Châm Ngôn 3
1 Con ơi, đừng quên lời ta dạy. Nhưng giữ những mệnh lệnh ta trong lòng con.
My son, forget not my teaching, and let thy heart keep my commandments;
2 Nếu con làm vậy, con sẽ được gia tăng tuổi thọ, và cho đời sống con thịnh vượng.
For length of days, and years of life, and peace, will they increase unto thee.
3 Đừng để nhân từ, chân thật xa lìa con! Hãy đeo vào cổ để nhắc nhớ. Hãy ghi sâu vào lòng mình.
Let kindness and truth not forsake thee; bind them about thy throat; write them upon the table of thy heart:
4 Như thế, trước mặt Đức Chúa Trời và loài người, con được ân huệ và sự hiểu biết chính đáng.
So shalt thou find grace and good favor in the eyes of God and man.
5 Hãy hết lòng tin cậy Chúa Hằng Hữu; đừng nương vào sự hiểu biết của riêng con.
Trust in the Lord with all thy heart: and upon thy own understanding do not rely.
6 Trong các việc làm của con, hãy cầu xin Ngài, và Ngài sẽ hướng dẫn con trong các nẻo con đi.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he will make level thy paths.
7 Đừng khôn ngoan theo mắt mình. Hãy kính sợ Chúa Hằng Hữu, xa lánh điều ác.
Be not wise in thy own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.
8 Như thế, thân xác con sẽ mạnh khỏe và xương con được cứng cáp.
It will be healing to thy body, and marrow to thy bones.
9 Hãy dùng tài sản và hoa lợi đầu mùa mà tôn vinh Chúa Hằng Hữu.
Honor the Lord with thy wealth, and with the first-fruits of all thy products:
10 Như thế, kho thóc con đầy dẫy, thùng chứa rượu mới tràn đầy.
So shall thy storehouses be filled with plenty, and with new wine shall thy presses overflow.
11 Con ơi, đừng coi thường sự sửa phạt của Chúa Hằng Hữu, đừng bực mình khi Ngài trừng trị.
The correction of the Lord, my son, do not despise; and feel no loathing for his admonition;
12 Vì Chúa Hằng Hữu sửa dạy người Ngài yêu, như cha đối với con yêu dấu.
Because whomever the Lord loveth he admonisheth; and as a father who delighteth in [his] son.
13 Phước cho người tìm được khôn ngoan, vì nhận được sự thông sáng.
Happy the man that hath found wisdom, and the man that acquireth understanding.
14 Vì được nó có ích hơn được bạc, và sinh lợi hơn vàng.
For the obtaining of her is better than the obtaining of silver, and better than fine gold is her product.
15 Khôn ngoan quý hơn hồng ngọc; không có gì con ao ước sánh kịp.
She is more precious than pearls; and all the things thou valuest are not equal unto her.
16 Tay phải của khôn ngoan có trường thọ, còn tay trái có giàu sang và vinh dự.
Length of days is in her right hand: in her left are riches and honor.
17 Các đường của khôn ngoan đều thích thú; mọi nẻo của nó đều an vui.
Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.
18 Nó là cây vĩnh sinh cho người nắm lấy; và hạnh phúc cho ai giữ chặt.
A tree of life is she to those that lay hold on her: and every one that firmly graspeth her will be made happy.
19 Chúa Hằng Hữu do khôn ngoan sáng tạo đất; và do thông sáng thiết lập trời.
The Lord hath through wisdom founded the earth: he hath established the heavens through understanding.
20 Do tri thức Ngài, biển sâu mở toang, và mây đọng thành sương.
By his knowledge were the depths split open, and the skies drop down the dew.
21 Con ơi, hãy giữ khôn ngoan thật và thận trọng. Đừng để nó xa tầm mắt con.
My son, let them not be removed from thy eyes; keep [before thee] sound wisdom and discretion:
22 Nó là sức sống trong tâm hồn, là trang sức duyên dáng nơi cổ con.
And they will be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy throat.
23 Nhờ đó, con tiến bước an toàn, chân con không vấp ngã.
Then wilt thou walk in safety on thy way, and thy foot will not strike [against aught]:
24 Khi nằm, con không phải lo lắng, vừa ngã lưng, con đã ngon giấc.
When thou layest thyself down, thou shalt feel no dread; and as thou liest down, thy sleep shall be pleasant.
25 Khi thấy người ác gặp tai họa hay hủy diệt bất ngờ, con không hoang mang lo sợ,
Thou needest not to be afraid of sudden dread, neither of the [unlooked-for] tempest over the wicked, when it cometh.
26 vì Chúa Hằng Hữu là Đấng con tin cậy. Ngài sẽ giữ chân con khỏi cạm bẫy.
For the Lord will be thy confidence, and he will guard thy foot from being caught.
27 Đừng từ chối làm lành cho người xứng đáng khi con có năng lực làm việc ấy.
Withhold not a benefit from him who is deserving it, when it is in the power of thy hand to do it.
28 Nếu hiện tại con có thể giúp người láng giềng, thì đừng nói: “Ngày mai hãy trở lại, tôi sẽ giúp anh.”
Say not unto thy neighbor, Go, and return, and tomorrow will I give: when thou hast it by thee.
29 Đừng mưu đồ ám hại láng giềng, vì họ vẫn có lòng tin cậy nơi con.
Contrive not against thy neighbor any evil, when he dwelleth in safety with thee.
30 Đừng vô cớ cáo tội ai, khi người ấy không gây cho con thiệt hại.
Quarrel not with any man without cause, if he have done thee no harm.
31 Đừng thèm muốn địa vị người dữ dằn, cũng đừng bước theo con đường họ đi.
Envy not the man of violence, and choose none of his ways.
32 Vì Chúa Hằng Hữu ghét người hư hoại, nhưng thổ lộ tâm tình với ai ngay lành.
For the froward is an abomination to the Lord; but with the upright is his good-will.
33 Chúa Hằng Hữu nguyền rủa nhà của người ác, nhưng đổ phước lành trên nhà người công chính.
The curse of the Lord is in the house of the wicked; but the habitation of the righteous will he bless.
34 Chúa Hằng Hữu cười chê người kiêu căng báng bổ, nhưng ban ơn phước trên người khiêm nhu.
If [it concern] the scornful he will himself render them a scorn; but unto the lowly doth he give grace.
35 Vinh dự là gia tài Chúa dành cho người khôn, còn xấu hổ nhuốc nhơ là phần của người dại dột.
The wise shall inherit glory; but fools shall obtain disgrace as their portion.
