Châm Ngôn 30
1 Lời của A-gu-ra, con trai Gia-kê, nói với Y-thi-ên và U-can:
THE WORDS OF AGUR THE SONNE OF JAKEH. The prophecie which ye man spake vnto Ithiel, euen to Ithiel, and Vcal.
2 Tôi là người ngu dốt nhất, và cũng không hiểu biết như người thường.
Surely I am more foolish then any man, and haue not the vnderstanding of a man in me.
3 Tôi chưa được học sự khôn ngoan, cũng không có sự hiểu biết về Đấng Thánh.
For I haue not learned wisedome, nor atteined to the knowledge of holy things.
4 Ai đã lên trời, rồi xuống đất? Ai đã góp gió trong tay, bọc biển trong áo, tạo nên vũ trụ? Đấng ấy là Ai? Và Con Trai Ngài tên gì? Xin nói giúp tôi, nếu ngươi biết!
Who hath ascended vp to heauen, and descended? Who hath gathered the winde in his fist? Who hath bound the waters in a garment? Who hath established all the endes of the world? What is his name, and what is his sonnes name, if thou canst tell?
5 Mọi lời của Đức Chúa Trời đều tinh luyện; Ngài là tấm khiên bảo vệ người nương cậy Ngài.
Euery worde of God is pure: he is a shield to those, that trust in him.
6 Đừng thêm gì vào lời của Ngài, kẻo Ngài bắt tội, vì người thêm thắt là người nói dối.
Put nothing vnto his wordes, least he reproue thee, and thou be found a lyar.
7 Đức Chúa Trời ôi, trước khi con chết, xin cho con hai điều:
Two things haue I required of thee: denie me them not before I die.
8 Giúp con khỏi dối trá, giả hình. Đừng để con nghèo khổ, cũng đừng cho con giàu có. Xin cho con lương thực vừa đủ cần dùng.
Remooue farre from me vanitie and lyes: giue me not pouertie, nor riches: feede me with foode conuenient for me,
9 Nếu giàu có dư dật, con sẽ khước từ Chúa và hỏi: “Chúa Hằng Hữu là ai?” Nếu nghèo khổ, con sẽ trộm cắp, làm ô nhơ Danh Đức Chúa Trời.
Least I be full, and denie thee, and say, Who is the Lord? or least I be poore and steale, and take the Name of my God in vaine.
10 Chớ vu khống người đầy tớ với chủ, người sẽ nguyền rủa con vì lỗi con tạo lấy.
Accuse not a seruant vnto his master, lest he curse thee, when thou hast offended.
11 Có người rủa cha, và không chúc phước cho mẹ.
There is a generation that curseth their father, and doeth not blesse their mother.
12 Có người tự thấy mình trong trắng, nhưng chưa được rửa sạch ô uế.
There is a generation that are pure in their owne conceite, and yet are not washed from their filthinesse.
13 Có người đôi mắt kiêu căng, với cái nhìn khinh người.
There is a generation, whose eies are hautie, and their eye liddes are lifted vp.
14 Có người răng sắc như gươm, hàm răng như dao cạo. Họ nhai ngấu nghiến người nghèo, ăn nuốt người thiếu thốn.
There is a generation, whose teeth are as swordes, and their chawes as kniues to eate vp the afflicted out of the earth, and the poore from among men.
15 Con đỉa có hai miệng hút, chúng kêu gào “Hãy cho, Hãy cho!” Có ba vật chẳng hề thỏa mãn, và bốn loài không biết nói “Đủ rồi!”
The horse leache hath two daughters which crye, Giue, giue. There be three things that will not be satisfied: yea, foure that say not, It is ynough.
The graue, and the barren wombe, the earth that cannot be satisfied with water, and the fire that sayeth not, It is ynough. (Sheol h7585)
17 Mắt của người chế nhạo cha, khinh bỉ mẹ, sẽ bị quạ móc đi và phụng hoàng nuốt sống.
The eye that mocketh his father and despiseth the instruction of his mother, let ye rauens of the valley picke it out, and the yong eagles eate it.
18 Có ba điều quá lạ lùng— không, bốn việc dị kỳ tôi không hiểu thấu:
There be three thinges hid from me: yea, foure that I knowe not,
19 Đường đại bàng bay trên không, lối rắn bò trên đá, đường tàu chạy trên biển, và đường tình ái giữa nam nữ.
The way of an eagle in the aire, the way of a serpent vpon a stone, ye way of a ship in ye middes of the sea, and the way of a man with a maide.
20 Còn thêm một điều nữa: Người đàn bà ngoại tình, phạm tội xong, chùi miệng nói: “Tôi có làm gì đâu.”
Such is ye way also of an adulterous woman: she eateth and wipeth her mouth, and sayth, I haue not committed iniquitie.
21 Có ba điều làm đất rung chuyển— không, bốn việc khiến đất không chịu nổi:
For three things the earth is moued: yea, for foure it cannot susteine it selfe:
22 Người nô lệ làm vua, người ngu xuẩn no đầy, thịnh vượng,
For a seruant when he reigneth, and a foole when he is filled with meate,
23 người đàn bà ghen ghét lấy được chồng, đứa tớ gái lên làm bà chủ.
For the hatefull woman, when she is married, and for a handmaid that is heire to her mistres.
24 Có bốn loài vật tuy nhỏ bé nhưng lại khôn ngoan lạ đời:
These be foure small things in the earth, yet they are wise and full of wisedome:
25 Con kiến là loài yếu ớt, dự trữ thực phẩm suốt mùa hạ.
The pismires a people not strong, yet prepare they their meate in sommer:
26 Con chồn ít năng lực, nhưng lại biết ẩn mình trong hốc đá.
The conies a people not mightie, yet make their houses in the rocke:
27 Con châu chấu tuy không có vua, nhưng chúng bay thành đội ngũ.
The grashopper hath no King, yet goe they forth all by bandes:
28 Con thằn lằn mà người ta lấy tay bắt được, lại ở trong cung vua.
The spider taketh holde with her handes, and is in Kings palaces.
29 Có ba dã thú dáng đi hùng dũng đẹp đẽ— không, bốn loài có nước bước oai phong lẫm liệt:
There be three thinges that order well their going: yea, foure are comely in going,
30 Con sư tử, chúa sơn lâm, chẳng lùi bước trước loài nào cả,
A lyon which is strong among beastes, and turneth not at the sight of any:
31 con công, con dê đực, và vị vua khi đi duyệt binh.
A lusty grayhound, and a goate, and a King against whom there is no rising vp.
32 Nếu con vì ngu dại mà tự kiêu hoặc mưu đồ việc ác, phải biết xấu hổ, lấy tay che miệng lại.
If thou hast bene foolish in lifting thy selfe vp, and if thou hast thought wickedly, lay thine hand vpon thy mouth.
33 Đánh sữa ra bơ và đấm mũi gây chảy máu, cũng vậy, chọc giận sinh cãi nhau.
When one churneth milke, he bringeth foorth butter: and he that wringeth his nose, causeth blood to come out: so he that forceth wrath, bringeth foorth strife.
