Châm Ngôn 24
1 Chớ ganh tị người ác, cũng đừng mong kết bạn với họ.
Don't be jealous of evil people; don't long to spend time with them,
2 Vì lòng chúng đầy âm mưu bạo tàn, môi nói ra toàn lời nguy hại.
for they think up cruel plans and discuss how to cause trouble.
3 Nhà cửa xây trên nền khôn ngoan và được vững vàng do hiểu biết.
A house is built by wisdom; its foundation is made secure through understanding.
4 Do tri thức các phòng được đầy vật quý hiếm.
Its rooms are filled by knowledge with all kinds of valuable and beautiful objects.
5 Người khôn ngoan là người có sức lớn, người tri thức lại càng thêm năng lực.
If you have wisdom, you are strong; if you have knowledge, your power increases,
6 Đánh giặc phải nhờ mưu khôn ngoan; muốn chiến thắng, cần nhiều mưu sĩ.
for with wise guidance you can go to war; you will be victorious by having many good advisors.
7 Với người dại, khôn ngoan là điều cao xa quá. Nơi cổng thành, nó chẳng dám hé miệng ra.
Wisdom goes over the heads of stupid people; they have nothing to contribute when important matters are discussed.
8 Ai mưu tính điều ác, sẽ nổi danh là người gian xảo.
Anyone who plans to do evil will be seen as a troublemaker.
9 Âm mưu của người dại là tội lỗi; người nhạo báng bị người ta ghê tởm.
Plans thought up by stupid people are sinful. Everyone hates those who are scornful of others.
10 Chỉ người yếu hèn mới sờn lòng trong ngày hoạn nạn.
If you give up in times of trouble, it shows how weak you are.
11 Hãy cứu người bị đưa đến cõi chết; hãy ngăn bước người lảo đảo đi đến chỗ tử vong.
Rescue those who are being led away to be executed; save those who are stumbling on their way to be slaughtered.
12 Đừng tự nói: “Chúng tôi chẳng biết chuyện gì cả.” Vì Đức Chúa Trời hiểu rõ lòng người, và Ngài nhìn thấy. Đấng canh giữ mạng sống con biết rõ con đã biết. Ngài sẽ báo trả mỗi người tùy việc họ đã làm.
If you say, “Look, we didn't know anything about this,” don't you think the God who judges your motives will see what's happening? He who watches over you knows, and he will pay people back for what they've done.
13 Con ơi, hãy ăn mật ong vì nó tốt, mật của tàn ong ngon ngọt cho miệng con.
My son, eating honey is good for you; the honeycomb tastes sweet.
14 Cũng hãy biết rằng khôn ngoan ngọt ngào cho linh hồn con. Nếu con tìm được khôn ngoan, con sẽ tràn đầy hy vọng, và hy vọng của con sẽ không bị cắt đứt.
In the same way, you should know that wisdom is good for you; if you find it, there will be a future for you, and your hope will not be crushed.
15 Đừng rình rập nhà người công chính, cũng đừng cướp phá nơi ở của người,
Don't be like a criminal waiting to ambush the home of good people; don't attack the place where they live.
16 Vì người công chính vẫn đứng dậy, dù bị ngã bảy lần. Nhưng chỉ một tai vạ, người ác đã bại liệt ngay.
Those who do right may fall down seven times, and still get up again; but the wicked are brought down by disaster.
17 Khi kẻ địch sa cơ, con chớ mừng; khi nó ngã, lòng con đừng hớn hở.
Don't celebrate when your enemies fall; don't be glad when they trip up,
18 Kẻo e Chúa Hằng Hữu không bằng lòng và ngưng ra tay trừng phạt nó chăng.
otherwise when the Lord sees it, he'll be unhappy with you and won't punish your enemies as he planned.
19 Chớ nóng lòng vì công việc người ác, đừng ganh tị khi người dữ thành đạt.
Don't get all upset over the wicked, or be jealous of those who do wrong,
20 Đời người ác không có tương lai; đèn người dữ nay mai sẽ tắt.
for evil people have no future—the lamp of the wicked will be snuffed out.
21 Con ơi, phải kính sợ Chúa và tôn trọng vua. Đừng liên kết với bọn người phản loạn,
My son, honor the Lord and the king, and don't join those who are rebellious,
22 vì họa tai sẽ đến bất ngờ. Ai lường được hình phạt của Chúa Hằng Hữu và vua?
for disaster will suddenly fall on them. Who knows how the Lord and king will punish them?
23 Đây là lời của người khôn ngoan: Khi xét xử, đừng thiên vị ai cả.
These are more sayings of the wise: Showing favoritism when passing judgment is wrong.
24 Ai tuyên bố với người ác rằng “Anh vô tội,” sẽ bị mọi người nguyền rủa không thôi.
Those who tell the guilty, “You're innocent,” will be cursed by the people and hated by the nation,
25 Ai trách phạt người ác, sẽ được mọi người ưa thích; và tràn đầy phước hạnh.
while those who convict the guilty will be appreciated, and will receive a rich blessing.
26 Lời nói thẳng xuất phát từ tình thương.
An honest answer is a kiss on the lips.
27 Lo làm ăn trong ngoài chu tất, rồi hãy tính đến việc cất nhà.
Do the work you need to do outside first, then prepare and sow your fields, and only after that start building your house.
28 Đừng vô cớ làm chứng hại láng giềng; môi miệng con đừng thốt ra lời dối trá.
Don't testify against your neighbors without having a good reason, and don't tell lies.
29 Chớ nói: “Tôi báo trả lại điều nó làm cho tôi! Tôi chỉ tốt với người tốt với tôi thôi!”
Don't say to yourself, “I'm going to do to him what he did to me! I'll pay him back for what he's done!”
30 Ta có qua ruộng một người kém siêng năng, và vườn nho của người ngu dại.
I walked past the field of a lazy man, past a vineyard of someone with no sense.
31 Cỏ mọc um tùm, gai phủ giăng. Rào dậu điêu tàn nghiêng ngửa đổ.
It was all overgrown with thorns, the ground was covered with weeds, and the stone wall had fallen down.
32 Quan sát cảnh ấy, ta để ý, suy xét, và học được rằng:
As I looked I thought about it, and what I saw taught me a lesson:
33 Ngủ một chút, mơ màng thêm một chút, khoanh tay nghỉ một chút nữa thôi—
You may say, “Please, just a little more sleep, a little longer snooze, a little more folding of the arms to rest”—
34 cảnh nghèo đến như kẻ trộm; bạo tàn, đột ngột như phường cướp tấn công.
and poverty will attack you like a robber, destitution like an armed warrior.
