Xê-ca-ri-a 1

1 Vào tháng tám năm thứ hai triều Vua Đa-ri-út, Tiên tri Xa-cha-ri, con Bê-rê-kia, cháu Y-đô, nhận được sứ điệp của Chúa Hằng Hữu như sau:

IN THE eighth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD unto Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, the prophet, saying:

2 “Chúa Hằng Hữu giận tổ tiên các ngươi lắm;

'The LORD hath been sore displeased with your fathers.

3 vì vậy hãy nói cho chúng dân nghe: ‘Đây là lời của Chúa Hằng Hữu Vạn Quân: Nếu các ngươi quay về với Ta, Ta sẽ trở lại cùng các ngươi, Chúa Hằng Hữu Vạn Quân phán vậy.’

Therefore say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts: Return unto Me, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will return unto you, saith the LORD of hosts.

4 Đừng như tổ tiên các ngươi không lắng nghe hay để ý những điều các tiên tri đã nói với họ: ‘Đây là lời Chúa Hằng Hữu Vạn Quân phán: Hãy từ bỏ đường ác, và chấm dứt những việc làm gian ác.’

Be ye not as your fathers, unto whom the former prophets proclaimed, saying: Thus saith the LORD of hosts: Return ye now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings; but they did not hear, nor attend unto Me, saith the LORD.

5 Tổ tiên các ngươi đâu cả rồi? Còn các tiên tri nữa, họ có sống mãi sao?

Your fathers, where are they? and the prophets, do they live for ever?

6 Tuy nhiên lời Ta, luật lệ Ta truyền cho các tiên tri, cuối cùng đã chinh phục lòng tổ tiên các ngươi. Họ ăn năn và nói: ‘Chúa Hằng Hữu Vạn Quân đã xử chúng tôi đúng như Ngài bảo trước, trừng phạt những điều ác chúng tôi làm, những đường tà chúng tôi theo.’”

But My words and My statutes, which I commanded My servants the prophets, did they not overtake your fathers? so that they turned and said: Like as the LORD of hosts purposed to do unto us, according to our ways, and according to our doings, so hath He dealt with us.'

7 Ngày hai mươi bốn tháng mười một, tháng Sê-bát, năm thứ hai triều Vua Đa-ri-út, Tiên tri Xa-cha-ri, con Bê-rê-kia, cháu Y-đô, lại nhận được sứ điệp của Chúa Hằng Hữu.

Upon the four and twentieth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Shebat, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD unto Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, the prophet, saying —

8 Đêm ấy, tôi thấy một người cưỡi ngựa hồng đứng giữa đám cây sim trong một thung lũng hẹp. Đứng sau người ấy có nhiều ngựa hồng, ngựa nâu, và ngựa trắng.

I saw in the night, and behold a man riding upon a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle-trees that were in the bottom; and behind him there were horses, red, sorrel, and white.

9 Tôi hỏi thiên sứ đang nói chuyện với tôi: “Thưa ngài, những cảnh này có nghĩa gì?” Thiên sứ đáp: “Tôi sẽ cho ông biết.”

Then said I: 'O my lord, what are these?' And the angel that spoke with me said unto me: 'I will show thee what these are.'

10 Rồi người đứng giữa đám cây sim, tức thiên sứ của Chúa Hằng Hữu, lên tiếng đáp lời tôi: “Chúa Hằng Hữu sai những người này đi khắp đất.”

And the man that stood among the myrtle-trees answered and said: 'These are they whom the LORD hath sent to walk to and fro through the earth.'

11 Những người cưỡi ngựa báo với thiên sứ của Chúa Hằng Hữu: “Chúng tôi đã đi khắp đất, mọi nơi đều bình an.”

And they answered the angel of the LORD that stood among the myrtle-trees, and said: 'We have walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sitteth still, and is at rest.'

12 Nghe thế, thiên sứ của Chúa Hằng Hữu cầu nguyện: “Lạy Chúa Hằng Hữu Vạn Quân, bảy mươi năm qua, cơn giận của Chúa Hằng Hữu đã trừng phạt Giê-ru-sa-lem và các thành Giu-đa. Đến bao giờ Chúa Hằng Hữu mới thương xót các thành ấy?”

Then the angel of the LORD spoke and said: 'O LORD of hosts, how long wilt Thou not have compassion on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which Thou hast had indignation these threescore and ten years?

13 Chúa Hằng Hữu dùng lời từ tốn an ủi thiên sứ đang nói chuyện với tôi.

And the LORD answered the angel that spoke with me with good words, even comforting words —

14 Thiên sứ bảo tôi: “Hãy công bố những lời này: ‘Đây là điều Chúa Hằng Hữu Vạn Quân phán: Khi thấy hoàn cảnh của Giê-ru-sa-lem và Núi Si-ôn, Ta giận lắm.

so the angel that spoke with me said unto me: 'Proclaim thou, saying: Thus saith the LORD of hosts: I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy;

15 Ta giận vì những dân tộc ngoại đạo đang sống an ổn, vì trong khi Ta chỉ hơi giận dân Ta thì các dân tộc ngoại đạo đã ra tay vượt quá ý định của Ta.’

and I am very sore displeased with the nations that are at ease; for I was but a little displeased, and they helped for evil.

16 ‘Cho nên, đây là điều Chúa Hằng Hữu phán: Ta sẽ trở lại với Giê-ru-sa-lem với lòng thương xót. Đền Thờ Ta sẽ được xây lại, Chúa Hằng Hữu Vạn Quân phán, và dây chuẩn mực sẽ giăng trên thành Giê-ru-sa-lem.’

Therefore thus saith the LORD: I return to Jerusalem with compassions: My house shall be built in it, saith the LORD of hosts, and a line shall be stretched forth over Jerusalem.

17 Hãy công bố tiếp: Đây là điều Chúa Hằng Hữu Vạn Quân phán: ‘Các thành của Ít-ra-ên sẽ lại thịnh vượng như xưa, Chúa Hằng Hữu sẽ vỗ về Si-ôn, vì một lần nữa, Ngài chọn Giê-ru-sa-lem.’”

Again, proclaim, saying: Thus saith the LORD of hosts: My cities shall again overflow with prosperity; and the LORD shall yet comfort Zion, and shall yet choose Jerusalem.'

18 Tôi nhìn lên, thấy có bốn cái sừng.

And I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and behold four horns.

19 Tôi hỏi thiên sứ đang nói chuyện với tôi: “Những sừng ấy là gì?” Thiên sứ đáp: “Đó là những sừng đã làm cho Giu-đa, Ít-ra-ên, và Giê-ru-sa-lem tan tác.”

And I said unto the angel that spoke with me: 'What are these?' And he said unto me: 'These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.'

20 Chúa Hằng Hữu cho tôi thấy bốn người thợ rèn.

And the LORD showed me four craftsmen.

21 Tôi hỏi: “Những người này đến làm gì?” Thiên sứ đáp: “Họ đến đánh các sừng đã làm cho Giu-đa tan tác, để chúng không ngóc đầu lên được. Họ sẽ ném sừng của các nước ngoại đạo ấy xuống đất.”

Then said I: 'What come these to do?' And he spoke, saying: 'These — the horns which scattered Judah, so that no man did lift up his head — these then are come to frighten them, to cast down the horns of the nations, which lifted up their horn against the land of Judah to scatter it.'
