Châm Ngôn 13
1 Con khôn ngoan để ý nghe cha khuyên dạy, đứa nhạo cười bỏ lời khiển trách ngoài tai.
A wise sonne will obey the instruction of his father: but a scorner will heare no rebuke.
2 Người lành thắng kiện nhờ nói năng dè dặt, người ác chỉ ước ao toàn chuyện bạo tàn.
A man shall eate good things by the fruite of his mouth: but the soule of the trespassers shall suffer violence.
3 Người tự chủ biết hãm cầm miệng lưỡi; người hở môi gặt lấy thất bại hoài.
Hee that keepeth his mouth, keepeth his life: but he that openeth his lips, destruction shall be to him.
4 Người làm biếng mong muốn mà chẳng được, người siêng năng ước gì có nấy.
The sluggard lusteth, but his soule hath nought: but the soule of the diligent shall haue plentie.
5 Người công chính ghét những gì không ngay thật, người ác ôn dối trá rồi gặt nhuốc nhơ.
A righteous man hateth lying wordes: but the wicked causeth slander and shame.
6 Đức công chính bảo vệ người ngay thẳng, tội lỗi luôn tiêu diệt bọn tà tâm.
Righteousnesse preserueth the vpright of life: but wickednes ouerthroweth the sinner.
7 Có người tỏ vẻ giàu mà chẳng có chi; có người làm bộ nghèo mà giàu nứt vách.
There is that maketh himselfe riche, and hath nothing, and that maketh himselfe poore, hauing great riches.
8 Người giàu mới có tiền chuộc mạng, còn người nghèo đâu sợ ai bắt cóc.
A man will giue his riches for the ransome of his life: but the poore cannot heare ye reproch.
9 Đèn người lành sáng choang, đèn người ác tắt ngấm.
The light of the righteous reioyceth: but the candle of the wicked shall be put out.
10 Tính kiêu căng chỉ sinh ra tranh chấp; nhưng ai khiêm tốn phục thiện mới là khôn ngoan.
Onely by pride doeth man make contention: but with the well aduised is wisdome.
11 Của phi nghĩa sớm tan biến; tiền mồ hôi nước mắt mới còn bền lâu.
The riches of vanitie shall diminish: but he that gathereth with the hand, shall increase them.
12 Hy vọng trì hoãn khiến lòng đau ê ẩm, mộng được thành làm phấn chấn tâm can.
The hope that is deferred, is the fainting of the heart: but when the desire commeth, it is as a tree of life.
13 Người coi thường khuyên dạy, lãnh hậu họa chẳng sai; người tôn trọng mệnh lệnh nhận phần thưởng chắc chắn.
He that despiseth the worde, hee shall be destroyed: but hee that feareth the commandement he shalbe rewarded.
14 Lời dạy của người khôn như nguồn sự sống; hướng dẫn người nghe thoát cạm bẫy tử thần.
The instruction of a wise man is as the welspring of life, to turne away from the snares of death.
15 Lương tri đem lại lòng mến phục; nhưng đường xảo trá dẫy đầy gian nan.
Good vnderstanding maketh acceptable: but the way of the disobedient is hated.
16 Người khôn suy tính kỹ càng; người dại hấp tấp tỏ mình ngây ngô.
Euery wise man will worke by knowledge: but a foole will spread abroade folly.
17 Sứ giả gian ác ngã vào tội ác, khâm sai trung tín đem lại chữa lành.
A wicked messenger falleth into euill: but a faithfull ambassadour is preseruation.
18 Khước từ kỷ luật gây ra bần cùng nhục nhã; ai đón nhận khiển trách sẽ thấy ngày quang vinh.
Pouertie and shame is to him that refuseth instruction: but hee that regardeth correction, shalbe honoured.
19 Ước muốn thành công làm linh hồn khoan khoái, vì vậy, người ác bám chặt lấy ước muốn lầm sai.
A desire accomplished deliteth ye soule: but it is an abomination to fooles to depart from euil.
20 Gần đèn thì sáng, gần người khôn trở nên khôn; gần mực thì đen, gần người dại phải mang họa.
He that walketh with the wise, shalbe wise: but a companion of fooles shalbe afflicted.
21 Tai họa đuổi theo người gian ác, phước hạnh bám sát người thiện lành.
Affliction followeth sinners: but vnto the righteous God will recompense good.
22 Của cải người lành để lại cho con cháu hưởng, gia tài người ác dành cho người công chính dùng.
The good man shall giue inheritance vnto his childrens children: and the riches of the sinner is layde vp for the iust.
23 Ruộng người nghèo có thể sản xuất nhiều hoa lợi, nhưng ăn ở bất lương sẽ thành công dã tràng.
Much foode is in the fielde of the poore: but the fielde is destroyed without discretion.
24 Ai kiêng roi vọt ghét con trai mình, người biết thương con không quên sửa trị nó.
He that spareth his rodde, hateth his sonne: but he that loueth him, chasteneth him betime.
25 Người công chính ăn thì được ấm lòng, người gian tà ăn mà vẫn đói meo.
The righteous eateth to the contentation of his minde: but the belly of the wicked shall want.
