Châm Ngôn 6
1 Con ơi, nếu con bảo lãnh bạn sơ giao, hay đưa tay cam kết với người lạ mặt.
My son, if thou have become surety for thy neighbor, if thou have struck thy hands for a stranger,
2 Nếu con vướng mắc lời thề, bị miệng lưỡi con ràng buộc—
thou are snared with the words of thy mouth, thou are taken with the words of thy mouth.
3 hãy nghe lời ta khuyên và tự cứu mình, vì con đã rơi vào tay của bạn con. Hãy hạ mình xuống; đi xin họ hủy lời cam kết.
Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, since thou have come into the hand of thy neighbor. Go, humble thyself, and importune thy neighbor.
4 Đừng trì hoãn; con phải đi ngay! Không được nghỉ ngơi cho đến khi xong việc.
Do not give sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.
5 Phải lo giải thoát lấy thân, như nai thoát tay thợ săn, như chim thoát bẫy.
Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.
6 Này người lười biếng, hãy quan sát sinh hoạt loài kiến. Hãy rút tỉa bài học để khôn ngoan!
Go to the ant, thou sluggard. Consider her ways, and be wise.
7 Tuy không có thủ lãnh, quan chức, hay người cai trị,
Which, having no chief, overseer, or ruler,
8 nhưng mùa hè, chúng biết dự trữ lương thực, mùa gặt chúng biết gom góp thóc lúa.
provides her bread in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest.
9 Nhưng người lười biếng kia, còn ngủ mãi sao? Đến bao giờ mới thức giấc?
How long will thou sleep, O sluggard? When will thou arise out of thy sleep?
10 Ngủ một chút, mơ màng thêm một chút, khoanh tay nghỉ một chút nữa thôi—
A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep,
11 cảnh nghèo đến như kẻ trộm; bạo tàn, đột ngột như phường cướp tấn công.
so thy poverty shall come as a robber, and thy want as an armed man.
12 Bọn vô lại độc ác thích điều gì? Họ không ngớt nói lời dối trá,
A worthless person, a man of iniquity, is he who walks with a perverse mouth,
13 nháy mắt, khều chân hay tay ngầm ra dấu.
who winks with his eyes, who speaks with his feet, who makes signs with his fingers,
14 Lòng đầy gian tà, mưu toan điều ác, xui cạnh tranh, bất hòa.
in whose heart is perverseness, who devises evil continually, who sows discord.
15 Nhưng họ sẽ bị tai họa bất ngờ, bị diệt không phương cứu thoát.
Therefore his calamity shall come suddenly. Suddenly he shall be broken, and that without remedy.
16 Sáu điều Chúa Hằng Hữu ghét— hay bảy điều làm Ngài gớm ghê:
There are six things which Jehovah hates, yea, seven which are an abomination to him:
17 Mắt kiêu căng, lưỡi gian dối, bàn tay đẫm máu vô tội,
haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
18 lòng mưu toan những việc hung tàn, chân phóng nhanh đến nơi tội ác,
a heart that devises wicked purposes, feet that are swift in running to mischief,
19 làm chứng gian khai mang hại người, xúi giục anh chị em tranh chấp.
a false witness who utters lies, and he who sows discord among brothers.
20 Con ơi, phải nghe lời cha khuyên dạy, và đừng bỏ khuôn phép mẹ con.
My son, keep the commandment of thy father, and do not forsake the law of thy mother.
21 Phải luôn luôn ghi lòng tạc dạ. Đeo những lời ấy vào cổ con.
Bind them continually upon thy heart. Tie them about thy neck.
22 Nó sẽ dẫn dắt con khi đi. Gìn giữ con lúc ngủ. Trò chuyện khi con thức dậy.
When thou walk, it shall lead thee. When thou sleep, it shall watch over thee. And when thou awake, it shall talk with thee.
23 Vì sự khuyên dạy là ngọn đèn, khuôn phép là ánh sáng; Quở trách khuyên dạy là vạch đường sống cho con.
For the commandment is a lamp, and the law is light, and reproofs of instruction are the way of life,
24 Gìn giữ con khỏi đàn bà tội lỗi, khỏi lưỡi dụ dỗ của dâm phụ.
to keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the stranger's tongue.
25 Lòng con đừng thèm muốn nhan sắc nó. Chớ để khóe mắt nó chinh phục con.
Do not lust after her beauty in thy heart, nor let her take thee with her eyelids.
26 Mê kỹ nữ thì sẽ lâm cảnh vong gia bại sản, lấy vợ người thì mất cả hồn linh.
For the price of a harlot is as much as a piece of bread, but the adulteress hunts for the precious life.
27 Có ai mang lửa trong lòng, mà áo quần không bốc cháy?
Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?
28 Có ai bước trên than hồng, mà khỏi bị phỏng chân chăng?
Or can a man walk upon hot coals, and his feet not be scorched?
29 Ai ngoại tình với vợ người cũng vậy. Người đụng đến nàng hẳn không tránh khỏi hình phạt.
So is he who goes in to his neighbor's wife. Whoever touches her shall not be unpunished.
30 Người ta có thể khoan hồng cho kẻ trộm, vì hắn phạm tội ăn cắp do đói.
Men do not despise a thief, if he steals to satisfy himself when he is hungry.
31 Nhưng nếu bị bắt nó phải bồi thường gấp bảy lần, phải lấy hết tài vật trong nhà để trang trải.
Yet if he is found, he shall restore sevenfold. He shall give all the substance of his house.
32 Nhưng người phạm tội ngoại tình thật ngu dại, vì tự hủy diệt chính mình.
He who commits adultery with a woman is void of understanding. He who would destroy his own soul does it.
33 Danh liệt, thân bại. Hổ thẹn nhục nhã suốt đời.
Wounds and dishonor he shall get, and his reproach shall not be wiped away.
34 Người chồng sẽ ghen tuông giận dữ, báo thù chẳng chút nương tay.
For jealousy is a man's fury, and he will not spare in the day of vengeance.
35 Anh ta không nhận tiền chuộc lỗi, dù con nộp bao nhiêu cũng không bằng lòng.
He will not regard any ransom, nor will he be satisfied, though thou give many gifts.
