

So Bath-sheba went in vnto the King into the chamber, and the King was verie olde, and Abishag the Shunammite ministred vnto ye King.

16 Bát-Sê-ba cúi mình xuống và lạy trước mặt vua. Vua hỏi rằng: Ngươi muốn chi?

And Bath-sheba bowed and made obeisance vnto the King. And the King saide, What is thy matter?

17 Bà tâu rằng: Chúa tôi ôi! chúa đã nhơn danh Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời chúa thề cùng con đòi của chúa rằng: Sa-lô-môn con trai ngươi sẽ trị vì kế ta, và nó sẽ ngồi trên ngôi ta.

And shee answered him, My lorde, thou swarest by the Lord thy God vnto thine handmaide, saying, Assuredly Salomon thy sonne shall reigne after me, and he shall sit vpon my throne.

18 Ôi vua chúa tôi! nhưng bây giờ, A-đô-ni-gia làm vua, mà chúa chẳng biết chi đến.

And beholde, nowe is Adoniiah king, and now, my lord, O King, thou knowest it not.

19 Người lại có giết bò đực, bò tơ mập, và chiên rất nhiều, cũng có mời hết thảy các vương tử với A-bia-tha, thầy tế lễ, và Giô-áp, quan tổng binh; nhưng người không mời Sa-lô-môn, kẻ tôi tớ vua.

And he hath offred many oxen, and fatte cattel, and sheepe, and hath called all the sonnes of the King, and Abiathar the Priest, and Ioab the captaine of the hoste: but Salomon thy seruant hath he not bidden.

20 Ôi vua chúa tôi! cả Y-sơ-ra-ên đều xây mắt về vua, đợi vua cho họ biết ai là người kế vua phải ngồi trên ngai của vua, là chúa tôi.

And thou, my lorde, O King, knowest that the eyes of all Israel are on thee, that thou shouldest tell them, who shoulde sit on the throne of my lord the King after him.

21 Chẳng vậy, khi vua chúa tôi an giấc với các tổ phụ, thì tôi và con trai tôi là Sa-lô-môn sẽ bị xử như kẻ có tội.

For els when my lord the King shall sleepe with his fathers, I and my sonne Salomon shalbe reputed vile.

22 Bà đương còn tâu với vua, thì tiên tri Na-than đến.

And lo, while she yet talked with the King, Nathan also the Prophet came in.

23 Người ta đến thưa cùng vua rằng: Nầy có tiên tri Na-than. Na-than ra mắt vua, sấp mình xuống trước mặt người mà lạy.

And they tolde the King, saying, Beholde, Nathan the Prophet. And when he was come in to the King, hee made obeisance before the King vpon his face to the ground.

24 và nói rằng: Ôi vua chúa tôi! có phải vua đã phán rằng: A-đô-ni-gia sẽ trị vì kế ta và ngồi trên ngai ta, chăng?

And Nathan saide, My lorde, O King, hast thou said, Adoniiah shall reigne after mee, and he shall sit vpon my throne?

25 Thật vậy, ngày nay, người đã đi xuống giết bò, bò tơ mập, và chiên rất nhiều, cùng mời hết thảy các vương tử, quan tướng, và thầy tế lễ A-bia-tha; kìa, họ ăn uống tại trước mặt người, và la lên rằng: A-đô-ni-gia vạn tuế!

For hee is gone downe this day, and hath slaine many oxen, and fat cattel, and sheepe, and hath called al the Kings sonnes, and the captaines of the hoste, and Abiathar the Priest: and behold, they eate and drinke before him, and say, God saue King Adoniiah.

26 Còn tôi là kẻ tôi tớ vua, thầy tế lễ Xa-đốc, Bê-na-gia, con trai Giê-hô-gia-đa, và Sa-lô-môn, tôi tớ vua, thì người chẳng có mời.

But me thy seruant, and Zadok the Priest, and Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada, and thy seruant Salomon hath he not called.

27 Việc này há phải bởi vua chúa tôi mà ra? Và lại vua không cho các tôi tớ vua biết ai là người kế vua, phải ngồi trên ngai của vua chúa tôi.

Is this thing done by my lord the King, and thou hast not shewed it vnto thy seruant, who should sitte on the throne of my lorde the King after him?

28 Vua Ða-vít đáp rằng: Hãy gọi Bát-Sê-ba cho ta. Bà vào và đứng trước mặt vua.

Then King Dauid answered, and saide, Call me Bath-sheba. And shee came into ye Kings presence, and stoode before the King.

29 Ða-vít bèn thề mà rằng: Nguyện Ðức Giê-hô-va hằng sống, là Ðấng đã giải cứu mạng sống ta khỏi các hoạn nạn!

And the King sware, saying, As the Lord liueth, who hath redeemed my soule out of all aduersitie,

30 Ta nhơn danh Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên mà thề cùng ngươi rằng: Quả hẳn Sa-lô-môn, con trai ngươi, sẽ trị vì kế ta, nó sẽ ngồi trên ngai thế cho ta; thì ngày nay ta sẽ làm hoàn thành điều đó.

That as I sware vnto thee by the Lord God of Israel, saying, Assuredly Salomon thy sonne shall reigne after me, and hee shall sit vpon my throne in my place, so will I certainely doe this day.

31 Bát-Sê-ba cúi mặt xuống đất và lạy trước mặt vua, mà tâu rằng: Nguyện vua Ða-vít, chúa tôi, vạn tuế!

Then Bath-sheba bowed her face to the earth, and did reuerence vnto the King, and said, God saue my lord King Dauid for euer.

32 Ðoạn, vua Ða-vít nói: Hãy gọi cho ta thầy tế lễ Xa-đốc, tiên tri Na-than, và Bê-na-gia, con trai của Giê-hô-gia-đa. Mấy người ấy bèn ra mắt vua.

And King Dauid saide, Call mee Zadok the Priest, and Nathan the Prophet, and Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada. And they came before the King.

33 Rồi vua nói với họ rằng: Hãy đem các đầy tớ của chủ các ngươi theo, đỡ Sa-lô-môn, con trai ta, lên cỡi con la của ta, rồi đưa nó đến Ghi-hôn.

Then the King said vnto them, Take with you the seruants of your lorde, and cause Salomon my sonne to ride vpon mine owne mule, and carie him downe to Gihon.

34 Ở đó, thầy tế lễ Xa-đốc và tiên tri Na-than phải xức dầu cho người làm vua Y-sơ-ra-ên. Ðoạn, các ngươi hãy thổi kèn lên mà họ rằng:

And let Zadok the Priest and Nathan the Prophet anoint him there King ouer Israel, and blowe ye the trumpet, and say, God saue king Salomon.

35 Vua Sa-lô-môn vạn tuế! Các ngươi sẽ theo sau người mà ta đã lập làm vua của Y-sơ-ra-ên và Giu-đa.

Then come vp after him, that hee may come and sit vpon my throne: and hee shall bee King in my steade: for I haue appointed him to be prince ouer Israel and ouer Iudah.

36 Bê-na-gia, con trai Giê-hô-gia-đa tâu cùng vua rằng: A-men! Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của vua chúa tôi, cũng phán định như vậy.

Then Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada answered the King, and said, So be it, and the Lord God of my lord the King ratifie it.

37 Ðức Giê-hô-va đã ở cùng vua chúa tôi thể nào, nguyện Ngài cũng ở cùng Sa-lô-môn thể ấy, và khiến ngôi người còn cao trọng hơn ngôi của vua Ða-vít, là chúa tôi!

As the Lord hath bene with my lorde the King, so be he with Salomon, and exalt his throne aboue the throne of my lorde king Dauid.

38 Ðoạn, thầy tế lễ Xa-đốc, tiên tri Na-than, Bê-na-gia, con trai Giê-hô-gia-đa, những người Kê-rê-thít và Phê-lê-thít, đều đi xuống, đỡ Sa-lô-môn lên cỡi con la của vua Ða-vít rồi đưa người đến Ghi-hôn.

So Zadok the Priest, and Nathan the Prophet, and Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites went downe and caused Salomon to ride vpon king Dauids mule, and brought him to Gihon.

39 Thầy tế lễ Xa-đốc lấy cái sừng dầu trong Ðền tạm, và xức cho Sa-lô-môn. Người ta thổi kèn, cả dân sự đều hô lên rằng: Vua Sa-lô-môn vạn tuế!

And Zadok the Priest tooke an horne of oyle out of the Tabernacle, and anointed Salomon: and they blewe the trumpet, and all the people said, God saue king Salomon.

40 Chúng đều theo người đi lên, thổi sáo, và vui mừng khôn xiết, đến nỗi đất rúng động bởi tiếng la của họ.

And all the people came vp after him, and the people piped with pipes, and reioyced with great ioye, so that the earth rang with the sound of them.

41 A-đô-ni-gia và hết thảy kẻ dự tiệc với mình đều nghe tiếng này khi vừa ăn xong. Lúc Giô-áp nghe tiếng kèn, thì nói: Sao trong thành có tiếng xôn xao ấy?

And Adoniiah and all the ghestes that were with him, heard it: (and they had made an ende of eating) and when Ioab heard the sound of the trumpet, he said, What meaneth this noise and vprore in the citie?

42 Người hãy còn nói, kìa Giô-na-than, con trai thầy tế lễ A-bia-tha, chợt đến. A-đô-ni-gia nói với người rằng: Hãy vào, vì ngươi là một tay dõng sĩ, chắc ngươi đem những tin lành.

And as he yet spake, beholde, Ionathan the sonne of Abiathar the Priest came: and Adoniiah said, Come in: for thou art a worthie man, and bringest good tidings.

43 Nhưng Giô-na-than đáp với A-đô-ni-gia rằng: Thật trái hẳn. Vua Ða-vít, chúa chúng ta, đã lập Sa-lô-môn làm vua.

And Ionathan answered, and said to Adoniiah, Verely our lord King Dauid hath made Salomon King.

44 Vua có sai thầy tế lễ Xa-đốc, tiên tri Na-than, Bê-na-gia, con trai Giê-hô-gia-đa, người Kê-rê-thít cùng người Phê-lê-nít đi theo người, và họ đã đỡ người lên cỡi con la của vua.

And the King hath sent with him Zadok the Priest, and Nathan the Prophet, and Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, and they haue caused him to ride vpon the Kings mule.

45 Ðoạn, tại Ghi-hôn, thầy tế lễ Xa-đốc và tiên tri Na-than đã xức dầu cho người làm vua; họ đã từ đó trở lên cách reo mừng, và cả thành đều vang động. Ðó là tiếng xôn xao mà các ông đã nghe.

And Zadok the Priest, and Nathan ye Prophet haue anointed him King in Gihon: and they are gone vp from thence with ioy, and the citie is moued: this is the noise that ye haue heard.

46 Lại, Sa-lô-môn đã ngồi trên ngôi nước;

And Salomon also sitteth on the throne of the kingdome.

47 các tôi tớ của vua đến chúc phước cho vua Ða-vít, chúa chúng ta, mà tâu rằng: Nguyện Ðức Chúa Trời của vua làm cho danh Sa-lô-môn tôn vinh hơn danh của vua, và khiến cho ngôi người cao trọng hơn ngôi của vua! Rồi cúi lạy nơi giường mình;

And moreouer the Kings seruantes came to blesse our lord King Dauid, saying, God make the name of Salomon more famous then thy name, and exalt his throne aboue thy throne: therefore the King worshipped vpon the bed.

48 và có nói như vầy: Ðáng khen ngợi thay Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên, vì ngày nay Ngài có ban một người để ngồi trên ngôi của tôi mà mắt tôi xem thấy.

And thus sayd the King also, Blessed bee the Lord God of Israel, who hath made one to sit on my throne this day, euen in my sight.

49 Bấy giờ, hết thảy các người dự tiệc với A-đô-ni-gia đều bắt sợ hãi, đứng dậy, ai đi đường nấy.

Then all the ghestes that were with Adonijah, were afraide, and rose vp, and went euery man his way.

50 A-đô-ni-gia cũng sợ Sa-lô-môn hay điều đó, rằng: Nầy, A-đô-ni-gia sợ vua Sa-lô-môn; kìa người đã nắm các sừng bàn thờ.

And Adonijah fearing the presence of Salomon, arose and went, and tooke holde on the hornes of the altar.

51 Có người đến thuật cho Sa-lô-môn hay điều đó, rằng: Nầy, A-đô-ni-gia sợ vua Sa-lô-môn; kìa người đã nắm các sừng bàn thờ, mà nói rằng: Hôm nay, vua Sa-lô-môn hãy thề với tôi rằng vua sẽ không giết đầy tớ người bằng gươm.

And one tolde Salomon, saying, Beholde, Adonijah doeth feare King Salomon: for lo, he hath caught holde on the hornes of the altar, saying, Let King Salomon sweare vnto me this day, that he will not slay his seruant with the sword.

52 Sa-lô-môn đáp rằng: Nếu người ăn ở ra người tử tế, thì chẳng một sợi tóc nào của người sẽ rụng xuống đất; bằng có thấy sự ác nơi người, ắt người sẽ chết.

Then Salomon sayd, If he will shewe him selfe a worthy man, there shall not an heare of him fall to the earth, but if wickednes be found in him, he shall dye.

53 Vua Sa-lô-môn sai kẻ đem người xuống khỏi bàn thờ. A-đô-ni-gia đến sấp mình xuống trước mặt Sa-lô-môn; Sa-lô-môn bèn nói với người rằng: Hãy trở về nhà ngươi.

Then King Salomon sent, and they brought him from the altar, and he came and did obeisance vnto King Salomon. And Salomon sayde vnto him, Go to thine house.
